Bridge CS4 / Snow Leopard - No Raw Preview

I am shooting with a Nikon D200 - in raw my files show but I am not seeing the image previews only the .nef icon.  I have searched and searched for information on this and I am getting nowhere.  I have already downloaded the latest camera raw update and restarted to no avail.  Any thoughts?

The Raw plug in should not be in Bridge but in the library at root level.
Here is a link to the pdf with the install manual in all languages. Also in
PS go to the menu Photoshop - about plug in and choose Camera Raw. Inhere it
should show only one version of Camera Raw and in your case it should be
version 5.5
http://www.adobe.com/special/photoshop/camera_raw/Camera_Raw_5.5_ReadMe.pdf
am not able to select the camera raw preferences.  Yet going through the
library and checking for multiple files checks out - there is only one - and
there are no extra raw files in the cs4 folders either.  The file in bridge is
raw 5.5.

  • Bridge CS4 5D Mark ii RAW preview.

I can't preview Raw thumbnails in Bridge cs4 from my 5d mark ii. I can open them but not preview them.  I installed plugin 5.3 update in the right place but no cigar. A year ago I had the same problem with another computer and I adjusted a slider which corrected everything.  I'm on a Mac os 10.8. Please help.

If there are no images on the hard-drive, do you mean you are you viewing old images off an external drive, then, or perhaps off the camera’s memory card in a card reader?
To simplify things, try using Finder to copy a brand-new 5D.2 image from a memory card to a newly created folder on your internal hard-drive and then look at it with Bridge and see what happens.  Also try flipping to high-quality thumbnails in Bridge.
Otherwise, someone with Mac experience may have to chime in, to confirm if a Mac version of Bridge has its own version of Camera Raw separate from Photoshop, with the possibility of only the PS one has been updated, somehow.  You could do a search of your entire hard-drive and see how many Camera Raw plug-ins you find and if their timestamps all match the most recent one you updated.   You could also do an Adobe Plug-Ins within Photoshop and see if there is more than one instance listed.  This happens if a new ACR is put into the wrong folder and PS still finds it during the initial plug-in scan.
If Adobe has a fix, then someone here likely knows what it is.
To confirm, your subject says RAW Preview, but you’re not able to see either thumbnails or the larger one-at-a-time previews, and the only thing that seems to work is when you choose Open in Camera Raw from w/in Bridge, you can see it and work with it.

  • Can I restore the Snow Leopard version of 'Preview' for use in Mountain Lion?

When running Snow Leopard I enjoyed using Preview with my HP C7280 All-in-One Scanner/Printer.  I could place several items on the glass plate and Preview would then carry out a "preview scan". The superior edge detection software contained in Preview would recognise that there was more than one item on the scanner glass and put a marquee rectangle around each object (even separate images in a magazine page).  I could de-select objects if I wanted to at this point to avoid scanning them, or I could opt to scan.
Preview would then scan all selected items in one go outputting a separate file for each one. No need to re-scan and select the next object.  Preview would do the lot in one go! This was fantastic for saving  time for me.
Preview really 'kicked the crap' out of my PC at work. The best the scanning software on the PC could was to auto-detect a single item.*  So if I have a lot to do, I have to preview scan and then save/scan each item individually to achieve the same result.
All this changed when I updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.  The scanning is nothing like as effective and time saving as before.  Preview just scans the whole glass plate straight to a file irrespective of what is on it, no preview scan and no object edge detection whatsoever; not even a single object like on my old PC at work. Absolute rubbish!
I really want to restore the functionality I had before. So I wonder, is it best to revert my iMac to Snow Leopard, or can I achieve this another way?   I don't necessarily want to abandon Mountain Lion - but I will if I have to.
Is it possible to restore the Snow Leopard version of Preview whilst keeping Mountain Lion? Or maybe download the Lion version from somewhere instead - assuming that the Lion version still has same functionality as the Snow Leopard version?
*Even this is better than what Preview does since I updated to Mountain Lion

It's either that or finding other software for your scanning needs. For example, Image Capture comes with OS X, VueScan 9.2.09, ExactScan Pro 2.24.
Alternatively, partition your hard drive and install Snow Leopard on another volume.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Open Disk Utility and select the drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list.
    2. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive. Use the Snow Leopard installer DVD to install Snow Leopard on your new volume.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.

