Bridge CS4 Won't Download Images

I just bought a new computer with Wndows 8.1. I've installed Adobe Creative Suite 4 and encountered a problem with Bridge CS4. When I select File > Get Photos From Camera the dialogue box comes up, but it gets stuck on "Loading Device List... Please Wait"
Bridge freezes at this point and the only way I can close the program is to use Task Manager.
I've searched both this forum and the rest of the net and I've seen a number of people with the same issue but no fix aside from reseting the operating system. Has anyone had the same issue and found a solution, or have some ideas?
I've already ruled out issues with the SD card and card reader - issue occurs with multiple cards and readers. I've gone through the Adobe" Bridge Help / Troubleshoot errors, freezes" and tried everything suggested there. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt

Yes, as soon as the card is plugged in the Bridge Downloader comes up and does the same thing -
gets stuck on "Loading Device List... Please Wait".
Thanks for the response.

  • Bridge CS4 won't open to Photoshop CS5 out of Camera Raw?

I use Bridge CS4 because I prefer it to bridge CS5 but when I edit images in ACR in bridge cs4 and click 'Open Image' I want it to open automatically in PS CS5 and instead it opens always into PS CS4.  In preferences>file type associations, everything is set to CS5 so I don't know how to direct opening images from ACR to open in photoshop CS5 not CS4.  I've had it working on a different system but I don't remember what I did to get it to work.

Uh huh...and why would you expect CS5 to open the image from Bridge CS4? You haven't stated why you are trying to use Bridge CS4, but as you've found out, that is not an optimal solution....(BTW, troubleshooting 101 dictates that you at least mention what platform and OS you are using).

My computer crashed.  I bought a new Mac Book Air, but my Photoshop CS4 won't download.  It keeps wanting a serial number from my last product.  I put it in, but it isn't taken.  I am frustrated and furious!  What can I do?

Bateman777 I reviewed your account and it appears the full version Photoshop software title you purchased was Photoshop CS3.  As Kglad suggested please make sure to utilize your previous full version serial number.  You can find details on how to locate your registered serial numbers at Find your serial number quickly.

  • Bridge CS4 won't output to pdf multiple images with same filename

Hiya...my googling efforts have thus far failed!
I've got CS4, and in Bridge, I created a New Smart Collection to find all filenames in a folder containing "." or ".jpg" - which in turn searched through all the subfolders like what you used to be able to do in Photoshop CS3.  Very simple stuff, but all the images are jpg's, but in multiple folders (I don't want to move them out of the folders, as the files came from an external source, and there are heaps of folders, and I don't want to pdf each subfolder seperately as it will take forever).
The problem is that some of the files have the same filenames (again I'd prefer not to rename, as it happens a lot on this project, and they are all over the place).  So whilst Bridge will show the thumbnail images correctly in the content tabbed screen in my New Smart Collection, but once I've done the Output to PDF thing, for example, instead of showing both different images it has pdf only the first image but repeated it twice.  And this happens multiple times throughout the pdf, the more times the same filename is used, the more times the first image gets repeated.
I know that it is messy to have multiple similar filenames, but why can't bridge just place the image anyway?  It allocated a space for it on the pdf and does show it in bridge, it just doesn't seem to survive the transfer to pdf well.
The only other thing that I have done is use the below link (which was posted on another adobe forum thread) to create a custom pdf output template (nothing too fancy, just number of rows / columns, size, font etc).  But I've tried using the standard bridge templates and it does the same thing.
    http://www.proficiografik.com/2009/08/03/save-custom-pdf-output-template-in-adobe-bridge-c s4.html
Any help would be appreciated...even if to tell me that I am being unreasonable!
    UPDATE 16/11/09
Just to let you know that I seem to have resolved the bug inadvertently with one of the Adobe updates. The below is the link for the AdobeOutputModule-2.1-mul-AdobeUpdate.zip which was released on 2/19/2009 - which allows for headers & footers to be placed in the Ouput pdf. I finally installed it today, and everything seems to be working fine now (i.e. I can pdf multiple images with the same filenames and the pdf will actually show each different image rather than repeating only 1 of the images).
Must have been a fix installed in the contact sheet templates that get installed with the update - not sure why the original version was corrupted, but I've left that with the Adobe guys (I submitted a bug report - and they were able to replicate the problem but hadn't fixed it as yet).

