Bridge CS3 - "Open in Camera Raw..." no longer working

The "Open in Camera Raw..." feature for JPG is no longer available in Bridge CS3. It was just working last week but now it does not appear when I right click on an image, it's grayed out in the menu and Command-R is disabled. Anyone know what's up? Doesn't work from Photoshop CS3 either.

There are 3 places to check this option, 1 in Bridge preferences itself, 1 in the camera raw preferences via Bridge and the last one in the PS preferences from PSCS3 itself.
They all should have a checkmark. But there are some issues with this option. You might also want to refresh the preferences with restarting Bridge an holding down option key and after doing so again check and set the prefs to your wishes.

  • Bridge CS3 "Open in Camera Raw" unavailable (grayed out)

I am using Bridge CS3 (2.0.0.975; and Photoshop CS3) under Vista Home Premium. I have two accounts on this system (one administrative "root," and my primary limited user account).
My problem: under my primary account (even if I switch it to administrative), unless I open raw files with ACR, I cannot access "Open in Camera Raw..." under the file menu (as it is grayed out and inaccessible while trying to open jpg files, etc.). However, using the administrative account I can access/use the command. I tried uninstalling CS3, switching my primary to administrative and reinstalling using my primary account, but it still appears grayed out and I still cannot open files using the abbrev "Ctrl+R." Note, I can open jpg files in ACR, but this must be the default for all jpg files not ones that I select to open.
Also, under preferences>Labels, I need to uncheck the "Require the Control Key to Apply Labels and Ratings" every time Bridge is restarted as it will not save from startup to startup. Any help is appreciated. --Greg

Purge the cache from that folder...if that doesn't work, you may need to reset your Bridge prefs. Since you didn't bother to post your OS (pretty basic info) you'll need to check your OS's process for resetting the Bridge prefs.

  • "Open in Camera Raw" no longer listed... "Test in Device Central" now shows...

If anyone has a moment and knows what the problem is I would appreciate the help. I have been using Bridge for a while now and I always open my pics in Camera Raw before sending them to CS3. The other day as I went to open in Camera Raw I noticed the option was gone. Not only was it gone, but it was replaced with "Test in Device Central". I have no idea what I've done to cause this. If anyone has had this issue or knows how to troubleshoot it then I would be sincerely grateful. I'm using a Mac OS X 10.4.11. Thank you!

Added by edit - bum information, for Windows CS4 hold down the control key and then start up Bridge, a dialog box will pop up enabling you to reset the preferences.

  • Bridge File Open in camer raw, is grayed out. Camera raw works in PS.

Why, when a raw file open in Bridge with a double click opens in camera raw, that same file in bridge the 'open camera raw' option in the file menu is grayed out?

  • Set bridge to open in Camera raw

I want to click on file in finder and open in Raw ready to edit, not bridge, then have to select the image again

Not quite sure what you want.
By Finder, is this Bridge or some other program?
A RAW file opens in Adobe Camera Raw, either from Bridge or Photoshop,  ready to edit or open as is, so not sure what you mean you don't want it to open in Bridge.

  • Camera Raw no longer works

Im trying to figure out why my Camera Raw plugin seems to have stopped working. I am using CS3, with the 4.5 plugin installed in the correct place, and my camera is the digital rebel XSi, which is on the list of supported cameras with the 4.5 plugin. The plugin was working for me fine for a while, and then when i tried to use it today it said that it was an unsupported file format when I opened it in Photoshop, and none of the camera raw preferences are showing up in bridge. I just recently installed Lightroom 2, would that have affected it in any way? Any help on this matter would be appreciated. I am on a MacBook Pro, running 10.5.4. Thank you!

Did you try using CR to open an older XSi file? (e.g., one that you have already opened successfully in the past?)
The idea is to find out whether your new XSi file happens to be corrupted.

  • NEF files not opening in camera raw in CS5

I have lightroom 3.2 and photoshp CS5 extended
I am running if 64 bit in Windows 7
If I try to open a .nef file from lightroom usinf crtl-e it does not open in the raw editor.  it goes directly to what I would call the jpeg editor.
Now can I get my .nef files to open from lightroom into CS5?
If I open the .nef file from bridge it opens in camera raw just fine, or if I open it from windows explorer it opens in camera raw.
    Help! this is very frustrating!!
    Thanks in advance.

