Bridge CS4 cannot view or edit G10 CR2 files

Hi,
I have searched for this and come up with a few pointers but so far none has worked for me.
Running PS CS4 11.0.1
Got latest CR 5.5 and it is in the correct place.
Have run CameraProfiles exe file.
Have deleted and rebuilt icon cache for folder(s) in question.
Do not have this issue with NK2 files from my D70s
My issue:
When in Bridge I cannot see any image icons for Canon G10 .CR2 file. It is a generic icon. When I right-click on the file I am not offered "edit in CameraRaw".
HOWEVER - When in Lightroom 2.5, I CAN see the actual image files, and if I choose edit in PS, it opens CameraRaw in PS.
What gives? My wife _hates_ lightroom and she just wants to broswe the files in Bridge and then edit them in CR, but can't. It's "my fault" for shooting RAW images rather than JPEGs ;-)
Please help!
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Hmm. I can't find an about CR button or link, but when I open the Camera Raw prefs from the top menu in the plug-in, I can see 5.5.097 in the top bar of the prefs window. I placed the 5.5 8bi file in the file formats sub-folder of the plug-in folder of PS yesterday. I did not have it installed in there at all previously, so no need to remove the old one or overwrite; I just placed it in there.
Also, I'm going mad, the Nikon files are .NEF not NK2 sorry

After installation of latest Bridge and Photoshop version (2014.2.2) *.CR2 files will not be displayed correctly anymore, neither in preview nor in Camera Raw dialogue.
Some pictures have white squares with blue and red diagonal stripes that cover almost the complete picture.
When opening those files I have the same problem in Camera Raw dailogue and even in Photoshop eventually.
I tried to open the same same pictures on another computer with the same version of Bridge and Photoshop but the problem remains the same.
It seems like the files itselves are still ok, because if you open an explorer window the previews of the pictures are all ok. And the pictures' sizes remain the same.
I tried to clear the cache in both programs but it didn't help.
    Has anyone an idea????

First see if a reboot of your PC helps.  If not,
    Resets may be in order:
Photoshop: Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop.  If you get the keys down quickly enough - and you have to be VERY quick - it will prompt you to confirm deletion of your established preferences, which will lead to them all being set to defaults.
Bridge:  Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears. Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK.
Outdated graphics drivers can also cause display problems. Go to your GPU maker's website and be sure you have the latest drivers for your card model.

  • Bridge in trial CS4 doesn't read my Canon G10 .CR2 files

One of my motivations for upgrading to CS4 is to use my canon G10 files through bridge.
I've transferred the files from the camera to my computer. I've also run them through the latest DNG converter to use with CS3 - that worked fine.
Now bridge in the CS4 trial lists the .CR2 files, but with no metadata or thumbnail. If I double click on the file, CS4 says "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." The .DNG versions load without any problem.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Arthur

    Thanks Don.
I had just come to that conclusion and tried to edit my post but it didn't seem to work.
My question now is, if I update to CR5.2, will that mess up CS3 (in case, for example, I don't end up keeping CS4)?

  • Canon 6D, Bridge CS5, Camera raw 6.7.1 -- cr2 files not shown

I use Bridge CS5 with camera raw 6.7.1 in combibnation with a canon 6D and a canon 5D Mark2. The raw files from the 5D are shown in bridge, the raw files from the 6D are not. There is just an icon. The camera raw add-on is the latest usable update for Windows, the canon 6d is listed as compatible. Has anyone an idea what to do?

The Canon 6D id NOT supported by ACR 6.7.1. It was supported for the very first time in ACR 7.3 whch requires CS6 to run.
Therefore you will never be able to open raw CR2 files from the 6D directly in CS5.
If you do not plan on upgrading, you can download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 (always use the latest version, it's not tied to your version of Photoshop at all), install it like any other application and then run it on each batch of CR2 files to convert them to raw DNG files that you can then open in your version of Photoshop and ACR.