When I click import from disc I am asked to choose a disc and then I get this message:
The following photos will not be imported because they are already present in the catalog. To see these photos in the catalog select 'Show in Library' (the import will be canceled).
This is followed by a long list of images. If I click 'Show in Library' I can see all the images with the same filename. And then they start to automatically write over those images with images from the disc. However they keep the same metadata and keywords from the previous images. If I click on Import and deselect the "don't reimport suspected duplicates" box, it imports only the images that don't share filenames and none of the images that do.
Is there a way of setting the "Don't reimport suspected duplicates" box in preferences?

  • Bridge CS4 won't open RAW files from Canon 70D

I have Photoshop/Bridge CS4 which used to read CR2 Raw files fine from old Canon 30D@.  I've just purchased a Canon 70D.  Bridge CS4 will read the MOV video files fine, but not the Raw CR2.  I've downloaded and installed Adobe DNG Converter 8.5, but when I open it and it asks to open files to convert, the CR2 files are still unreadable and greyed out.  I'm on a Mac OSX 10.9.4.  Is there some way I could  preview RAW files from the 70D in Bridge CS4, and open in Camera Raw?

You need to upgrade to PSE12. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software) You could also use the Canon software that came with your camera to convert to tiff, which would open in PSE11.
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • CS3 stopped working & CS4 won't download

    Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can help me.  I've read through the forum and can't find information which applies to my problem.
I have been using CS3 for 2 years without any issues until 2 days ago it wouldn't open and I got this message..."Licensing for this product has stopped working".   I uninstalled the software as directed and tried to reinstall (several times) but was unsuccessful.  I have disabled my Firewall, Antivirus software etc. etc.     I am using Windows Vista and have plenty of hard drive disk space.
After several unsuccessful attempts I decided to upgrade to CS4 (the trial version) however it will not download either.   I am receiving the "Fatal error 1603".   I have searched the support and found information regarding this error however all specific to an issue...for instance "AdobeColorCommonSetRGB".
The error I am receiving says:
    Adobe Photoshop CS4
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation.
    Adobe Bridge CS4
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation.
    Adobe Device Central CS4
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on what to do first.  I think I have most likely complicated matters by trying to download CS4 without resolving the CS3 issue first.
    Thanks in advance.
    Glenda

I  have the same issues and have tried all of the solution here and many other places as well. Anymore suggestions
I read your post and tried all the suggestions you mentioned
I have CS3 & CS4 master collection, both were working and some how they stopped working on my computer. I think it is a VISTA thing. They are legal copies and both downloads direct from Adobe.
    VISTA HOME PREMIUM 64 BIT – SP2
I have done all the steps I can find on the adobe website, and other places I look and nothing worked.  The software was working fine, and then all of a sudden CS3 and CS4 were not working. Not sure why. But nothing has worked, from uninstalling all adobe products, to using cleanup script, to cleaning folders and registry to find any hint of cs3 or cs4. used MSconfig to shut everything off, created a new user. Tried different cleaners. I have been working on this for over a week now. I also tried what was written on this forum.
I tried to unlock the sRGB profile and was not able to unlock that. Seems like this is a major challenge for me as well as others. Any suggestions?

  • Bridge CS4 won't open

I have Adobe Bridge CS4 and whenever I try to open it in After Effects it just shows an error report that says send or don't send error report. I have already tried to reinstall it but that didn't work either. I am desperate here, does anyone know how to fix this?

    Koolman,
I just looked at another forum post and got an idea that worked for me. Try starting Bridge while holding down the control key. Then check all the boxes to reset the preferences. When I did that, Bridge finally opened and when it did, it asked me if I wanted it to start up automatically at log-in in which I replied NO. Now, it seems to be working ok for me.

  • Bridge CS4 Won't Reopen the last folder used after reboot . . .

When I restart Win XP (32 bit) and open Bridge CS4 it opens to a specific folder (the same one every time) but NOT the last one used. My Workspaces also seem to be forgotten. Is there a way to specify the folder that you want Bridge to open?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Are you closing Bridge properly (waiting until all processing has finished) before shutting Windows down?

