Bridge CS3 Stopped showing NEF thumbnails

I use a Nikon, formerly a D70, now a D90. I always shoot in raw and JPEG. I have had Bridge CS3 on my iMac for about a year and a half with no problem. About a week ago it stopped displaying NEF thumbnails. I just see the NEF icon. I can open the NEF images, and JPEG images show as thumbnails. To my knowledge I have not changed anything, although my son sometimes changes some settings. I have my computer set to automatically download updates. Reviewing the threads in this forum I see some similar problems, but not this one. Anybody have an idea?

I have ACR 4.6.030. I do not see a 4.7 on the ACR updates. The next appears to be 5.1, which is for CS4, no CS3. I appreciate your input. If you have any other ideas I would be interested. I still have not been able to get it to work. Very odd, since I had always been able to see NEF thumbnails, taken both by the D70 and D90.

  • Bridge CS3 not showing images

Today Bridge CS3 partially stopped working.  Images do not show up in the content window but this is inconsistent.  It happens with only selected folders.  The data under filters does show the folder data.  If I try to open (clicking on) a non-existent image in the content window, PS or Camera RAW will open for that image.  I have one internal HD and 3 external LaCie drives.  Copy an affected folder to a different HD or to the desktop sometimes works but only intermittantly.  All the permits, etc. for the folders are the same, read/write permission granted and everything else the same.  Sometimes folders that previously opened do not open at a later time.
I've tried restarting the computer and Bridge, no difference.  Two events occurred prior to the problem.  I installed Apple's latest security update and the new Adobe Reader update.  Other than that nothing particular occurred.  I am also using Lightroom2 which is working OK.  The image are in the folders OK, open in PS, etc.  They just don't show up in Bridge.
My computer skills are medium, been user since Photoshop 6.0, taken a number of PS workshops at SFW and Maine, and am competent at using the program.  This is over my head. Help.

    Thanks Ramon,
It works but with a few other problems I pretty well sorted through.  It took a couple of Bridge quit and restarts to get Bridge to open the external drives. Now that's OK.  Then it seems at times to hang up trying to generate thumbnails, have to force quit Bridge and try over.  Since Bridge worked fairly well for several years, I'm wondering what happened.  Maybe just one of life's mysteries.
I have CS4 on the shelf, installed it and couldn't get the drivers for my Epson 2200 installed.  The CS4 included generic driver is junk, Epson quit supporting the 2200, so I re-installed CS3 for the time being.

  • Bridge CS3 won't display thumbnails and locks up

Running a Mac G5 Dual 2gHz processors with OS 10.4.11 and 4GB ram...
I started today working with images on an internal drive and all was well until I selected an older external drive. Bridge vers. 2.0.0.975 would not display thumbnails on the older drives and stopped functioning altogether when selecting a different folder or any menu item.
Reinstalled Photoshop and Bridge and folders/thumbs from internal drive still displayed just fine, but still would not display on external drives. Ever since I tried holding down the option key when restarting Bridge, the the problem has spread to the internal drive and now those images will not display.
And yes, I did try upgrading to Bridge 2.1.1.9, but that update never worked at all for me.
I gotta vent here. Bridge CS3 has been a consistent headache from the first day of purchase. Since Bridge CS3 has never worked properly, how can I justify the purchase of Photoshop CS4 upgrade?

    Hey Jim
Good it worked, seem to remember that there have been problems with some users and the auto update feature from Adobe?
Whenever I used Bridge CS3 for a week or 6 to 8 (I also work with it a lot and and also large amount of files) trouble was coming up and I just delete the plist and cache file and restarted with option to refresh prefs. I don't use the cache for archive purpose and usual work with one main folder. After finished I move the files to specific folders without caching those so after deleting cache I only need to recache a few folders and was able to work flawlessly for a certain period.
I must say that Bridge CS4 is more stable and is working also very nice and again better compared to the prior version.
For system maintenance I use Disk Warrior every now and then but Cocktail on a daily basis, scheduled automatically after an also time scheduled auto start up of system and some apps. Cocktail is cheap and easy, :-)

