Bridge CS4 wrong kind of document message
Sorry if this has been raised before...I didn't find it looking through the topics.
I have just upgraded my computer and OS to Vista 64. Now any raw files I've downloaded from my 5D Mark II won't show a thumbnail or any metadata. If I click on one, it won't open..."wrong type of document." They had shown just fine on CS3 and any files that I try to open from before CS4 show up just fine. Only files downloaded since upgrading to CS4 fail to work with this new OS. I have tried purging the cache a few times but no luck.
Does anyone know the solution to my problem? Thanks.
CS3 and CS4 are two separate programs on your computer, they do not share files. So check the files on CS4 to make sure you have the latest ACR, and in the right directory.

When openong photoshop cs4- could not complete your request because wrong kind of document
Hi
I've just installed the free trial of photoshop cs4.. with much difficulty! Firstly it was saying please install adobe file exe? which I don't have a clue how to do. But I managed to install photoshop and thought I was getting somewhere, but now it keeps popping up with couldn't complete your request because it's the wrong kind of document? It allows me to go into photoshop but I can't seem to do anything? Can anyone help?
I'm a novice with computers so please bear this in mind when you respond. Many thanksI found that knowledge-base article and did every step in it...
I even went beyond... I deactivated CS4, completely uninstalled using AppZapper and then manually went through and tossed every adobe pref file in both users and in system.
I then reinstalled CS4 from scratch, reactivated, and exact same issue. It happens when running in both the 32, and 64 bit kernel as well.
It's so odd too... it runs fine for around 40 seconds. I can open a doc, add type, but then that annoying error pop-up comes and it gets stuck in a loop. I can only click on 'OK', which just makes the error window open again. And again, again, etc... you can't escape. The only way to quit is to 'force quit'. -
NEF "Could not complete your request because it is the wrong kind of document"
I have just installed Lightroom 12.1 with all current updates on W7 64bit and now cannot open the Nikon D5200 raw (NEF) files. I get the message: "Could not complete your request because it is the wrong kind of document" although they open successfully in Camera RAW on Vista 64bit PC with the same version of Elements. In order to work with them, I have had to convert to DNG and open in Photoshop CS5, which doesn't support D5200 RAW (NEF version).
This is causing me a serious problem because I need to migrate all of my work to the new W7 system. That was the exact wording of the message, and I tried many times with many NEF files; but I just went back to the PC after entering the Forum question and everything works fine. The NEF files open from both my D5000 and the D5200. The pc wasn’t re-booted in the mean time, so I really don’t understand why it works now and didn’t 15 min’s ago!
I’m sorry to have disturbed you – maybe I should just have gone to lunch and tried again later. – I am a computer specialist/consultant, by the way, so I do know what I’m talking about.

Could not open wrong kind of document
Hi
This is not really a problem for me but curious to know why and how to eliminate
New pc--- New "successful" installation of cs6 extended -- No other programs etc in use -- First (and further) opening of cs6 displays "could not open your request because it is the wrong kind of document"-- Nothing requested --click ok ( or remove display ) and can continue without any problems Why and how do i find this document since details are not not displayed
thanks
briHi Mylenium
Sorry about that
The pc is new and custom built for photo editing etc . CS6 extended was indicated as installed" successfully". No other programs were in use and when I opened cs6 the screen displayed " cannot open your request because it is the wrong kind of document ". Only by clicking OK to this or removing this display was I able to continue using cs6 without any problems. If I close down cs6 and then re-open the same ocurrs . Until I remove the display I am unable, to use the browser, say, to open a file. However, assuming cs6 has not been opened and I select a file jpg/ tiff etc from a picture folder and then " send this file to cs6 "( via a shortcut) cs6 opens without the previously detailed display So as I mentioned it is not a major problem for me but I am curious to know why this happens and how such a document, which has not been rquested , might be located and removed
Hope I have explained better
Thanks

"Not the right kind of document" message
I'm running CS3 under Vista Home Premium. Has worked fine.
Downloaded ACR ver 4.1 and dropped it into the "File Formats" folder, having removed the old ver 4.0 first.
I shoot Nikon Raw (.nef).
Started Bridge. No thumbnails. Read the instructions on blowing out the thumbnail cache. Think I've done that correctly.
Problem not resolved. When I double-click on one of the .nef files, a message appears saying "Not the right kind of document."
Have I done something incorrectly?
Should I uninstall CS3, reinstall, and try to put ACR 4.1 in again?Where did you install ACR exactly?
Read the FAQs and the "Debugging" thread, please. -
When capturing images from a Nikon D600, they show in Bridge, but when clicked to load into CS6,an error message says that it is the wrong type of document, evne jpeg files. This is a NEW frustration.
Nikon raw files would open up in Adobe Camera Raw and so should jpegs.
If you select one in Bridge and give the command "Ctrl r" (Windows), what happens?
Also what is the version of ACR in the title bar?

