Bridge CS4 Batch Action Problem

When using CS2 I was in the habit of working first from RAW, then creating a folder-full of .psd files, that I then converted to .jpg files by choosing Tools/Photoshop/Batch so that Bridge could run my DIY psd-to-jpg action sequentially on all the file I had selected in Bridge. In Bridge CS4 I'm having real problems doing this as Bridge so far won't seem to let me tell it where to look for an action file- the Tools/Photoshop/Batch dialogue doesn't seem to give me the option of loading an action, I can't seem to find where to *copy* my .atn file so that it shows up in the list of actions in the Tools/Photoshop/Batch dialogue as it should... and so on. It seems there's quite a few niggles like this that many people seem to spend a lot of precious time dealing with when upgrading say from CS2 to CS4 ... anyhow,
any suggestions? thanks in advance, Richard E

Load the action (.atn) file in Photoshop ps4: actions palette flyout menu > Load Actions then navigate to where you have saved the action from ps2.

  • Bridge CS4 edit history problem with OS change from XP to 7

I've changed my OS from XP to 7.  After reinstalling software, Bridge CS4 no longer keeps my editing steps in the "edit history" metadata.  The only steps recorded are that I've  saved a file.  I have the edit history box marked in preferences in both Bridge and PS, and have tried changing the metadata section in Preferences to session only, concise, and detailed.  None of those choices make a difference.  Any suggestions on how to get my edit history steps back in the metadata of Bridge?  I use the edit history frequently!  Thanks in advance!

  • Bridge CS4 batch problem

    Hi,
I often work from Bridge and use the TOOLS>PHOTOSHOP>BATCH or TOOLS>PHOTOSHOP>LOAD FILES INTO PHOTOSHOP LAYERS
This works well except it has just stopped working for no apparent reason. When I try any of the commands under TOOLS>PHOTOSHOP, photoshop will launch or become active but then just sit there doing nothing.
This has thrown a HUGH spanner in my workflow and is driving me nuts.
I have tried deleting Bridge/photoshop prefs etc but nothing seems to help.
I'm guessing it has something to do with Bridge startup scripts or something.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!
    Thanks.
PS Will post this in the Photoshop forum too as it may be a PS problem.

Sorry, did not read your mail before sending the first answer...
Glad it works again. Remember that OSX is Unix based and does not like
strange caracters in folder and file names, and no slashes or dot's except
the dot before a three caracter file extension.

  • Bridge CS4 Keyword Search problems

    Hi everyone,
I upgraded to Photoshop CS4 on the big day and have been trying to do some searches in Bridge. My keywords seemed to have transferred over from CS3 to CS4 just fine. At least, my files are showing the keywords I had tagged in CS3. The problem is that when I do a Find, no items are coming up. This happens whether I do Edit > /Find or use the new Quick Search bar. Anyone know if this is a bug? Or if there is something else I need to do?
    Thanks! :)
    Jan

    Hi Bart,
    Thanks for responding. :)
Yes, I'm searching the current directory and I can see the keywords in the filter tab. I hadn't tried the spotlight-based search before. I just did that and that did work, even tho the Bridge-based search doesn't. So that's good. But searching on anything, even any elements of the filename, do not work for me using Find.
But at least the spotlight based search works, so that will do.
Thanks so much for your help, Bart. :)

  • Bridge CS4 - Batch processing

Would like to batch process a file of JPEG Photo's to TIFF format can this be done in Bridge.
    Regards Brian

Would like to batch process a file of JPEG Photo's to TIFF format can this be
    done in Bridge.
As Curt already provided, the image processor can do so, although I don't
have to go to Output for that, might be Windows related... ?
Besides that you have the option to open the selected jpeg files with right
mouse click in ACR and after selecting them all again in ACR filmstrip mode
(cmd+A) click on the 'Save Image' button bottom left in ACR window and
choose tiff and a destination folder.
And an other option would be to create an action in PS for this and in
Bridge select al the jpeg files together and choose from the menu
Tools/Photoshop/Batch and inhere select the action you have created

