Bridge CS3 Keywords

I am new at this. I cannot attach keywords to pictures. It keeps saying "cannot attach to a read only file".
I went to file info, typed in the info and it still will not attach to the picture. What am I missing here?

Dave
In Bridge point to the problem file (or files) and use right mouse click (or cmd click if you don't have a mighty mouse) in this submenu you can choose to lock or unlock the file. If you see the option unlock the files were locked and that would probably be your problem. You can also unlock them in the finder in the Apple OS itself. Choose one file and choose in the file menu show info (or cmd I) and inhere you will see a checkmark for lock if your files are locked.

  • Lost Bridge CS3 keywords after upgrade to Leopard

So I have have spent many, many man hours assigning keywords to images in Bridge CS3. I then recently upgraded the computer from OSX Tiger to Leopard (not Snow Leopard).
I use Filters to get at the exact images that I am interested in previewing. The first indication that something is wrong is there is far too few hits for the filter I am executing. So I go into the whole image gallery and notice that the images that should have keywords no longer have them.
Also, attempting to add keywords now fails. I assign one, go to another image, come back and no keyword assignment, gone.
During the OS upgrade I saved all support files, including preferences. Those are there including some keywords from before but not all.
Does anyone know how I can recover the other keyowords and how I can get the new ones to stick?
Thanks so much, I am really shut down until I figure this out. My image Library is somewhere north of 35,000 images.

This happened to me too. I spent hours keywording my images, and now almost all of them are gone! Oddly enough some pictures still have keywords left on them, but most does not. I can still find images with keywords through spotlight, but Bridge seems to not notice that they are there.
Is there a way to manually make Bridge aware that these images does in fact have keywords?
Edit: I forgot to say that I just upgraded to Snow Leopard.

  • Bridge CS3 keyword panel search window missing

I am running Bridge CS3 (version 2.0.0.975) on a WinXP desktop and a Win7 laptop. The search window on the keyword panel has disappeared on the laptop, but not on the desktop. I've looked through the Bridge preferences and don't see a setting that would control this, and I haven't found any context menu that would allow me to customize the panel. Can anyone tell me how to get the keyword search window back on my laptop?
    Thank you,
    Terry

Im geting the same... I tried refreshing cache etc... but no avail...

  • Keyword selection function in Adobe Bridge CS3

    Hello,
Does anybody know if and how I can change the "selection criteria" of keywords in Adobe Bridge CS3?
-> selection criteria: If I want to use the filter with the keywords, it selects the images which include any of the selected keywords (OR-function), but I would like to select only those images which have all of the selected keywords(AND-function).
Example: In a holiday folder named "italy", I want to see all pictures with the keywords "beach" and "me". What I get are all the "beach" images and all the "me" images. How can I change this?
Would be great if someone could help me...!
    Thanks!

In the Find box the Match drop down has 2 options. "If all criteria is met" is like "and" while "if any criteria met" is like "or" logic.

  • Tags / Keywords PSE6 -- Bridge CS3 how???

    Hello,
sorry to cause inconvenience to you but i can´t find an answer to my question here in the forum.
I read a lot of similar threads, but no one answerd my problem BridgeCS3 <-> PSE6.
    What i have:
    Bridge CS3 / Photoshop CS3 / Photoshop Elements 6.0
    What i want to do:
At this time i organize all my photos with the Organizer of PSE6 and put keywords
with the Tags-function from PSE6 to my photos.
Now i want to change to the bridge to organize my photos.
    What i need:
Now i need a functionality to import all my keywords/tags from PSE6 into the bridge.
What i have done until now:
In PSE6-Organizer i export all my keywords to a file. The automatic generated file
from PSE6 is named: stichwort.xml . I can´t change the format or name in PSE6 to write the Tags
    to a file.
In the bridge i tried to import the "stichwort.xml"-File, but that doesnt work.. There are no structures
and useable Keywords coming into the bridge.
So... is it general possible to import the Tags/Structure form PSE6 into the BridgeCS3 ??
And when... what´s my fault? Can you give me a hint?
    Thanks for help.
    Bye

There was a post some time ago that I will try to recall - hopefully not too inaccurately. I have never used PSE so don't really know what you are trying to do.
The way I remember it PSE uses some sort of a table for the keywords. Bridge does not, but embeds the information as metadata to each file. Apparently this is more of a standardized format for the data and can be used by other applications.
For a clearer explanation on how the information is handled go to Bridge Help and type in metadata. It does say something about ability to export metadata so maybe that would work for you.
Before you go to all that effort you might investigate how PSE Organizer may handle the data in the future. Can never tell - the next upgrade may change that feature also. Perhaps PSE forum?

