Bridge CS4 attempt to Refresh Preview or Save output causes crash in Mac OS 10.8.2
Ever since installing Mountain Lion, I can no longer create contact sheets in Adobe Bridge CS4, which I was always able to do before installing ML. As soon as I press "Refresh Preview," or just try to SAVE the Output (PDF) without refreshing the preview, Bridge crashes with the report below. This is on a MacPro 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 20 MB RAM, OS 10.8.2. Ideas gratefully accepted!

To be absolutely sure, you also did the 2.1 update for the Output Module:

Not sure the link works, sometimes they are country specific but otherwise check the downloads at Adobe.com
Did you try it in a new user account just for testing. Sometimes check and repair permissions using Apple Disk Utility (or 3th party like Cocktail) will also help.
And finally I should point you to the fact that due to a new upgrade policy from Adobe you have until 31 december this year to profit from the upgrade price for PS CS6, after the 1st of january 2013 you will have to pay the full license price for CS6.

Bridge CS4 - MP4 preview playback problem
In Bridge CS4 on Windows, the preview playback of MP4 files sometimes works and sometimes it does not. If not, Bridge shows only an icon in the preview pane and there is no preview start button.
I have sets of MP4 footage that work OK, but other sets can only partly be previewed. Another strange behavior of Bridge is that in some cases after changing the file's name, the program suddenly does not show the preview anymore.
Is there anyone else having the same problems?

All MPEG files are not the same so just becasue one play does not mean they all play.
If changed files do not show up purge the cache (tools/cache/purge cache) and let it rebuild. -
Bridge CS4 image Previews are too small
In Bridge CS4 I cannot get the preview images to display anything larger than a large thumbnail view, see image below. I have tried all of the Preferences in Edit menu (e.g. Thumbnail: do not process files larger than set to 10,000 MB, cache options are keep 100% previews in cache checked/automatically export cache to folders when possible checked/cache size slider is set to 50%, software render has been checked/unchecked/generate monitor size previews checked). None of these options change anything for the size of the image preview. I have a DX10.1 ATI Radeon HD4890 XOC 1GB, so my video card is not the issue. I am running Windows 7 Ult x64 on ASUS P8P67 Deluxe with 16GB RAM and over 2 TB of HDD space. So my system should not be an issue either. These are Sample artwork images that were installed with Illustrator cs4. How do i increase the size of these images?
Also, these images are showing everything in the ai image, not the individual images in each ai file. How do i get it to show the individual images in each AI file like they were separate images, like Illustrator?Actually, you just solved both of my problems with your question. I never thought about how the images were created/saved.
It turns out that for some reason when i re-save the images as version CS4 of course and all options selected in dialog box now the images act correctly and resize accordingly when the separator is moved and will get quite large as they should.
I also had to use my mouse and select each artboard/image inside the file then re-saved with same settings as above to get multiple images to show up with the buttons at bottom of image in preview mode. Now all is good.
These are the default installed sample artwork images. Not sure why they were like this, may have been some kind of format/process error. Thanks a lot Curt Y.

No previews to eps icons in Bridge CS4 with OSX Leopard 10.5.6

Recently upgraded to an iMac and Leopard 10.5.6 and gone the
Adobe Creative suite CS4 route and find that I cannot preview eps
documents as images and just get basic icons in Bridge which is
very inconvenient.
Have Apple decided that we don't use ai eps anymore or is it a
problem with Bridge CS4!
Bridge CS3 works and previews are visible.

I see your postings all the time, so I know you are a power user in the forums; and many, including myself, have benefitted from your knowledge of the Adobe products. But to get back to point, upon your advice, I did check out the Photoshop Macintosh Forums. 227 results popped up for "EPS"; and as I didn't check out all of them, the ones I did read refer to the EPS files when used with raster files. But my inquiry was about vector files (logos for example). Since you don't seem to want to help, I will check out the Illustrator forums instead.

When i open Bridge CS4 all my raw or .CR2 files dont have a preview. Im thinking it could be because the adobe website says that my Rebel Xti minimum ACR plugin is version 3.6? Is there a Refresh Preview option in Adobe Bridge CS6 (mac)?

