Bridge CS3 - Metadata profile leaves Copyright Status blank!

Using Bridge CS3 I have created a metadata template which against Copyright Notice I have filled in my name. When I add the template to an image file all the information successfully transfers but the Copyright Status field states: Unknown where I expected to read Copyrighted. When creating the profile where do I enter Copyright Status information? Copyright Notice seemed the obvious box to complete and no other field appears obvious. Help would be appreciated. Victor

(PSE does not have Bridge):
PSE for mac did for several years.
For the OP, I see the same thing in 10.7: only the words "copyright notice" rather than the complete copyright data are appended. I'm not sure if this is because CS3 is so old now, but I do agree with Ken's suggestion to ask in the bridge forum.

To my memory this was not able in Bridge CS3 itself but not sure about it. Normal you would choose the wing menu from the Bridge Metadata panel to create a template. And I believe this was a bit limited in Bridge CS3.
The workaround is to either choose file info in the Bridge menu file or do so in PS itself on an open file. From the given options you should fill in the fields you want.
And for the copyright status you must choose from the three options: 'unknown', 'copyrighted' or 'public domain'
When all fields are as you want them save it as template and you should be OK.

  • Aperture to Photoshop: Copyright Status = "Unknown"

Does anyone know of a way of applying metadata in A3 so that it will show up as "Copyrighted" when opened in Photoshop (CS3 & CS4, next to Copyright Status in the File Info box) instead of PS displaying copyright "Unknown"?
    Thanks

    FizzyFizz:
There is no way to set the +Copyright Status+ to "Copyrighted" as this is not part of the IPTC Core namespace (or IPTC-IIM either). Apple is only supporting IPTC Core 1.0 (which was released in 2005) and having some issues with that as witnessed in the other article referenced in this thread. It might help you to review the article *"How Important is the Copyright Status Feature?"* at http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/imagedatabases/is-copyright-status-important .html for details.
    Hope that helps.

  • Metadata template created in Bridge can't change "Copyright Status" property

If I create a metadata template in Bridge CS4, select Copyright Status and set it to Copyrighted,
any other metadata changes in the template will be applied, but "Copyright Status won't change.
I can't even manually set the Copyright Status from within Bridge.  If I try, I get an error message,
    "This property cannot be modified."
Here's the workaround — create the template in Photoshop or Illustrator, not Bridge.
Open one of the images in Photoshop or Illustrator, select File Info, enter the metadata,
and select Export.  The resulting template will be available in Bridge,
and it can change the Copyright Status.
A fix for this in the next incarnation of Bridge would be greatly appreciated.

As with almost all my problems, there is apparently no solution, so I am going to try reinstalling photoshop. So can someone at least tell me what is likely to be overwritten so that I can protect it.  And where they are stored? EG Web Gallery templates?  Keywords?

  • How to Delete Copyright Status in Bridge Metadata

I have added a copyright status field to bridges metadata by way of a metadata template. How can I delete the status copyrighted. I have made a metadata template with copyright set to unknown, but when I apply it in bridge in does not change the field. Any ideas?
    thanks, Joe

    This should do it...
    #target bridge
       if( BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge" ) {
    copyUnknown = MenuElement.create("command", "Copyright to Unknown", "at the end of Thumbnail");
    copyUnknown.onSelect = function () {
         copyUnknownSet();
    function copyUnknownSet(){
    var sels = app.document.selections;
      for (var i = 0; i < sels.length; i++){
    var md = sels[i].synchronousMetadata;
        md.namespace = "http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/rights/";
        md.Marked = "Unknown";

  • Setting copyright status in Bridge CS4 (Mac OS 10.5.5)

I'm trying to add photographer's copyright status in the IPTC Core Metadata but the status is set to 'unknown' and the line is greyed out - double-clicking it returns the message 'This property cannot be modified'.
Many thanks for any advice on how to do this.