  • Photoshop cs4-snow leopard-automatically save files with same name.

Does anyone know how to automatically update a file in another folder that has the same name as the current file? (photoshop cs4-snow leopard)

Does this apply to all files you work on?
How are the parallel files being defined – by location relative to the edited ones, filename, foldername, …?
Will an index of the parallel files have to be written into the files’ metadata?
And what’s behind this, why do you need multiple instances of the saved file, if I may ask?

  • Bridge CS4 no longer reading Raw files after reinstalling PS CS4

I recently uninstalled PSE8 (using Adobe installer) and was prompted to reinstall PS CS4.  I did this and now Bridge is no longer reading my Raw files.  I just get a white blank where the image should be.  I tried reinstalling Raw Converter 5.6 but it still does not work.
I use a Canon T1i and am running Snow Leopard on my Mac.
Any ideas how I can get Bridge working again?
    Thanks.

If this is the same thing as Adobe Camera Raw 5.6 (I'm assuming it is),
    Of course it is.

…but when I check the version of Camera Raw on Bridge CS4, it's only 5.0.  I don't know why the update doesn't seem to "stick".  Any suggestions?
You obviously have a bad installation of the Camera Raw plug-in.
You need to remove the ACR 5.0 plug-in, which somehow you did not remove when installing 5.6, and instal 5.6 in the correct location.  Read the Camera Raw update instructions again, very carefully.  The location is detailed exactly.  Note that you start with the ROOT LEVEL Library, NOT your user library.
This screen shot is from an earlier post and it shows Camera Raw 5.1 installed.  The path is the same for ACR 5.6.  Note that you can only have one instance of the Camera Raw plug-in installed per version of Photoshop (5.6 for CS4, 4.x for CS3, 3.x for CS2) each in its respective folder.
Command-click on the thumbnail to see the image at full size in a new web browser window.

  • ***Bridge CS4 will not show a preview of my .CR2 files***

    OK...
I have been searching the internet for a couple hours with no luck. Hopefully someone out there can help...
    Equipment:
         Cannon Rebel Xti
         Adobe CS4
ACR Plug-in 5.5 (latest update installed in its CORRECT place!)
When i open Bridge CS4 all my raw or .CR2 files dont have a preview. Im thinking it could be because the adobe website says that my Rebel Xti minimum ACR plugin is version 3.6? But dont all the later versions support it anyway?? So 5.5 should work right?? Im at a loss if you have any insight at all that would be great!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Robert
Had the same problem this worked for me.
start up bridge go to preferance/advanced and tick the selection Generate Monitor size previews.

  • Bridge CS4 won't open RAW files from Canon 70D

I have Photoshop/Bridge CS4 which used to read CR2 Raw files fine from old Canon 30D@.  I've just purchased a Canon 70D.  Bridge CS4 will read the MOV video files fine, but not the Raw CR2.  I've downloaded and installed Adobe DNG Converter 8.5, but when I open it and it asks to open files to convert, the CR2 files are still unreadable and greyed out.  I'm on a Mac OSX 10.9.4.  Is there some way I could  preview RAW files from the 70D in Bridge CS4, and open in Camera Raw?

