Bridge CS5 permanently working on harddisk

My Bridge CS5 is working almost permanently on my harddisk. This happens also in folders, which have not been updated (no new or modified pictures) since the last usage so no cache has to be build again. Especially this happens when returning from a full screen view of one or more pictures. After this Bridge is working about 5 to 10 seconds on the harddisk so that for this period of time no other actions can be taken inside the Bridge.
I tried to "compact" and "purge" the cache several times and even uninstalled CS5, but no change afterwards. Has anyone an idea what might help?

It seems that the problem was caused by the parallel installation of CS4 and CS5: when installing CS5 the Bridge automatically imported several settings by the CS4 Bridge. Even after completely deinstalling CS4 the problem still occured. So I finally deinstalled CS5 again, deleted all paths with Bridge settings - which might be from the CS4 version originally - manually and did also run the Adobe cleaner tool to delete everything from CS4 and CS5. After a complete new CS5 installation the Bridge now seems to be running alright, like it used to in the CS4 version! May be some of you experiencing the same problem with a busy harddisk would like to give it a try.

  • Bridge CS5 Not Working

I currently have PS CS5 installed on my Mac OS X 10.6.8 with Snow Leopard.  PS5 works fine but when I try to use bridge, bridge opens but that's it.  If I try to do anything I get the spinning beach ball and eventually have to force quit.
I have done all I can outside of bridge ... repaired permissions, uninstalled and reinstalled the software.  However, i can't even open up preferences for bridge as it gives me the spinning ball.
I am new to the mac (3 months), so I need some handholding on what to do.
    Thanks for your help.

Strange this did not solve it, as said 95 % chance but I really did expect it to work for you. Now I'm running a bit out of options I'm afraid.
Is it possible you have CS4 running in the background?  You can only run one version of Bridge at a time.
Curt, as you can only run 1 Bridge version of the time you can have all other CS Suite applications active at the same time regardless their version (at least that is on a Mac but I have no reason to believe it should not be the same on Windows). I can have PSCS4 and PSCS5 both open and active but the only limitation is Bridge. Using the open command Bridge opens the file in the corresponding CS version PS (Bridge CS5 opens in PSCS5 by default). If you choose the open with command you can without problems choose to open a file in PSCS 4 and work on it. Save and closing it will update the preview in Bridge CS5
    DJ,
You might give it one more try with the clean tool from Adobe, see also this link from Adobe Support:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Download the clean tool for Mac and carefully read the Read me files that come with it.
Be sure to update all custom tools, brushes actions (but since your a bit fresh on the Mac you probably won't have much customized?)
Use the uninstaller that comes with the Adobe Application (you will find the uninstaller for CS5 in the Adobe Photoshop CS5 folder in your default application folder (should be on root level, not in your user account).
First start PS and in the help menu choose to deactivate the software. Quit PS and start the uninstaller for CS5.
Be sure to also check the option to deactivate permanently, this erases your serial number from your system but surely you'l have that number stored on a saved place, you will need it again after reinstall
Use the clean tool and also check for the files from the prior mail, not all cache files will be deleted by the clean tool and you might want to trash them manually.
Install again with serial number and sign in on your Adobe ID and try again.

  • Bridge CS5 not working properly

Hi, I have been using Bridge for years, I have Bridge CS5 and all of a sudden I can't use the export to web/ pdf function. I also can't use the Tool>Photoshop>Image Processor. (It doesn't appear to exist anymore??!). What's going on?
As far as I remember I haven't updated the software from the net recently.
These two functions are essential to my work flow so if anyone could help that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Nat

If something happens all of a sudden first thing to try is restart Bridge holding down option key and from the pop up menu choose reset preferences.
Try again and if it works now set preferences again to your custom wishes
If your workspace for The Output Module is no longer available the reset prefs might do the trick for that.
The image processor is related to Photoshop, can you still the other Photoshop options like batch, photomerge etc. ?

  • Bridge CS5 freezes after error message...."The operation could not be completed, there is not....

