Bridge CS5 using CS4 files cache problem

If I use Bridge CS4 on a directory and subsequently open the same  directory with Bridge CS5, Bridge insistes on rebuilding thumbnails and  previews (as indicated on the bottom status line).    If I subsequently reopen the directory in Bridge CS4, it  again rebuilds thumbs and previews - however only thumbs seem to be rebuilt.   The Preferences in both versions  of Bridge are "identical".  The bridge cache files are maintained in the image directories.
The cache construction seems to be quite fast (faster than anticipated) - I am not sure what, if anything, is being rebuilt.
Is this an expected  operation?
This presents some difficulties in that I  have 530,000 images (7 terabytes)  on Bridge CS4 and the reconstruction  of the files would literally take weeks to rebuild.

as there supposed to be seperate programs and independant of one another this is surprising 'not'
I have been onto adobe thru there support link regarding bridge issues and they
advise to uninstall bridge cs4 using there ceanscript.
well its a fiddly tool and no mention of just removing bridge cS4 it wants to remove cS4EXT too,
which i'm not readt to remove, plugins etc......
anyway, cant help, but there was a bridge CS5 patch released yesterday.
i have noticed that some of issues no longer seem to occur
so it may be wise to download it as it didnt auto download.
also i have seen the same issue you state so your not alone.
not sure whether the patch addresses the issue as ive only had it updated a few hours

Photoshop CS4 file saving problem: When no file name is specified, Photoshop saves file to the root directory of the drive instead of the current folder. It auto names the image with the name of the folder that was active. Can this be fixed?

Bug reports should go in the main forum.
And yes, SFW has it's own file code so that is a very important detail.

  • Cannot deinstall ps cs4 and bridge cs5 open all files in CS4 instead of Cs5

I temporarily could not make the Eastman Kodak ROC Professional plug-in work in my PS CS5 so I tried other programs to use this plug-in in. I therefore installed an old PS Elements 5 and PS CS4 (my present PS CS5 is bougth as an update from CS4) . However now the plug-in works fine in my PS CS5 and I of course prefer to work in this. I have, however,  acquired a new problem: The only way I can open picture files in PS CS5 is via the files menu in Photoshop itself. If I try to open via Bridge (and it is Bridge CS5) I can only open the files in PS CS4.  I cannot deinstall PS CS4. Bridge CS5 states that "open in PS CS4 is the default action".
Sorry if this is a foolish question.

Sorry not to have reacted to the above for so long. Even after doing as you proposed things did not work. In the end I (after the Christmas Holidays) I did reinstall the pc - changed from Vista to windows 7. I do not know what caused the problem initially but at least I think I can conclude that one should not install the cs4 software after having installed cs5. Thank you for your support.

  • Bridge CS5 using lots of memory and give out-of-memory errors

    Hi,
I'm using Bridge CS5 with the latest updates on Vista 32bit 4GB RAM on quad core machine.
Bridge memory seems to keep raising during the usage, browsing a new folder seems to raise it a bit and previewing files raise it alot, mainly when I preview a large 18MP files.  (Bridge seems to not freeing the memory and re-use it...  leaking(?) )
Very quickly the Bridge RAM usage is reaching about 1GB and at this point Bridge gives warnings that it can't generate 100% previews.
When I restart Bridge, it works fine for a while until the memory start raising again.
(It takes about 5-6 100% previews of 18MP files to reach that RAM usage - so the problem occurs rather quickly)
I've tried limiting the cache in the preferences and disable caching of 100% previews -- didn't help.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    I've tried
a larger page file - no change.
(I doubt it will help as 32bit OS can't accessthat much memory anyways)
I'm not sure why you think it's a HD/page file problem?  like I said, I don't have a speed problem of an issue with files not being cached.
My problem is that Bridge memory usage keep growing without any reason I can see - and at some point Bridge stops functioning correctly cause of it.
I deleted all my cache, and browsed a folder with under 1000 files, and after previewing about 5-6 files in 100% - bridge memory usage was close to 1GB.
currently my cache is set to 10000 files and not caching 100% previews.
Where did you find other peoping reporting on such a problem?  I mostly find people reporting out-of-storag errors and crashes -- I have neither of those.
    Thanks!

  • Bridge CS5 DVD burn with cache...how?

