Bridge CC / Continous preview regeneration?

Hi!
I recognized several times, that Bridge is regenerate the preview images very often.
If I mark several images, the previews are regenerated. That is not so funny, as Bridge uses only one of my eight virtual CPUs (Intel Core i7 2600@3,4 GHz with four cores plus Hyperthreading) and it takes a while to build the previews of 300 or 400 images.
My RAW-Cache is limited to 100 GB. The Bridge Cache is limited to 500.000 images. That should be more than enough for my round about 1.200 pictures.
My Bridge provided by Photoshop CS 4 had no such issues.
Is there anything known, or has Adobe imrpoved their software really so much, that it fails more and more? Sorry, but I had really big performance issues with Lightroom 5. And now it looks like, also Bridge has decreased the performance.
Any idea, what I can do?
Thanks!

This is not normal behavior, previews should only regenerate when altering settings in ACR or save after having changed them in PS.
There is a long thread about regenerating previews due to using the crop tool in ACR but that should be solved in ACR 8.2 or at least much improved and only affects files that have been cropped in ACR itself.
I don't know the architecture of the software but it seems to use as much as possible automatically and can be very processor demanding. But having 8 cores and 32 GB RAM in my Mac I seldom see more then about 40 % (often less) usage for Bridge.
For me using SSD and enough Resources Bridge seems still not fast enough but then again, I (like many others) only seem to be satisfied with real time behavior and that is still not realistic… , but seriously, I do think Bridge CC is very fast on my set up and using label or rating should not affect previews at all.
Then again, I also use DNG files that write data in the file itself, if you have Raw with XMP side car then it should even be a lot faster (if possible because rating is almost real time already)
Even if you have set to save ACR data to a central database instead of using this data in the side car xmp files then 100 GB is still way to much. I have the default setting with 1 GB and this contains data for about 1700 files, overwriting the oldest with newest. But as said, I don't need it at all because this data is already in the DNG file itself. When using xmp side car thes files contain the data also so there is no need to assign such large space for the Raw cache to my opinion.
Having the slider for cache halfway is also more then suitable for most common use. Even with 250K files Bridge will be unusable due to large cache and slow behavior. It just is not a DAM like a dedicated DAM while a dedicated DAM is not capable for the pre process tasks Bridge is very strong at
I would start checking ACR version (if you use crop tool very important to check) and restart Bridge holding down control key to both purge central cache and preferences.
Also check a problem folder on hidden cache files. If there are such cache and Cache.T files from previous versions they can cause problems and new ones can also get you in trouble, just not a good feature to use at all in my opinion.

  • Adobe Bridge Freezes While Previewing Animation Presets

    Hello
I know this question has been asked several times over, but I do not have a resolution so I thought would ask again.  Like the previous posts, when I browse presets from the Effects and Animations menu, Adobe Bridge opens.  I can scroll through the animations, but once I choose one, the play button scrubs and appears to play, but never does, and then the program freezes.  I have read the blog posts and installed the fixes posted on the adobe blog, but nothing helps. All of my Apple Software and Creative Cloud software says it is up to date.
    Here are my settings:
    Adobe After Effects 12.2.1.5
    Adobe Bridge 6.0.1.6
    Apple Quicktime 10.1
    20-inch, Early 2008 iMac OS X
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)
Any guidance you can offer is much appreciated!
    Thank you,

Thanks for the quick reply Rick.  Yes, 4Gb is not a lot, but when I bought the machine I was not doing any video and it sure seemed like plenty in 2008.  I probably should upgrade...
I did close down everything else, but the problem still exists.  I can navigate to a thumbnail, but once I click on it and try to preview, the program freezes and I have to force quit.

  • Adobe bridge / sony .arw preview / thumbnails

Adobe Bridge CS6, doesn't render thumbnails or previews for Sony A7R files [ Canon .CR2 work fine ]. Card formatted in camera, colour setting sRGB. Any tips ?

  • Bridge freezes while previewing animation

    I'm using a Mac, 16GB RAM, 200+GB free space. Bridge CC 2014
When I want to preview an animation in Bridge it freezes. I can select any folder, but selecting an animation will freeze Bridge. I can't actually quit Bridge, I have to Force Quit it and, interestingly, Finder doesn't show Bridge as "not responding".
In my Activity Monitor it shows CompressorJobController, CompressorTranscoder and dynamiclinkmediaserver as "Not Responding".
I've uninstalled Bridge, (with Adobe Cleaner), deleted the cache, reinstalled, did Disk repair permissions - still not working.

Thanks for the quick reply Rick.  Yes, 4Gb is not a lot, but when I bought the machine I was not doing any video and it sure seemed like plenty in 2008.  I probably should upgrade...