  • Adobe Bridge to CS4 Batch Problem

I hope this is the correct forum for this post as I don't know if its a Bridge or CS4 problem.
If I carry out various adjustments in ACR from within bridge, then select a number of the adjusted files and run the CS4 Batch from within Bridge. (I.e. Tools|PhotoShop|Batch...) I'm given the option of the action to run and each file is loaded into CS4 and the action runs file.
The problem is that not all the adjustments made are transfered into CS4 - the most obvious one being any crops.
If I open the same files in CS4 - as in File|Open, then all the adjustments are present.
Have I got something set incorrectly or is this a bug?
    Thanks
    Mark

I've been having similar loss of adjustments...and haven't got a solution.  It seems to me the following happens:
If I launch Photoshop CS4 32bit, open Bridge, and start a batch process, the adjustment from the first opened RAW file is used for ALL files being processed.
If I launch Bridge before and start a batch process, Photoshop CS4 64bit is automatically launched and each image is properly processed using each file's settings.  Acutally, I'm not 100% sure I ever have this problem with the 64bit Photoshop even when I launch it first.
At first I thought I was losing my mind...some settings are too subtle to see differences when I quickly glance through a bulk group of photos.  But lately I have processed some photos as black and white...and you know something is wrong if ALL of your batch processed photos suddenly show up black and white.

  • Why can't I do batch actions from CS4 or CS5 Bridge now when I could before?

Something has changed in my functions for doing batch actions in Bridge.  In CS5 Bridge I try to do a simple batch action of saving a DNG file as a jpg and closing the file.  When I attempt this I get a message saying 'The command "Save" is currently not available.
I try to do the same thing in CS4 Bridge.  I go to the Tools menu and look for Photoshop in the drop down menu but it's not there.  This is how I do batch action processing with my Windows version of CS4 Bridge.  I am confused about what has changed when I was able to do batch actions routinely in CS4 and CS5 Bridge on my Mac.

Batch using tools menu from Bridge to reach Photoshop should work as expected in both CS4 and CS5. If not then there is something wrong on either your system or install.
Go to Bridge CS5 preference and look for the section Start Up Scripts and see if there is still a Start Up Script for Photoshop CS5 present and with a checkmark in front for activation. If not try first to restart bridge holding down option key and choose refresh preferences. This should retrieve the original Start Up scripts again.
If your command save as is not available check the action and see what the save path for that acton is. If it is a copied action from an other system changes are that it still contains the save path for the old drive and if the script can't find it it provides a warning message.
Also check if the drive you save to has both read and write permission.

  • Batch Action through Image Processor Leaves Files Open in CS4

I am not sure if this is a change in CS4 or something that I am doing incorrectly. But when I run Bridge CS4 < Photoshop < Image Processor (running an action that I have been running since CS2) the files do not close in photoshop after running the action. In all prior versions of PSCS#, photoshop closed the file after finishing the action. The files all save properly. But having hundreds of files opened inside of photoshop causes the scratch disk to go low and slows everything down.
    What am I doing wrong?

I haven't experienced that problem. But a related annoying problem with batch actions in CS4 is that if I minimize Photoshop while a batch action is running, the program interface minimizes, but the images open and close on the desktop still. In prior versions of PS, I could minimize the program and the batch action would go on in the background, invisible to me, while I could do other tasks. But now, when I run a batch to convert over 1000 files, each one pops open on the desktop, in front of any other open app's windows. It then closes and the next one opens, etc. Which means my computer is unusableduring any batch command.
Very annoying! How could the QA and beta testers have not noticed this?

  • Initiating Photoshop CS4 batch from Bridge sometimes ignores RAW xmp settings

This happens a lot using both my work PC (XP 64) and home PC (Vista 64), but not always...and I have not been able to track down exactly how to fix this.
What happens is I try to launch a batch process for RAW photos taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark II (develop settings already set in xmp files using Adobe Camera RAW from Bridge). The actions in the batch process execute correctly, but the resulting files appear to have completely ignored my ACR develop settings. This happens if I launch the batch process in either version of Photoshop CS4 (64 or 32 bit).
My only solution is to carefully watch Photoshop as files get loaded by the batch process and abort the batch if one opens without the correct develop settings (not always easy to discern...sometimes I have to wait for the process to save the file so I can toggle back and forth between the images in Bridge). I then restart Bridge and/or Photoshop until I can start a batch process that opens the image correctly. Once a single file has opened with the correct settings, subsequent files open as expected...so the rest of the batch process will complete.
Has anyone else seen this phenomenon? This is really annoying as it never happened to me in CS or CS2.