Working in CS5 on a Mac Pro 10.6.x.  My workflow is such that I burn images to archival dvd for off-site storage.  Images are converted to DNG, tagged, rated, applied metadata, and then I build the cache... Tools->Cache and select build 100% previews and export cache to local folder.
I have it so that I see hidden files in the Finder, which it seems the cache files are created as... .BridgeCache and .BridgeCacheT.
Even when I include these files when burning a DVD it seems to me that browsing the finished DVD in Bridge that it still goes through the arduous work of extracting thumbnails and rebuilding a cache.  Doesn't it just read the cache file on the DVD? Would be a hell of a lot quicker in giving me a view instead of waiting for the extracting routine.
    Am I missing something?
    Thoughts?

quicker in giving me a view instead of waiting for the extracting routine.
    Am I missing something?
Sadly enough you are not missing anything, cache has been a problem from day
one Bridge appeared. The theory you are mentioning is correct, in practice
it does not work. First there where different types of cache for different
versions of Bridge, so earlier saved cache was useless for newer versions.
Now the cache files are the same type but it does not seem to work
flawlessly for all kinds of workflow.
Your workflow with DNG and exported cache means very big hidden cache files
that still need to read its content when pointing at the devices in Bridge.
Specially when having DVD or CD it can take a long time.
I long time ago abandoned the export cache option (also have a very rare bug
that let's me only write a Cache T file without problems, the second times
it gives me a fault warning that it needs to be overwritten).
However, when you are using DNG files all the metadata and rating is kept
within the DNG file itself, your exported cache only contains the build
thumbs and previews (especially 100 % can take a lot of space and reading
    time).
Don't know how many times you have to use those files but you can consider
to use the prefer embedded preview method using the little checker board
icons top right in the Bridge Path Bar.
This lets you quickly show the content and when you need a better look you
can select the wanted file and let it build while pointing at. This is a
    quicker workflow to my opinion.
Downside is you have to reset the preview method to HQ when returning to
normal workflow with central cache. Having opened multiple windows in
Bridge, this setting affects all the open windows instead of only the active
    window.

  • Adobe Bridge cs5 cannot obtain files from this device.

I download photos to my computer using a Kingston downloading device.
Since installing Mavericks the above message comes up and will not carry out the download.
Is this a known problem with Mavericks and is there a remedy?
I would say that using the same device my photos download perfectly on my MacBook Pro.

    1. Adobe Bridge CS5.1 cannot obtain files from this device.
Please ensure that the device is connected properly and that the battery is charged and try again.
2.I also get a message telling me that the "disk was not ejected propery" which is not the case.

    Thanks Eric
The MacBook Pro is not running Mavericks and sorry about the double post.
I have actually solved the problem and the answer might be of use to others with the same problem.
There is a firmware update that will correct the problem.
    It's at
    http://www.kingston.com/en/support/technical/products?model=fcr-hs3
There is a small catch in  that the firmware update can only be done on a Windows machine but I have been told that once this is done it can be used with OSX9 .I have just done the download but  I haven't checked this out yet.

  • Bridge CS5.1 – Disappearing File Names (Now You Don't See It All)

Bridge CS5.1. Lion 10.7.2. 27" iMac native display at native resolution.
For some reason, in Lion (but not Snow Leopard) Bridge cuts-off the bottom line of long file names (see the screenshot). Irritating. Difficult if I'm trying to distinguish between ‘Long File Name (1)’ and ‘Long File Name (2)’ where the (1) and the (2) have partly disappeared off the bottom, hidden under the bottom scroll-bar.
It seems to be something to do with the window resizing as Bridge, whilst not adapting the size of the thumbnails to fit the window size, produces a scroll-bar instead (see bottom right hand corner of screenshot). This doesn't happen in Snow Leopard.
I've tried fiddling with all the parameters which could effect Bridge's window display, but to no avail.
You can add this to the the other display problem with Adobe Camera Raw (see previous postings). Nice if Adobe could fix this too.
Sorry, this screenshot is hopelessly and incomprehensibly small owing to Adobe’s image size upload restrictions – so you’ll have to trust me on the disappearing file names and the scroll-bar.