  • Bridge CS4 image Previews are too small

In Bridge CS4 I cannot get the preview images to display anything larger than a large thumbnail view, see image below.  I have tried all of the Preferences in Edit menu (e.g. Thumbnail: do not process files larger than set to 10,000 MB, cache options are keep 100% previews in cache checked/automatically export cache to folders when possible checked/cache size slider is set to 50%, software render has been checked/unchecked/generate monitor size previews checked).  None of these options change anything for the size of the image preview.  I have a DX10.1 ATI Radeon HD4890 XOC 1GB, so my video card is not the issue.  I am running Windows 7 Ult x64 on ASUS P8P67 Deluxe with 16GB RAM and over 2 TB of HDD space. So my system should not be an issue either.  These are Sample artwork images that were installed with Illustrator cs4.  How do i increase the size of these images?
Also, these images are showing everything in the ai image, not the individual images in each ai file.  How do i get it to show the individual images in each AI file like they were separate images, like Illustrator?

Actually, you just solved both of my problems with your question.  I never thought about how the images were created/saved.
It turns out that for some reason when i re-save the images as version CS4 of course and all options selected in dialog box now the images act correctly and resize accordingly when the separator is moved and will get quite large as they should.
I also had to use my mouse and select each artboard/image inside the file then re-saved with same settings as above to get multiple images to show up with the buttons at bottom of image in preview mode.  Now all is good.
These are the default installed sample artwork images.  Not sure why they were like this, may have been some kind of format/process error. Thanks a lot Curt Y.

  • Adobe Bridge Not Showing Preview

I have opened PS and launched Bridge but it doesn't show like it normally does.  I see Bridge icon in the tray
across the bottom of my screen and have tried clicking, dbl clicking, control clicking and nothing happens.
I've rebooted, undocked my laptop and rebooted, and still I can't see my CR files from my memory card
in the normal preview window.  Is there a setting I need to change or is there something wrong?  Help!
    Thanks, Lisa

I'm not clear on what you're seeing. Can you see Bridge on your screen? If yes, then you may need to reset your workspace:
Window > Workspace > Reset Workspace.
If your workspace is fine, maybe the issue is with file association. It's diffiicult to to say. Could you post a screenshot, please? [Use PrtScn, open Photoshop, Ctrl-N, then Ctrl-V]
If the Bridge window is missing, you can try to maximise it by clicking the taskbar button for Bridge to bring it to the foreground, then press Alt - Space - X. Another method is to move an off-screen window using Alt - Space - M followed by the arrow keys, and Enter to save the new position.

  • And again, Bridge not showing previews, CS4, very aggravating

I've tried all the stuff on Adobe's page about this, but like many others it's not solved my problem.  Did the LRoom 2.7 update and the ACR 5.7 update and since then Bridge CS4 only shows crappy icons instead of previews for RAW files.  I've tried everything, to no avail.
I'm hoping someone has found a solution for this, it's really a pain and I'm at wit's end.
    Thanks.

Thanks, and I've tried all those moves, and still the same thing.  Along with
Lightroom 2.7 I'm running Photoshop CS3 so I have two ACRs in the Plugins
folder since CS3 doesn't recognize the new ACR (5.7).  When ACR 5.6 was in
    there, all was fine.
There is your problem, you've messed up with the plug ins
Forgot about CS3 but I believe that ACR 4.x was the latest for that, CS4
needs 5.x (5.7 is the latest update) and they are not interchangeable.
You can only have one plugin per CS but you can have CS3, CS4 (and soon CS5)
as each one folder in the path for root library/AppSupport?Adobe/Plug Ins
containing the dedicated version of ACR plug in.
If you don't have CS4 but need Raw support for your files you should use the
free Adobe DNG Converter. After converting the originals to DNG you are able
to open them in the CS3 ACR window.
However keep in mind that ACR CS4 had a lot of benefit regarding highlight
recovery and fill light etc as CS5 will even have better results
Everything was working fine until the updates were done yesterday.  Even
stranger, when I first launched Bridge after the updating was done, I saw the
preview files for a second or two, then the icons replaced them as if by
magic.  Does Adobe have David Copperfield working for them now?
That is normal behavior and far from magic I'm afraid...
Every time you change settings in ACR or make a new default setting or start
using another ACR plug in the files need to rebuild the cache for thumbs and
preview. You only saw a glimpse of the old ones, the new ones should start
to rebuild but there is no plug in for reference anymore

