Bridge CS3 won't display thumbnails and locks up
Running a Mac G5 Dual 2gHz processors with OS 10.4.11 and 4GB ram...
I started today working with images on an internal drive and all was well until I selected an older external drive. Bridge vers. 2.0.0.975 would not display thumbnails on the older drives and stopped functioning altogether when selecting a different folder or any menu item.
Reinstalled Photoshop and Bridge and folders/thumbs from internal drive still displayed just fine, but still would not display on external drives. Ever since I tried holding down the option key when restarting Bridge, the the problem has spread to the internal drive and now those images will not display.
And yes, I did try upgrading to Bridge 2.1.1.9, but that update never worked at all for me.
I gotta vent here. Bridge CS3 has been a consistent headache from the first day of purchase. Since Bridge CS3 has never worked properly, how can I justify the purchase of Photoshop CS4 upgrade?

Good it worked, seem to remember that there have been problems with some users and the auto update feature from Adobe?
Whenever I used Bridge CS3 for a week or 6 to 8 (I also work with it a lot and and also large amount of files) trouble was coming up and I just delete the plist and cache file and restarted with option to refresh prefs. I don't use the cache for archive purpose and usual work with one main folder. After finished I move the files to specific folders without caching those so after deleting cache I only need to recache a few folders and was able to work flawlessly for a certain period.
I must say that Bridge CS4 is more stable and is working also very nice and again better compared to the prior version.
For system maintenance I use Disk Warrior every now and then but Cocktail on a daily basis, scheduled automatically after an also time scheduled auto start up of system and some apps. Cocktail is cheap and easy, :-)

Adobe Bridge CS3 - does not display thumbnails for Canon 40D or 50D RAW files
I wanted to use Bridge to view my Canon EOS 50D RAW files and it does not display the thumbnails, just icons. I checked my 40D cr2 files and saw same thing.
I have purged the cache and rest the cache preferences and it has not helped. I would like to be abl eto view the thumbnails of the RAW files via Bridge if possible. Jpg files and Tif files can be viewed without any issues.
Am using Bridge version 2.1.1.9 and Pshop CS3 10.0.1I have the exact same problem. I can view my RAW file thumbnails (which are .ARW files from my Sony A200 camera) in the Finder and in other applications, such as Preview, but not in Adobe Bridge CS3. I know that I did try purging the cache at one point to see if that would fix it, but then I didn't know what to do after that. Before I purged the cache, I was able to view RAW thumbnails in Bridge, but then they would not increase in size when I tried using the slider (at the bottom right of the Bridge window)

Bridge CS3 Stopped showing NEF thumbnails
I use a Nikon, formerly a D70, now a D90. I always shoot in raw and JPEG. I have had Bridge CS3 on my iMac for about a year and a half with no problem. About a week ago it stopped displaying NEF thumbnails. I just see the NEF icon. I can open the NEF images, and JPEG images show as thumbnails. To my knowledge I have not changed anything, although my son sometimes changes some settings. I have my computer set to automatically download updates. Reviewing the threads in this forum I see some similar problems, but not this one. Anybody have an idea?
I have ACR 4.6.030. I do not see a 4.7 on the ACR updates. The next appears to be 5.1, which is for CS4, no CS3. I appreciate your input. If you have any other ideas I would be interested. I still have not been able to get it to work. Very odd, since I had always been able to see NEF thumbnails, taken both by the D70 and D90.

Bridge CS3 Does Not Display Pentax PEF files
Hi,
I am running Vista and have Bridge CS3 installed on my Notebook. I updated Bridge to v 2.1.1.9 and have added Camera RAW 4.5. My problem is that Bridge does not display Pentax RAW files from a K20 camera (its on the supported list). DNG and JPG files show correctly. Bridge only shows a PEF Icon for each image. When you double click on the Icon, the file opens in Camera RAW 4.5 correctly and also in Photoshop CS3.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to see the PEF images in Bridge?

KeithRevisit the download page, look at the instructions, and make sure you unzipped ACR to the correct folder, and you don't have an ACR in two places.

IPhoto won't display thumbnails
I performed a clean install of OS X, and when I copied over the pictures I had backed up iPhoto wouldn't display thumbnails. Old photos have no thumbnails at all, new photos will show thumbnails if I scroll around quickly, but return to blanks if I stop. If I edit a picture, the thumbnail will show until I quit iPhoto. I've tried rebuilding the library and thumbnails.
I have have a MacBook Pro from late 2009, iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424).How did you bring back the pictures after the clean install? Did you use Migration Assistant in the restoring of your files? If so know that MA has a history of not handling iPhoto library very well. So if you did use MA see if you can do a manual copy of the backup library to the Pictures folder on your Mac. Then launch iPhoto and go from there.
If you didn't use MA then try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I've had this happen three times now. It seems if I have open office, and vmware server 2.0 running, the display dies and I'm unable to hit control alt delete (or backspace). I did happen to get some of the output when it crashed.