  • Adding keywords to MANY pictures with Bridge CS3?

    Hi there,
I am adding keywords to over 10,000 pictures using Bridge CS3.
I'm copying the keywords from their respective sites and pasting them into the metadata fields in Bridge. (Also adding others if they are not included.) I'm also changing them to all lowercase in InDesign so they are not repeated/duplicated. (i.e. "People" and "people".)
There are many folders and sub-folders but they are all under one main folder.
    Two questions:
    1) Anyone know of a easier way to do this?
    2) Is there a way to make the ("People" and "people") problem go away?
    Mac OS X 10.5.5 Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9
    Thanks.

    Thanks again Jim
This was not the answer I wanted to hear. So I contacted Adobe directly- They are very quick- they responded within 24 hours via email of course and reiterated what you said- I guess I just needed "official" word from Adobe, before I went to plan B
Anyways If anyone ever has problems like this where you got a bunch of .m1v files and you need to tag them with metadata- I suggest to do what I am doing and download tmpegenc it is a great little piece of software that will convert your .m1v files to .mpg files that you can now tag within bridge, Beauty
I will NEVER export to .m1v AGAIN
    Thanks TMPEG
    Thanks Jim and Thanks Adobe
    Best Wishes
    Tony

  • Bridge CS3: location of keyword index ???

I know that Bridge stores the actual keyword(s) with the image files but where is the overall "index" located on my hard drive?
The index is the structure that gives the instant access through the images.
    Thanks

That doesn't sound right to me.
My path wasn't quite correct it should have been
    C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge CS3
and the keywords are stored in
    Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml
The cache files contain thumbnail data and these have to be rebuilt if image files are moved but the keywords stay with the image and are referenced by Bridge wherever the file is.
That is my interpretation and I fully agree that the workings of Bridge are not properly documented by Adobe. But don't expect things to improve: the rushed time-scales imposed by the marketeers mean that not only are new releases buggy, but the documentation is inadequate or non-existent. People that want to understand the program have to spend hours sifting through the Knowledge Base (that's a misnomer!) and assorted blogs to find out what's going on.
Welcome to the wonderful new world of user friendly Adobe.

  • Keywords, iPhoto '08 and Bridge CS3

I've got a bunch of photos (10,000) with keywords added with Adobe Bridge CS3. When I import these into iPhoto (with "Copy items to the iPhoto library" checked/enabled), the keywords import.
But when I use iPhoto to add new keywords, these keywords do not get written to the file! They seem to exist only in the iPhoto database. And Spotlight keys off the actual file, so none of my newly added keywords are searchable in Spotlight, only the IPTC keywords on the file. Which is not what I want.
However, if I import a file to iPhoto that has no IPTC keywords on it, and then I add keywords with iPhoto, iPhoto will write these keywords to the file. So it appears that iPhoto won't write out IPTC keywords if the file already has them. That *****. Big time.
Does this mean that if I want to use iPhoto exclusively (abandoning Bridge CS3) to manage my photos etc that I have to somehow strip off all IPTC keywords and then re-import to iPhoto, and then re-tag all my 10,000 files with keywords? Please tell me there is an easier way.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
these keywords do not get written to the file! They seem to exist only in the iPhoto database
This is correct. You can write them to the file on export (File -> Export).
iPhoto is your photo organiser, so the idea is that you don't search in Spotlight but in iPhoto or in a media browser that hooks into iPhoto. Remember, if you're using iPhoto you can't really access the files via the Finder anyway.(* See Below for more)
You do need to choose between Bridge and iPhoto. They do the same job but surfing the iPhoto library with Bridge is one of the more common ways of damaging it.
However, if I import a file to iPhoto that has no IPTC keywords on it, and then I add keywords with iPhoto, iPhoto will write these keywords to the file. So it appears that iPhoto won't write out IPTC keywords if the file already has them.
I'm afraid that I'm not sure the point you're making. iPhoto will read the IPTC tags and add to them on export.
*There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards

  • Metadata in Bridge CS3 lost after editing NEF file in Capture NX2

Entered keywords and metadata in Bridge CS3, edited NEF file in Capture NX2 and then all metadata in Bridge got lost even if I did not edit any metadata in Capture.
Original Bridge metadata are still saved in XMP file but Bridge does not show them nor can search or sort photos by them.
Is it a Bridge bug or is it connected with any settings?
    Win XP, Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9, Capture NX2 2.2.0, Nikon D300
Will appreciate any help, thanks a lot.

