Bridge CS6 - Smart Collections Different Result Everytime

I recently was using a Smart Collection to review selects and I would come up with different results as I openend and closed folders that were a part of Smart Collection file base. Its as if my files hadn't been correctlty indexed or were not being indexed until I opened a folder and selected a file to view.
Is there a way to make sure my files are being indexed or is reseting the Prefs the only way to do this?

You can either visit each folder and wait until the spinning arrow is finished indexing, which takes awhile.
Another way is to do a search at the start of the directory (it searches down) and check include non-indexed files.  You can see what folder it is on in the lower left corner.  THis will take awhile also, but you can do the search when you are not using the computer and just let it run.  If you have to stop it before it is done, note where it is at and then start search there next time.

  • CS6 smart collections quit working

Bridge CS6 smart collections worked last week, but this week are empty.  I've verified that there *are* still files/photos which should match the criteria.  Troubleshooting didn't help (see screen shot); both "include" boxes are checked; and newly-created smart collections don't work either.  Why?
I'm using CS6 Extended (64 bit) running on Win 7 64-bit, both with all applicable updates.  The only thing which I know changed is that Microsoft released a few Windows updates.

Curt:  Thanks very much for your reply.  I hadn’t tried that exact route, but I had tried Edit > Preferences > Cache > Purge cache.  No success.
Omke:  Yes, they sure were present (and are still).
The winning reply –  from NAPP’s Peter Bauer via its 1-on-1 help desk for members (you too can join, and membership rocks!) – was the following procedure.  It worked like a charm.
Gentlemen, my sincere thanks for your considered replies.  I really appreciate them.
    - doug
Peter Bauer @ the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) had the winning solution:
    --Open Bridge.
--Use the Keywords panel menu command Export to save your keywords (not in the Bridge or Photoshop folders or their support folders).
    --Quit Bridge.
--Position your fingers over the Control-Alt-Shift keys.
--Launch Bridge from the Start menu.
--Immediately after launching Bridge (not before) press and hold down the three keys.
--When the small dialog box appears, release the keys and elect to replace the Preferences and purge the Cache.

  • Adobe Bridge CC Smart Collections are not displaying all images in the folder

I'm having an issue with Bridge CC were I setup a smart collection to monitor my new photos. The folder contains over 300 photos, but is only displaying 160. The only condition I set is to have a minium file size of 10kb, so it should bring in all files since most are over 4mb. At first I thought it was a problem with the files themselves (permissions or something) but if I open the folder in bridge it easily displays all of the images easily. Any ideas?

I'm having an issue with Bridge CC were I setup a smart collection to monitor my new photos.
You might want to describe this workflow a bit more. Do you create this from an existing folder or are you adding new photo's?
A Smart Collection does not refreshes it self automatically. You either have to use the edit icon top right of the content panel to save again or deselect and select the collection itself to let it refresh the content.

  • Smart collections - different from 3.4 and 5.3?

    Hello,
This is really simple, I used to be able to select a folder (say, all images in 2013) and then control click a smart collection I had created (rated > 1 star) and that would filter my images from 2013 and only display the ones that were rated higher then one star.
Odly, I cannot seem to get this to work in 5.3 (win7 pc fwiw).  When I do this, it shows images that aren't from 2013 (the folder I selected).  Can anyone explain or enlighten me as to what is going on?
To be clear, I expect to see images from 2013 that are rated > 1 star.  If I select a folder with a single unrated image and then control click a "> 1 star" smart collection, it shows the image still.  It doesn't seem to filter, it's showing both the contents of the smart collection and my one image.
Any help is greatly appreciated, this is starting to annoy me as this worked in 3.4 and it's something I thought was very useful and intuitive.
    Thanks so much!