You can't change this in Bridge itself. If you open an image in PSCS4 you can create a template with the copyright included.
Choose the menu File - file info
In CS4 this is a new set up compared to CS3, it is now a Flash based window. You can drag the tabs to a new order you like best. If you choose the Description tab you will see the copyright status section. Choose copyright by clicking on the little arrow. Then fill in the other desired info in the other fields you like to add to the template.
After finishing choose the arrow next to Show templates at the bottom, click on the arrow and a new submenu appears where you can choose export. This will save the new template, give it a proper name and your done in PS.
Now enter Bridge and in the metadata panel you can choose the little arrow top right in the panel. In this menu choose append metadata and pick the newly created template. This will add the correct info at the copyright status field.
If you are using the Adobe Photodownloader you can also choose to add this template to the files during import :-)

  • Bridge CS3 not writing metadata to JPEG files

For the last couple of months (without my noticing until a couple days ago) all JPEG files that I have edited using Bridge CS3 (on Windows XP) do not have the metadata built into the file. Here are the symptoms: use "File Info" to edit the metadata for a JPEG file (i.e. add a title, description, copyright info, etc.), all appears normal, but if you do any of the following, the metadata you entered disappears:
    - duplicate (the metadata does not exist in the duplicate file)
    - move or copy to another folder
    - open in Photoshop or any other software that can read metadata (File Info shows none of the metadata you entered)
    - rebuild the cache for the folder
Strangely, the metadata still appears with the file when you look at it in Bridge as long as you don't do any of the above.
This is really awful as I've put a lot of time into entering this metadata for hundreds of files. Older files (pre-Nov 08) don't have this problem and the metadata is "sticky" and doesn't get deleted. So, somehow my Bridge CS3 got corrupted along the way.
Has anyone experienced this and more importantly -- do you have a solution? I've tried reseting all Bridge settings (but that of course purged the cache and deleted all my metadata.)

    Hey,
There are various date/time fields shown in properties panel in Organizer. The dates mentioned in general section are read from OS whereas the dates in EXIF field are read from image's EXIF data. In EXIF data there are three date/time fields-
    1. Date time- This date/time info shows date modified of EXIF properties. So when you are writing a tag into imags's IPTC, you are doing some change in EXIF data. Hence this date should change to date when you are writing a tag into IPTC.
    2. Date time original - Represents date time when a image was shoot.
    3. Date digitized - Represents the date when the image was digitized (in digital camers there is hardly some delay between an image is shoot and it is digitized. So this field is always same as date original).
So, in your scenario, Date time in EXIF should change whenever you are writing any tag into its IPTC.
Please let me know if you need more info on it.

  • Nikon D60 - Bridge CS3 cannot write Metadata

{This is a follow on to thread: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b6704d/1}<br /><br />It appears that Bridge CS3 is unable to write some of the IPTC metadata to pictures taken with my Nikon D60.  When trying to change some metadata in a file I get the message "There was an error writing metadata to <filename>"<br /><br />Strangely this does not happen with all metadata fields. For instance, I can change the IPTC Core "City" or "Location" and the change works just fine. However, if I try changing IPTC Core "Creator" or "Copyright Notice" I get that error.<br /><br />I have confirmed that the problem is with the D60 pictures, as it occurs in two different machines (Both CS3, one Vista, one XP).  Both machines are able to edit other camera's pictures OK.  All files are in JPEG format, I have not tried anything in RAW format.<br /><br />I did find in a completely different forum (for BreezeBrowser, which I've never used) a reference to a similar problem.  At least in that forum they mention that the Nikon D60 uses a "different" way of storing metadata which leads to the problem.  BreezeBrowser will release a new version to address this issue.  <br /><br />Any idea what the solution might be for Bridge and other Adobe products?<br /><br />Thanks!<br />Carlos

I don't have my camera with me at the moment, so I'll have to shoot in NEF later. However, just for kicks I downloaded the latest version of ACR and checked against my current version. It appears to be the same (same size, same timestamp). I even replaced it, per the instructions with the download. No love.
As mentioned in my original post, the issue is limited to a few fields, in particular "Creator" (XMP) or "By-line" (IPTC). I went and added new data to this field using ExifTool. I added it to both IPTC and XMP fields since I know Bridge synchronizes them. The change took, and Bridge noticed it. But now Bridge will not let me modify any XMP/IPTC metadata. It won't even let me change the rating of the file!
I'm really at a loss here. I've searched through other threads and haven't found anything to enlighten me.