Well, gentleman (gentleman, I assume) your answers are of no real help to me unless you have Lion to test this on.  There is no relevant comparison to make since I have already established that this works correctly in Snow Leopard.
Yes, it is a man, I leave the qualification Gentle to you
I was more curious to the solutions you have done and when something does work on snow leopard and not in Lion will not automatically need to be qualified as a bug unless you tried different solutions.
Have you tried to delete the 'lastusedworkspace' file from the user library, resetting preferences and even deleted the plist file from the user library prefs?  And did you try the default film strip mode.  Or other default workspaces, is it only your own customized workspace that shows this behavior? What have you set as additional info lines in the Bridge prefs.
If it seems a bug you should report it as such at Adobe, this is still a user to user forum. But with Lion still in development and wide spread known as a bit buggy it might also be wise to throw the same bug report at Apple.

  • Bridge update does not fix caching problems.

    Dear Adobe,
The 5.0.1.23 update for Bridge CS6 does NOT fix the problem of constantly re-caching layered TIF files.
I originaly reported the problem here on May 16, 2012.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1007560
At that time I also submitted a bug report via photoshop.com, and received an e-mail response from Adobe support confirming the problem had been replicated in their lab and promising a fix in the next update.
I've since tracked several other reports of this bug and related cache problems.
I assume that, at best, we will have to wait another 6 months or more for the next update. How can I assure this bug will be addressed?

Thank you for this bit of information. Maybe it means I can stop the deactivations/uninstall/reinstall/reactivate cycle to try yet another solution. And hopefully, this will stop the re-caching problem with other than tif files.

  • Premiere CS4 - File Linking Problems

For some reason Premiere is mixing up my imported After Effects CS4 files.  For example, while Im working it will suddenly associate my After Effects file named "SceneA" with the file named "SceneB".  If I try importing "SceneB" again it brings in "SceneA" instead.  It will do this with several of my files and switch everything up.  Im only working with 4 After Effects files and am scared I'll have 20 or so files and it will start mixing those up, which will be a disaster.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

I import several files straight into after effects for editing (multi tga, jpeg, psd, etc), then import the AE file straight in PrPro for ading text and organizing.  To work around the problem I had to put each AE file into different folders to keep PrPrp from mixing them up.  Never had this problem with CS3, but doesnt sound like anyone else is experiencing this, which leads me to believe its something with my computer, I dont know.
I am running windows XP and have a second operating system (also windows XP) installed.  Had to work around a virus that took over my computer.  Could this be a contributing factor I wonder?  Would delete the 2nd operating system but it wont, so cant test that theory.

  • DW CS5 use ActionScript files without Flash

Our websites must avoid requiring a Flash download in the client browser.
Can we use Dreamweaver CS5 with ActionScript files (.as) without requiring Flash in a browser?
For example, DW CS5 menus include File -> New ... -> ActionScript,
but I cannot find literature or examples on using .as with Dreamweaver.
    thanks,
    Bruce

ActionScript is the backbone for Flash applications (FLV or SWF).
Unlike HTML & JavaScript, ActionScript is not a web programming language per se.  It is a Flash programming language.  And while some web devices support Flash many others do not.
If your site cannot use Flash then your ActionScript will need to be replaced with a suitable web alternative.  Perhaps jQuery or Ajax (JavaScript & CSS).

  • CS5 corrupts CS4 files

Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered but I cannot find it.
    I have CS5 updated to 11.0.2.489
When I open CS4 files, save them as CS5, close, open the CS5 file, some of the folders are corrupt.  This is not one file, this is all my files.  I also cannot copy from one fla into another.  The movie clip will come over but it will be empty.
I have seen the blog posts about how to fix a corrupted file, but it's indepth and time consuming.  I do not want to do this to hundreds of my files. Please advise on a fix.
    Thank you.

Found the case of this corruption.
It appears in CS5 that you can't name folder libraries the same way. In the past I've numbered off directories (1) or [1] Description.. something to that effect.  Those directories will in effect duplicate to a new gibberish named directory and the original will appear empty.  Because of this the stage will also appear empty.  Even creating a new folder in CS5 will the bad naming convention, then creating a new movie clip into that folder will imediatly cause a duplicate object conflict.
I'm not sure if it's the { ( or space...I'm just seating away from that naming all together.
    but:
    1_Folder
    Works just fine.

