Bridge CS4 To Defualt 32 Bit Photoshop

In brief, how do I get Bridge to open my RAW files (CR2) using 32 bit PS CS4 instead of 64 bit.
Here is what I've tried so far, to no avail:
1)Changed Windows Explorer default for CR2 files to point to the 32 bit version (program files (x86)) folder. CR2 files now open fine when double clicked in Windows Explorer, they open in 32 bit, but Bridge still wants to use 64 bit by default
2)In Bridge I went to Edit>File Type Associations and changed the Canon RAW (CRW,CR2) setting to point to 32 bit PS, but it still wants to use 64 bit.
I don't think these settings do anything, because for giggles I changed the Canon RAW file type association to Quicktime, and they STILL open up with 64 bit PS!!!!
I'm using Windows 7 64 bit (same experience on Vista Ultimate 64).

Thanks Gene,
Yes, that is a method I use too, opening PS 32 bit FIRST.
I wonder why, with all the potential compatibility problems with the 64 bit version (only 1 of my dozen+ plugins work with 64 bit), would Adobe FORCE the 64 bit version on you and make it the default Photoshop? It makes no kind of sense!
Thanks for the ctrl-O option. I guess that's something for now.

  • Bridge CS4 won't open to Photoshop CS5 out of Camera Raw?

I use Bridge CS4 because I prefer it to bridge CS5 but when I edit images in ACR in bridge cs4 and click 'Open Image' I want it to open automatically in PS CS5 and instead it opens always into PS CS4.  In preferences>file type associations, everything is set to CS5 so I don't know how to direct opening images from ACR to open in photoshop CS5 not CS4.  I've had it working on a different system but I don't remember what I did to get it to work.

Uh huh...and why would you expect CS5 to open the image from Bridge CS4? You haven't stated why you are trying to use Bridge CS4, but as you've found out, that is not an optimal solution....(BTW, troubleshooting 101 dictates that you at least mention what platform and OS you are using).

  • Bridge CS4 & photo downloader 64 bit

Since updating to CS4, I can no longer use the Adobe photo downloader,  The pop up screen says "Loading devices list" and freezes that way forever. What can I do to make this work again?

Seems like I have seen posts where the autoload does not work correctly when you plug in a usb device  with 64 bit systems.  This is Windows Os thing.  Might google this to check for solutions.

  • Adobe Bridge CS4 causes Blue Screen of Death! Help?

    Can anyone help?
I keep getting a Blue Screen of Death every so often when I am using Adobe Bridge CS4 and another program, either Photoshop or Bryce or Cinema4D.
When I have been working in the other program for a while and attempt to return to Bridge, the instant I click on the bridge icon in the low taskbar, the PC blue screens and everything dies instantly with no time to read the blue screen or to take a photo of it, never mind do anything useful like save the file I was working on.
I have winXP Pro and an NVidia Ge Force 8800 GTS graphics card. (both are up to date)
I recently got the Adobe updates but there wasn't one for Bridge.
Buckets full of memory: 289GB free on the C drive and I store most (work) things on my F drive which is a terrabyte with 315 gigs free.
Um.... dunno what else to say.
    Except:  HELP!!!

Well, I don't find that the magnifying glass ability is all that much help to me as often what you see in that magnified area is too blurry to be of any use - my eyes aren't wonderful with small things (including small text - I therefore have the text on all the machines I use set to quite large, browser included) so I like large thumbnails too, and usually I find that the big thumbnails are sufficient for me to find what I want.
So that's not been the cause of my BSOD.
By the way what's "ralentize"?  Is it like "pixilate"?
On the BSOD - it sounds to me that there can be more than one cause in Bridge of the BSOD, so it sounds as if Bridge CS4 - is just not stable, period.
The fact that Bridge in CS3 and CS2 worked just fine is a good indicator of this, (to me anyway) as most people seem to be saying so.
I wouldn't like to rely on NVidia's next update fixing this, as I've already updated NVidia once since this began and it didn't help, I now hear that there's now another update out for the NVidia Ge Force 8800 GTS (which is what I have in my PC), so I will be updating that when I get back, but as the last update didn't fix it, I doubt if this one will either, I think it's something that Adobe will have to sort out, but I doubt if they will.
So it looks like those of us with that graphics card are just left without being able to use Bridge properly - if at all.
I've given up on it on my PC and so I'm refusing to use it on my Laptop either, since it would be silly to get so used to it that I can't work without it.
I have tried using Irfanview, but it's functionalitly is comparably limited.  So I'm looking out for something else.
I don't at the moment have PhotoshopCS4 on the laptop and as I left the box with the program in it in my room at Uni I can't install it on the laptop with its different Graphics card (although still an NVidia it's a Ge Force Go 6800, not the 8800 Gts), until I get back next week... not that I really want to, if it's just going to crash the laptop like it does the PC.
I do have Corel's Paintshop Pro Photo X2 on here, but I don't use it anything like as much as I do Photoshop, but at least the Bridge or Browser (they call it "Organiser") on that doesn't kill the entire computer, although it does take up room on the screen instead of opening as a whole new window.
Also PaintShopPro does not save an inferior version of the image when saving as BMP, which I've noticed does now happen with Photoshop CS4 (when comparing .psd or pspimage with bmp).
    emirkill,
I will also try the "enable software rendering" when I get back, that you've used, in case that helps.