  • Adobe Bridge CS3 - does not display thumbnails for Canon 40D or 50D RAW files

I wanted to use Bridge to view my Canon EOS 50D RAW files and it does not display the thumbnails, just icons. I checked my 40D cr2 files and saw same thing.
I have purged the cache and rest the cache preferences and it has not helped. I would like to be abl eto view the thumbnails of the RAW files via Bridge if possible. Jpg files and Tif files can be viewed without any issues.
Am using Bridge version 2.1.1.9 and Pshop CS3 10.0.1

I have the exact same problem. I can view my RAW file thumbnails (which are .ARW files from my Sony A200 camera) in the Finder and in other applications, such as Preview, but not in Adobe Bridge CS3. I know that I did try purging the cache at one point to see if that would fix it, but then I didn't know what to do after that. Before I purged the cache, I was able to view RAW thumbnails in Bridge, but then they would not increase in size when I tried using the slider (at the bottom right of the Bridge window)

  • Bridge CS3 not displaying .PNG thumbnails

This behavior started about 2 months ago and I cannot figure what changed or what to do to get rid of the generic .PNG icons and get back to the image thumbnails. It's not isolated to Photoshop generated .PNG's. Any app I have that can save in the .PNG format will appear as a generic icon in Bridge CS3.
.PNG's that were uploaded to our server prior to around mid-Feruary all have the proper thumbnails. Currently, replacing them or uploading the same file from before February produces the generic icon. Same thing in both in the main view and the Preview window.
The only thing that has changed on my machine between now and February was an OS bump from  10.6.1 to 10.6.3.
Every other format displays correct thumbnails. I've tried just about every suggestion dealing with missing thumbnails from the various "no thumbnail" posts in this forum...and still no luck. Does anyone have a suggestion or two...or three, that might help me clear this .PNG problem up? It's driving me bats trying to identify images.

I've tried just about every suggestion dealing with missing thumbnails from
the various "no thumbnail" posts in this forum...and still no luck.
Could you specify on that, meaning also purge cache for selection. Using
tool menu-cache, use the filter menu to select only PNG files for faster
    approach.
And you may not like this but using a more then 3 year old app on a new
(intel based and 64 bit OS system) might also not be the best route. CS5 is
just out now and rebuild for 64 bit systems like Snow Leopard is.
Also keep in mind CS6 will be your last option to upgrade according to the
Adobe upgrade policy, after this you will need a new full license.

  • Bridge CS3 Not Showing JPG/PSD Files

Running version 2.1.1.9 on a Mac G5 Dual 2.5 w/4.5 GB of Ram under OS 10.5.2.
BRidge for some reason today first stopped showing entire folders of JPGs files. Refreshing folders and restarting Bridge did not fix the problem. Rebooted the machine and now entire folders of PSD files are not being seen either.
How do I trash the prefs for Bridge and any other ideas on fixing this?
    Thanks,
    mark

Trashing prefs did not help. Did a complete reinstall and seems to be working again.

  • How do I get Photoshop CS3 and Bridge CS3 to show and open camerea RAW files?

I am not able to see or open Raw files from my Canon 40D in either Photoshop CS3 or Bridge CS3. At first I was able to open RAWS in Photoshop and then I followed directions on the internet at how to manually replace a Camera Raw Plugin so I could open it in Bridge and now neither of the apps work with RAW. In photoshop It says that the file is not supported.
I looked up what plug in I needed and it said 4.2 for a Canon 40 D. I also followed the instructions in the read me file that was with the plugin download. No results from it. I even tried to switch it back to the old plug in to see if I could atleast get back the capiblility of opening it in Photoshop even though bridge was not working...still can't open it in either. What am I missing?