  • Entire Creative Suite won't launch:  Bridge CS4 won't load

    Dear Readers:
I posted this in Bridge forum because it seems to be the key behind Adobe CS4 applications being unable to launch in my Windows XP Pro SP2.  When I restart the computer and the Bridge Icon appears in the startup taskbar on the lower right corner of the desktop, that means that Bridge started up and my CS4 applications will launch without a hitch.  But sometimes, maybe half the time, when I start Windows from a cold or warm boot the Bridge icon does not appear and this means that none of my CS4 graphics applications will launch.  I think there might be an issue with some other graphics apps too like Corel applications.
I tried calling customer support (tech support) but the call got dropped because no one answered the line.  What is wrong with my computer setup?  Is there something awry with the registry?  How do I ensure that Adobe Bridge CS4 and the other CS4 apps will ALWAYS launch?
    Sincerely,
    markerline

From my own experience, and that of others posting in this forum, I recommend avoiding any automatic loading of Bridge, either with system start or with the loading of any suite application.
The idea of starting Bridge with the system is supposed to speed up the opening of Bridge but it also uses resources and may slow other things down. Also it actually prevents Bridge from opening properly sometimes.
Similar reasons apply for not having Bridge start automatically with each application. It is not a pre-requisite for starting the application and can be opened with a mouse click when required.
If your individual applications do not start from their short cut icons, try the .exe file and if that works, remake the icon. If they don't start from the .exe file there is some deeper problem within your installation.

  • CS4 won't open images w/Mavericks; no error message, just no image. Anyone else?

I got a message from Apple a couple of weeks ago to "download Mavericks for free!" and figured, why not? What I didn't anticipate was that my Photoshop CS4 would stop working immediately afterwards, a fact that has disrupted my work and caused big problems for me. Not happy.
I can open the Raw preview screen but when I click to open the image from there, nothing. No image. Yet when I go to shut down Photoshop, it asks me if I want to save the file. Which I can't see! Even jpgs will not open.
The guy at the Genius Bar ran diagnostics on my computer and all was fine. Told me to uninstall then reinstall Photoshop, but that didn't fix it. He said if I wanted to downgrade back down to Lion, I'd have to have my entire compture wiped clean. NOT a good solution. So...
I called Adobe. The fellow there didn't have an answer for me either; also suggested doing an uninstall/install. Told him that didn't help. He said he had no suggestions other than to buy CS6. So...
I've been perusing forums and chat rooms and not finding anything that matches my particular problem. Unlike other users on CS4/Mavericks threads, I don't get an error message regarding licensing and I did download the newer Java (per a prompt after initially downloading Mavericks). At this point I'm assuming CS 4 just doesn't work with Mavericks (I have a 2-year-old MacBook Pro) and I'm really annoyed. Had I known this would happen, I wouldn't have downloaded Mavericks; my computer was working just fine and right now I can't afford new software. So...
Anyone have any suggestions for making CS4 work when the licensing error ISN'T being triggered?

    Eustace: thanks for your response.
I trashed the com.adobe.Photoshop.plist, as instructed, then tried to open a file. I was so excited because it opened! Then - to check - I closed Photoshop, opened it up again, tried again and.... nothing. Back to the invisible files. Grrrr.
I notice there is also a com.adobe.Photoshop.plist.lockfile. Should I trash that as well?

  • Bridge CS4 with very large image archves

I have just catalogued 420,000 images from 3TB of my photographic collection. For those interested, the master cache files became quite large and took about 9 days of continuous processing:
    cache size: 140 gb
    file count: 991,000
    folder count: 3000
All cache files were also exported to the disk directories.
My primary intent was to use the exported cache files as a "quick" browsing mechanism with bridge. Of course, "quick" is a rather optimistic word, however is is very significantly faster than having bridge rebuild caches as needed.
I am now trying to decide if it is worth keeping the master bridge cache because of the limitations of the bridge implementation which is not very flexible as to where and when the master cache adds new temporary cache entries.
Any suggestions as to the value of keeping the master cache would be appreciated. I don't really need key word or other rating systems since I presently use a simple external data base for this type for image location.
I am also interested in knowing if the "500,000" entry cache limitation is real - or if more than 500,000 images can be stored in the master cache since I will be exceeding this image count next year.

