Bridge CS3 crash

One of my Macs (G5 Power Mac, 10.4.11, CS3) crashes when browsing certain folders on my Xserve (2009 Xserve, 10.5 Server, Nehalem proc, AFP connections, active directory). One consistency is that it always crashes when browsing to folders containing EPS files, sometimes PDF or TIF files as well.
It looks like the error related to Classes being implemented in multiple locations could be at fault. I may try disabling them in one location to see if it works.
Here is the log when launching Bridge:

Adobe Bridge CS3 crashes on load in my Windows 7 workstation.
I recently completely removed, deactivated and reinstalled all my Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Master Collection to solve some problems with other application from the suite and now I'm surprise Bridge continues to fail. In my portable workstation the same software (Bridge) uses to work.
I tried launching Bridge under several compatibility modes. All failed.
Is there any know bug I should be aware of? Any fix?
    Is this a common problem?

Curt Y. Thank you for your answer.
It was only Bridge who was crashing. It failed to load and Windows was giving an error message.
I tried your suggestion, and resetting all options in the reset window it now loads. It was as simple as that.

  • Bridge CS3 crashes at startup

I've had CS3 installed on my system for a few years and for one reason or another have never gotten around to using Bridge. I wanted to play around with it today but it crashes as soon as I try and start it up:

I've tried the "hold a key to reset preferences" trick and it still crashes right after that. Can anyone help ID what the problem is?
    Thanks,
    J

If you mean hold 'Any key' then there is one of your problems. You should hold down the option key while restarting Bridge and when a menu with three options appears choose refresh preferences and try again.
    BUT
first of all upgrade Bridge to version 2.1.1.9 (and PS to 10.0.1)
That probably should solve your problem :-)
If still no luck quit Bridge go to the user library preferences folder. Inhere find and delete the AdobeBridgeCS3 plist file and delete this to the trash. Restart (again with option key and refresh preferences) and try again

  • Bridge CS3 crashes with RAW folder, CS2 doesn't

I have this folder with all my recent RAW files, 319 shots. If I go to that folder with Bridge CS3, it crashes. I can however go to that folder with Bridge CS2 without it crashing, but I have to drag and drop the file to Photoshop CS3 to work on it. Clicking on the photo in Bridge CS2 just opens it in Preview.
I know it's not that big of a deal and I can still view/open my files with at least one of the version's of Bridge. It just frustrates me because I can't use the updated, and theoretically better, version of Bridge on my RAW files. I'm so used to being able to open up CS3, click on my file, and there it is open in Photoshop ready for me to do my edits.
I've tried toying around with preferences, and nothing works. I've tried dividing the files into sub folders, thinking it was the number of large files in one folder...worked for a while and eventually started crashing when I went to the folder that held the sub folders. Any suggestions as to what to do so I can use CS3.

Hey mine does this too, some one please help!

  • Problems with Bridge CS3 crash freeze and burn

    Hi,
    I am running Bridge CS3 version 2.1. 100 on a MacBook Pro 3
    Intel Core Duo
    2.4 GHz, 2GB ram
I am having some serious Bridge issues. My problems have ranged from it just being very sluggish and slow to Bridge not applying a label to random crashes.
So far today here are the issues:
"Operation Cannot be completed, an unknown OS error has occurred"
    "EventHandler:2976"
Will not apply a label when using the command key or from the tool bar menu
Not responding when quitting from icon in the dock
    freezes when renaming a file
unexpectedly quit while cropping an image in PS CS3
Things I have tried to resolve this:
shift-alt-command and reset all preferences and purged cache
changing the thumbnails preferences to only process 50mb or smaller files
    create small thumbnails
(as a former pc user) I have restarted multiple times...
    Things I have not tried:
    rebuilding OS
    uninstall reinstall
    throwing laptop in bathtub
The files I am working on range in size from 4 mb up to 400 mb .psd files
    Any ideas?