  • Can't batch files on network from bridge cs4

Started having this problem a few weeks ago, up until then I have always been able to use Bridges Batch command to process images on our file server. Our file server runs Samba, and no user authentication is needed.
If I use Bridge, and try to batch images that are on the server [Tools > Photoshop > Batch] then Photoshop gives me this error:
"FatalError: General Photoshop error occurred. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop. - <no additional information available>"
But, if I run a batch from Photoshop [File > Automate > Batch] then I can process images on the server fine.
I can use Bridge to batch to Photoshop if those images are on my desktop/local disk.
So the error happens when Bridge tries to tell Photoshop which images to batch, if those files are on the file server. I've tried different files that have been created at different times (years) and from different machines but still the same error.
Not sure what has caused it, maybe an Apple update or something. We've  had that issue in the past when Snow Leopard couldn't write to Samba  drives because of the UNIX file name thing, but Apple did get around to  patching that. Maybe it's Adobe's way of trying to get us to upgrade to CS5..
    System Specs:
    iMac
    OSX 10.6.4
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz,
    4GB DDR3 RAM
    320GB HD
    Adobe Design Premium CS4
    Bridge: 3.0.0.464
    Photoshop: 11.0.2

If I use Bridge, and try to batch images that are on the server [Tools >
Photoshop > Batch] then Photoshop gives me this error:
"FatalError: General Photoshop error occurred. This functionality may not be
available in this version of Photoshop. - <no additional information
    available>"
Without knowing anything about working on a network this problem usually is
solved after having refreshed the preferences for Bridge. Have you already
    tried that?
Restart Bridge holding down alt key and from the menu choose reset
preferences. This brings them back to default settings so any custom
settings should be reset again to your own wishes.
The 10.6.4. update gave me a lot of problems with CS5 that temporarily have
been solved by disable OpenGL for CS5. This update might have caused also
this problem for you but that is not a certainty...

  • Running Batch Actions in Bridge causes PS's Preferences window to open repeatedly

I just upgraded to CC at work, and ever since I've had a problem when I batch run Photoshop Actions from Bridge.
I have some simple Actions set up in PS to do some conversions for large batches of images (convert to RGB, resize, change DPI, etc.). But when I run them from Bridge like I always have, it causes Photoshop to open the Preferences window to the "Units & Rulers" tab. And that, unfortunately, pauses the batch conversion until I close the Preferences window. This happens at least once per file, but usually twice. Pretty annoying.
I never had this problem when I was using CS6, but just in case there was some sort of incompatibility with my old Actions, I remade one of them in CC, but the Preferences window still pops up.
This only happens when I run Batch Actions from Bridge. When I run the Action on a single file from PS, it works fine.
Any ideas? Maybe I've found a new bug?
    Thanks!

BTW, I was able to get around this problem by opening all the files I wanted to run the Action on using Bridge, then manually triggering the Batch dialog via Photoshop and using the 'Source: Opened Files' option:
Using this system, I didn't get any errors. Luckily, I also didn't have a huge number of files. If I did, I'd probably have to copy them all into a temp folder using Bridge, then run using 'Source: Folder'. Definitely a pain when they are all right there in Bridge ready to be batched.

  • CS4- batch problems

    Hello,
I was wondering how to get around the CS4 not including the batch action of creating contact sheets for printing multiple pictures at once. I can't upload it to my computer, I'm working on a computer I am not the admin of.
I remember reading something about being able to use Bridge to create the contact sheets but can't remember when or where that was.
Can any one give me instructions to create the sheets in Bridge?
    Thank You,
    M.J.B

It sounds like—for whatever reason—the application thinks your files are still on your CD.
Check the read/write pemissions on each file.  Try moving them to a new folder and then purging the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu in Bridge.