    I trialled cc Photoshop.
    I had Photoshop CS4

I used LR4 and cc as well as CS4 during that time
    BUT
    when I uninstalled cc
    after initial work in LR4
I try to open it in PS4
it no longer recognise my Cr2 (Canon Mark 111 tif files)
(which it had no problem with previously.
When I try to go from LR$ to PSCS4
    it now tell me
this version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7.4 for full compatibility.
Please update the Camera Raw plug in using the update tool in the Photoshop help menu.

    HELP!!!

    G'day Curt,
I smacked myself on the forehead when I read your reply. How could I have forgotten to do that? However, after trying that, the problem persists and more files are corrupting. I now have around ten files of around 200 in a party folder I have that have corrupted. They all were perfect several days ago.
I'm starting to get worried as I work for the local rag and have social pics this weekend to process. I can't afford to let this happen to them.
    Thanks for the suggestion....

  • Bridge CS4 Cannot launch Photoshop

When opening an image from Bridge, I get the Photoshop splash screen, then "Photoshop has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem." (If Photoshop is already running, I have no problem.) This also occurs if I attempt to open an image with Photoshop from Windows Explorer. Also, while the icon on the Windows Start Menu launches Photoshop successfully, the shortcut placed on the desktop when CS4 Creative Suite was installed also had the above problem. This would indicate the problem was created at installation.
I suspect there is a problem with the path, but I can't figure out how to fix it. Would like a global fix rather than having to change paths for every file extension pointing to PS CS4.
    (Windows 7)
    Your thoughts?

All the applications are checked there. However, when you click on the button to "Reveal Scripts" it takes me to an empty folder. Sounds like a problem, BUT....
I checked with someone else and their folder shows empty too, plus my Illustrator launches properly. (BTW, this is not in a corporate environment, just a personal copy on a personal computer.)
I sure appreciate your suggestions, though. Keep 'em coming!

  • E4200v2 Bridge mode, cannot view/ping wireless devices

    Hi everyone,
I currently have 2 e4200 wireless routers. The first router is connected to 3 devices via ethernet, and the 4th port is connected to my other e4200v2 which is set as bridge mode. The main router is at one end of the house, the second bridge mode router is at the other end.
My wireless devices are connected to the main e4200v2, along with all the wired clients.
Here is the problem: When wirelessly connected to the 2nd e4200 (the bridged one) I cannot connect to or ping any wireless clients that are connected to the main router. (For example, in my bedroom I am connected with my computer to the 2nd bridged router, and I am trying to ping my other computer that is wireless connected to the main router. I am unable to ping to this computer. When I am conected wirelessIy to the mian router, than I am able to ping the other wireless computer on the same router. Note:I am able to access any hard wired devices to the main router, regardless of which router I am connected to. The issue only appears to be when trying to connect to a wireless device that is connected to a different router than the device I am connecting from.
Both routers are setup on the same subnet mask with firmware Ver.2.1.39.145204
Any suggestions or help is much appreciated, as I've been trying to figure this out for days.
    Thanks,
    Christopher

I absolutley understand, and I appreciate your time.
I think I may have found the issue. I am not sure why this would affect my situation, but the bridged router had 2 different DNS addresses than the main router. Once I set them all to (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) it worked!

  • Bridge CS4- Cannot get vertical filmstrip

    Hi,
Even though I select the vertical filmstrip option, I only get the images at the bottom, horizontal display, not vertical on the side as in Bridge CS3.
    What am I missing?

Thanks, after some effort I did get it set up. Why did the developers make this so hard? It was much easier in CS3. Is there a way to save this work space?
Also, I am not able to move the panels around. I would like to shrink the metadata panel below the content panel. I am unable to separate the panels.

  • Replace Metadata in Bridge CS4 appears to truncate 5.9GB .PSB File; Does CS6 do this too?