You need to upgrade to PSE12. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software) You could also use the Canon software that came with your camera to convert to tiff, which would open in PSE11.
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Ilustrator CS4+Snow Leopard Profile issues

Seems like something is not working in Cs4 Illustrator with Snow Leopard. Can someone give it a try to verify.
When I print to my Epson 3800 from Illust. It's not matching the same image printed via PS Cs4. ( It should if you follow a controlled workflow--which I do)
At first thought it was a color management issue, but everything is synchronized via Bridge, and I am using the same print settings, paper profiles , etc in both apps.
I then tried saving as a pdf in Illustrator. Same thing is occuring. Seems like the profile is not "sticking".
I did not have this issue before Snow Leopard.
If I open the Illustrator created PDF via Photoshop, then everything is ok....what is happening?
( have the newest drivers from Epson)
    Norbert

    No advice?
I have resorted to saving as eps from Illustrator and then creating a PDF from the eps using distiller. Then the profile for images seem to be recognized. Otherwise if I save as pdf directly from Illustrator to pdf, images are too overexposed--as are colors too light. (same issue occurs if directly printing via Illust,)

  • CS4, Snow Leopard, and Transparency Gradients

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I cannot make gradients in Photoshop that have transparency in them.  They always come out as a solid color.  Anyone else experiencing the same?

  • Photoshop CS4 & Snow Leopard

I have heard of a number of issues with PS CS4 & SL.  Not all like mine of course but mine is really becoming a nuisance.  I can load and use both PS and Illustrator CS4 with SL but after a period of using PS, my short key functions just stop working.  This is terribly frustrating.  Even Ctrl + Click on the Layers for the drop-down menu gives nothing but grey selections.  Totally unusable.  Then when I try to Cmnd + Q to Quit, nothing happens.  By this time I can still make selections in the images and layers themselves like adjust Text but not really much else.  Using the mouse to select my tools still works.  So I open the Photoshop Menu to Quite the App.  It too is grey.  Can't select it.  Thus forcing me to Force Quit the Application.  Most frustrating indeed.  I think I managed about an hour of work in the 2-3 I spent trying to get by.  I just did the Update for SL, but there was no mention of foreign program updates.  Is there anything on the horizon that will assist these issues at all?

Interesting, I've had the ”quit app menu selection” greyed out in a totally different application than Photoshop (twice).
Wasn't this also a not too uncommon problem with Mail.app in Leopard? (don't know if it's the same for Mail.app in Snow Leopard)
I haven't tried Snow Leopard and Photoshop CS4 extensively yet, but will hopefully soon have time to let one of our retouchers test it for a couple of days and report back how it works.

  • Bridge CS4 and Nikon 7100 raw files

Well, I use normally Bridge CS4 (that was included in Elements 8) to organize my pics and to edit or open in camera raw of Elements 11. I normaly shot in raw format with my Nikon d90. Now I shoted some pics with the new Nikon D7100 and I can't use Bridge CS4. I tried to update but Bridge doesn't work. So now I'm obliged to use Elements 11 organiser. Any possibiity to update Bridge CS4?

Adobe products use Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) in various ways.  Adobe does not work at, or promise, ACR will work in older or legacy versions of anything.  Your 7100 is a brand new model and included in ACR 7.4 and 8.0.  Whatever Adobe products you use will have to be upgraded to the latest ACR.  With PSE and organizer 11, you have to install it and upgrade with Help > Updates to get 7.4.
It amazes me that people will invest so much in a new camera and its new features without giving any thought to the software they use to support the new camera and features.

  • Bridge CS4 has no Camera Raw

    Hi Again,
    Mac OS X 10.5.6 MBP PSCS4
Camera Raw Preferences are grayed out in Bridge CS4 and neither NEF nor DNG images can be viewed in the browser, just the icon for a NEG or DNG file. I have to open a file in Photoshop CS4 Camera Raw to see the image. I can't use Bridge as a browser under these conditions. I don't know when this happened but I had problems with the language in Photoshop CS4 Camera Raw and although I have just solved that problem, I still cannot due a reinstall of the Camera Raw plug-in because the Updater says it's already installed even when the File Formats folder is empty. I can't find an uninstaller for Camera Raw. Purging the cache in a folder with NEF and DNG images did not restore functionality.
I thank my lucky stars that I use LR 2.2 which has Camera Raw functionality baked in and is not dependent upon a plugin.
Anyone have any ideas about what's going on? A solution?
    Thanks,
    Hattie