  • Please make "Copyright Status" an editable option in creating metadata templates

I'm new to the Adobe eLearning suite, including Bridge CS4.  I've found a workaround in the forums for this issue already, but I really think this is something that Adobe should fix in the Bridge software itself.  Apologies if someone else has already posted this as a feature request in this forum, but as it seems I'm unable to search within just this forum, I gave up looking.
In a nutshell: "Copyright Status" should be a field available when choosing what IPTC Core metadata to include in a new metadata template.  And it's also not an editable field when looking at the metadata for an image!  The whole point of metadata templates is to make it unnecessary to edit a single field (like "Copyright Status") one image at a time.  Yet even with the new Bridge CS4, the Copyright Status field is not an option you can include in a new metadata template.  Surely it wouldn't be that big a deal to make the 3-item pick list of "Unknown," "Copyrighted" and "Public Domain" available on the Create Metadata Template checklist.  Or if having a pick list is too tricky to code on that form and it must be just a checkbox item, do that, and let us populate the text in the field ourselves.
Currently, it's necessary to tweak the metadata on a single image to include the "Copyrighted" status, then Export it and save it as a new metadata template, just to have that one field populated by default.  Supplying copyright status as part of a template is a fundamental need for anyone creating or dealing with large numbers of images, and it shouldn't require a workaround to create a properly inclusive metadata template.
    Thanks!

In Bridge CS4, highlight your thumbnail, go to the File Menu and select File and then File Info.  There you will be able to choose your Copyright Status under the Description tab.  What a pain in the butt!  Mine kept coming up "Public Domain!"

  • Adding metadata to .m1v files in Bridge CS3

I have video files (no audio) .m1v files that I need to tag with Metadata in bridge. One problem when I try to do this in Bridge CS3 version 2.1.1.9- I get an error message saying
"The file "filename.m1v" cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur"
Does anyone know of a workaround to this problem
2 solutions I have already considered are to
    1. rename the files to .mpg, but there are many files and I do not want to corrupt any of them
    2. Don't export to .m1v files- instead use .mpg ALWAYS- (export silent audio track)
So anyone? any other ideas of what can be done
    Thanks
    Tony

    Thanks again Jim
This was not the answer I wanted to hear. So I contacted Adobe directly- They are very quick- they responded within 24 hours via email of course and reiterated what you said- I guess I just needed "official" word from Adobe, before I went to plan B
Anyways If anyone ever has problems like this where you got a bunch of .m1v files and you need to tag them with metadata- I suggest to do what I am doing and download tmpegenc it is a great little piece of software that will convert your .m1v files to .mpg files that you can now tag within bridge, Beauty
I will NEVER export to .m1v AGAIN
    Thanks TMPEG
    Thanks Jim and Thanks Adobe
    Best Wishes

  • Metadata in Bridge CS3 lost after editing NEF file in Capture NX2

Entered keywords and metadata in Bridge CS3, edited NEF file in Capture NX2 and then all metadata in Bridge got lost even if I did not edit any metadata in Capture.
Original Bridge metadata are still saved in XMP file but Bridge does not show them nor can search or sort photos by them.
Is it a Bridge bug or is it connected with any settings?
    Win XP, Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9, Capture NX2 2.2.0, Nikon D300
Will appreciate any help, thanks a lot.

First I renamed photos in Bridge - sidecar XMP files were created with the new filename already, added some keywords and metadata in Bridge. Edited photo in Capture but not changed the name again - the result was the Bridge does not show edited metadata and keywords anymore even all those info are still saved in sidecar XMP file. Capture apparently does not change XPM in any way.
It looks like all the problems are connected with renaming files in Bridge before editing them in Capture as if Bridge cannot read XMP after Capture added its own info in NEF file.

  • Bridge cs3 mac 2.1.1.9 will not append metadata

I've been using Bridge CS3 for a long time now on my iMac 2Ghz Core Duo (Tiger OS X 10.4.11) with 2 GB of RAM
I have been using the same metadata template for a year, and have updated to Bridge 2.1.1.9
Starting today, whenever I try to append metadata to a 1.6 Gb folder of images (Nikon D300 jpg's), I get the error message "There was a problem writing metadata to...."
I have held the option key at Bridge startup , purged the folder cache, and checked the "Use Software rendering" option in preferences
I have tried appending metadata to a smaller folder with the same results
I use Bridge every day to tag and keyword photos - please help me to get this working again

I split the files into 2 folders and tried to append metadata on a folder that contained 99 files totaling 568MB
    That did not work
I removed the file that was first reported as "problem writing metadata..", purged the folder cache and tried again - the error occurred on the very next file numerically
The error always seems to start with the highest-numbered file in the folder
I have also tried replace metadata and that does not work
I have also tried to enter metadata manually and then apply it to all the images in a folder - that does not work either
Maybe this 2.1.1.9 update has broken metadata somehow?

