Bridge CS5 Fullscreen Preview sharpness

When in fullscreen preview mode high-resolution images are not rendered with adequate sharpness.  Here is a screen capture of a section of a raw image taken with a Canon 50D (15mpx) as displayed after entering full-screen preview.
From this view one could assume that the original raw file was unusably unsharp. However, this is not the case.  Here's the a screen capture after clicking to get 100% display.
In fact, if you then click again to get back to the previous size you can clearly see that first the image blurs and then it zooms out.  The blurred full-screen display is clearly a dithered version of a smaller preview image.
Is this "working as designed"?

Have you been into preferences (advanced) to set Monitor-sized previews?

  • Previews in Bridge CS5 are not sharp

The preview panel images in Bridge CS5 are not sharp (almost blurry). Also when I select a thumb and view it using the space bar method (from within the Bridge) the image doesn't appear sharp. Anybody have an idea why? They look fine in Bridge CS4. I've been looking for a preference setting to no avail. Doesn't matter if it's RAW or JPG (same results).
When I select an image and view it using the space bar method (while in the finder) it looks sharp/normal.
    Thanks.

[I've replied to the wrong thread, but this is still relevant]
The soft previews also affect raw images which have been cropped within Camera Raw. The 100% preview within Bridge looks soft compared to when editing in Camera Raw.
Raw images which haven't been cropped look sharp at 100% magnification, but not fit-to-screen.
The raw files I'm dealing with are CR2, not DNG. However, I converted one to DNG and tried the full size jpeg preview option, but it looks the same. Even if it did work, it would mean converting all CR2 files to DNG, which is a lot of extra work to get round this one problem.
Here's what I'm seeing. They are both viewed at 100%. The first file shows a screen capture of the Bridge preview, the second within Camera Raw. Again, the raw files are cropped images, which seems to cause this 100% preview problem.

  • Bridge CS5 not previewing all PDF pages

    Hi there
After installing CS5 bridge only shows the first 2 pages of PDFs in the preview pane. Older PDFs seem to be ok, just not newly created ones. What am I doing wrong?
I note that there's a preference for this in InDesign for INDD/IDML previews - is there one for PDFs?
    Thanks!
    Luke

Thanks for your reply Fran, but I think you misunderstood the problem. My biggest annoyance with Bridge is that I need to open a PDF in Acrobat, Preview, or even Quick Look to view more than the first two pages, when I should be able to in Bridge.
I understand for cross-platform reasons you can't rely on OSX's native PDF viewing capability, but come on - Adobe developed the PDF format. Is this too much to ask?
I realise you can change your settings in InDesign so that it embeds previews for all pages, but this bloats your PDF file a LOT. Why cannot Bridge just render PDFs without these InDesign-embedded previews?
At the moment Bridge can't even tell me how many pages there are in a PDF before I open it - it always comes up with '2' if there are 2 or more. Hopeless.
I'd be happy to turn on previewing for all pages in InDesign just for INDD and IDML files as I don't care about the size of these files, but then you get the nasty huge PDF file sizes, even on Smallest File Size export setting. So I have to leave that turned off.
    Thanks anyway
    Luke

  • Bridge CS5 not previewing .NEF files

Bridge is only showing the .NEF image and won't load a preview. I've updated to latest ACR and Bridge on my Mac to no avail. My camera is a Nikon D7000.

Can you open the files in Adobe Camera Raw?  If so, that means that you have the ACR plug-in installed correctly.
What you need to do is to Purge the Cache for the offending folder(s) containing the raw NEF files, by going through the Tools menu in Bridge:
If that doesn't work, tell us what version you see in Photoshop when you go to Photoshop > About -Plug-in > Adobe Camera Raw…
We also need to know the exact version of Photoshop CS5 and of the OS you are running.
Please read this FAQ for advice on how to ask your questions correctly for quicker and better answers:

  • Bridge (CS5) stopped previewing avi Files.