Adobe changed the behavior in LR 4.  Here's what employee Benjamin Warde said about the change:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/multi_selecting_smart_collections_an d_folders_in_library_module_has_changed_for_the_worse
In Lightroom 3, multi-selecting various folders and collections would sometimes show the union, and sometimes show the intersection. The inconsistencies in the behavior were confusing to a lot of people, and caused various problems as well. In Lightroom 4, all such multi-selects now show the union. We certainly recognize that any change (even an ostensible bug fix) can potentially be detrimental to certain workflows, and we appreciate getting this feedback. In the case of the particular use cases described in this thread, it should be fairly easy to do what you want to do using Filters.
That thread has a lot discussion about which behavior was preferrable.   Here's how LR 4 and later behave:
    - Selecting multiple sources (folders, collections, smart collections, publish collections) in the left-hand panel unions them (combines them).
    - Filters in the Library Filter Bar intersect with (restrict) the selected sources.
    - In the Library Filter Bar, in general, different criteria intersect with each other.
    - An exception to the previous rule: Selecting multiple items in a column in the Metadata browser unions them, while multiple columns intersect.  E.g. selecting two keywords from the same Keyword column filters for photos that have either keyword assigned; adding a Camera column and selecting a particular camera filters for photos taken with that camera and have either keyword assigned.
For many common use cases, including yours, using the Library Filter Bar instead of smart collections can solve your issue.   E.g. select the desired folder and in the Library Filter Bar, add a Label column in the Metadata browser and select the label Blue.  Save those filter settings as a preset to make it more convenient to recall them.
Filters don't have the full search capabilities that smart collections do -- they're missing criteria and comparison operators and you can't form full boolean expressions. When you need those extra search capabilities to intersect with sources, workarounds include:
    - See Dorin Nicolaescu-Musteață's post in the thread referenced above for a multi-step method that gets the job done with many more clicks.
    - Use the Any Filter plugin.

  • Can't choose cache folder in Bridge CS6 on a different drive/partition

    Hi,
I just installed Photoshop CS6 and noticed a non-critical, but nevertheless annoying problem in Bridge (Platform: Win7 x64):
When I try to relocate the cache folder (Menu: Edit -> Preferences -> Cache -> Location, then pressing the button "Choose"), the path selection dialog that pops up is actually incomplete.
That is, it doesn't show all my drives. In fact, it doesn't show ANY paritions. It just defaults to the usual user home directory (on partition C: ), but won't show (and hence: won't let me select) any other partition. To be more precise: The root folder of the tree shown is the "Desktop" folder in my user home directory - and that's all there is.
Since there is no field were I could enter (type) the path directly, I'm basically stuck with having my cache on C: now. Which isn't the place where I want it. (I have not enough disk space there)
    For comparison:
In Bridge CS5, the same dialog is working as expected: I.e. when I scroll down, I can also see other partitions, and choose a path somewhere on, say, drive F:
BTW: I also noticed this same behaviour with the CS6 beta, but wasn't concerned then, because - well... it was just a beta, and I thought that somehting as obvious as this would be fixed by the time the final version comes out... :-/
Is there any other way to set the cache path?
Should I file a bug report?
Before someone asks: Yes, I deinstalled the beta before installing the final PS CS6, and yes, everything else seems to work as it should.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
    Regards,
    Manuel
P.S.: If needed, I can supply screenshots of the dialog in question.

Thanks for your continuing suggestions, Curt,
The date of the document you included is 2006, so it is way out of date.
    Mmmh, I can only see:
    /Last updated
    2011-06-30/
While that's not brand new (and doesn't explicitely mention CS6), it's
significantly newer than 2006 and it's the exact same page that comes up
when you open Bridge's help window and search for "reset". Other pages like
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2009/10/resetting_bridges_preferences.html
    and
    http://planetphotoshop.com/resetting-bridges-preferences.html
also concur that it's CTRL-ALT-SHIFT - which is what I used to
    successfully reset the settings.
But let's stop talking about what's the proper way to reset Bridge's
preferences and get back to the actual topic:
In preferences/startup scripts do you have checks for at least Bridge
    and Photoshop?
I just had a look, and every startup script is checked (including the
    ones for Bridge and Photoshop)
    Regards,
    Manuel

  • How do I get Bridge CS6 to recognize collections created in Bridge CS4?

I just downloaded Photoshop CS6 beta. When I opened Bridge CS6, my collections (created in Bridge CS4) were not visible. Is there a way to import the collections into CS6?