  • Metadata & XMP files in Bridge CS3 under Windows XP

Question regarding Bridge CS3, 2.1.1.9, on a computer running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3:
A useful feature seems to have disappeared from my installation of Bridge. In Horizontal Filmstrip view, I used to see a little icon over the thumbnails showing the CR2 files that I had opened and processed in Camera Raw. The icon was a small circle with a downward-pointing triangle, if I recall. The CR2 files that I had never opened in Camera Raw did not show that icon. Now I never see the icons, even for those CR2 files for which the XMP file is present in the same folder as the CR2 file.
Is there a way that I can get Bridge to display those icons again?
    Thanks.

CS3 does have a symbol for a modified RAW thumb. This differentiates if from the unmodified RAW thumb. A circle with 2 arrows in it I believe.

  • Bridge CS3 frozen

I am using a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.3 and have been having ongoing problems with my Bridge CS3 running slowly and freezing after being in use for many hours.
My immediate problem is:  I went into preferences/cache and checked the 'Automatically Export Caches to Folders When Possible' box thinking that it would help the program run more smoothly, and now Bridge is unresponsive.  I have tried force quitting, restarting both the program and my computer, and still Bridge is frozen.
When I launch Bridge CS3 the program window appears on the screen, and if I move fast enough it allows me to perform one click (I have tried directing it to a smaller folder and/or opening preferences and unchecking the 'automatic export caches to folders' as well as purging my cache).  Once I have made my one click, the program freezes again.   There is also a little spinning icon in the bottom left corner of the window that indicates that something is happening, but even after letting the program run for up to an hour, nothing.
Using Bridge is a vital aspect of my running my business ~ I am dependent on it, so need to use it daily.  Please help me resolve this issue.  I am dead in the water until I get Bridge up and functional again.
    Thanks!
    Susan

One last question: I'm a professional photographer, but I do not depend on
cached folders and files.  I edit in Bridge, previewing almost every image
(there are thousands of them - hi res too), and then process only the choices
(very few) in Camera Raw, and then retouch in Photoshop; saving my finished
files in new folders on my external drive (which is backed up).  I don't
understand the value of cached folders.  Can you explain please.
    HI Susan
Glad to hear your problems are solved, just keep a record of this method, as
long as you are in CS3 you will certainly need it again sooner or later I'm
    afraid...
The value of keeping folders cached can be very great although keeping the
Cache forever is not the best choice. But that is the way Bridge works. You
can compress the cache and customize  the size (that is, in CS5) so it
overwrites the oldest files but still not ideal in my opinion.
I have a similar workflow as you do with selecting lot's of files and use
only a few to work with. But I don't use much separate folders, usually have
one main folder that is set in Photodownloader as default destination.
I use PDL for downloading from card reader, converting to DNG, renaming with
shot date and sequence number and adding metadata template with copyright
and back up original Raw files to separate HD.
Having Bridge mostly pointed to that main folder the caching starts
automatically for the files (Always HQ) and when the downloading is finished
the caching is almost also done. Plus I don't have to navigate to many
    different folders.
Mostly I don't start immediately on a large project for several reasons and
therefore put them away in stacks. I sometimes have 5 or 6000 files in this
folder but with organizing in stacks it is very easy to overview and find
    them back.
And here is for me the great value of a cached folder, The next day after
restart I can immediately start again to work on that folder and see the
previews in HQ and being able to start selecting with arrow keys and
    cmd+.(dot) to increase rating.
The none selected (using the filter panel to sort and select those easily),
go to separate folders (one folder each day) for my DNG archive using drag
and drop in the folder panel. I don't bother about caching for them, if I do
I use the prefer embedded method, fast and for that purpose enough quality.
The developed  DNG files (rated/labeled) are after finishing in PS moved to
the same DNG archive (with rating and settings so if needed easy traceable).
The saved PSD files go in an other main folder and after adding additional
metadata (IPTC description etc)and proper renaming I can distribute them
with Save as actions customized in size and resolution for client needs,
    leaving the originals untouched.
It would be nice if Bridge was also able to work as a Digital Asset
Management Application but during the cycle from file browser in PSCS to
current Bridge 4 in PSCS5 it failed me many times for this purpose and to be
honest it still is not capable to work with tons of files in a way a
specialized DAM application does. Mainly due to cache problems and slow
    indexing and find options.
Each new version is getting better (faster, stable) but I decided to use
Canto Cumulus as DAM for my main archive of finished imaged that I need to
keep and easy to find. Cumulus does so and I'm very happy with that
It would also be preferable if Bridge deleted cache for older files but to
be honest, I yet have to figure out how that can be done together with
    satisfaction for all users....
Meantime I can't imagine working without Bridge and I learned to live with
deleting the cache file (in my case it grows sometimes to 35 GB in size)
every now and then. As said, for CS3 very often CS4 and especially CS5
rarely and mainly for saving space