  • Elements 8.0 and Adobe Bridge CS4 problem

I have two problems that appeared in Elemens 8.0 and Adobe Brigde CS4 recently.  I'm using the Mac version and a Macbook Pro (4 months old).
I don't really know where to address the problem, but I hope someone in this forum would be able to advice me.
    Problem 1
When I browse a RAW-file in Bridge and click the photo to view a 100% zoom and then go back to a normal view, after a few seconds the photo turns alot darker.  I've got alot of macro photos of flower and they really loose structure in this process and I would say they get damaged.
On the attached file the left photo is the photo I've viewed and closed and the right one is the original file.  Does anyone have an explanation to this problem?  I do like to review my files and do a 100% zoom before I choose the best one, but this is not possible in Bridge due to this problem.
    Problem 2
After postprocessing my photos in Elements some of them cannot be viewed through Brigde anymore, they get sort of unclear and some show pixels.  If I use Finder or other programmes to view the files they look perfectly allright. See examples below, the left one is a screendump from Bridge and the second one is the processed file.

I think this solved the problem, at least some of it.
I deleted the bridge plist file and also ran an update of Bridge CS4.  I wasn't sure how to update ACR in bridge, so I didn't do that.
But when I start Bridge now, only some of the files changes color slightly in the thumbnails view.  The zoom (loading 100%) also looks different, it zoomed to 800% earlier even though it said 100%, it sort of never ended.
Thank you Barbara, I'm ever so grateful.  Now I know where to go if I have more problems

  • Problem with JPGs Downlaoded with Nikon Transfer - Can't Apply Develop Settings in Bridge CS4 and ACR 5.3 Settings Don't Stick

I have found what I believe is a "problem" with JPGs downloaded using Nikon Transfer (ver 1.4.1) and processing same in Adobe Bridge CS4 (Develop Settings) and/or Adobe Camera Raw 5.3 (Photoshop CS4 and Elements 6 as hosts).
Anyone using these programs in their workflow?
The problem, quite simply, is that neither ACR settings (nor Bridge CS4 Develop Settings) "stick" when applied to JPGs that have been downloaded via Nikon Transfer ver 1.4.1.
The same images from the same cameras (D300 and D90), downloaded moments later using Nikon's predecessor software PictureProject work just fine in both Bridge and ACR.  Develop Settings appled in Bridge immediately are seen, and JPGs opened in ACR, and settings applied, then "Done" immediately stick and are reflected in Bridge.
If someone else is processing their JPGs in this manner, please let me know, as I have reported the problem to both Nikon and Adobe, and although I have tested it on two different cameras and two differnt laptops, I would like to get an impartial result as well.
One other test, the problem does not seem to affect Nikon's RAW (NEF) format files downloaded from a D2x using Nikon Transfer.  More/different test are forthcoming.
    Thanks

Can't say one way or another on that statement about using manufacturers' software.  Since Adobe has to interpret each camera models' RAW format having the latest ACR seems to be the best option.  But if the manufacturers' software is more convenient, and you get the same results then use it.  But it does appear you are not getting what you want, so suggest you try a duplicate test run with images straight from the card reader to Bridge and see if you still have same problems.
I do know it is widely recommended that using a quality card reader gives you more reliable data than getting the pictures straight from the camera.  Does not seem intuitive, but that has been experience of many.

  • Bridge CS4 causing problem with Explorer

The following problem occurred after adjusting the Preference settings in Bridge CS4:
When right clicking on any folder in either the Explorer or on the Desktop the following message is displayed "Windows Explorer has stopped working..."
This is now the second time, after having created two new User Accounts. While Explorer worked perfectly for a couple of days before adjusing the settings in Birdge, I cannot undo what has caused this problem and am reluctant to setup yet another user account. Also, I can't figure out which setting change might have caused this.
Is it possible that by adjusting the settings in Bridge it added a shell extension to Windows Explorer?
Has anyone here encountered a similar problem after adjusting the settings in Bridge?
    Cheers,
