Bridge CS4 - Lost all file associations

I run Photoshop CS4 on my desktop and notebook, Windows XP Pro.
I have lost all my file associations with bridge CS4.  If I clicked on a .jpg MS paint would start up.  It use to work before no problem.  If I reset, it does nothing.  This is happening on **both** of my machines.
I manually changed them all to PS CS4 and still the oddd time MS Paint will start and not PS.
Any ideas how to fix this?

There are 2 places to look.  One is in Bridge preferences/file associations. If that does not fix the problem in XP open Explorer Tools/Folder Options/file types.
Look to see that the default program for the file type is what you want.
Good hunting.

I manually selected PS CS4 but at times MS Paint still comes up and if I click the restore defaults, NOTHING happens.

I have a similar but subtle difference showing up. This morning, I clicked Open on a .psd in Bridge CS3 and got "~Photo~1" in place of a program selection. In some cases, I got this and CS4 as options. If I go to Find in Explorer, it opens. Since I have decided to wait for CS5 and the trial period is almost over, I uninstalled CS4 and did a cleanup afterwards. Now, when I go to CS3 Bridge nothing happens. Find in Explorer says it cannot open it either. So I checked File Associations and sure enough it was practically empty, saying "None" to the vast majority of file types. It even indicated None for the nef files but they do open in ACR anyway.
Since my three basic file types are Tiff, psd and nef, I got those working by re-associating them in XP. I also have a number of DNG, but haven't tried these yet.
Reading the links here, it looks like this is a real bug and since it is persistent back to CS2, has been around for a while.
I expect I will have to uninstall CS3 and do a CS cleaner and start over again.
This is on XP. I have Win7 as well, but at the moment, only CS3 there. I'll reinstall CS4 then uninstall it and see if W7 is also a problem.

Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.
Music Rescue is a program you can use to transfer any and all data (music, movies, pictures..) from your iPod to your computer, and iTunes.

  • Lost all files in crash while install of at                                                7

lost all files in crash while install of at&t internet gateway

Thanks. I will try this. My previous machine was running Vista and I
rarely compacted folders. NEVER had a problem. Apparently
Win 8.1 is more sensitive to this.

  • CS4 Bridge not showing all files

I'm working on a 1TB drive in a directory with about 1000 dng files.  When use Bridge not all files are shown and there are no filters selected.  I go into the directory using Windows Explorer and they are indeed there.  I can select the file in Windows Explorer and open it in Photoshop without any problems.  Any help would be appreciated.

Strange, when I set the option to show reject and hidden files nothing changed.  When I set the show items from subfolders all the images appeared.  The strange part is that they are all in the same directory.  At least it works now.  Thank you for your help, I appreciate it.

  • Problems opening files in DW CS4 - not all files and folders are showing

    Hi!
I'm trying to change some already existing files on the homepage but when I click the Open button, it doesn't show all the files and folders, even if I ask it to show all files. When I open the ftp folder in Explorer, I can see everything. I'm using Vista and Dreamweaver is version 10.0 Build 4117.
Most of the unaccessible files and folders were created using Frontpage a long time ago but this also happens when I create new files, although the new ones I created used one of the old ones as a template. Any help would be appreciated! It's rather annoying not to be able to access all the files.
    Thanks a lot!
    Mathias.

Not sure if that was meant for me

A link to the page would help us diagnose your problem.
Safari tells me that this file -
    FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf
is not where you have told the page to expect it.  Did you upload it?

  • Since the upgrade to lightroom CC I have lost my file associations and cannot restore it

Can anyone advise how to restore my LR file associations. I had to uninstall lightroom 5 as it always opened instaed of the new version. Now I cannot associate JPG or NEF files with lightroom, it will not link to it despite selecting the executable.

I don't have LR associated with any type of file extension. Not one file type extension has Lightroom associated with it and I have both LR 5 and 6 installed.
All image type files are associated with Photoshop or the Windows image viewer (whatever MS calls it), not LR.
Actually LR is not for Opening image file unless you have already imported them into the catalog. I guess if you wanted to you could associate those file types to LR so when they are double clicked the Import dialog window open so you can import them into LR. But AFAIK that isn't the norm. YMMV

  • Change all file associations in get info dialog box

    Hey all,
I got this program called Style Master to edit all of my CSS files. Well, BBEdit was still the app associated with the .css extension. If I used get info (cmd-i), changed the program from BBEdit to Style Master and then selected 'Change All' it would flip back to being associated with BBEdit. Even if I create a new css document in Style Master, it saves with a BBEdit association and icon. Quite annoying.
Any ideas why I can't change the file association from BBEdit to another program?