If LR is 3.2 and ACR is 6.2 (or they are otherwise synchronized to an older or newer version) then LR will tell PS to use ACR behind the scenes to render the file on the way into PS w/o having to go to an intermediate file and w/o seeing the ACR interface.  LR does not render anything, ACR does, but you don't see it, except maybe a progress bar if it takes too long.
The adjustments in LR are the same as ACR so there's no need to show the ACR interface, right?  When LR and PS are being used together, LR is meant to be the keeper of the adjustments in its database that ACR knows nothing about.  If the ACR UI was visible and you tweaked something in ACR after coming out of LR it wouldn't get stored back into the LR database unless you synchronized the folder, later, and things would be a confusing mess.
Alternatively, if the LR and ACR version's aren't synced up, then LR may indeed render a TIF or PSD for PS to open, but again w/o ACR doing anything.  So in no circumstance of LR-PS integration should you see the ACR plug-in when you tell LR to open into PS.

  • Bridge and Camera RAW preferences not working

    I'm setting up a new Macbook Pro, late 2013 15", 10.9.2
CS6 Production Premium, Also have Indesign CS6, LR5, Acrobat Pro 11. Camera RAW is version 8.4. Everything is up to date.
Bridge and Camera RAW preferences are not working correctly. Bridge prefs related to Bridge display, e.g. color theme, text beneath thumbnails, favorite locations, etc.. all work fine. Bridge prefs open and close fine with no errors. "Double Click Edits Camera RAW Settings in Bridge" does not take. Photoshop launches to open Camera RAW regardless of whether this is checked or not. Camera RAW preferences will not open. Selecting "Camera RAW Preferences" from Bridge does nothing. Camera RAW seems to work fine hosted by Photoshop.
I tried a new user with the same results.
What's up with this? Anyone else seeing this? Solution?

fixed it with this work around

  • No longer able to view NEF files in Bridge or edit in Camera Raw 4.6

I have found similar questions in various Adobe forums, but I have not located a solution to my problem.
    Bridge CS3
    Photoshop CS3 Extended
    XP
    Camera Raw version 4.6.0.30
    Nikon D300s
Up until 2 weeks ago I have been copying my NEF files from my CF card via reader, opening Bridge, selecting thumbnail of NEF and opening it in Photoshop CS3. At which point I can process with Camera Raw 4.6.
Now, once new NEF files copied and Bridge opened, I only see NEF icons. When I double click the file, Photoshop opens and a box appears with the following text: Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.
Upon inspecting the differences between NEF files that I can edit and the new NEF files that I cannot, I notice in the metadata file properties that the application of the successful files is ver. 2.00 and the duds is ver. 1.00.
What "application" is the metadata referring to? I think this may be a Nikon setting, but it would help me understand the problem better if I knew what "application" this is.
I can convert the new NEF files into jpgs using Adobe DNG Converter, but this GREATLY complicates a previously straightforward work flow process.
Thank you for any light that may be shed on vexing dilemma,
    Kate

Very grateful for your response and time.
The Application I am talking about can be found when you open up a NEF file in Bridge and look at the Metadata tab on the right. Within that is the File Properties tab and the Application Ver. is the 3rd item from the top (after Filename and Document Type).
Yes, I do have only the one ACR file (Camera Raw.8bi.) in the program file/COMMON FILE/Adobe/plug ins/cs3/file formats.
I have also realized (brilliantly late in the game) that it is only the NEF files shot from my new D300s that do not work. No problem with the NEF files shot with my D100. So this leads me to conclude that my Bridge/Photoshop CS3 does not support the Camera Raw 5 that seems to be required for the D300s. Argh.
By upgrading my camera equipment, I have outmoded my requisite software.
I must say, that the recent post advisory on the forum site ("Raw files appear as icons") was supremely timely. While this does not solve my problem, it did help me understand the compatibility issues with the D300s and CS3. I have learned the following: D300s are supported by Camera Raw 5.5 which does not work with CS3. Is this correct?
    Dazed, but not beaten down,

  • "Camera Raw Preferences..." / "Open in Camera Raw" broken (using Bridge 2.1.1.9)