I can't use Bridge CS3 anymore. It freezes on my screen and the only way to close it is with task manager. Had problems with it the first time I loaded it...a full version of CS3, no upgrade. Spoke with 2 Adobe technicians who tried to help, but being a believer in Murphy's Laws I decided to bypass their suggestions which I had already tried.
The best viewer alternatives to Bridge are:
-Fast Stone Image Viewer is shareware and handles .psd files along with RAW, TIFF, JPG, etc. Go to their site an look for yourself. It was so good I sent them the suggested contribution. Adobe could learn a lot from them.
-Use Adobe Lightroom as a viewer and to do preliminary editing before launching the file into CS3. Adobe got it right in Lightroom...how come not in bridge CS3?
-Nikon View NX is good but doesn't show .psd files.
Nikon's Capture NX is a reasonable alternative to CS3 if you get fed up with Adobe. Or go back to PS Elements!
Finally, some lecturing Photoshop gurus have called Bridge "JUNK...you get what you pay for." Correct.
Benefits of JUNK sofware is that you explore alternatives and can be surprised at what's available out there.
Conclusion: Bridge CS3 is meant to be a "bridge" to many PS products, but for me it's a "bridge to nowhere." Make it simple, guys.

  • Bridge CS3 Crashes upon start-up...after a few seconds

Was working fine....then suddenly crashes upon start-up either from within PS (browse) or from launching it.  Same error message.  Reloaded photoshop software, restarted...same problem.  Tried resetting preferences (clicked all three reset boxes).  No change.  Did not add or mod any software that I know of.  Running Vista.  Has been working fine up until a couple days ago.  Any help suggestions?

That is very odd that Bridge still crashes after reseting the preferences. That ususlly does the trick.
Do you use just central or distributed cache (export cqche to folder)?  Purging the cache does not do anything to the distributed cache.  You have to do that manually acording to the adobe document.
Might want to read the adobe document on reseting preferences.
If you look at the photo folders that you were last working on with Windows Explorer do you see any thumbnails that don't display, or any other odd thing that might indicate a corrupt file?

  • Bridge CS3  Crash on startup!!!

    Intel iMac - OSX 10.5.2 CS3
Opening Bridge CS3 (2.1.1.9) causes failure:
"Das Objekt konnte nicht angezeigt werden.
Möglicherweise wurde es verschoben oder umbenannt."
    Prefs deleted - no reaction
Logged in as another user - the APP runs!
    Thanks for your your ideas!

Try to delete the Bridge 'plist' file manually from the user library preferences folder.
    and/or
Run disk utility to check your permissions
If still not working change to a new user. ( but if it is not solved with system maintenance there is something very bad going on or to be happen in the near future and you better use the Archive and Install option for a fresh OSX system...)

  • Bridge CS3 crashing at regular intervals

I've been using Bridge to preview images in filmstrip view, using the arrow keys to scroll through the images and adding labels using the number keys as I go. I haven't counted so I can't be completely accurate, but after ten minutes / 150-200 images or so pressing the arrow key results in a "bong" noise and Bridge freezes, then I get the error message "Bridge has stopped working" and it closes down.
I've tried resetting the preferences by pressing CTRL when launching it, but this made no difference.
In case it's important, I uncheck the box in preferences that requires me to hold the CTRL key when assigning a label to an image using the number keys (so I can use just the number keys to assign a label), and this always needs to be unchecked again when I relaunch Bridge, i.e. the preferences reset themselves.
    I'm running Vista Home Basic.
I've searched through the forum but haven't found anyone having the same problem. Any ideas?
    Thank you.
    Paul

Where do you have cache?  Is it on a specific partition (what size) or just on C drive?
If on C you might defrag it.  The constant write/erase of a cache operation and fragement a drive quickly, and PS needs large blocks of space to write files.
Also, if you change folders while the "wheel" is spinning in lower left corner it can cause crashes.
If you video card is overheating make sure you have adequate circulaltion even if you have to put a block under it to give it more breathing room.
But if it happens at predicitble times it is probably a memory issue.  How much RAM do you have?

  • Bridge cs3 crashes building thumnails

i'm a photographer, trying to cache a 500GB hard drive full of images. bridge crashes when i run it overnight. what a royal pain in the ***.

There are many posts on crashes, but no smoking gun. Older computers don't do well with Bridge. See this post http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c05d861/1
You just have one folder for all pictures?
Also, how much space do you have for cache? May need in excess of 40 gigs, and preferably on different drive than program.

  • PSCS3 & Bridge CS3 complete crash-Help needed

After several months both PSCS3 and Bridge CS3 crashed. After several reboots with no success, I uninstalled everything.
I then reinstalled from scratch. Installed the updates. Now Bridge will not see previously viewed original CR2 files properly. No option to open directly to Camera RAW. When I go to my backup files, the CR2 files work fine.
From original CR2 files and backup files PSCS3 crashes when attempt to move from ACR to PhotoShop.
I am processing a photoshoot. Please help.