I am running Photoshop CS4 on a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.8, and ran into a problem with Bridge. I would like to know if this problem occurs with Photoshop CS6. Here's the sequence of events:
    1.  I have a 5.9GB .psb file created with PS; it loads into PS cleanly - no errors.
    2.  In Bridge, I create a metadata template, and apply it to my .psb file using "Replace Metadata".
    3.  The "Replace Metadata" operation completes quite quickly, no error messages
    4.  Immediately after the "replace Metadata" operation Bridge reports that my 5.9GB file is now a 1.6GB file - 4.3GB smaller!!
    5.  Bridge displays the updated metadata, no visible indication anything is wrong.
    6.  Now the file will not open in Photoshop - the read starts, but errors out with "unexpected end of file".
    7.  I restore the 5.9GB file and can open it in Photoshop without problems.
    Update:
This problem is not specific to the "Replace Metadata" function in the Bridge menu.  I get a similar result by updating the metadata for this file in the Metadata Panel; the resulting file is truncated, but appears to be a different size this time, and it will not open in Photoshop - same error message as before.
    This is a 34-image 36856px X 7464px panorama

Thanks for your suggestion, appreciate your effort to help.  The link you provided seems to focus on transfer rates and performance; it does take a while to write or read this file, but I expect that.  I'm not using RAID of any flavour.  I do not expect file corruption, which is what I believe is happening (and PS is reporting).
I have a number of large panoramas; this is the largest.  I believe the largest of the others is a bit over 3GB; I have no difficulty updating the metadata in the other panoramas through the metadata panel or with "Replace Metadata".  All of these files live on the same drive (therefore connected to the same firewire port).  They are backed up to a USB drive with Time Machine, and I've recovered the 5.9GB file from the Time Machine drive a number of times.  I can always read the recovered file with PS, and the size after recovery is always exactly the same.  When I realized that the size of my 5.9GB file changed during/because of the metadata update, I reverted to an earlier stage in the post-processing, got a 3.8GB .PSB and put a copy on DVD; the DVD copy is good, and I can easily and quickly reconstruct the 5.9GB file by applying the same actions used the first time (the 5.9GB file has three layers that are not in the 3.8GB .PSB).  I have not tried to change metadata in the 3.8GB PSB, and can't try that for the next few weeks as I'll be travelling.  The only thing I'm certain of is that updating the metadata in the 5.9GB .PSB reduces the size to 1.6GB (put text in Headline field through Metadata panel) or 1.4GB ("Replace Metadata" in Bridge Tools menu), depending on how the update is done.
So, the 5.9GB file has survived several complete transfers (PS=>Disk, Disk=>Time Machine, multiple Time Machine=>Disk, PS=>Disk to 3.8GB after deleting layers, and Disk(3.8GB)=>DVD) with no signs of corruption.
It's very hard to accept the idea that there's some kind of hardware problem that afflicts just one file.  The 5.9GB file is output from PS CS4, and I can read it back into PS with no problem.
I'll watch this forum for a few days to see if there are more answers until I have to travel.  If not, I'll figure it out another way and report a bug in CS6 if that appears to be appropriate.

  • Cannot view AVdv and some AVI files- what to do?

    Hello folk,
I have a number of videos which do not wish to work on my QT 10.1 and QT 7 (pro)- one is a MOV with an AVdv codec the others are AVI which have sound but no video.  When viewed with the QT player they appear black but in the iDVD previewer they were white (no idea if that is relevant).  Of the four or so AVIs?  Only two or three are thus affected...  o_O
I downloaded VLC 1.1 because it appeared to help someone else with the same set up as myself.  I also got Perian 1.2.2 and even DivX for that is worth.
    Still no go.
Can someone tell me what I need to do in order to be able to use these files, please?  Would be so very grateful.

Well I am able to do something with them (.avis).  Just need a couple more resolving.

    Hi john a knoll,
Are you receiving an error message when you try to convert files? If so, what is it?
Can you please tell us a bit more about the files that you're trying to convert, and whether you're converting via the web interface, or through Adobe Reader?
I look forward to hearing back from you so we can get this sorted out.