  • Bridge CS6 bad preview after adjustment in Adobe Camera Raw 7.0

    Hi,
when i update camera raw from 6.5 to 6.6 the preview can`t give me right preview only after 1 or more adjustments in adobe camera raw (yes, "Always High Quality"and "Generate Preview-Size Previews").
Image apears and stays like when we open it in camera raw in the first few seconds with the yellow exclamation mark.
Months ago the only solution i found after several reinstals of phoshop, was to turn back to camera raw 6.5.
Now im trying beta bridge cs6 and problem come back for me again.
    I use Nikon D3x with 14 bits ~49MB .nef files with Windows 7 64 bits .
Is any one have same problem? And why only in 6.6 (and new camera raw 7.0) and not in 6.5?
    Thanks

When I saved a image to my desktop and wanted to open in Preview so I could do some altra fast tweeks like add sepia and then resaved it came up that I didn't have aothourization to save changes.  I then as suggested went to finder - get info - and unlocked the file and entered the desktop password when prompted and closed but it still won't save the changes. I don't want to change it to open as a PS file because it is a JPEG and takes allot of effort when preview cnages under tools color is so efficient.  Other suggestions to try?

  • Bridge CS 6 preview problem with video files

    Hey Community,
I have a problem with the preview in Adobe Bridge Cs 6.
With the pictures and photos everything is fine, but every kind of video format is not displayed as a preview in the preview window, so that I have to open each video manually by doubleclicking on it, so that it is opens in Quicktime.
Is there an opportunity to get that fixed? I just see the Quicktime or VLC-Icon, nothing more.
I tried to purge to cache, to set everything to defaults but nothing worked.
Thank you in advance und best regards.
    Alex

Doubleclicking on the files in Bridge causes that quicktime or VLC or itunes (depending on the file format) will open that, but bridge does not handle anything?!
Bridge CC and Bridge CS6 both handle my .mov files from EOS 1Dx and iPhone without any problems. The show in the preview window and can be played with sound in this same window. (MacPro with 10.8.4)
Purging cache is what it is, it dumps the previous cache of the preview and forces Bridge to create a new one, nothing else is set to default.
First try a reset of preferences and hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs. then try again.

  • Bridge CS6 Audio preview slow

I'm using Adobe Bridge CS6 x64 and the audio previews have a delay before they begin to play, while the video previews don't. Is there a way I can speed things up and have the audio play almost the second I click? I'm running a decent PC here, 16GB ram, and it occurs on both a 7200rpm 1tb drive and on an ssd. Bridge x64 is using 70mb of ram while it runs. The cache has been purged from preferences.
I've seen this guy VIDEO COPILOT | After Effects Tutorials, Plug-ins and Stock Footage for Post Production Professionals (Click "Watch Demo," at about 2:38  it shows him using bridge) use bridge and get near instant audio playback upon selecting a file, so why am I getting a short delay before playback?

When I saved a image to my desktop and wanted to open in Preview so I could do some altra fast tweeks like add sepia and then resaved it came up that I didn't have aothourization to save changes.  I then as suggested went to finder - get info - and unlocked the file and entered the desktop password when prompted and closed but it still won't save the changes. • Bridge CS6 CR2 preview display problem

Whilst I can see CR2 (Canon 5D mk 3) files in the main display field, hitting the space bar only shows a 'CR2' icon. what's best action.

    What's the fix for this?
It might be cache related, can you select a CR2 thumb that shows good in the preview panel and then with right mouse click choose 'purge cache for selected files' and see if this solves the problem.
If not restart Bridge holding down option key (mac) or control key (Win) and from the menu choose reset preferences.

  • Soft images in Bridge full screen preview

This has seemed to plague Bridge for a couple of years now… thought that the CS6 update would fix it. This is reproducible on a variety of Macs with and without external displays, all running the latest OS and Adobe updates.
With 100% previews selected in the preferences and a recently purged cache, browse to a directory of images.
Preview the first image by selecting it and pressing the space bar:
Arrow to the right to preview the second image in the folder. Then arrow left to review the original image:
Notice how blurry it becomes. And subsequent images are rendered blurry.
Hit the escape key to exit and space bar again to re-enter the full screen preview.
There is possibly some non integral sub-pixel calculations going on, making the image blurry. Clicking once on the image brings up a 100% label at the top and the image almost corrects itself.
This should be a priority one fix.
What is Bridge? Adobe® Bridge CS6 digital asset management software is a powerful photo and design organizer that provides centralized access to all your creative blurry assets.

Welcome to my world. If you search a bit, you should find a few discussions on related topics.
Your problem sounds like something I see intermittently. Occasionally, Bridge seems incapable of generating a decent full-screen preview. I generally work around this by purging the folder's cache and/or restarting Bridge.
CS6's Bridge has been reworked quite a lot. It's now 64-bit, and the internal database has been changed to a different system. However, I still see Bridge generating thumbnails and previews unnecessarily, which suggests to me that more work needs to be done.
One thing I learned recently is that Bridge uses the graphcs hardware to generate previews, so it may be worth trying the Use Software Rendering setting in Preferences (if there is one on CS6 for Mac), to see if it makes any difference. If it did, you may have an issue with your graphics cards and/or software and/or settings.