Just been doing a short tutorial on creating a web photo gallery with Bridge CS6..I notice in the tutorial that there are two options for preview ie: preview in browser and refresh preview.
Try as I might I cant seem to find refresh preview..I have to keep opening a new browser to see preview..
Does CS6 Bridge have this option or is it only preview in browser?
if it does have refresh preview how do i find it?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..my key key point is i would like to be able to preview a pdf photo gallery in bridge instead of having to go back & forth to a browser..
As said, not much experience with Web gallery but I do do recall the difference for CS6. The refresh Preview button indeed has been removed and it seems to have something to do with difficulties using the Opera browser and also something with Flash in Bridge before but now I'm on very thin ice so don't shoot me if I'm wrong.
So sadly enough you are bound to use the default browser for your previews instead of the output preview use before CS6
On the other hand it is also showing how other people will see in. in a real life browser -
Full Screen Preview is Soft in Bridge CS4
I'm experiencing some notable softening of images when previewing them with full screen toggled on or when viewing images as a slide show. Type of file seems irrelevant (CR2, TIFF, JPEG, etc.) nor does image size make a difference. The strange thing is that when I mouse click on an image after toggling to full screen (which brings it to 100%) the image then appears sharp. Stranger yet, when I open a jpeg previously sized to fit my monitor at 100% I must still click on it to achieve a sharp image. Images otherwise appear fine in all workspaces and no hassles with nVidia 195 drivers. I've tried all options for thumbnail previews, reset preferences, purged cache all to no avail. Is this a bug or does a solution exist? Win XP sp3.
Curt's statement about known problems with Photoshop and Bridge is the understatement of the decade. At least as it pertains to my Nvidia GeForce 9800GT running a Gateway FHD2400 and HP w2408 monitor.
Upgrading from a stable install of CS2 to CS4 was a nightmare that cost me hundreds of hours with Adobe, and alone, with no solution. Even their "clean" utilities failed to remove the software (CS2 & CS4) from my computer for a clean install of CS4. I was forced to do a total format and reinstall of everything on my system. That was a two week nightmare.
After all that a clean install of CS4 still presented the same problems with PS. The final solution was to reinstall PS7 and use it in lieu of CS4. For my digital workflow it works just fine. Photoshop CS2 and CS4 do not like co-existing on the same system with some unknown software driver from the one interfering with the other.
The problems with CS4 were two-fold. The first was an extremely slow scroll rate no matter the video display settings or PS4 settings utilized. By slow I mean the zoom (Ctrl + 0) and then scroll around the screen using a square marquee would take up to 5 minutes on a, roughly, twenty megabyte file with no layers. The same process in PS7 took approximately two seconds per image side. The same image was uploaded to Adobe with similar results. No resolution to the problem came to light after two weeks of back and forth.
The other problem is that PS CS4 constantly comes with up the "...includes graphic card acceleration..." popup window. This, even though it has been disabled and enabled in PS. Neither option prevents the popup from appearing. The problem lies somewhere with Adobe's handling of the pasteboard (that area beyond the actual image) and its interaction with the video driver.
From both of these problems as explained it would seem that Adobe has known of the problem for some time. This iteration of the software works beautifully on a non-Nvidia system and various different Nvidia drivers have been tried. Since Bridge CS4, which is used continuously throughout a fifteen hour workday, works, I suppose I should count my blessings.
The most stable Nvidia GeForce 9800GT driver I have found to be is version 181.20 with video bios version 62.92.52.00.07
I will seriously consider whether or not to purchase the next version of Creative Suite when it appears. My experience has been that Adobe's corporate policy is to charge customers via new versions with fixes for problems that existed in earlier software builds. And then to create new dilemmas!

Can I save my preferences in Bridge CS4?
I regularly back up my Photoshop CS4 preferences file (Adobe Photoshop X64 CS4 Prefs.psp). That way, if I have to trash my current prefs because Photoshop has gone haywire, I can simply copy the last good backup to the [Users...] folder, and I don't have to change absolutely everything to the way I like it.
Is there a way of saving Bridge Prefs files? I need to reset my Bridge prefs every couple of weeks, when the Tools, Photoshop... menu item disappears, and it takes a bit of time to rearrange my workspaces, and especially to set up my Favorites list. I'd really love to know a way of saving the Favorites list for reinstallation. Is there a registry key I could save?

I'd already tried saving the stuff in C:\Users\Username\roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS4 (in Windows 7, same location as Vista64) and copying it back after resetting Bridge prefs - trying the files one by one to see the effect. None of them did what I wanted: to restore my Favorites, and things like my highlight color, my customized workspaces, etc.
Last night I trawled through the Registry and found the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Preferences. It was all there - highlight color, favorites list, etc. I looked at each value, comparing with Bridge in my laptop, which still has its 'Tools, Photoshop' menu item.
I found the value 'DisabledScripts'. It read:

VersionCueSDKLoader
AutoStacks
photoshop
bridge-3
In my laptop, the 'photoshop' line wasn't there.
I backed up the Registry in my desktop and removed the 'photoshop' line from 'DisabledScripts'. When I opened Bridge, 'Tools, Photoshop' was back.
I lose it almost every time Bridge crashes, which it does every couple of weeks - and I do use the 'Tools, Photoshop' submenu items a good deal. So now I have a way of restoring it without spending 15 minutes to half an hour setting up my Prefs from scratch.
I've got 2 possible strategies:
- open the registry, where I've now saved the Bridge Preferences key as a favourite, and delete the 'photoshop' line from 'DisabledScripts', or
- export the whole key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Preferences' when Bridge is in a fully functional state, and apply it when Bridge goes wonky.
Either of them will take about 2 minutes - a great improvement!