I have a bridge 5 cache system with 600,000 images over 8 TB of networded disk.  I too use this to "speed up" the browsing process and rely primarily on key word processing to group images.  The metadata indexing is, for practical purposes, totally useless (it never ceases to amaze me about why Adobe things it useful for me to know how many images were taken with a lens focal length of 73mm - or some other equally useless statistic).  The only thing I can think of that is are serious missing keyword indexing feature is the ability to have a key word associated with a directory.  For example, I have shot many dozens of dance, theatre, music and sports productions - it would be much more useful to cataloge a directory that has the key words "Theatre" and "Romeo and Juliette" than attempt to key-word each individual image.   It is, of course, possible to work around the restrictions but that is very unclean and certainly less than desireable.   Key-wording a project (i.e. a directory) is a totally different kettle of fish than key-wording an image.  I also find the concept of the "collection" is very useful and well implemented.
I do maintain a complete cache build of my system.  It is spread over two master caches, one for the first 400,000 images and a second for the next 400,000 (I want to stay within the 500,000 cache size limit - it is probabley associated with the MYSQL component of Bridge and I think may have problems if you exceed the limit by a substantial amount.  With Bridge on CS3, when the limit was exceeded , the cache system self-distructed and I had to rebuild).
The only thing I can think of (and that seems to be part of Adobe's design) is that Bridge will rebuild the master cache for a working directory "for no apparent reason" such as when certain (unknown) changes are made to ACR,   Other automatic rebuilds have been reported by others however Adobe does not comment upon when or what casuses a rebuild.  Of course, this has serious impact upon getting work done - it is a bloody pain to have bridge suddenly process 1500 thumbs and preview extracts simply to keep the master cache completely and perfectly synchronized (in terms of image quality) with what might be displayed if you happen if you want to load a raw image into photoshop.  This strategy is IMHO completely out of step with how (at least I) use the browsing features of bridge.
It may be of concern that Adobe may, for design reasons, change the format of the directory cache files and you will have to completely rebuild all master and directory caches yet again - which is a real problem if you have many hundreds of thousands of images.  This happened when the cache system changed from CS3 to CS4 - and Adobe did not provide conversion programme to migrate the old to new format.  This significantly adds to the rebuild time since each raw image must be completely reprocessed.  My current rebuild of the master cache has taken over two elapsed weeks of contunuous running.
It would be nice if Adobe would allow some control over what is recorded in the master cache - for example, "do you wish meta data to be indexed".
(( as an aside, adobe does not comment upon why, when using Bridge to import images from a CF card, results in the building a .xmp file with nothing but meta data for each raw file.  I am at a loss to speculate what really useful thing results other than maybe speeding up the processing of the (IMHO useless) aspects of meta data ))
To answer your quiestion, I do think the master cache is worth keeping - and we can pray that Adobe puts more though process into why the master cache exists and who uses the present type of information indexed within the cache.

  • Bridge CS4 won't open .NEF file in camera raw

It says because photoshop CS4 does not recognize this type of file. I've opened plenty of Nikon .NEF files in Bridge. The difference is this is a D90 file and I've been getting D80 files. Is there a patch for newer camera models?

On a Mac I don't know which directory it should be in.
Camera Raw preferences: Bridge: menu Adobe Bridge/ Camera Raw preferences.
Inhere you can set the wished behavior for tiff. By default it shows tiffs
only in ACR when you choose to do so with right mouse click menu (open in
Camera Raw) or if the Tiff had earlier been altered in ACR, then it opens
automatically in ACR unless you choose not to do so.

  • Illustrator CS4 won't download from Adobe site

    Hello!
I would appreciate some help. I bought Photoshop and Illustrator CS4 for Mac on disc a few years ago and have since lost the discs in one of my moves. I want to install them both on a different Mac so I found where to download directly from Adobe (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs4-product-downloads.html). I clicked on on the link to download Illustrator File 1 of 1 for Mac OS X and it initialized a download but after waiting half an hour nothing had actually downloaded (it was still stuck at 0 of ___). I cancelled it and clicked on the link to download Photoshop and it instantly started downloading and I had the program installed in a few hours. Went back to Illustrator and tried again, but the same thing happened (as in, nothing actually downloaded). I don't see what I can possibly be doing wrong and can't find a way to actually contact Adobe, and I would love some help - I really just want to get this set up!
    Thank you so much!

  • Bridge CS4 Output Only 10 Images to Web Gallery

    Hello all,
I have, in Bridge, output workspace, selected 14 imges to be output to the web gallery and only the first 10 images are processed. Any idea as to why? Maybe it is as simple as a setting in the preferences? Thank you so much in advance.

If you are referring to what happens when you click "Preview in Browser", then yes, the output does only include the first ten images.
To preview the full Web Gallery before uploading it, you must generate the Web Gallery and then preview it by double-clicking on the "index.html" file which will cause it to open in your default browser.