The system doesn't crash, just the display. Anyone have an idea on what's up? I'm running a T61p with the Nvidia graphics card.i was able to copy my inbox over to thunderbird for the time being...but i'd still prefer to use evolution.
for the curious, to move over my inbox i just:

obviously, x9exn2ug.default is likely to be different on other systems. -
Photo gallery created in Bridge doesn't display thumbnails and links work but don't display photos
The gallery works in preview and in live view in Dreamweaver, but not when posted to the website. I did one last week which worked just fine, and nothing has been updated in either CS 5.5 or the server software.
Try to recreate the thumbnails for that folder.
Use the latest version of the converter (5.4) -

How much homework have you done on this issue to narrow down the problem? Perhaps using one of the older formats? Perhaps the header is causing problems with generating a thumbnail?
Here are some excerpts from flv open source website http://osflash.org/flv. Hope they are relevant.
It is possible to place H.264 and AAC streams into the traditional FLV file, but Adobe strongly encourages everyone to embrace the new standard file format. There are functional limits with the FLV structure when streaming H.264 which couldn't be overcome without a redesign of the file format. This is one of the reasons Adobe is moving away from the traditional FLV file structure. Specifically dealing with sequence headers and enders is tricky with FLV streams. Adobe is still working out if it's possible to place On2 VP6 streams into the new file format.
Video needs to be in H.264 format only. MPEG-4 Part 2 (Xvid, DivX etc.) video is not supported, H.263 video is not supported, Sorenson Video is not supported. A lot of pod casts are still using MPEG-4 Part 2 so do not be surprised if you do not see any video.

Safari won't display thumbnail images
Hello everyone. I have encountered a small issue about thumnail images in Safari. At first I thought this is an issue of a specific website but I figured out that it's an issue with my Safari browser. So, as you can see the top screenshot is from Safari which doesn't show thumbnail images and the bottom one is from Chrome which shows thumbnails perfectly. I love to use Safari as my default web browser and I have no plan to change to another web browser. So, is there anyone who can help me address this issue? Thank you in advance!
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test will take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

IDvd won't display thumbnails of slideshow photos
Hi, I'm having trouble with my iDvd. All works fine, music, themes, and the like, but when I want to make a slideshow, with selected photos, idvd does not display the photos in the thumbnail view. All it does is try to load it. I've waited and waited for it to finish loading, but it never does!
Has anyone else experienced this? and what is the solution?
Thanks for your help in advance.The thread below points out that the problem is likely to be files/folders that are locked because they have their uchq flag set. The locking will override any permissions. This happens a lot when importing images from external sources.
From what I have read, opening a Terminal window and typing

Bridge CS3 won't open on school network
HI all, Our school runs Win XP, uses Novell, and has CS3 installed in our business labs. As an administrator on the network, I have no problem at all opening Bridge. As a student though, Adobe Bridge will not open. I've tried on systems with original installs that have run fine otherwise, I've tried on fresh installs with all patches, and I've tried all the resolutions to various other Bridge issues I've seen posted in the forum -- all to no avail. I still get the "Adobe Bridge has encountered a problem and needs to close" -- all before the app even opens!
The systems I'm running it on at HP/Compaq dc7100 (P4 2.8ghz HT, 1gb RAM) ... oh, also I've tried opening Bridge as "Run As" and logging on to the machine as an administrator, but that's not the level of permissions I can grant to high school students. Any ideas? Thanks for any recommendations!!So did you check in Task Manager and kill any instances of Bridge?
And if it's checked, uncheck Load Bridge on Startup in preferences. -
I just bought a new macbook and decided to do a clean install of all my apps. I installed cs3 premium, and bridge did not install. in fact, there's no reference to it in the installer at all.
what am i doing wrong? is bridge now a download only app?Bridge should NOT appear separately in the list. There is no option not to install it. If you reinstall Photoshop by itself by isolating it in that list, Bridge should get installed too. If your installation failed, there is something wrong with your setup.
You are dead wrong on your estimation of DiskWarrior. Just do a forum search on the main Photoshop Macintosh forum to see how many users, including the forum host, swear by DiskWarrior.
I have no connection with the folks who make DiskWarrior, and I really couldn't care less if you don't use it.
Whatever you do, DO NOT drag any of the CS3 applications to the trash! You can't do that with CS3 like we could with previous versions. You MUST use the Adobe Uninstaller on the disk or the copy that gets installed in Applications/Utilities/Adobe.
If you have already trashed a CS3 application, you need to download the CS3Clean script and run it. Hope for the best. -
Bridge CC won't display my Sony a99 .ARW files.
Hi All,
Up until recently, Bridge displayed my .ARW files no problem. However, now I only get a generic windows 8 icon. I have updated to the latest ACW as well as made sure CC and all apps are up to date. Still no dice. Some direction would be greatly appreciated. Id rather not pull unessicary files into Lightroom.

Apps pop up when I play match with friends... One certain app locks up my game. It won't let me close it out. If I click "free" to download and get it off screen it just sits there with the circle going round and around like it's working.. It's been on my screen now for 3 days every time I open the game that's what I see. Can anyone help me fix it?
Have you tried closing the App Store app via the multitasking bar and seeing if it works properly when you re-open it ? Double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the App Store app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
Bridge cs5 won't display controls for output for pdf or web
hi, selected some images to create a contact sheet, but when i clicked on "output" nothing appeared in the window, as if this module didn't launch. any suggestions for a reset? i'm at a college, so it will be a pain if i have to reistall software (IT guy has to do it). nothing in bridge's preferences refer to the output controls. any help appreciated.

In general you don't need to reinstall at first trouble. A restart holding
down option key and from the pop up menu resets all preferences to default
settings including the default workspaces.
But could you be a little more specific about your workflow, f.i. on what
output you are clicking for the module (the default workspace, the icon or
menu view-workspace-output) And does that window look as output containing
at least the content panel, preview panel and output panel with all its
settings (document-lay out-overlays-header etc).
Maybe you can provide a screenshot of what you are seeing when in output?