Error - The operation could not be completed.  Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.
After this happens I have to close Bridge as it is unresponsive to any further commands and I often I have to use the task manager to close it.
I have scoured these boards and the web for a solution and have found others w/ the same problem (even people w/ much more RAM) but have not found a solution beyond the usual advice of changing cache settings, increasing page file, or making sure there is enough hard drive space.
I have two 1TB hdd's w/ over 80% free space on each but I only have 2 GB RAM (all my old motherboard can handle).  However, this error message occurs even when Photoshop is not running (only Bridge) and my RAM usage meter shows that I still have plenty of unused RAM available.  I did not have this problem w/ Bridge CS4. The error msg. of not enough storage doesn't make since considering the available RAM showing and ample space on the hard disk assigned to the cache (which is a different physical drive than my OS or the Bridge program.)
Here are some of the things I have tried:
reset Bridge preferences at startup, changed the location of the Bridge cache, its size and options, purged the cache, changed the page file size on both drives to the max, defragmented drives, disabled Norton anti-virus, etc.
    -What else can I try?
-Would creating a new partition on my 2nd hdd to be used solely for the Bridge cache make any difference and if so, why?
Please help, I am willing to try anything to get this to work.  It is a personal challenge at this point.... and I am determined to get Bridge CS5 to work on my machine......
Thanks in advance for any advice or insturctions you may offer!

  • Different Menus in Bridge CS5 and Bridge CS 5.1

For some reason the Tools menu has options in the CS5 that are not available in CS5.1 of bridge. Why is that? I'm also missing startup scripts that are discussed in the help files? How can I get the menu commands that are in CS5 into CS5.1?
I have attached screen shots of my issues. Bridge CS5 versus Bridge CS5.1
Any help would greatly be appreciated!

    Dear Omke,
Thanks for the advice but as I said before nothing seem to work :
first: I'm affraid there is no such thing as photoshop CS 5.5 :
"Photoshop users, rest easy—-there are no enhancements or new features in this update for Photoshop whatsoever, so Photoshop will remain at CS5, though there is a free patch so it will be able to connect to mobile apps that may be released in the future but just so ya know—-it is NOT a 5.5-level upgrade like the other CS5 products are getting." quote from the Adobe.com site.
    I'm running Photoshop CS5 12.4.0 x 64 : as far as I know the latest photoshop version.
There is always just one version of bridge or photoshop open.
Bridge CS 5.1 came with InDesign 5.5. And InDesign 5.5 only seems to work with Bridge CS 5.1.
I already tried to copy the start up scripts for Bridge via computer (root level, not user account) / library/ application support/ Adobe /Bridge CS5/Startup Scripts  but there seems to be nothing in that file so I revealed the hidden files on my Mac but nothing showed up....
Now I notice that you suggest another path : computer (root level, not user account) / library/ application support/ Adobe /Start up Scripts CSxx.
But I don't see any Start up Script file in that location.
    So I'm stuck.
I need to switch from Bridge CS5 when working with Photoshop CS 5 to Bridge CS5.1 when working with InDesign CS5.5.
That is not what I paid 749,-€ for !!!
If this was a restaurant dish with a bug in it, I would send it right back to the kitchen and have the restaurant closed for bad hygenic conditions !

  • Adobe bridge cs5 64bit - HELP: photoshop plug-ins doesnt work

Hi to all this is my 1st post since its my 1st time to have a problem with adobe. My problem is that i selected a number of images and tried a batch image process thru Tools > photoshop > image processor. After clicking nothing happens. I also tried the other plug ins like HDR, Batch etc but nothing seems to work. I went to the directory folder and all of the plug ins are intact and in the " plug-ins " folder. I also updated everything just now but still no luck. What happening here, please help me out. Thanks
    Dex

"Reveal my scripts folder" is to reveal the user's folder for costom scripts, not public scripts. If you have no custom scripts like you developed yourself and want to load it into Bridge, then the folder is empty.  It's normal.
The issue seems not plugin but scripts installed by Photoshop not working. Could you please let me know the version of Photoshop and Bridge:
    Photoshop: Help>System Info
    Bridge: Help>About Bridge
You mentioned you updated it 1st time, you mean update PS or Bridge?  Could you please send me via private message the install log of update? You can find it here:

    Windows 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\Adobe Bridge CS5 4.0.*