  • Bridge defaults set to launch 32 bit Photoshop CS4 - why?

I'm setting up a new Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine with Photoshop CS4. I am most familiar with CS2 on a Windows XP computer.
I've read some posts about setting Bridge to launch 64 bit rather than 32 bit CS4 Photoshop. I've checked the file associations and all those I've checked are set to launch the 32 bit - I thought the default would be to launch 64 bit. What is the default?
Also, is there any way to determine, once photoshop is launched, whether it is the 32 bit or the 64 bit version?
    Thanks.

The default is for Bridge to launch the 64-bit version.
Go to Help > System Info to check.

  • How can i set my bridge cs4 to open photoshop cs3 as a defualt

i have bridge cs4 and would like to set photoshop cs3 as my default(open with)

In Bridge preferences, go to File Associations and set it there.
You may have to deselect Camera Raw in Photoshop File Handling preferences too.
There is also a setting in Camera Raw preferences!

  • Bridge CS4 is slow, slow, slow (so is Photoshop CS4)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ CPU, 4 GB RAM, Windows XP SP2 32-bit, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card, two 1-TB hard disks with hundreds of GB free
With Bridge CS3 it took less than ten seconds to build the thumbnails of a folder with 85 image files. With Bridge CS4, it takes almost two minutes. Anybody having the same problem?
And where have the preference options for the thumbnail quality gone? I wanted to set the thumbnail quality to 'low' for a speed-up but I cannot. The options just aren't there in the Bridge CS4 preferences dialog ... and it takes forever building those thumbnails one after one, about one per second. And as if that wasn't bad enough already, Bridge CS4 extracts more than hundred thumbnails from only 85 raw image files, according to the text appearing in the status bar next to the spinning radar icon. There is something seriously screwed up.
And Photoshop CS4 is sluggish, too (no matter if Enable OpenGL is on or off).
So by and large, CS4 is a major disappointment. I hope for some updates REAL soon. For now, I am back to CS3. :(

Nope. There is no star icon, no square, and below the workspace options there's the Content pane. Why don't you simply put the thumbnail quality options where they belong and where they always have been?
EDIT: Now I found out what Michelle was talking about: the so-called path bar. Of course I disabled that silly path bar first thing after installing Bridge CS4 so I didn't notice that the UI of one of the most essential settings is located there---and
    i only
there ... even though it has nothing to do with paths. (Suggestion what to do to this UI's designer removed.)

  • Bridge CS4 only opens PS CS4 64bit -- How to change to 32 bit?

Opening a RAW file in Bridge CS4 automatically opens Photoshop CS4-64bit (via Camera RAW). Is there any way to have it automatically open the 32-bit version instead?

I'd like the option to choose EITHER the 32-bit OR the 64-bit version for RAW or for JPGs. It is not obvious how to do this.

  • Make 32 bit Photoshop CS4 the default instead of 64 bit?

It was a bit of a surprise to find that none of my 32-bit plugins would work with Photoshop CS4 x64. Most seem to work fine in the 32-bit version of PS though. Is there a way to make the 32-bit version launch by default from Bridge or when opening a PSD file instead of the 64-bit version?

I encountered this issue today as well when I installed Photoshop CS5, and discovered that my usual plugins do not work properly.
They did work properly while running in 32 bit mode.
Windows 7's extension definition sucks, that's why I rather work with the registry.
So after a bit tweaking, I think I finally cracked it.
The "Final Product" (if you will ) is two reg files for toggling 32 and 64 bit modes.
A word of caution: This is what worked on MY machine (Windows 7 64 Bit) and I cannot gurrantee it would work on other computers, nor do I take responsibility for any damage that my occur. We are playing with the Registry here, so BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.
These codes assume Photoshop is installed in the default location. If you've altered it, make sure to modify the files accordingly first.
Before attempting to use I recommend to create a restore point, just in case something may go wrong.
    Here we go:
To switch to 32 bit mode, open a blank notepad page, paste the below code and save it as "fix.reg" (NOT TXT). After saving, activate it and you're good to go.
    32 Bit Mode
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell]
    "FriendlyCache"="Adobe Photoshop"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\edit]