You should install Camera Raw 4.6.
Visit this page and follow the instructions carefully:

  • Bridge CC stopped showing thumbnails, does not expand at triangles

    Hello community
-- three days ago Bridge doesn't let me open all triangles at folder's tab anymore, sometimes more, sometimes less
-- plus when being at a folder that cannot expand anymore and Bridge should display the thumbnails of files, it doesn't build up the view
-- sometimes after quitting/relaunching Bridge I got dialog box about some loadup scripts probs and that I should try to purge the central cache at Prefs (I've done so twice, problem persists)
(no changes on my Mac OS System 10.9.5 or any CC product;, CC and CC 2014 products always updated to latest versions)
-- workaround now is to look for the files in finder, which is tedious as I cannot automate, label, etc and more annoying and therefore I would ask for immediate help: how can I open RAW files in PS without being able to select a bunch in Bridge?
    bye,
    beatrice

You can open them through Photoshop > File >Open, or by double-clicking on the file icon in the Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer.
But that's really what Bridge is for.  Originally, Bridge was called simply Photoshop File Browser.

  • Bridge sometimes won't show jpg thumbnails

Sometimes when saving a photo from ACR as a JPG, Bridge won't show the thumbnail.  It seems a random thing for some show and others don't.  If I click on the thumbnail it will open in PSCC.  Then save as a TIFF and it shows.  If I change it back to a JPG, then it shows up.  Anyone have any idea why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    Sue

It is a cache problem. If it happens again choose the thumb icon and with right mouse click menu choose 'purge cache for selection' then it will build a new thumb and it shows correctly.
If it happens in one folder choose the folder and in menu tool / cache choose 'purge cache for folder'.
If happening on multiple folders even a purge of central cache is needed either in preferences or on start up holding down option(Mac)  or control (Win) key and choose this option from the menu that shows.

  • Bridge CS3: Vorschaubilder werden bei einigen Ordnern nicht angezeigt

    Bridge CS3 / Windows 7
    Hi,
I have a problem with my Bridge CS3.
In some of my folders Bridge does not show any thumbnails/preview my fotos (jpgs). I can only see the windows PS-icons and the files names.
If I double click on the icons, the images open in photoshop as usual. They are normal jpgs.
The images in other folders have thumbnails/previews. I do not understand, why some of my folders show the previews and others don't.
The folders are filed at the same memory location.
Does anybody have a solution? Thank you in advance for your help
    Regards
    Isi
    Hallo,
Sind also ganz normale JPGs.

    For Bridge CS3 and later:
       1. Delete the entire directory from the Cache folder located in the Users/ /Library/Caches/Adobe/Bridge CS[#] folder.
       2. Delete the "!!Last.workspace" file located in the Users/ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge CS[#] /Workspaces folder.
       3. Delete the com.adobe.bridge[#].plist file located in the Users/ /Library/Preferences folder.

  • Bridge CS3 ver 2.1.0.100 most  buggy bridge ever

With previous versions of bridge for CS3 I had occasional problems. The most vexing was that some Canon xti Camera raw files (CR2) and dng files could not have their file info changed via bridge. When I would right click on these files, the file menu that came up would lack the choice for modifying file information. It was impossible for these few files to use bridge CS3 to get to fields such as document title, author, author title, description, etc.
If I opened the same exact files in the bridge for CS2, it was possible to modify file info for every one of them. The problem files when later opened in bridge CS3 would show the file info put into them with the CS2 bridge--the one that worked. It was still impossible however in bridge CS3 to modify the file info for these occasional files.
I made the great mistake of upgrading to bridge CS3 2.1.0.100. Today I took more than 240 photos. It is not possible to modify the file info for any of them with lousy bridge 2.2.0.100.
The new version also crashes much more often, simply disappearing without any error messages.
In addition, at least some photos whose file info could be accessed via the older version of bridge CS3, no longer allow such access under the newest bridge version.
The new bridge version is a massive step backward.
Open challenge to Adobe--I will be happy to send you 200 plus problem files that only work properly with older versions of bridge. You could use them to fix bridge.