  • PS/Bridge CS5 Batch Processor Not Working / Missing Scripts

I'm having a bit of a problem within Photoshop/Bridge CS5 and haven't found anything that works to resolve it.
In Bridge, I want to launch the Photoshop Batch Processor via Tools>Photoshop>Batch.
When I select this, Photoshop launches, but the dialog to process the images never shows. On occasion, if I return to Bridge and attempt the same operation again, I'll get a notification that there's already something in progress and asks if I want to queue this operation. The other times (majority) I can return to Bridge and attempt the operation again but get no dialogues in Photoshop. I can try the other options in this menu as well (eg Image Processor, etc) and get the same results.
Here's what I've done so far:
    1. Checked Bridge Edit>Preferences>Startup Scripts and ensured those were all checked. I even disabled all, closed Bridge and Photoshop, then re-enabled.
    2. Cleared all Preferences from Bridge and Photoshop (using Ctrl+Shift+Alt at launch).
    3. Reinstalled Photoshop (multiple times)
    4. Uninstalled Photoshop, ran the Adobe CS Cleaner application, then reinstalled Photoshop.
It should be noted that in Bridge>Edit>Preferences and Startup Scripts, if I click the button to 'Reveal my scripts' the folder it takes me to is blank. Not sure if this folder is solely used for personal/user created scripts or for others as well, but it's completely empty.
I have also gone to Help>Updates and updated both applications with any necessary updates from Adobe.
If I go into Photoshop and select File>Automate>Batch or even File>Scripts>Image Processor, both dialogues open fine.
    Running Windows 8.1 Pro.
Anyone else seen this and actually resolve the issue? Does anyone know where the scripts are supposed to be located and/or if I can get them from somewhere else? Any help is much appreciated

Make sure Photoshop is not started and then try to use Bridge menu Tools>Photoshop>Batch does Photoshop start up?
Bridge CS5 menu Tools>Photoshop>Batch works on my Windows 7 Pro system
Photoshop Automate>Batch is not a script  and Photoshop does not any external java program it had its own version of java plugin.
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Plug-ins\Extensions\ScriptingSupport.8li
    c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Plug-ins\Extensions\ScriptingSupport.8li
However there are two startup scripts for the bridge involved Bridge and Photoshop  You must have them for you have a Bridge menu Tools>Photoshop>items
two scripts on my system are:
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS5\Adobe Bridge\bridge-4.jsx
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS5\Adobe Photoshop\photoshop.jsx
The photoshop.jsx seems to be the one the the inserts the menu Tools>Photoshop>Batch into Bridge and also invokes Photosgop Automate>batch  photoshop.jsx  also inserts the other Bridge menu Tools>Photoshop>Menu Itens that you state work.
Here is what I see in my photoshop.jsx for batch.  I do not know or understand Bridge scripting and do not know javsscript but what I see there seems to be some checking done about Photoshop being available and if it is not the script just returns which is what you seem to be experiencing the test looks like this
      if (!photoshop.correctPSIsAvailable (availabilityCheckOptions))
      return;
The whole batch support section follows:
    //=================================================================
    // Batch

  • Bridge CS5 Output to Web & PDF not appearing/ working

Hi there, I'm using Bridge CS5 and the image processor and the output function has stopped working all of a sudden. All the appears is an empty panel in it's place.
I have done some reading through the discussions here and found my start up scripts folder is completely empty.
What can I do to fix this?
    Can anyone help please???
    Nat

What can I do to fix this?
Quit Bridge and first use Apple Disk utility to check and repair the permissions for your start up disk. After this has been done restart Bridge holding down option (alt) key and choose reset preferences.
When still in trouble also look at PS. Be sure to have all your customized settings, tools brushes and actions etc. saved as a back up so you can easily reload them if needed. The restart PS holding down shiftoptioncmd and also in here choose reset preferences. Again start Bridge holding down option key and again reset prefs. Try again. Could you report back if this worked?