  • Photoshop CS4 - File Type Associations and Bridge CS4

I have both Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop Elements 7.0 installed on my PC running Windows Vista Home Premium, I removed Photoshop CS3 after installing CS4. The issue I have is that if I look at file associations in Bridge CS4 under Preferences, none of the file types are set to Photoshop CS4, they are set to either Explorer or Photoshop Elements 7.0. The even stranger thing is also that if I try to change the associations, Photoshop CS4 is not even displayed as an option, as Photoshop Elements 7.0 always is, I have to browse in order to find it. This works, but I find it strange. Also within Windows none of the file associations are set to Photoshop CS4 after installation, I have to change them manually, again by browsing for it. I remember that in previous installs of Photoshop there was the possibility to change or use default file associtions, does CS4 have this? I guess this is not really a problem, but I find it somewhat strange that Elements 7.0 is always offered as an option but not CS4 and makes me feel it hasn't installed properly. Anyone have any ideas?

CCleaner did the trick for me too!
But I still suspect something about CS4 installer is not right.
Under CS3 I used Vista "open with">"choose program">"always use" to assiciate bridge CS3 with my canon camera raw files.. At that time it did work.
After installing CS4, I wanted to do the same with bridge CS4 but it didnt work. In the "choose program" vista menu, whatever I was doing, I couldnt select bridge CS4 it was always comming back to photoshop cs4 or bridge cs3.
After using CCleaner, I could re-associate the way I want right away.
So my word to photoshop's installer developper: please try to reproduce this issue, it should be easy, and make the installer avoid this.
    Thanks

  • 64 Bit Photoshop CS4 running on 64 Bit WIndows 7 - does it work for anyone?

    Hi,
Is anyone running 64 BI Photoshop CS4 running on 64 Bit WIndows 7 without any problems?   Mine is totally unusable due to wild erratic brushes (clone, healing, eraser and more).  I have had zero success with Adobe.  Two weeks after posting a support incident, they finally responded with an answer that had absoutley nothing to do with my support ticket.  Unbelievable.  SO maybe I'll get another response in 2 more weeks.
I have another thread that explains my problems, but that is not the purpose of this post. For this I am interested in what configurations people are using with 64 bit CS4 and 64 bit Windows 7, especially, what graphics cards are you using in the situations where there are no problems.  I will even buy new graphics cards, because I have to.  I cannot work as is.
Is anyone using dual graphics cards successfully with 64 bit Win 7 and 64 bit CS4.  if so, what cards?
    Thanks

PS CS4 does not support dual cards (or dual GPU cards) so the other card in the case is not being used.
    Set up is simple:
    M4A79T delux MB
8 gigs of corsair dominator ram timings 8,8,8,24 2T CMD4GX3M2B1600C8
    AMD 965 Quad 140 watt
    ATI 5870 with 9.11 drivers
    PS CS4 Extended 11.0.1 update

    MS Comfort Optical 3000 mouse
Windows 7 professional 64 bit plus updates. Aero turned on.

  • 64 bit Lightroom 2.5 work well with 32 bit Photoshop CS4?

Anyone know if 64 bit Lightroom 2.5 works well with 32 bit Photoshop CS4?  Any problems or conflicts?  Or should I stick to 32 bit Lightroom 2.5?

It works fine, but the default will be to use the 64bit version of CS4 (which is also installed along with the 32bit version).
If you want to use the 32bit version of CS4 the easiest way is to open the 32bit CS4 before sending files from LR. I only have a few plugins that don't have 64bit versions, so I mostly use the 64 bit version of CS4, but occasionally I do use the 32bit version and that's how I do it.

  • Bridge CS4 not using newly installed Enhanced Image Processing Photoshop script

    Hi all,
Hope someone can help here.  We just added this Photoshop extention:  Enhanced Image Processor by Manovi to our Photoshop CS4's Presets/Scripts folder.  Here's my problem.  The new image processor opens and runs great - in Photoshop.  But when I'm in Bridge CS4 and choose Tools>Photoshop>Image Processor it opens/uses the old script.  Does Bridge cache this kind of thing or what's going on.
How can I get Bridge to use the new image processor?  (note:  Old script was replaced by new one in Photoshop's preset/scripts folder - the old one is no longer there - although we did save a copy of it elsewhere)
    Thanks

I don't have CS4… but in CS5 the paths to the files in Photoshop's scripts folder are coded into the functions that call them… Bridge reads these files on request evaluates them then runs… I would suspect the file name may differ from what it's looking for… Have you tried calling it the same and placing it in the same location? If this fails you may need someone to edit the Bridge startup script (not a job for the faint hearted)… Sorry but that ain't going to be me it uses localized strings don't understand them yet… Paul R may well say he can do it I don't know… So NOT cached… but possibly NOT read either in you case…

    (MacBook Pro, OS 10.5)
After suffering many crashes and terrible performance of Photoshop CS4, I want to switch back to Photoshop CS3.