  • Adobe Bridge CS3 is crashing everytime it attempts to open.

I am running a MacBook Pro with 10.9.4.  Today when I attempted to open Bridge CS3, it crashed. No error. Just crash. Repeatedly.  I have deleted all Adobe and reinstalled, but Bridge continues to crash. I have used the "shift/option" menu to reset prefs, etc, and it still crashes. I downloaded a supposed patch for Bridge & installed it even though my APP store didn't want me to, and Bridge continues to crash.
I'm a photographer and depend on Bridge as my photo browser.
Any other ideas for me to try?

Well, I don't know what just happened to the gremlins, but get this:
On a whim, I held down only the shift key while attempting once again to open Bridge. And it OPENED without crashing.
I was afraid to let up on the key...but I did and Bridge did not crash. I browsed a couple of photo folders, closed Bridge....reopened it WITHOUT the shift key & it opened. I've now tried that several times and it's not crashing. And while I'm glad it's working, I'm not holding my breath that it will continue to work.  WEIRD.
I'm going to re-start the macbook pro and see what happens.

  • Clicking on Edit- Preferences crashes Bridge CS3 - V2.1.1.9

    Clicking on Edit->Preferences crashes Bridge CS3 - V2.1.1.9
I've tried repairing the installation with PS setup, renaming the preferences file, changing startup folder, clearing cache, and 1 or 2 other things I can't remember.
Once I click on Edit->Preferences Bridge stops working; I never see the preferences dialog window.
I have no idea what the cause is, one moment it was working, the next it wasn't. I hadn't changed any preferences for a while, so the change causing the problem could have been awhile ago.
    Thanks!

Sergei - I just tried opening Bridge by holding down the Ctrl key while double clicking on the QuickLaunch Icon for Bridge. Works just fine, I get the reset window instantly. Bridge does not appear at all. I have to choose Cancel on reset window for Bridge to load. Using Ctrl+Shift+Alt works exactly the same, but takes more finger dexterity. This 3 key sequence was standard with CS2 I understand.
Clicking on Bridge in the Recently Accessed Programs List while holding down Ctrl key also works as described above.
Since you experience something different, it just re-enforces the concept that Bridge acts differently depending on how it is installed, and what is installed on a person's computer.
FYI - the CS3 I have on my computer has never had any other version of PhotoShop on it, so there is no chance of accessing fragments of previous versions. From posts I have seen upgraded versions can cause different responses to the same procedures if all traces of the old program are not overwritten with the new install.

  • AE CS3: Bridge CS3 Causes AE CS3 to Crash on Open

I just wanted to post something here to help out anyone who is running Windows Vista 64-bit with Production Premium CS3.
Both AE CS3 & Bridge CS3 work fine - however when I have bridge open first and then launch after effects, after effects constantly crashes on the title screen.
After looking for several fixes for this, I tried closing bridge. After that I was able to launch AE CS3 just fine. I can then re-open bridge and both programs run just fine.
Another one of those weird quirks. Hope this helps someone out.
    -Charley

Did you try it again?  Just because it crashed once doesn't necessarily mean it will crash every time.

  • Transferring Files Causes Bridge CS3 to Crash

I am using Bridge CS3 as a means of cataloguing a lot of imagery. I have gotten to about 2600 images in one folder and every time I try to drag more into the folder Bridge crashes. Any ideas on how much info a folder can handle, or bridge in general. I am saving these images to a Server so it is not a memory issue on my internal hard drive.

The last version of Bridge CS3 was 2.1.1.9. Make sure you are updated.
That being said, all versions of Bridge 2.x were downright awful, miserable, despicable and intolerable. It should have been fixed for free.
Fortunately, Bridge 3.x in CS4 is a different animal, vastly improved, but it's not free.

  • Suddenly PSE 6 And Bridge CS3 Started Crashing

I've been using PSE 6 along with Bridge CS3 on an iMac for about a year and a half now with almost no problems what so ever. Yesterday Bridge crashed and today PSE 6 crashed twice inside of 20 minutes. Idid an update to iTunes and Quicktime about a week or so ago and an update to Flash a couple of days ago. Other than that nothing has changed on my Mac. Has anyone else suddenly starting having problems or is this just my own problem?
    Thanks,
    lmb

No, I haven't done that. I have never repaired permissions after installing auto updates. I'm not the sharpest on a Mac which leads me to this question:
    how do I repair permissions?
    Thank you much!
