Bridge corrupts jpg metadata when applying metadata template (no preview in Finder)

Hi,
Since a short while I found that applying one of my metadata templates (copyright etc.) to .jpgs in Adobe Bridge CC corrupts the metadata. What's seen is that the preview thumbnails in Finder disappear (change to jpg-logo), and there's no other way to get them back then by stripping all the metadata (I used ImageOptim).
The weird thing is, it only affects jpgs that are rendered straight from Capture One Pro 8. Pics in .jpg that are rendered by Photoshop CC don't go corrupt.

  • Bridge crashes when applying metadata

I'm seeking guidance, but let me preface this post with some information:
    CS6 via Creative Cloud
All applications up to date via Adobe Application Manager
All Windows Updates applied including drivers.
    Currently running Bridge 5.0.2.4
    Computer is:
    Win 7 Pro (64 bit)
    Core i5
    12 Gb RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce 310
I have used CS6 for months prior to this issue starting without incident.
I have tried moving the data to different drives.
    I have checked/cleared/reset file permissions.
I have run drive error checks.
I have uninstalled/CC cleaner/reisntalled all Adobe products multiple times.
I have run Bridge in 32-bit and 64-bit modes.
I have tried to reset preferences and other "Ctrl" startup options.
I have tried to reset preferences and other "Ctrl" startup options after selecing "Run As Administrator".
I manually deleted the ".BridgeCache" and ".BridgeCacheT" files from the folder of photos.
Prior to this crashing problem I had already sorted and begun to apply ratings to files (Reject and Start ratings) in this folder without incident.  I even applied metadata (Keywords) to a portion of the 1,321 photos in a folder without incident.  The problem started when I came back the next day and started up work again.  There had been no updates or restarts to the computer.  The only thing that I think updated was Adobe Acrobat, but I cannot be sure.  When I opened Bridge and began to apply Keywords to files the program simply locked up and immediately crashed.  The Windows dialog box did not have any information or options for a crash report.
This is a normal workfolw that I utilize on a regular (weekly/monthly) basis and why the crashing is happening is beyond me.  I have attempted to troubleshoot many different ways.  Of particular note I when to a different folder of photos that had never been worked on before with Bridge and was able to apply the same workflow without incident.
Here is an excerpt from the Windows Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: Bridge.exe, version: 5.0.2.4, time stamp: 0x50d9a019
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17725, time stamp: 0x4ec4aa8e
    Exception code: 0xc0000374
    Fault offset: 0x00000000000c40f2
    Faulting process id: 0x12d0
    Faulting application start time: 0x01ce461c31a0ba90
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS6 (64 Bit)\Bridge.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
    Report Id: 60e3cf2b-b210-11e2-834c-f04da2db0ae0
At this time I cannot difinitively confirm that the files themselves are causing the issue but I will attempt some additional troubleshooting.  At this point I'm not overly impatient because I've already lost the revenue opportunity for selling these photos to customers because the error first started several days ago (4/28/2013 09:31:35 PM was first crash).  However, at this point I am will not entertain the wasting of time by uninstalling all Adobe products, running CC cleaner, and re-installing the products I use.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try for resolution or troubleshooting?

I'm wondering if it could be the SD card?  Mine was a cheap brand and I wonder if the invalid handler could be the issue.
No experience with all of this, use a Mac, Canon and a CF card that I place in a Card reader and use import via Adobe Photodownloader.
But here is my question, what do you do you with the SD card when your files are copied to the system?
My workflow is to import the files (including convert to DNG and back up original Raw to second disk, renaming and copyright template)
But when I have checked my files are OK on the system and I need the CF card for a new job I always put the card back in the camera and use the camera menu itself to format the card.
I long ago stopped using the delete all function because this used to build up certain data files and that is not the case when you use format.
I do so every time and while I have used a lot of CF cards (from 128 MB in 2001 to current 32 GB Sandisk Extreme Pro UDMA 7) The only problems I had was losing them.
Never managed to break one down (not even in the washing machine…) and from about 2003 I always have used the format method for every time I needed to remove the files from the card.
I don't know much about the difference between inferior manufactures and the superior brands, I find it hard to believe that this would cause your problem alone (If you did not format I would try that first).
Having said that I would never choose to use other then top quality cards like Lexar and Sandisk and also the fastest or the nearly fastest.
If you have a cheap compact camera (but then you probably would not visit this forum…) I can image (but do not approve) you include a cheap SD card also. But spending up to 1000 dollar or much more for a nice dSLR and save money on a cheap card instead of using a trustful medium to write your precious files on is not the best workflow.
CF cards and SD card are very cheap nowadays.
To compare, the 128 MB in 2001 was about 600 dollar, the super fast and reliable Sandisk Extreme Pro 32 GB was around 200 dollars.
You can do the math yourself but on my calculator this means three times as cheap while 256 times more space…