  • Bridge CS5 corrupts CR2 files when extracting thumbnails (Win8.1 64bit)

I'm using Design Premium CS5 on two computers -  Lenovo T510 with Windows 7 (64 bit) and a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro with Windows 8.1 (64 bit).  Everything works fine on the Win 7 machine.  On the Yoga, if I download Raw files, they look fine until Bridge begins extracting thumbnails.  Once that process begins, most of the files are corrupted, becoming bands and boxes of color:
I tried updating the software, reinstalling, and opening the files in Camera Raw and Photoshop.  Nothing seems to change the outcome.  I continue to be able to use the Win 7 machine with no problems.  I intended the Yoga to be my travel computer for trips in which photography will be the main focus.  Given this problem, I only see two solutions unless I'm able to fix it.  One is to carry either only the Win 7 computer or both computers.  The other is to not open the files into Bridge and take it on faith that the photos were successfully downloaded before formatting my media.  Neither of those solutions is very satisfactory.  I hope someone out there can help me find a solution that will make the Yoga work as I had hoped.  FYI, JPEGs work fine.  I suppose that would be another solution: only shoot in JPEG.

    Smash87,
Thanks for your reply and suggestion.
I have already tried what you suggested but it didn't work at first. I will try it again just to see if it works this time but to be frank I don't expect it will.
Another problem is the fact that I didn't have this issue with CS4 which is the version you are using. The problem appeared once I switched to CS5. The fact that your issue was resolved in CS4 is no guarantee the same will happen to CS5. In fact, it is almost a given it will not considering Adobe's track record with Bridge. Every new version of Bridge brings along with it a new set of problems and challenges. I am really getting tired of it. Now please keep in mind that my collection of images includes a few thousands of folders each containing anywhere between 200 and 1000 images. Adobe shouldn't have to force a customer to have to purge the cache and rebuild all previews when this customer (as it is my case) has thousands of folders and/or images. This is just insane.
They really need to get this application working right. One would imagine that it would have happened by now since they have already had 5 versions of this application to do it plus the file browser application experience before Bridge was formally introduced. So, what is happening Adobe ???
Thanks again for your help and suggestion.

  • Bridge CS5 thinks mpg files are audio-only

    CS5 Production Premium.
But when I installed I wasn't sure this was going to be the "final home", so I decided to install as a trial with the intent to either move/reinstall later, or just plug in the serial number.
As a "trial", I quickly discovered that none of the apps recognized MPEG-2 files correctly. Yes, I failed to note that in the readme, but once I encounterer the problem I knew what was wrong.
Added the serial number, and as I restarted the various apps most of them noted the missing codecs and installed them for me. So now, all of the apps properly recognize .mpg files.
Except Bridge. No matter what I do, Bridge still thinks all the .mpg files are audio only. The main list shows the thumbnail as expected, but Preview thinks it's an audio file and only plays the audio.
This is not a critical thing, because I don't really use Bridge much for my video files. But short of reinstalling, is there some way to perhaps "nudge" Bridge into properly recognizing the .mpg?
    Brad.

I am having the same problem. Installed purchased copy of Premiere Pro. Did not do trial first.
Any ideas or is this a bug?

  • CS5 to CS4 file opening

I am trying to share a file with my client - I've got a PC CS5 and he's got a MacCS4.  He's having all kinds of missing plugin problems.  Is there a way for me to save it as a "legacy" file like we used to do in other upgrades?
Also, what the heck happened to the free transform tool????
    Thanks, ttt

You should be working in CS4 if that's what the client needs and from the tone of your post I'm guessing you have it.
Absent that export to IDML and send that. You should also send a PDF so the client can see what the layout is supposed to look like.
    Free transform tool still exists.

  • CS4 File Printing Problem

After recently experiencing a transient power outage I am having a problem printing a particular file from Photoshop CS4. The system seems to have recovered well from the electrical outage, with one exception. When I try to print a particualr file that I had been working on, I get the foillowing message.
The Vista-64 operating system recognizes the installed printers (two), my other apps have no problem printing to the default printer and opening a few other Photoshop files does not produce the same problem. In other words, the problem seems file specific. The question is how do I remedy the problem with this important file ?  Duplicating its many layers in a new file does not solve the problem.

Yes, I have rebooted and everyting else on the computer is happy with the printer setup. I've also reset PS preferences. It seems to be a file problem.
No PS print window opens-  After the error mesage window is dismissed I am back in editing mode for the file.
I think I am going to have to create a new document and drag all the layers from the subject file into the new file and hope that clears up the problem. As I mentioned, selecting all the layers and using the Duplicate Layers command to a new file did not solve the problem.
    Paulo
PS - update: I Created a new file, dragged all the layers from the problem file to the new file and the printing problem disappeared. Do not understand it, but when dealing with a probably corrupted file understanding is a stretch.