First I renamed photos in Bridge - sidecar XMP files were created with the new filename already, added some keywords and metadata in Bridge. Edited photo in Capture but not changed the name again - the result was the Bridge does not show edited metadata and keywords anymore even all those info are still saved in sidecar XMP file. Capture apparently does not change XPM in any way.
It looks like all the problems are connected with renaming files in Bridge before editing them in Capture as if Bridge cannot read XMP after Capture added its own info in NEF file.

  • Bridge cs3 mac 2.1.1.9 will not append metadata

I've been using Bridge CS3 for a long time now on my iMac 2Ghz Core Duo (Tiger OS X 10.4.11) with 2 GB of RAM
I have been using the same metadata template for a year, and have updated to Bridge 2.1.1.9
Starting today, whenever I try to append metadata to a 1.6 Gb folder of images (Nikon D300 jpg's), I get the error message "There was a problem writing metadata to...."
I have held the option key at Bridge startup , purged the folder cache, and checked the "Use Software rendering" option in preferences
I have tried appending metadata to a smaller folder with the same results
I use Bridge every day to tag and keyword photos - please help me to get this working again

I split the files into 2 folders and tried to append metadata on a folder that contained 99 files totaling 568MB
    That did not work
I removed the file that was first reported as "problem writing metadata..", purged the folder cache and tried again - the error occurred on the very next file numerically
The error always seems to start with the highest-numbered file in the folder
I have also tried replace metadata and that does not work
I have also tried to enter metadata manually and then apply it to all the images in a folder - that does not work either
Maybe this 2.1.1.9 update has broken metadata somehow?

  • Searching Custom fields Bridge CS3

    Hello
I created a custom file info dialog box in Bridge CS3 using the audio data 1.txt file located @ C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels. I just modified the fields in that panel to my own custom fields.
Now I saved as test.txt in the same location as the audio data 1.txt file- and my new custom panel shows up in the metadata panel and I can add values to my custom fields as I would any other. My question is - how do I search these fields as they do not show up in the filter panel- Is it possible to have these fields show up in the filter panel?
    Thanks

    OK
    I guess I haven't explained myself clearly-
Forget about keywords- Keywords are dead to me
If you go to the metadata panel in Bridge you see
    File properties
    IPTC Core
    Audio
    Video
    Audio Data 1
    Audio Data 2
    etc...
Take "Audio Data 1" for example
I modified that .txt file so that where the field was Artist- I changed it to Sport
    So now I can add
Baseball in the sport field so my custom panel looks like this
    Sport: Baseball
    Team: Wildcats
    Player; JG
    Position: CF
my question really is- about the filter panel- the Sport, Team, Player, Position fields do not show up in there, instead Artist, Album, and Genre show up in the filter panel. and When you click on the dropdown box for Artist it reads baseball- I need to change the Artist to Sport just like in the metadata panel so in the future these custom fields can be searched

  • Bridge CS3- My find command has quit working, any help?

In my Bridge CS3 the find command cannot find any of the keywords that I spent hours adding. It has been working fine, but one day stopped. I have deleted the plist, the cache, and the recent workspace to no effect. I have not added any new software recently. It doesn't work if I am searching a file that I have open in Bridge so it is not a matter of not waiting long enough for the thumbnails to generate. Those were the only suggestions I found anywhere. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I am running this on a Mac if that makes a difference.

I may have to upgrade as you suggest. I did find one thing that is interesting, though it doesn't explain where the problem comes from. If I open a folder in Bridge that holds files that I have added keyword to, when I close it Bridge can find those files with the find command. I am not sure why opening the folders would make a difference, but it seems to. This only works one when searching one sub-folder deep. If there is another folder in that, even though I've opened it, it will not find it.
I guess until I am ready to spend the money to upgrade I will spend an evening opening all my keyworded folders. I better find a good video to watch while doing it!