  • File names in Assignments Panel change when applying metadata

I have just discovered that when you apply metadata through the "User Content Info" window, whatever title you place in the "Document Title" field changes the name that appears in the Assignments panel. The problem with this is that we have asked our users to apply metadata using this window and to put the Product Title in the Document Title field. I had no idea that this would affect the Assignments panel. Yikes!

    Brian
Yes that would be a pain if you had to do it. The good news is you don't. There a plenty of ways to get to the pics:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Also, for 10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.

  • High CPU and Delay when applying metadata

    Hi All:
I have an issue where my CPU hits 60% when applying keywords. This can be when I apply it to one image or to 100s. Obviously, when I have more pictures selected or more keywords, there is a much larger delay.
    Ideas from anyone?
    Thanks

    Hi All,
There is a workaround to resolve this issue. As it is related to modifying registry, please be very careful and take backup of your registry first.
The workaround is to set the value of "Disable Performance Counters" to 0 @ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfProc\Performance
If this registry entry is not present, create one. Meanwhile, we are working on fixing this issue.
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks,
    Deepika
PS: Edit the Registry at your own risk. Inappropriate changes to the Windows Registry can disable the operating system! To safeguard against such an accident, back up your existing registry by choosing Registry » Export Registry File after launching the Registry Editor and before making any changes

  • Expand columns to available width when applying a template

    Hello!
I would like my report body to have identical margins on the left and the right. To achieve this, the columns in the report body should be expanded to fit the entire available width. What happens now is that in most cases there is some space left between the right side of the rightmost column an the rigth margin.
Is there a wat to let the report builder expand the columns so that they always fit exactly in the space available when you apply a template?
    Regards,

    Hi,
I guess this happens because ADDT uses it´s own CSS, which might override your overflow:visible.
All of ADDT´s CSS is located in the "includes/skins" directory BTW

  • I applied a template to a page with SWFs and now that page does not play the SWFs. Why?

I applied a template to a page with SWFs and now that page does not play the SWFs (just a blank area where the SWF should be). When I detach the template it will play the flash file. This site will eventually be updated via Adobe Contribute. And I just discovered that when applying a template to a page that uses HTML datasets (Master/Detail),it no longer reads the Master/detail regions and displays a blank. Any thoughts?
[Moved to Dreamweaver forum by moderator]

Firstly, you shouldn't really 'apply' a template to a page, you should create a child page by going to FILE>NEW>Page from Template.  Too many things can happen when applying a template the way you are doing it. eg:; editable and non-editable regions not matching up and being asked where to place these regions and in all likelihood, you end up with 2 or more of the same region.
When a swf file is inserted into a page, a corresponding Scripts folder is written automatically is stored in the root of the site - it is also linked to in the head of the document. What I believe is happening is that when you apply a template to the page, the Template has no idea that there is a swf file on the page and is not aware of the correct link to the Scripts folder.  If you do a test and add the swf file to the template page itself, I bet that the links to the swf and the scripts folder are correct - because DW knows the correct path to the script file.   Hence the reason the page probably works when you detach it from a template.

  • WCS 5.1: applying AP template fails

Yesterday we installed the new WCS version wih a customer, and they are now running into problems when applying a template.
When they change something in the AP configuration and try to save or apply, they get an error message telling them the they are not connected to the server. Even when doing this on the actual server instead of via a workstations browser.
    Anyone encountered the same problem?

    In //webnms/logs/tomcat_localhost_access_log.2008-08-07.txt
look for these kind of logs
    10.10.1.1 - - [07/Aug/2008:11:22:54 +0200] "GET /webacs/lradTemplateActionForXml.do?%XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX2E66&enablePwd=xxxx&apPwd=xxxx&command=getPasswordValidity HTTP/1.1" 403 33199
For some reason, the webserver reply with HTTP error code 403 (Forbidden).
If it's the case, go to AP templates -> AP Parameters and uncheck "Override Global Username Password" and apply the template.