  • Viewing and Editing Mac Partition Files

    Hi,
I've just installed Windows 7 on my 13 inch MacBook Pro running Mavericks.
I thought Bootcamp was capable of letting Windows 7 access the Macintosh HD partition, but the Mac partition doesn't even appear on Windows Explorer.
Is there anyway to fix this?
Additional Information- This laptop uses a Fusion Drive (SSD and HDD Logical Volume Group, refer to the image). This may be the cause.
    Thanks,

No one has any of these apps?

  • In Bridge- Edited CR2 Files(JPG/TIF) Are Not Lining Up next to CR2 File

I had this problem once before and the forum got it fixed. I now cannot find that "discussion"
After editing a file in Bridge and saving in Bridge as a TIF or JPG, When it places the file back in Bridge it appears not next to the CR2 file but at the end of the folder. You may notice that all is correct in the images above the outlined problem.
    Thanks!

HELP!! Don't Know why images are blurred. They were sized for web and no bigger than allowed size.

Have received some advice but not the correct fix.
All machines in question work fine with these settings: View>Sort>Ascending Order> Manually
The machine in question worked like this until yesterday. Now it will only sort like this: View>Sort>Ascending Order>By Filename
This was not the fix I received initially on this forum years ago.

  • Problem with Bridge CS4 reading/editing XMP metadata added in Bridge CS6

Please excuse me if this is a dumb/obvious question. I did try searching the forums for similar problems and didn't find anything that seemed to speak to my issue.
I'm having a problem where Bridge CS4 won't read/edit xmp metadata (specifically, keywords and descriptions in the IPTC panel) that I have entered using CS6. it will read some files, not others. The files are all .mp4s. Of these files, I can read/edit IPTC panel metadata for some of them in Bridge CS4; I can add metadata for all of them in CS6. I see no particular pattern in these files to explain what is and isn't read/editable in CS4.
My question is whether this is a compatibility issue between different versions of CS (in this instance, CS4 and CS6). i know it's a tired refrain to blame software when it could easily be user error, in which case I'd be frankly delighted to know what i'm doing wrong. Please bear with me as I give a few more details.
I'm using macs. I've tried this on multiple systems - for instance, on a mac pro 3 which for some reason has both CS4 and CS6 installed, i can add and edit keywords using CS6, but not when using CS4. Again, in CS4, some .mp4 files read/edit, others do not.
Bridge CS4 blames the files and tells me that the selected file cannot store xmp metadata, and that the properties cannot be modified. To be specific, in the metadata panel it says "this property cannot be modified"; in the keyword panel, it says, "This file (zzz.mp4) cannot store xmp metadata. No changes will occur." This seems odd, because I'm able to add xmp metadata for the same files in CS6 on the same computer, and other computers. I know this problem would disappear if all our computers were using CS6 (or CC), but unfortunately that's not a possibility at the moment. Some of them only have CS4.
Computer details (not an exhaustive list, but two instances): mac pro 3.1 running snow leopard, 16GB memory; macbook pro 4.1 running snow leopard, 4GB memory; adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
    Things I have tried:
Permissions - the files are set to read/write for everyone. Given that I can add/edit metadata in CS6, it doesn't seem to be a permission issue.
Purging the cache - other users seem to have had problems adding metadata in Bridge CS4 where purging the cache for affected files solved the problem. Didn't work in this instance.
Upgrading all affected computers to CS6/CC is beyond my control. I need to figure out why CS4 won't let me read/add/edit xmp metadata, if only for the sake of understanding the broader implications for interoperability.
Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
Without having experience with mp4 files and metadata my observation is that you certainly have not updated Bridge CS6 ( should be 5.0.2.4) and I believe also not the latest version of CS4, can't imaging this also stayed at .0.0 so first try to update both.
And if CS4 can read the data of some files it should be capable of reading them all. Be sure to have the files completely cached first, can take a while.
Other things to try in CS4 is refresh preferences (hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs).
And also check for hidden cache files using menu view/show hidden files. Sometimes those cache files can be troublesome between versions.
If purge cache did not work and reset prefs also failed consider to also delete Bridge plist file and Bridge cache file manual (from user library)