  • Slow Bridge CS3

No matter what I do, Bridge CS3 runs slowly. Selecting multiple items take a almost 4 seconds each one I click on, with the usual result of them all opening in Camera RAW before I am ready.
I have made countless calls to customer support, reset preferences, clear edcaches, been told I shouldn't have so many images in a folder even though this is supposedly a professional application (I currently have 64 Nikon NEF files, about 10 MB each in a folder), been told to uninstall & reinstall Bridge & CS3 (which I just did), reinstall system (ditto), among others.
The only way to make it run a little faster is to create a new folder each time, drop the images into it, and work as quickly as I can before it slows to a crawl.
To add insult to injury, I am now trying to create a sub keyword (a keyword under a keyword) as I have done hundreds of times. I can create on called Connecticut, but if I try to create one called Westport, Connecticut, it fails to be created. Just plain Westport works, however.
And, if I open multiple images in the Camera Raw (4.4.1) window, make adjustment to them, then, with only one selected, click option and cancel (reset), I cannot just reset one images as I could do before. I now get a new window saying "Reset all changes, including changes to non-selected images" No/Yes. Where did this come from?
    I am out of ideas.
I am using Bridge 2.1.1.9, on a G5 quad, running OS 10.4.11, 8.5 GB of RAM.
    Thanks,
    R

    Robert
As stated before, delete the cache file and after restart you would have the same folder with Bridge Store (but it should contain 31 visible document files, the "FileSystem_Blobs.MYD" is the largest one and can grow up to 16 GB followed by "FileSystem_Nodes.MYD" with several MB's the rest of the folder is very small, 2 with several 100 KB and the rest with 28, 16, 12 4 and even zero KB in size)
The mysql folder should contain 45 document files each at a small size.
If you can't see the contents you should surely delete it to create a new one with a restart of Bridge.
I'm not sure where the distributed cache (which in my opinion is a preferred setting!) is written to besides in the xmp file (or with DNG in the file itself) but deleting the cache as described does keep all the metadata and ACR settings unchanged.
Also deleting of the ACR cache does not change the earlier changed settings.
It's just a good way to a fresh start :-)

  • Where are Bridge's keywords stored?

Hey I am using Bridge CS3.
My image storage methodology in brief:
I have a partition on my main work station that acts as my image storehouse. I have the same on my laptop. I have Bridge pointing at those partitions, receptively on each computer.
When in the field I use the laptop as dump for the cards that I fill from the digital camera. I do some work in the field, on the laptop, such as rotating, sorting and some basic metadata work like keyword assignment.
When I get back to the main workstation, I copy the image material over from the laptop just as I had arranged them in the field. The beauty of this methodology, with Bridge's help, is that the rotations and keywords, written to the metadata, stick to each image.
But there is one problem that does drive me crazy.
I have a lot of keywords and I organize them in sets but when I open my transfered images I do not get the set that was on the laptop or vice versa. Instead I get my assigned keywords in 'Other Keywords"
I would like to copy the set from one computer to the other so that each was the same setup. But I cannot locate where these keywords are stored for the Bridge application. I looked in the Bridge application folder, I looked in the user library, Adobe folder, Application Support, I even looked into the App's package contents. Nothing is leaping out at me as the obvious place, nothing is labeled keywords.
Can someone tell me what file or applet this information is stored in?
    Thanks a million times.

    Beverly,
As a cautionary note, I absolutely and utterly detest and despise iPhoto.
Having gotten that out of the way, in Bridge you don't have to deal with libraries or albums, and you don't need to
"import" anything. If the Finder can see it, so can Bridge--in the same place.
You can use either the Finder
    or
Bridge to move and organize your files any way you want, and the files will be visible to both applications.
iPhoto hides your imported photos in packages the Finder and other applications can't access. Neither can iPhoto see or find photos you haven't "imported" into its libraries.
Bridge can see, browse and hand to other applications all kinds of files, not just photos, like PDFs, Illustrator file, MS Word files, text clippings, picture clippings, whatever.
Read the manual, the help files, the video tutorials accessible through Bridge home on your machine, etc. You can also google
    Adobe Bridge Tutorials.

  • IView Media Pro erases adjustments and ratings in Bridge CS3 and Camera RAW 4.2

OUCH! I seem to have lost about a day's worth of work. I rated and adjusted my Canon cr2 RAW files using Bridge CS3 and ACR 4.2. Then I used iView Media Pro 3.1.3 to add keywords. When I opened the files back up in Bridge CS3, my ratings and adjustements were gone. Actually, when I open the sidecar files in a text editor, I can see the adjustments, but ACR and Bridge can't read them. Anyone else seeing this? If so, how do you fix it or work around it???
    Edward McCain

Have you tried purge cache for folder?
iView Media Pro is now Expression Media 1, maybe this 'upgrade' works for you.
You know that you can add keywords and sets in Bridge as well?