All of a sudden can't preview avi files (dv-avi mainly) in bridge. Other files show ok.
I get the thumbnails but no preview. Bridge is a part of CS5 Production Premium.
Used to be ok. Haven't made any changes to the PC (Win7 Pro 64bit)
    Any idea?
    Thanks

Movie fles can be tricky.  I also have some avi files that have no thumb and others that do.  However, they all play.
Check the edit/preferences/playback and see if the correct boxes are checked.
Also, check Quicktime and see that it is up to date.  If it has been updated recently perhaps that has caused the problem. Believe Bridge uses Quicktime for video preview.

  • Bridge CS5.5 preview problem

I have a problem.  In Bridge CS3 it was possible to see InDesign documents (first 2 pages) but in Bridge 5.5 I can see only 1st page of InDesign document. Is there any way to solve this problem? I want to see first 2 pages of InDesign Doc. Thanks for Your help.

I think the OP is probably refering to the ability to see a two page spread together. That's gone, and much lamented, and there's nothing you can do to bring it back but file a feature request: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
Be sure to explain in detail why this ability was important to your workflow and why not having it slows you down or costs you money.

  • Bridge CS5 previews soft, any recommendations.

    I'm on 10.6.3 running Photoshop CS5/Bridge CS5.
My canon 5D mkII raw files are soft in Bridge's main preview window and they are also soft in the main preview in Camera Raw, even though these images are sharp as a razor, I have to actually open the files in Photoshop to check sharpness, which is just no good when Im dealing with hundreds of files.
So are there any preferences I can try to give me a high quality preview in Camera Raw & Bridge's preview windows?
As it is right now, all the preferences are set at default.

I resolved the problem, to get sharp previews in Bridge and the Camera window click the Generate Monitor Sized Preview option in Bridge preferences in the advanced pane, then purge the cache the close Bridge, all should be good after that.

  • How do I get Bridge CS5 to display CR2 previews???

    Dear wonderful Adobe community
I have recently upgraded to Photoshop CS5 from CS4. As far as I can read/ascertain/gather Camera Raw 6 came with the package and installed when the main installation ran.
Bridge CS4 displays my CR2 Raw file previews from my 5d MKII no problem. Bridge CS5 however does not and all I get is the statutory CR2 symbol.
Can someone please help help help!
    Thanks :O)

    David,
You may need to update Camera Raw to version 6.1RC (RC = Release Candidate or advanced beta).
ACR 6, which ships with CS5, was frozen a long time ago, before ACR 5.7 shipped, and it does not support some cameras supported by ARC 5.7 in CS4.  I don't know if this applies to your camera model or not.
    For more info:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2010/05/camera_raw_61_release_candidat.html
You might need to purge the cache after updating to Camera Raw 6.1 and relaunching Photoshop and Bridge.

  • Bridge cs5 camera raw 6.5 to 6.5 and new bridge cs6 preview problem

    Hi,
when i actualize camera raw from 6.5 to 6.6 the preview can`t give me right preview after 1 adjustment in camera raw.Image apears like when we open it in camera raw and it last few seconds with the yellow exclamation mark.
Months ago the only solution i found after several instals was to turn back to camera raw 6.5.
Now im trying beta bridge cs6 and problem come back for me again.
I use Nikon D3x with 14 bits ~49MB .nef files in Windows 7 64 bits.
Is any one have same problem? And why only in 6.6 (and new camera raw 7.0) and not in 6.5?
    Thanks

I use Bridge CS5 with camera raw 6.7.1 in combibnation with a canon 6D and a canon 5D Mark2. The raw files from the 5D are shown in bridge, the raw files from the 6D are not. There is just an icon. The camera raw add-on is the latest usable update for Windows, the canon 6d is listed as compatible. Has anyone an idea what to do?
The Canon 6D id NOT supported by ACR 6.7.1. It was supported for the very first time in ACR 7.3 whch requires CS6 to run.
Therefore you will never be able to open raw CR2 files from the 6D directly in CS5.
If you do not plan on upgrading, you can download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 (always use the latest version, it's not tied to your version of Photoshop at all), install it like any other application and then run it on each batch of CR2 files to convert them to raw DNG files that you can then open in your version of Photoshop and ACR.