Hello, on collections can be found on:
    MAC: user/library/application/support/Adobe/Bridge (CS4 - CS5)/collections
    WIN: it should be [osdisk]:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS4 -5)\collections
You could try to import them to the same folder for CS6.

  • Bridge CC cache not compatible with bridge CS6

Starting the Photoshop CC adventure. First install was Bridge. First test was to see if the Bridge CC cache is compatible with Bridge CS6 cache. First result is NO.
      Test method:
      1. Set the Bridge CC cache location to the same folder I use for CS6, which contains 10+ gigs of thumbs for my library.
      2. Navigated Bridge CC to a sub-folder with about 30 images, see Bridge CC re-do the thumb extractions.
      3. Close Bridge CC, launch Bridge CS6, navigate to the same sub-folder, see Bridge CS6 re-do the thumb extractions.
      4. Close Bridge CS6, launch Bridge CC, still pointing to the same sub-folder, see it re-do thumb extractions again.
      5. Repeat steps 3&4, always with same result, a redundant re-generation of thumbs.
      Conclusion:
The actual thumbnail files in the cache are the same. But something happens in the index files (data/store) to make each version think it does not have thumbnails, so it re-generates them. IOW, when Bridge CC looks at the cache last used by Bridge CS6 it says "I have not been here, must re-cache", and visa-versa.
      Solution:
Must let Bridge CC have its own separate cache, so the two versions don't walk over each other. Must let Bridge CC re-cache everything, which for me (and most users I assume) will be a long and time consuming process.
Not much surprise here. The same was true for CS5 vs. CS6.

Not much surprise here. The same was true for CS5 vs. CS6.
Then it also should not be a surprise for you that this behavior already started in the Filebrowser (Bridge predecessor that came with CS1 and by far the most stable and fast cache ever in the history of Bridge) and has not changed since. Nor is it likely it will chance in the future.
Hence my advice to not use Bridge for long term DAM because you need to recache the lot every new version...

  • Reading Advanced Metadata in Smart Collections, not working in Bridge CS6

In Bridge CS5 you could make an Smart collection that were looking for: All metadata > contains > "here we add a value from a metadata only visible from the Advanced tab in File info"
But this nolonger works in CS6.
Although I can go to File info and see the metadata value that are visible from Advanced. But the option All metadata, clearly doesn't support the advanced metadata in the file in CS6.
Could this be a bug in CS6?

If any one like to try this yourself and get same or other result, please let me know!
Otherwise this must be a bug to report to Adobe.
I don't have CS5 installed anymore but CS6 is still present while I use Bridge CC for my daily workflow (MacPro MacOSX 10.8.5).
I first copied 4 DNG files from my main folder to a subfolder. Those files I added a name to the IPTC extension persons name and saved.
Checked and this name shows in the IPTC extension persons name field in Metadata panel as well as in Advanced Tab in File Info IPTC Extended Properties / IPTC4xmpExt:PersonInImage(Bag container).
I closed the subfolder and used the smart collection icon to bring up the Find window.
I then selected All metadata and filled in the persons name, had subfolders and non indexed already included and put the source field to the main DNG folder.
The result was almost instant with the 4 files showing.
I then quitted Bridge CC and started Bridge CS6
Since I had not used this for a while and my main folder contained 4500 DNG I set the cache quality icon to embedded only. Selected the same folder and followed the same procedure as in CC.
Naturally it took a bit longer because the files needed to be indexed first, yet after this the result was still the same, the 4 DNG files with the persons name showed in the smart collection.
So on my behalf I can't reproduce your problem and for me it is not a bug also I'm afraid.

  • Sorting compressed from uncompressed PSD/PSB files in Bridge/smart collections?