  • How to embed my name within multiple image's EXIF data at once-Bridge CS3

I've been trying to figure out how to do this for some time and just can't understand how to get my images both Raw and JPEGs to show my name in the EXIF copyright or author entry when entering it in the "File Info" dialog box so it shows up viewing EXIF data using EXIF Viewer or within Bridge CS3.
Can I get some help on this? Point me to a tutorial or something?
I've already read Bridge Help and it's worded in such a way that isn't very clear to me on how to do this.
Thank you for your help on this.

Let me see if I understand this correctly. That "Digital Workflow 1" pdf told me to uncheck all IPTC boxes which is opposite what you just said.
You are free to create the workflow that suits you, check or uncheck IPTC in Bridge prefs is only a way to organize the view in the metadata panel, not adding or deleting info from it.
So I'm suppose to enter my name in the IPTC Contact-"Creator" entry section within the "File Info" dialog box of a selected image/images within Bridge CS3 and check the IPTC boxes in the Metadata section of Bridge's Preferences dialog box to turn them on so my name I entered as "Creator" in "File Info"/IPTC can be seen in the Metadata placard Bridge work space interface but does NOT guarantee my name will be EMBEDED IN THE EXIF of the selected image/images?
As above, all info you add to IPTC and apply to an image is embedded in the exif and xmp data of that file, no matter if the boxes are checked or unchecked for visibility in metadata panel.
IOW checking the IPTC boxes in Bridge's Metadata Preferences is just for previewing within Metadata Placard work space interface in Bridge? I'm using Filmstrip view as a Bridge work space BTW.
Yes. And consider an other workspace for metadata, I attach some screenshots from my workspace I crerated myself in Bridge using the prefs and drag and drop with panels. It is from Bridge CS4 and apart from the top pathbar it is basicly the same as CS3.
Filmstrip is very nice for sorting with big preview but not the best for adding metadata. You can create as many workspace as you like and you can easily switch between them (in CS3 use the number buttons bottom right.
To actually embed my name entered as "Creator" in "File Info" IPTC section in a selected image/image's EXIF data I have to apply a custom made template to the image/images already residing on the hard drive and viewed in Bridge OR append the IPTC data within the EXIF of the image/images upon import from camera CF card reader through Bridge's "Get Photos From Camera" drop down menu. Correct?
Yes, I have choosen for the last option because now all my downloaded files have this template in it and I don't have to bother later. No matter if the files are keepers or not. You only have to create a template once. See also a screenshot from the info I filled to the template but it is up to you what you like to appear in there.
Another question, what is the difference between the "Description" section where you can enter "Author" (which would be my name) and the IPTC Contact section where you can enter "Creator" (again, my name) both within "File Info" dialog box?
check this wikipedia info about IPTC:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Press_Telecommunications_Council
Another question, I just selected a batch of images within a folder in Bridge and tried to create a Metadata Template and it shows a blank box with a statement at the bottom "Only checked properties will be added/changed to this template"...and below this "Properties selected: 0". What and where are checked properties? Does that mean I have to check the IPTC boxes in Bridge's Metadata Preferences?
Don't know that. You should first create a template without selecting multiple files. After you saved this template select the files you want to change and click on the append template option.
I have to wonder how and why another photographer would need all this nested clutter to accommodate alternate workflows on something as simple as input/output processing on a batch of images. It's beyond my understanding. This just seems way too complicated to have to sort out. Just my opinion.
Nothing is ever that simple as it seems....