I'm having some trouble getting Bridge to see my Camera Raw plugin -- oddly enough, I can double-click on a raw file and it'll open in
ACR via Photoshop, but it won't load in
ACR on its own. On top of that, Bridge isn't showing me the thumbnails for any of my raw images (though it will show thumbnails for JPEGs) and both the "Camera Raw Preferences" and "Open in Camera Raw" menu items are grayed out:
For what it's worth, I'm running Adobe Bridge 2.1.1.9 and Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 on a MacBookPro running Leopard 10.5.2. Here's what I've tried so far:
I've read over the entire "
++ Debugging ACR Installation Problems ++" thread and I've done my best to precisely follow the directions there...
As mentioned in that thread, I've installed "Camera Raw.plugin" to Macintosh HD:Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats/ (and I've also searched my hard drive to confirm that this instance of "Camera Raw.plugin" is the only one on the drive) :
(If you click on the screenshot, you'll see a larger version.)
I've also checked Photoshop's About Plug-in menu and I've confirmed that "Camera Raw" appears exactly once:
After clicking on "Camera Raw" from the plug-in menu, I can confirm that it's version 4.4.1:
I've also run "Tools->Cache->Purge Cache" for various folders that have raw images and, along with that, I've tried manually deleting the Users/[Username]/Library/Caches/Adobe/Bridge folder.
Just for good measure, I've also tried starting up Bridge while holding down the Option key and then choosing the option to delete all the prefs from the dialog box that comes up.
Any ideas on where I've gone wrong?

I started experiencing this same problem three days ago when I installed ACR 4.5. I have been through the forums, trying anything and everything that has worked for other users. Finally, I hit on one crazy possibility.....and it worked.
ACR was working fine in Photoshop, but suddenly in Bridge it would not display thumbnails for my CR2 images or allow me to open them in Camera Raw.
So what fixed it for me? Remember, I had tried everything mentioned in all the posts and none of it fixed it. But one user pointed out that they only had "Camera Raw" show once in Photoshop's "About Plug-In" menu. I had noticed I had it appearing four times, once for 4.5 and once for each of the three previous versions! Working on a hunch, I went to the folder where CameraRaw.8bi exists and found that I had a "save" folder there as well. The save folder contained the three prior versions. I moved the save folder outside of this location -- AND ACR WORKS AGAIN IN BRIDGE!!!
So now I'm left to wonder only one thing -- did this work okay until I added 4.5, or did I somehow create the save folder (and add previous versions of ACR) in my sleep when I installed 4.5? In the end, I'm just happy that it works again.
I hope this helps a few others of you out there!

  • My issue started as ACR grayed out in Bridge using PS CC. No option in preference to open in Camera Raw.

My issue started as ACR grayed out in Bridge using PS CC. No option in preferences to open in Camera Raw. After browsing this forum I downloaded the most recent ACR and installed. Now Bridge stalls on the "building crieria" screen. There is a message to purge the cache but that screen stalls as well. I have force quite multiple times and re-started. Any suggestions?

As far as i know, photoshop cs2 and adobe bridge 1 (cs2) could not open jpegs or tiffs into camera raw, only camera raw files.
I believe photoshop cs3 was the first version to allow jpegs to be opened in camera raw.
Are you sure you had photoshop cs2 before?
If on the other hand, you can't open camera raw files that you used to be able to open, then you probably just need to update the camera raw plugin to version 3.7
    windows
Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows : Camera Raw 3.7 update
    mac
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 3.7 update

  • Can't select 'open in camera raw...' in Bridge

I have CS3 and I just recently updated my camera raw plug-in to 4.2.  Updates have allowed me to see my CR2 files (instead of an icon) ; which was a problem before.  But now I can't select the 'open in camera raw...' function in Bridge.  The function is still listed in my 'file' menu, however it's grayed out and cannot be selected.  I'm hoping this has something to do with a setting, or at least an easy fix.  Any help or guidance on this would be extremely helpful!  Thanks!

Camera Raw 4.2? The current version is 4.6.
If you can't access the Camera Raw command from Bridge with raw files, the odds are you didn't install it correctly...since you don't bother to state your OS, we can't really help you with WHERE to place Camera Raw (and only ONE version of Camera Raw) but you should go back and double check it's in the correct place for your OS.

In Adobe Bridge, when I try to open my camera raws, I get a pop up stating"Bridges parent application is not active.  Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launced at least once to enable this feature."  What the heck?  I have a PC and haven't had problems before.. Have you opened Photoshop or any other Adobe app that Bridge works with?  You need to do this if you've upgraded PS or just signed up for CC.