  • I can't preview RAW files in Bridge CS5 or open them in Camera Raw

I've been using Photoshop CS5, Bridge and Camera Raw 6.7 with no problems whatsoever.  I recently upgraded the OS on my MacBook Pro to 10.8.5 and can no longer preview RAW files in Bridge, or open them in Camera Raw.
I've downloaded the Adobe DNG converter, but would much prefer to using my existing workflow if possible.
Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for any help!

Adobe doesn't support CS5, an when I spoke to Apple, I was told that this is a known issue with OS 10.8.5 and that they're working on a patch.  In the meantime I'm using Adobe's DNG as a workaround.
Have not heard before of this Known Issue, also find it hard to believe being true. But can't test my self because I only have CS6 and CC installed and always use Photodownloader to convert to DNG upon import. I have just installed the 10.8.5 update and checked in Bridge CC pointing to an attached card reader. no problem in showing the CR2 thumbs, it works as always and as expected.
To my knowledge Bridge CS5 is already 64 bits and I can't think of any valid reason why an OS update would cause this problem so suddenly (but I'm not a technician I have to confess…)
However, I would first try a check and repair permissions from Apple Disk Utility and also try Cocktail (good and cheap 3th party maintenance application for Mac) to clear caches and check permissions.
Also try a new user account just for testing to rule out your current account as the culprit.

  • Having trouble with Bridge CS5.1 building previews

I'm using Adobe Bridge CS5.1 and it has stopped building previews that are correct, if I open the image in Camera Raw it looks accurate but the preview in Bridge is not even close?

    Purge the cache.

  • Preview panel loses Color Management after Minimize Bridge CS5

Whenever I minimize the Bridge CS5 application window to the Windows taskbar, upon restoring or maximizing the Bridge application window the image(s) currently showing in the Preview panel no longer appear color managed (they look exactly as they would appear from a non-color-managed app.)  In order to see them as color managed again, I have to either de/re-select their thumbnails or double click the Preview panel twice (once to minimize it, and once again to restore it.)  Otherwise resizing the Preview panel has no impact on the color.  The thumbnails in the Content panel are fine.  This did NOT occur in CS4 or earlier versions of Bridge - otherwise the same environment.
I have a wide-gamut monitor, which causes many non-color-managed images to look super saturated, especially reds & greens, so it is probably much easier to notice this behavior in this environment than from a typical-gamut monitor.
Windows 7, x64, ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card, Bridge v4.0.3.9
    Anyone else notice this annoyance?

    Thanks Curt,
I doubt this is a video issue as no other versions of Bridge behave this way on this system.  I have the same preference settings in Bridge CS5 as for Bridge CS4 - which works fine.  Nor does Photoshop exhibit this behavior post-minimizing, & Photoshop behaves perfectly for all the OpenGL Drawing settings (which I have set to Advanced in PS.)  Bridge just seems to poorly manage the Preview panel color post-minimizing the application window, but otherwise everything displays fine during operation.  I'd be surprised if it was just me but if it is, it's an easy enough annoyance to work around.  I'd imagine that this isn't too observable on a normal-gamut monitor.
I tried your suggestion of  "use software rendering", just in case, but it made no difference.  Appreciate the idea though...
    One more observation:
While thumbnails are being generated for the first time on large images, they also have the non-color-managed appearance until they complete their generating, at which time they take the managed appearance - but I just consider that a processing-timing final step & it hasn't changed behavior from previous versions of Bridge.

How  can I see the previews of my D610 in bridge cs5 and how can I open them in my CC photoshop?

Nah. Raw support is version specific and that extends to Bridge as well. Older versions simply won't handle new cameras. If this is important to you, you will have to use Bridge CC.