  • Bridge CS6 crashes when I apply metadata

    Similar problem to this: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5025995
The problem started suddenly last week. If I try to apply metadata or keywords to an image, Bridge closes. Sometimes I can apply one or two keywords before this happens, but not many and it always closes after applying more than a few keywords. Before this started, I had no problems with Bridge CS6.
Have tried updating graphics card drivers, resetting preferences, rebooting, changing the locatioon  of the photos, with no luck.

  • Error when Writing Metadata to Files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC)

We get an error when writing metadata to files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC). In the same drive and folder, the PC can successfully write a keyword to a file on the PC, where the Mac returns an error. I have researched this at the Adobe Knowledgebase, but their answer seemed to indicate it was a global issue, and we don't see that behavior on the PC.
The client is a Mac of course, and the server volume is a Windows share volume. The Mac is bound to AD, and the domain\username and username formats have both been tried when logging in, but you receive the error in both.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Rich Oliver

Hi, I'm having the same problem using FreeNAS (which uses Samba and Netatalk in the backend), but I tried with both AFP and SMB on Mavericks and Yosemite, I still have the same issue.  I think it might be a timing issue with how lightroom interact with a slower write delay using network shares.  I suggest you also chime into this thread:  Lightroom 5 can't write metadata to DNG files   I really hope this is resolved as this is impacting my productivity as I moved my workflow to my Macbook with a shared NAS.

  • Bridge locks briefly when updating metadata on large PSD files

When updating metadata on a large PSD file, Bridge "locks" up for a brief period of time. This is apparently when it's rewriting that large PSD file to update the metadata. I'd like to be able to use Bridge in an uninterrupted fashion while metadata is updated in the background. This normally works for smaller files, just not on large PSD files. You can reproduce this easily by just adding a keyword to a couple 100MB PSD files.
    --John

    Chris,
How large are the PSD files? If they are over 400MB, I think I know what's wrong.
Bridge has a file-size preference, and won't process files that are larger than your setting. You'll find this preference on the Thumbnails panel in the Bridge Preferences dialog. The default is 400MB--try bumping it up to a size larger than your largest PSD and then purge the cache for the folder containing those PSDs.
If that does not work, I'd like to have a copy of one of the PSDs that is not working for you.

  • Apply metadata to unlinked photos, then sync MD when files available

I share my master catalog between a desktop and a laptop. The desktop has all the master files (on RAIDs, archived drives, etc.), so all I have access to when I use LR3 on my laptop are the previews of my files. While I know I obviously can't edit (develop) missing files, what I'd love to be able to do is annotate on my laptop, then when I copy the catalog over to the desktop, it will sync this metadata to the actual xmp sidecar files. As it stands now, one can only apply metadata when the linked files are attached.

So, what the camera writes, the Exif metadata, is inside the photo file, or in another hidden file for each photo?
    It’s “inside” the file.
How come then it happens that sometimes the date changes after you've written the pictures on a CD, and imported them from that later... shouldn't the metadata stay with the file? It happens mostly with early camera phone pictures...
A photo can lose the metadata in imperfect copies, or - in the case of early camera phones - there may have been none at all. In which case iPhoto uses the File “Date Created” instead.
I have a lot of pictures whose dates I really had to change because they were wrong - I just hope this work won't go down the drain further down the road... perhaps when importing into a new Mac, or when using a different program altogether...?
In the case of moving to a new Mac:
Simply move the Library to the new machine. That will get all the data, metadata, originals, edited versions and so on.
    In using a different application:
    1. If it understands the iPhoto Library (like Aperture, for instance) then you will have no issue
    2. If it doesn’t, then you export the Pics from iPhoto (File -> Export) and check the box at Title and Keywords. This will mean that your Titles, Keywords +and Descriptions+ (though not explicitly mentioned) will be written to the IPTC data.

  • How to preserve metadata when exporting non-jpgs from iPhoto?

I have a problem with an iPhoto library, and need to move the photos to an undamaged library.  (I have been able to confirm that the problems are specific to the library and not to individual images or with other iPhoto libraries on the same computer, and rebuilding options have not helped.)  I can export the processed jpgs intact with the metadata (titles, descriptions, keywords) that I added manually in iPhoto, import them to another library, and the metadata is intact.  But unless I convert the TIFF and NEF originals to jpgs, they lose the metadata on export.
Is there a way to get these original format files into another library with their format and metadata intact?

    1. Why not simply rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager
This will do that process for you - and preserve as much of that metadata as possible, along with Albums and much of your organisaion.
    2. You can't export the Original plus the added metadata, then you wouldn't be exporting the Original. You can export the Tiffs as tiffs though, and that can include the additional metadata.
    3. There is no way to write the additional metadata to the NEFs.