NEVER MIND: ANSWERED: Clicking on photo in Bridge CS4 opens file not in PSE 8 but in Preview
On my Mac (OS 10.6.8) I had to re-download and reinstall Photoshop Elements 8 after my hard drive crash because I don't at all like Photoshop Elements 10. (Sorry, Adobe.) Now, when I'm browsing in Bridge CS4 (which I much prefer over Organizer; sorry, Adobe) and click on a photo to open it, it opens not in PSE 8 but in Preview. The Bridge Preferences does not address where files open, so I can't figure out how to get it to default to open in PSE 8 and not Preview. Any ideas, please?
PS: Before the crash, clicking on a photo in CS4 opened it in PSE 8, not Preview.
A nice person on Google+ answered the question with this reply:
"Open bridge, then Go to Bridge (Menu bar) Preferences.
File Type Associations, change them over to PSE8 in the right hand column."You do understand that bridge is just a browser and not an asset management program like iphoto or organizer?
You would need to get your photos out of the iphoto library unless you are using a referenced library. In any case, you don't want to be using two different programs with two different keywording methods. You cannot use bridge on the iphoto library file itself, no, even if you don't care about losing the photos it contains. -
Preview thumbnails in Bridge CS4
After several years of being able to preview thumbnails in Bridge CS4, I can no longer do so.
Reset prefernces. Hold down ctrl key, option on mac, and you should get a reset window.

Just wondering what happened to preview for SVG files in Bridge CS4? I have tried 2 computers now and both of them have Scalable Vector Graphic previews in CS2 & CS3, but not CS4.
I know Adobe gave up on supporting it in favor of Flash, but does that mean I can't preview the old SVG files I have on my computer. Half the clip art on the web is in SVG format??
-dalAdobe is most likely getting out of the software business... or maybe just admitting that they're out of it. Look at the disgraceful state of Illustrator, riddled with major design defects and bugs since its inception, and never fixed. I run Corel Draw in a VM rather than waste one more hour on this POS. I've given it many chances, and every time I do I discover more craven stupidity in its design and more incompetence in its execution.
The sad fact is that there's no money or interest in high-complexity computer applications for the general public anymore. That's why Adobe has gotten away with peddling the same defective crap year after year. Writing competing applications for even one platform, let alone two, is a mountainous task that no one is going to take on today.
I wish there were a competent vector art program for the Mac, but there isn't. I've tried every one I can find. The closest I've found is Inkscape, which runs under X11. I love to see Freehand open-sourced. -

Bridge CS4 5D Mark ii RAW preview.
I can't preview Raw thumbnails in Bridge cs4 from my 5d mark ii. I can open them but not preview them. I installed plugin 5.3 update in the right place but no cigar. A year ago I had the same problem with another computer and I adjusted a slider which corrected everything. I'm on a Mac os 10.8. Please help.
If there are no images on the hard-drive, do you mean you are you viewing old images off an external drive, then, or perhaps off the camera’s memory card in a card reader?
To simplify things, try using Finder to copy a brand-new 5D.2 image from a memory card to a newly created folder on your internal hard-drive and then look at it with Bridge and see what happens. Also try flipping to high-quality thumbnails in Bridge.
Otherwise, someone with Mac experience may have to chime in, to confirm if a Mac version of Bridge has its own version of Camera Raw separate from Photoshop, with the possibility of only the PS one has been updated, somehow. You could do a search of your entire hard-drive and see how many Camera Raw plug-ins you find and if their timestamps all match the most recent one you updated. You could also do an Adobe Plug-Ins within Photoshop and see if there is more than one instance listed. This happens if a new ACR is put into the wrong folder and PS still finds it during the initial plug-in scan.
If Adobe has a fix, then someone here likely knows what it is.
To confirm, your subject says RAW Preview, but you’re not able to see either thumbnails or the larger one-at-a-time previews, and the only thing that seems to work is when you choose Open in Camera Raw from w/in Bridge, you can see it and work with it. -
Bridge CS4 - pdf scrambled previews on pages after page 1
I have a set of pdf files from InDesign that have multiple pages. On these files, the first page displays fine, but on subsequent pages the preview is scrambled and I detect some overall display glitchiness while Bridge is showing me a scrambled preview.
I understand Adobe's hooking into OpenGL hardware acceleration, so I checked preferences in Bridge CS4 for acceleration settings. I checked the "use software rendering" option in the Advanced settings, restarted Bridge and the problem disappears.
I'm running an ATI FireGL 3400 card with the latest driver on an XP Pro machine. Not all multiple page pdfs show the problem. The files with the scrambled previews are banner layouts and several letter size page layouts display multiple page previews normally. I'd be happy to provide Adobe support with a file (under 2MB) for testing. So far Photoshop appears to be happy with OpenGL acceleration enabled - except that I get messages that I don't have enough ram to run more than two image windows accelerated with my hardware.I don't have CS4 but in CS3 I could get the same results as "use software rendering" as when I clicked on "restore down" (middle symbol in upper rt corner of windows screen) even though I enlarged the window to full screen.
In maximize window mode I had several problems with the preview without software rendering, and knew my video card was weak point. I know this is not the same issue but does not cost anything to try it. Don't know why it worked either.