  • Bridge CS5 preview / slideshow not working on 27" Apple Cinema Display

I'm using my 2009 (black key) MacBookPro and Mac OS X 10.6.7 running Snow Leopard.
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Adobe Bridge CS5 works beautifully on my MBP, my photography workflow depends on Bridge.
However, when I attach my 27" Apple Cinema Display and try to preview images by hitting the space bar I get a gray screen. Likewise, the slideshow renders only gray.
It's not the "black out other monitor". I've cleared the cache to re-render all the previews.
I've scoured these forums as well as the Apple ones, and the helpful folks currently at Photoshop World in Orlando advised me that, collectively, the kind people here know everything.   I know I can't be the only photographer who uses this configuration. I'd like to use the display for client previews/ordering.
I would so appreciate any tips you may have for me; thank you in advance for your time.
    Warmly,

Yes, thank you. I found that post - among others when researching before I asked. I tried all the suggestions in that one and in the others.
My issue isn't low quality rendering in the preview and slideshow - my issue is NO rendering at all in slideshow and preview. It's just blank. Gray.
I deleted the cache in my library and through the Bridge program itself to rebuild the previews. I tried the various options of "software rendering" on and off, and different configurations in the preferences and none seem to make the preview or slideshow work. I have all the updates from Adobe and from Mac.
I tried importing the photos I need to show my clients (who are coming to my studio this evening!) into Lightroom 3, and the LR slideshow works. But using LR and having to import photos into it is an extra step not in my workflow.
Ideally, I can make Bridge work instead of making yet another resource-consuming copy of these photos on this computer via the Lr library.
So - current state is unsolved.
Lightroom 3 slideshow and preview works, but isn't ideal since it involves importing the images into Lr. Since that works - would that mean my video card is acceptable?
Bridge can show thumbnails on the 27" display but no preview or slideshow.
Bridge preview and slideshow works perfectly on my 15" MacBook Pro.
I'm so disappointed since I bought the 27" Apple Cinema Display this week and was told it would work with my computer "out of the box" - I was sure to ask several times, "so there's nothing else I need to buy or do to make this work with my programs? Just plugin and go?" and several times I was assured, "Yes... plugin and go."
I sure would appreciate anyone who's made Adobe Bridge work with a 27" display. Thank you!

  • Bridge CS5 showing 16 bit previews

    Hello
I have written about this before and have never had a good answer.
I see that the latest version of Bridge CS5 64 bit Windows seems to show 16 bit previews. The previews are posterised.
I have a ATI HD5400 with the latest drivers running on Win 7 64 bit. Win display properties shows 32 bit display at 1920 by 1200 on my Eizo SX2462W monitor.
If I open a previewed image in Camera Raw, I see a initially a posterised image which then redraws to un posterised.
Bridge slide shows also show posterised images and do not have the sharpening applied in CR.
I have purged all my caches and also have selected 100% previews and monitor sized previews.
    The Loupe shows the posterisation.
    Photoshop CS5 shows unposterised images.
    Mike Engles

The Bridge previews are jpegs and I have a feeling that there is a problem with Bridge which is I think still 32 bit in CS5. working on a 64 bit OS.
Bridge CS6 (in fact Bridge version 5) is the first version that appeared in 64 bit. But I don't see the difference of 64 and 32 bit for the system effecting your previews.
The specs of your graphic card show that this card should not cause a problem.
To clarify, (no relevant knowledge of Windows on my side I'm afraid) you have multiple disks on your system or do you have a partition on the same disk for both XP and Windows 7?
And are you using two different libraries (read: two different cache folders for Bridge, one for XP and one for Windows 7) or do you use the same cache folder for both.
The latter might cause you problems. About each new version of Bridge has a different cache structure and they are not easy interchangeable (if at all). And I think both OS have different approach of cache but I'm not sure about that.
When stating that the problem solves with purge cache on one system and same solution brought it back on the other I think here is the culprit. To me this indicates to a cache problem.
Hence my suggestion of quitting Bridge and manual deleting the total cache folder (on a Mac this is in the user library) and  after restarting Bridge it will refresh with a new and empty cache folder for a fresh start.