    Thank you prodic
Your solution has reset Bridge back to normal
But what about all those preferences I had all set previously, next time if this happens again?
I mean, is there a way to save the preferences I make, or do I just have to suck it up and start from scratch everytime?
I didn't know of the ability to reset Bridge's settings etc...
For those that also would like to know how to get out of the predicament I got myself in, here is the link:
    http://www.planetphotoshop.com/resetting-bridges-preferences.html
    And the content:
Want all the options in Bridge set back to the factory defaults? Then close Bridge, hold down Command-Option-Shift (PC: Control-Alt-Shift) and then launch Bridge again. A dialog will appear asking what you want to do. Turn on the Reset Preferences checkbox and click OK. Now when Bridge appears, the preferences are factory-fresh.
And to think I first tried Adobe's way of resetting ( Mind you, to no avail either )
A big thank you all that helped me, or even endeavoured to help me
    Warm Regards,
    Isa

  • Snow Leopard version of Preview:  Enable lines of text in the search results?

In Preview 4 on OS X 10.5.8 Leopard and Preview 3 on OS X 10.4.11 Tiger, when a search of a PDF file was conducted, the search term would appear in context in the drawer on the side of the main Preview window.  The multiple lines of text in the search results could then be quickly scanned visually.
In Preview 5 on OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, the search result display options do not seem to include the lines of text found in Preview 4 and Preview 3.  Is there a setting somewhere, maybe even performed via the command line in the Terminal application, that can enable Preview 5 to display such lines of text in the search results?

It's either that or finding other software for your scanning needs. For example, Image Capture comes with OS X, VueScan 9.2.09, ExactScan Pro 2.24.

  • Photoshop CS4 Snow Leopard Bugs: Cursor Position & Grains

Currently running OSX Snow Leopard (10.6.1), and just installed the latest Adobe updates this morning (9.22.09).
There are two bugs in Ps CS4 I've encountered, one minor but aesthetically unpleasant, and the other major and disrupting:
The first bug occurs at random when Ps is extended to "Full Screen Mode with Menu Ba." As seen in the image at the following link, graininess occurs in Ps's canvas background, and wont disappear until the screen mode is toggled (pressing the "F" key three times): http://img.skitch.com/20090922-tyxk4dfrak4dtf2f4rg7fgyn59.jpg Again, not a major bug, but simply annoying to look at.
The second, more annoying bug, has to do with the cursor and selection tools. I could not determine when exactly this happens and how it goes away, but a few times throughout the day the selection cursor is a few pixels off. When either the lasso, magic wand, marquee or other similar tools are selected, the actual area from which Ps begins to select is about 10-15 pixels below the cursor position, see image in link for clarification: http://img.skitch.com/20090922-1jyqdtj34xw99ysq4gjxhxx57c.jpg
I hope this notice gets the bugs fixed. If you're experiencing similar Snow Leopard side-effects and can detect how and when they occur, please let me know. The canvas background pixelation, I can live with...but the cursor selection bug makes my day twice as difficult and slows my workflow down to a snail's pace.

Not sure about the graininess as I have never seen it but it seems to be the same fix as for the curser being off by 10 pixels. cycle though the screen modes with the F key. this has nothing to do with Snow Leopard as it is present in both Tiger and Leopard as well.
This bug is only present when you create a new doc in full screen mode. If you are a new convert to Mac from Windows you might want to use the application frame, this will give you the gray background without those two annoyances. You can find the application frame at the bottom of the Window menu. this is a new feature on the Mac version with CS4.

  • JavaFX JavaScript bridge on Snow Leopard

    Hello,
Installed Snow Leopard and tested the javafx/js bridge example at: http://javafx.com/docs/articles/dice/.
It loads fine, but when i click any of those Set D1/D2/Both buttons, I get a "http://javafx.com exception occured" dialog. There are no exceptions on the java console per se. When I enabled applet life cycle errors logging, i did see one exception at load time (see below).
I have tried both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions (through the java preferences UI on snow leopard) for java-plugins but don't see any difference. The platform version is 1.6.0_15 (if i am not wrong), and the bridge requires only 0_10 to work.
Please let me know if you are able to roll the dice fine enough and how..