I had to reinstall CS4 and now have error messages when opening bridge and photoshop
The error message is "The specified module could not be found. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.1\Version Cue.DLL
I tried what you suggested and it did not help. whenever I try to open either photoshop or bridge, I get a message saying that there was a problem loading scripts the last time that Bridge was open and do I want to try loading them again? If I click yes, I get that same error message that I reported in my original question and photoshop/bridge will immediately close. If I click no, photoshop and bridge will open but it will not let me open a raw format document. It seems like Adobe Camera Raw is not being recognized. One of the updates I downloaded was an update to Adobe Camera Raw so the functionality is there, it just can't be accessed. do you think I should try to uninstall and re-install Photoshop again?

When I try to open a file in photoshop CS, Elements or Lightroom I get the message "Could not complete request because it is not the right kind of document" This just started happening today. The only thing I have done differently is change my file handling to raw + jpeg on my Nikon 7100.
I downloaded camera raw 8.7 and I am now able to open my raw and jpeg files. Thanks

Problems installing plug-ins to Photoshop CS5 Extended on a new Win7 64-bit laptop. (Same CS5 and plug-ins installed OK several years ago on a Vista laptop. Now I'm just trying to migrate everything over to the new laptop.) Even some Adobe updates won't install. Instead, a message box pops up on the CS5 screen saying "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." Any solution?
CS5's automatic update mechanism is broken, perhaps because it is no longer updated and can't cope with the newer ways of updating.
So this means you will have make a list of the updates that failed, go here: Product updates
and manually download/install from there.

Ive tried downloading the latest version but then always brings up CS4 and says not the right kind of document...? ive tried going to Updstes in help and says all updated but I have version 5.0.0.178 of Camera Raw
Adobe Camera Raw did not support the Canon 550D until version 6.1 for Photoshop CS5.
The best way if you do not wish to upgrade is to download the 8.7 DNG converter and convert your Canon 550d raw files to dng so that Photoshop CS4 can open them in your version of Camera Raw.
Where to get the DNG converter:
Camera Raw 8.7 and DNG Converter 8.7 Now available

I am trying to download Bridge CS4's Output update, but get a 'can't install/quit' message when I open the dmg file. I have checked system requirements, space etc and everything should be OK. I have been using Bridge CS4 for some years, and for some reason didn't know about the Output add-on.
I have a late 2012 iMac, Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for responding. I have another similar question out, (by mistake I posted it twice). I have some options on that so won't take your time. Again, thanks.

Bridge CS4 Shows Wrong Dimension from The Actual One
I have the dimemsion shown in CS4 but seem that it is incorrect. Ex: My .AI file is infact 80cm x 200cm, but Bridge CS4 shows 24cm x 60cm
Is there any work-around?The problem could be that some files do not have the resolution embeded into the file, so Bridge is working the size out at a set resolution, in Bridge check the resolution alongside the filesize given, and does it compare to your expected size at your expected resolution?

Cannot view cr2 files in Bridge cs4 & Windows 7
I can not convert the cr2 files in cs4 nor read them with new Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit computer
Upon downloading from my camera I am unable to view the images.
After downloading the file, when clicking on the file in Bridge to bring it into Photoshop I get the following message” Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document”
I am able to view the images on the media card from the camera.
I have contacted Canon and they suggest that it’s a software issue and that I should go to the Adobe website and look for Windows 7 64 updater.
I was unable to find anything with this reference but I updated to Bridge 5.7.
After trying to see the images after the update I was still unable to view the images so I logged onto the Adobe Support site and was told that they no longer support cs4.
Any suggestions ?Keep in mind that if your camera is newer than the last released version of Camera Raw (5.7) for Photoshop CS4, Adobe does provide a free solution for compatibility, as Curt has mentioned, through the use of the free DNG Converter application.
The way that works is this:
1. You get your raw images from your new camera into a folder on your computer.
2. You run the latest DNG Converter application and choose the folder.
3. It converts the entire folder full of images to .DNG files.
4. You open a DNG file as you would an older raw file, with your old version of Photoshop.
While the DNG Converter provides you a way to continue to use your older Photoshop software with a new camera, keep in mind that there are significant improvements in the raw converter in the latest version of Photoshop that may allow you to make better images out of your raw files if you do choose to upgrade Photoshop.

Bridge starts fine but when i click on some files to see the pictures in there it stops working.