  • Bad quality preview in Bridge versus photoshop preview

Okay here's my problem.  When I view my photos using Bridge CS4 I get a bad quality preview even when preview is set to "Always High Quality" The first photo you will see that there is a greenish yellowish tinge on the side of my daughters cheek.  However, when I open the same image in photoshop that tinge is gone! You can see this in the second image.  Is there a setting that I need to alter here in Bridge? And here's a weird thing....since that file is a raw cr2 file, when I open it up in camera raw, I see the exact same greenish tinge in camera raw as well.  Does anybody know what's going on here?

Gosh darnit!  It's happening again.  I'm getting that murky yellowy tinge in the shadows again in the preview panel in Bridge AND Photoshop!! I downloaded the CS5 trial and when I was previewing some .CR2 RAW and jpeg files in sRGB color space in Bridge CS5, I see that in the preview box, the image looks awful with that yellowy tinge in the shadows.  I open it up in Photoshop CS5 and zoom way into it, and sure enough, I see that yellowy nightmare.  But when I open it up in picture viewer or in internet explorer, the yellowy tinge is gone.  Man this is frustrating!  I know it can't be a monitor calibration issue cuz if that was the case, the image in picture viewer would indeed, also have the yellowy tinge, correct?  Any ideas?  When the problem mysteriously went away with CS4 when I originally posted this thread several months ago, I thought updating Bridge was the solution.  However, I don't believe that was the real answer.  Anybody got any ideas?  I was curious if it was an "Adobe" issue so I opened up one of the jpeg problem photos in AE CS5 and zoomed in.  Fortunately, the yellowy tinge does NOT show up in the preview panel.  PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Mavericks-Bridge = no video preview

Since upgrading to Mavericks I can't preview video files from the finder or Bridge, is there a workaround for this which doesn't involve converting all my video files? Thanks

While not using many video myself and almost no .avi (been always a problem for me on a Mac, Quicktime is not really supporting .avi natively as it seems) the problem lies with the new Quicktime that came with Mavericks.
Apple seems to abandon older (and especially MS) filetypes like .avi, DivX and .wmv. It also seems the new QT for Mavericks is indeed a very new application, rebuild to 64 bit.
So here is the problem, you can use third party like VLC and MPlayerX (App store on your Mac) to view older file types but Bridge seems to use QT for viewing the movie files.
Either Apple has to downgrade QT (which in al honesty is not very likely to happen once Cupertino has set its mind to go to something new…) or Adobe has to build in the option to use third party like VLC or MPlayerX or come up with a new solution (and again in all honesty, the slowness of updating or developing real new features for Bridge has also not proved to be promising for the last 3 versions I'm afraid).
You can downgrade your system again to Mountain Lion and wait for things to happen on both fronts or bite the bullet and dig in information about converting your files to new formats.
Eventually more kinds of older file types will be abandoned while newer technology goes ahead. It is indeed a bit sad but it is also reality.
But this is also an example for me to again wait with upgrade to new systems at the moment they appear. Better wait for .2 or .3 release and do some research before stepping in to the deep.

  • Bridge CS5 not previewing all PDF pages

    Hi there
After installing CS5 bridge only shows the first 2 pages of PDFs in the preview pane. Older PDFs seem to be ok, just not newly created ones. What am I doing wrong?
I note that there's a preference for this in InDesign for INDD/IDML previews - is there one for PDFs?
    Thanks!
    Luke

Thanks for your reply Fran, but I think you misunderstood the problem. My biggest annoyance with Bridge is that I need to open a PDF in Acrobat, Preview, or even Quick Look to view more than the first two pages, when I should be able to in Bridge.
I understand for cross-platform reasons you can't rely on OSX's native PDF viewing capability, but come on - Adobe developed the PDF format. Is this too much to ask?
I realise you can change your settings in InDesign so that it embeds previews for all pages, but this bloats your PDF file a LOT. Why cannot Bridge just render PDFs without these InDesign-embedded previews?
At the moment Bridge can't even tell me how many pages there are in a PDF before I open it - it always comes up with '2' if there are 2 or more. Hopeless.
I'd be happy to turn on previewing for all pages in InDesign just for INDD and IDML files as I don't care about the size of these files, but then you get the nasty huge PDF file sizes, even on Smallest File Size export setting. So I have to leave that turned off.
    Thanks anyway
    Luke