  • Bridge CS5 preview / slideshow not working on 27" Apple Cinema Display

I'm using my 2009 (black key) MacBookPro and Mac OS X 10.6.7 running Snow Leopard.
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Adobe Bridge CS5 works beautifully on my MBP, my photography workflow depends on Bridge.
However, when I attach my 27" Apple Cinema Display and try to preview images by hitting the space bar I get a gray screen. Likewise, the slideshow renders only gray.
It's not the "black out other monitor". I've cleared the cache to re-render all the previews.
I've scoured these forums as well as the Apple ones, and the helpful folks currently at Photoshop World in Orlando advised me that, collectively, the kind people here know everything.   I know I can't be the only photographer who uses this configuration. I'd like to use the display for client previews/ordering.
I would so appreciate any tips you may have for me; thank you in advance for your time.
    Warmly,
    Darcy
    http://hisandhersphoto.net

Yes, thank you. I found that post - among others when researching before I asked. I tried all the suggestions in that one and in the others.
My issue isn't low quality rendering in the preview and slideshow - my issue is NO rendering at all in slideshow and preview. It's just blank. Gray.
I deleted the cache in my library and through the Bridge program itself to rebuild the previews. I tried the various options of "software rendering" on and off, and different configurations in the preferences and none seem to make the preview or slideshow work. I have all the updates from Adobe and from Mac.
I tried importing the photos I need to show my clients (who are coming to my studio this evening!) into Lightroom 3, and the LR slideshow works. But using LR and having to import photos into it is an extra step not in my workflow.
Ideally, I can make Bridge work instead of making yet another resource-consuming copy of these photos on this computer via the Lr library.
So - current state is unsolved.
Lightroom 3 slideshow and preview works, but isn't ideal since it involves importing the images into Lr. Since that works - would that mean my video card is acceptable?
Bridge can show thumbnails on the 27" display but no preview or slideshow.
Bridge preview and slideshow works perfectly on my 15" MacBook Pro.
I'm so disappointed since I bought the 27" Apple Cinema Display this week and was told it would work with my computer "out of the box" - I was sure to ask several times, "so there's nothing else I need to buy or do to make this work with my programs? Just plugin and go?" and several times I was assured, "Yes... plugin and go."
I sure would appreciate anyone who's made Adobe Bridge work with a 27" display. Thank you!

  • "Open with" in Windows does not work for Bridge CS5

When I right click on a picture to open it with Bridge CS5 nothing happens. Does anybody know how to fix this?
It worked with older version of Bridge and it stopped once I installed the CS5.
    I have Windows Vista.

I found out that you can "Browse with Adobe Bridge CS5" when you right click on a folder. However this option is not available for single files. So problem is kind of solved. But if anyone knows how to open single file in Bridge please let me know.
So have you opened the fly out menu that lists the open wiht programs?  It has a option down on the bottom to set other "open with" options such as open with Bridge.  Does this not work?
It works one single files on my machine.

  • My drive crashed. Re-installed CS5. Works fine except that can no longer go from Bridge by clicking

My drive crashed. Re-installed CS5. Works fine except that can no longer go from Bridge by clicking on small photo there. I found the place to change but CS5 is not an option. Tried to change prefernce in Windows 8 but not there either.

Thanks.  Before my re-installation if I was in Bridge and found a photo I wanted to edit in CS5 I would just double click it and it would be brought in.  Now when I do this I am brought into a microsoft viewer. To edit a picture I found in Bridge I have to write down its name and directory, open up CS5 (if it is not) and navigate to the photo.  I found the place in Photshop and Bridge where you are supposed to be able to change the default program invoked when you double click on a photo in Bridge but there is no choice given other than the Microsoft viewer.  Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.  At some point some web site I was reading suggested the problem being related to CS5 failing to make some change in the registry when it installed? This, or its solution is beyond my ken... Thanks, RobStl

  • Dimensions in inches do not match in PS CS5 and Bridge CS5

Comparing the dimensions in inches between Mac Photoshop CS5 and Bridge CS5 show errors in Bridge's calculations.
Example: PS shows in image size 30 x 16.891 inches. Bridge shows in Essentials that the file is 30.1 x 17.
Is there a way to resolve the difference?
Seems that the dimensions of the file would be exact in the Metadata Panel of Bridge, but it shows the same dimensions of the Essentials data below the preview.

Well, I'm not necessarily suggesting it as a permanent solution, just a workable fix to get up and working again. Which is what I've always done - anything's better than those useless junk profiles that these manufacturers keep pushing down unsuspecting users' throats.
But it's true, some calibrators really are "silly devices" and in some cases you really are better off using sRGB. I've accumulated about 8 or 10 different calibrators over the years but if you ask me now I only trust two of them. Both especially and exclusively made for the displays they're used on.
Still, it never hurts to get into good habits early on. Your knowledge improves, your equipment improves, and you move on.