  • Metadata panel create metadata template I get an old template

I did click on create metadata template so I should get a new, empy template and not an old one, already filled.

I can get a clean template (with an old title) only if I start Bridge and
press the option key, together, otherwise I won't get a clean template, so I
sort of have to do that all the time, which is not normal.
I agree that this is not normal, meanwhile try to use clear all values and
save as an other name for a safe workaround in stead of refreshing prefs
    every time.
Also, the appearance of the metadata content has changed, probably due to
resetting default preferences.  All of those
items of course do not reflect the items in the metadata preferences, where
everything, really everything stayed checked, and it's tons, really tons of
    them, right?
Resetting Preferences does set the IPTC to show all in Bridge prefs. The
fastest way to correct this is to again to Bridge preferences metadata
section and deselect the checkmark (minus) in front of the name in bold,
this deselects all fields in one time. Now you have only choose the fields
you want to show again in the Metadata panel.
When you also choose to hide empty fields you will have a clean oversight in
the Metadata panel. Also remember, changing checkmarks in Bridge prefs only
affects the view ability of the fields and info in the metadata panel, all
info and metadata is still present in the file (which you can also check in
the menu File/File info or cmd+i)
Is there a way to return to the workspace with larger thumbnails?
Yes, reset workspace or use the slider bottom right to adjust size of
    thumbs.
However useless, like you rightly said, I used to use it to type in individual
descriptions for each tumbnails, from the metadata panel, and the description,
together with the copyright notice and maybe the author, from the template,
did show in the metadata workspace with the larger thumbnails.
As I already stated never to use the Metadata workspace I would advice you
to play around with a workspace for your own workflow. Drag the panels to
left or right (grab the tab with the name of the panel) and move it until
you see a blue line. A single blue line means it fits between the other
panels, a surrounding blue line means it nests as a tab to the same panel.
You have 3 columns to work with and you can also resize the columns and
panels until you are satisfied. After this go to the triangle top right next
to workspace names and choose new workspace. Save it with a proper name and
you can always use this workspace again.
If you have to add info in metadata use the metadata panel for it. Having
same info for multiple files just select all those files and type in this
info only once to apply it to all those files. You can fine tune description
afterwards if you need so for one or more other files by selecting them
    again.
Also Batch rename is a very useful feature (shiftcmdR or tools/batch
rename). You can rename all the selected files in one go with different
sequence number or other options, explore the fields and add or delete a
field with the plus and minus sign.
Is there an attach button in the post so I can send you a screenshot
Use the camera button icon that shows in the reply field of the forum to add
    a file

  • CS4 - using bridge as a DAM application? (metadata question)

    Hello,
I work within the marketing department of a jewelry company that has about 50,000 images on a shared drive and server. There are 10 of us, and we are all running CS4.
I am wondering, is there ANY way, that if I apply metadata/keywords to a photograph, that I could possibly share that information with other users in my work group? So far, I am able to add keywords to my jewelry very easily, but have not been able to access it in a differnet computer connected to the same server. Any way we could do this? Is there any plug-in or simple application that would enable bridge to do this?
    Thank you-

Thanks for doing that search for me- I got some good information out of it. But unfortunately, it still doesn't work right. Even by exporting my Keyword list and cache, other users can not find my files unless they have already previously opened the image once. Very frustrating! I read this, but I don't understand it:
"As I understand it, indexing builds a database that P Bridge uses to find files and match them to thumbnails. It seems that Bridge doesnt use the operating system FAT or file table when it does searches. When searching for a file, Bridge goes to its index to look for it, not the operating system. If its not in the index, bridge cant find it unless you tell it to look for in the un-index files, then it goes to the operating systems file system."
How do I search unindexed information in bridge?

  • Require entry of metadata when creating a folder in a document library

    Sharepoint Foundation 2010 -
While users are required to enter metadata when uploading a document, it would be a tremendous help if they were required to enter metadata when creating a folder inside a document library.
Is there a way to force entry of metadata when creating a folder? And if this is possible, can I create different metadata requirements for documents uploaded inside a folder?
    Thanks.

Yes, you will need to create a Content Types that inherits the Folder Content Type, and then assign your new Content Type to your library. The following blog post explains how to do this (it was written for 2007 but same applies for 2010),
    http://www.sharepoint-guru.com/2007/06/adding-metadata-to-folder.html
You can create additional Content Types to reflect the different types of files, each with their own set of metadata columns and requirements.
