Thanks for your reply - I just open the file with "Open" in the File menu - all my own jpg files open fine in colour. This is someone else's photo given to me and it does not matter how I open it "Open", "Open in raw" or "Open with ..." it always opens in B & W raw in the raw dialogue box. In Elements 9, which I also have on my PC it opens fine as jpg in colour so I can edit it there, but I am just wondering why I am getting this problem in elements 13. If I open it in any other programme such as Windows Photo viewer or Office 2010 viewer it opens fine in colour.
Not sure what you mean by "basic settings" menu.

Cannot get outlook to open

I cannot get outlook to open any more - it has been working fine and now it opens and then immediately the screen goes blank saying its loading more items but never loads. The account works fine on PC and ipad.

I have just downloaded firefox 3.6.11 and adobe flashplayer update and adobe reader update. Now I cannot get firefox to open. I have tried removing the program but when I try to do that it says that I need to close firefox - but of course it is not open

Do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

Try deleting the com.apple.iPhoto.plist.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open iPhoto while holding down the command and option/alt keys and rebuild the library.
iPhoto Library rebuild
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.5. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

On Wednesday 9/28 Comcast changed my modem and now I cannot get Firefox to open, when I click my mouse on the icon I get a brief hourglass and that quickly goes away and Firefox doesn't open.

The extension(s) that AVG installs can certainly be a problem, disable "AVG Safe" for a temporary solution, but it is better to reinstall AVG without the Link Scanner component, and as always be vigilant in rejecting additional crapware, please review all of the following but particularly information concerning "AVG Safe".

I cannot get iWeb to open since upgrading to Lion.

Since upgrading to Lion, I cannot get iWeb to open. The the top title bar comes up but I cannot open or create new pages. Checked this on my mum's iMac and it has the same issue.
Any thoughts in resolving?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

When I clicked on "DesignStandard_CS6_LS16.exe I am told the application can't open because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X. Does anyone know how to contact Adobe directly? I keep going around and around on their site and have found no e-mail or phone number to contact them to get this straightened out. Can anyone point me in the right direction? If you're downloading Pages from the iTunes App Store you're not getting the Mac version, just the iOS version for iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch. They are two separate applications for two different operating systems. To get Pages for your Mac you need to go to the Mac App Store. Either click the icon in the Dock or click on the Apple icon at the top left of your screen & choose App Store.