I believe the prefs associated with this action is: com.apple.LaunchServices.plist. Found in Users/Preferences. Place this file in the trash and retry.

  • Completely MESSED UP - lost all files - try fixing this! ha

okay so first, the ipod crapped out a while ago, wouldn't completely turn on.
i dropped it, fine, worked again for a couple weeks.
it crapped out today, hit it, fine.
crapped out AGAIN today, dropped it, turned on eventually, but i lost ALL my files.
i tried to restore it, but it won't let me...something about missing files.
now there is NOTHING on my hard drive. it even freezes up my iTunes...and messes up my computer.
i tried going to disk mode and restoring, no luck, same error.
and when i turn it on, now the file exclamation icon shows up.
i can hear it trying to turn on...that repetitive whirring sound...
i'm pretty sure it's done, but a last try - any suggestions?

. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • Updated to Mavericks - Bridge CS6 lost all previews

I just updated to Mavericks - Bridge CS 6 lost all previews except for a couple of folders.
What is going on here? Is there anything I can do to fix it, or do I have to build all previews anew?
    Thanks - suggestions appreciated.

Why are apple constantly trying to fix something that was working very well before they touched it?
Why did you upgrade if you were happy with what you had? No one from Apple came round and forced you to upgrade.
You might want to explain this more fully. Where did you keep these folders on your HD?
Oh, and the simple solution is to restore from the back up you made just before upgrading - you did make one, right?

  • Idisk empty, lost all files

Can someone urgently help me out here.
I am a frequent and enthusiastic user of multiple Apple devices (iMac, Macbook, iPad, iPhone, iPod) but when I gave my old Macbook to my nephew I decided to delete all files, even on the local Macbook iDisk file. I forgot to logout first so I am afraid I synced from the MacBook to all other devices hence I am lost now. No more files in iDisk, zero, empty!!!!!
How to retreive? Is there some sort of old iDisk backup file?
    Regards,
    PJ

No.  But you can get the files back on your current mac (assuming they were there before) by restoring from your Time Machine backup.

  • Lost all files in Thinkvantage foder

I have Lenovo 3000 N100. It appears that I have lost all the files in the Thinkvantage folder and some in the Lenovo care folder (no .exe file shown). Nothing happens when I press the Thinkvantage button, nor when I select the Lenovo care icon. Is it possible for me to download the necessary files from Lenovo site, and am I likely to have any problems as a result. I have internet access fine and the Client Security System (which I want to disable). Any help gratefully received.

check to see what the usage file weight is in the settings app under pages.
since they sync together, they arent lost, just need to be restored.
delete the app maybe and reinstall it.
does usage show no file weight at all?

  • Win 8.1 crash. Found Mozilla had lost all files afterwards.

Been running T'bird for some years, a happy user.
    Now on Win 8.1, with T'bird 31.5.
This morning, after normal shutdown last night, system would not reboot. After several retries, it said 'Repairing disk error'. Eventually it sorted itself out and started OK.
But when I started Thunderbird, it had lost all its profiles. Everthing else was working normally.
Tried to do System Restore, this failed.
I recovered the T'bird profiles (I back them up weekly) and T'bird was then now back to normal, so right now I'm OK.
BUT over the last few months I have had 2 or 3 system crashes with 'blue screen of death', which have recovered themselves but after each one, Thunderbird has not started normally, and I now suspect it's to blame for all these failures somehow. These have probably only been occurring since applying Win 8.1.
I note one or two similar other reports where the advice has been to compress the email folders regularly. I have always done this. I do have a lot of folders and handle a lot of mail traffic.
So I'm now starting to wonder. Any suggestions, please?

One further point, please no offense intended.
I lost access to my blogger account with Google several years ago, automated spam clearing bot of Google just deleted everything. Months passed before I managed to actually get my data restored. My point here is I now simply do not trust the "cloud" with my data. They make no substantive guarantees as to privacy, nor availability on a day to day basis or in the longer term. So I am wed to a local copy as well as a cloud copy. I think they cover different loss scenarios. My local copy might get wet or burned, the cloud might get hacked or the company just loose the data.
Some suggestions I can make that might help long term is create an exception for the Thunderbird profile folders in your anti virus program. They do not need to be scanned every time you move or delete a mail.
Turn off incoming mail scanning. Especially if your are using Nortons. Most Thunderbird users are using SSL or TLS. Most ISP's and free mail providers now require it. Nortons does not scan email over encrypted connections. So the functionality can only have a downside.