I have found CS3 less buggy that I expected.
I have found "Bridge CS3" outstanding, but no doubt, some will experience problems.
    Experience is great teacher
But I do keep CS2 on my machine for those times I cannot wait for whatever fix might be necessary.
    Do not worry.
The problems many are having, whatever that may be, and it is somewhat varied, will most likely be worked out in CS4.
I contribute many of these problems to be lack of control over the hardware that the software must function on. Windows vs. Mac ideologies rear their heads here. I use Windows and that is definitely my problem.
    Get used to it.
CS4 whatever = CS3 whatever with most problems fixed.
CS3 = CS2 with most CS2 problems worked out with some tool palette changes users have been asking for years, along with "some" real graphic ability improvement, along with some abilities that probably > 80% of us will never use. Better camera support in Camera RAW.
Most all of this depends on how much money you have to devote to Photoshop, its upgrades , and the cost of the demands for appropriate hardware.
    Note:
I was just using the "spelling checker". On this forum "Photoshop" is an unrecognized word. It wants to spell it:
    "Photo shop"
    or
    "Photos hop"
    Go figure.
Just my 2 bit opinion which wouldn't buy you a cup of coffee or anything else.

  • CS3 Bridge Shows only NEF Thumbnails from D300S Images

I have CS3 and have been trying to get larger than thumbnail images in Bridge from my Nikon NEF raw files from my new D300S.  Is there a raw update and how do I install it?  Sorry to be so dumb.  Thanks for your help.  Jerome

Purge the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu in Bridge.

  • NEF Thumbnails not displaying in Bridge CS3

I decided to dip my toe into RAW images. However unlike jpegs and tiffs the NEF thumbnails are not rendering in Bridge CS3. However when I double-click on an unrendered thumbnail it does open normally. As seeing thumbnails would be very helpful I decided to do a software update to see if this would cure the problem. During the install process I got the following message - Installation Incomplete - The Updater is unable to locate the product to be updated - Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 Update failed to install.
Outcome - NEF thumbnails still not rendering.  By the way my NEF images were produced on a Nikon D60.
Help would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation. Victor Patterson, Ireland

  • Bridge CS3 shows no thumbnails??

Adobe Bridge CS3 has been working fine for quite a while. I have been having
some problems with my System (C) drive, where it and Photoshop CS3 are
    installed.
I swapped out the C drive, and restored an image of the drive, and most
items are working OK. But I'm guessing that Bridge may have suffered some
"corruption", prior to when the image was made.
When I open Bridge CS3, it opens normally. with the files listed on the
lower left, but there are no thumbnails visilbe for any images. Momentarily,
I did see some for one folder, but now they are all not showing anyting at
all in the thumbnail or individual window on screen.
Just for kicks, I double clicked in the middle of where the thumbnails
should be, and an image then opened in Photoshop. So they appear to be
    invisible, but present.
Any suggestions here? Is repair install needed, or is there a setting
somewhere that has gotten messed up, that can be simply fixed??
    Ron Hisch

Hi John,<br /><br />I just took a look at my settings now in Bridge CS3. That box is not <br />currently checked, and the Bridge Cache files are no longer in the <br />associated folders. Apparently this was not the case prior to my problems.<br /><br />I don't remember ever making a choice here.<br /><br />The centralized cache obviously makes it easier to purge when problems come <br />up. Are there any negative aspects of using the centralized cache?<br /><br />What I cannot understand is how essentially all the cache information in a <br />hundred folders in my image tree on my D drive suddenly all became corrupted <br />at the same time. There must have been something else on the C drive that <br />caused this.<br /><br />In recent days, I was in the process of replacing my C drive due to strange <br />happenings, and restoring an image of that drive to the new drive. I would <br />have to beleive that on C drive in a Brdige folder somewhere, there was a <br />"master" controlling file or ?? that worked with the cache, and it got <br />messed up.<br /><br />Ron<br /><br /><br /><br />"John Joslin" <[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]..<br />If the option to "Automatically Export Caches To Folders When Possible" is <br />checked in Bridge Preferences (as Ron apparently did) I can't imagine that <br />the purge can be done system wide with one click.<br /><br />I have always used a centralised cache, for this and other reasons.