Is there any info (metadata or something) one could use to sort uncompressed from compressed PSD/PSB files in Bridge?
Something that could be used in filters for smart collections would be nice.
    Ty in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply, CP
FYI, the file is a photographic panorama based on several .CR2 photos taken in July, 2012 and processed in CS5's camera RAW/Photoshop.  Beyond the metadata, here are no fonts or text in the file.
    1.  I changed Maximize ...File Capability from "Never" to "Always" and the flattened file saved and loaded OK, though I can't figure why given Adobe's description of this option. "If you work with PSD and PSB files in older versions of Photoshop or applications that don’t support layers, you can add a flattened version of the image to the saved file...".  The file saved in this manner is ~8% larger and is not my preference as a routine since I've TB's of photo files.  By the way, out of thousands of .psd/.psb files, the one being discussed is the first to give me the error.
    2.  I've tried saving/reloading the file on another computer with Win XP Sp3/CS5...again with Maximize Capability OFF.  Same problem.  Turn ON Maximize Capability and it works.  As with the Win 8 machine, Bridge could neither create a thumbnail or read Metadata.
    3.  I've purged the Bridge Cache, made sure there were no old PS page files, reset PS preferences, and disabled my 2 plugins with no change in the problem.  Windows and Adobe progs are all updated.  Saving to a different HDD has no effect.
The problem occurs on 2 computers (Win XP/Win 8), two versioins of Photoshop (CS5/CS6), and "Maximize" On/Off togles the problem.  My guess it is a bug in PSD processing routines.
If I can't find a fix, will keep with Maximize ON and deal with the larger files that result...the cost of insurance, I suppose.
    Thanks again

  • Adobe Bridge CC (Mac) isn't showing collections generated in Bridge CS6

Opening Adobe Bridge CC doesn't show the collections I generated in Adobe Bridge CS6. Both versions of Bridge are on the same Mac and opened within the same User account (of the operating system). In Bridge CS6 (which seems to not open while running Bridge CC) still shows the collections and smart collections.
    Question:
Is there any way to import these collections or is there another way to show those collections in Bridge CC?

Is there any way to import these collections or is there another way to show those collections in Bridge CC?
Collections are version and user specific. If you want them also in CC you have to copy the collection files manually from CS6 to CC
Open two windows in your finder. Go to the user library (per OSX10.7 hidden by default, use menu Go with option to reveal) and follow this path:
user (your username)/ Library/ Application Support / Adobe/ Bridge CS6 / Collections. inhere should be some files with your saved collection names and the extension .filelist
Copy these to the same location but now instead of CS6 CC.
This should make you collections also available in Bridge CC after restarting it.
Be careful to depend on collections, they are not all that reliable for the long run. If you have put a lot of work in one collection then select all and add the name of the collection also as a keyword to the files itself, this way you have a good back up when things go wrong

  • How To import collections from Bridge cs6 To Bridge CC

How To import collection from Bridge cs6 To Bridge CC??
    thx

How To import collection from Bridge cs6 To Bridge CC??
A collection is a bunch of aliases to the original files in their original place. If you have upgraded to CC on the same machine you can use the same collection, on a different machine it will possible not find the correct location again.
On a Mac the path for the saved collections is : User / library/ application Support / Adobe/ BridgeCS6 / collections. Inhere are the saved collections showing the names you gave them. You can copy these collection files to the same location in Bridge CC.
If you have a different machine you best first choose the collection and add a keyword with the name of the collection to all the files in this particular collection so you can use the find command to easily recreate the collection on your new machine.
Maybe someone with more knowledge of Windows can show you the correct path but it should be something similar as on a Mac.

  • Unable to Create Smart Collection in Bridge CC

I've recently ungraded to Bridge CC, and one of the first things I wanted to get set up again are my smart collections. When I click the "new smart collection" icon the dialog box appears, I specify the type of folder I want to create (exactly how I have done hundreds of times before in CS6) and then I hit "Save" and nothing happens? It shows an active blue "save" button, but when I hit save nothing happens? Anyone else experience anything like this?

I just found an article to which you had replied Jim.
Your comment leads me to believe that my assumption was correct ... if the NAS is connected (original images) then the histogram in the Develop Module should show "Original+Smart Previews".

  • Can't view smart collections on a different computer

I've generated about a dozen smart collections from photos on an external drive. This was done on my laptop.
When I try to view the smart collections with the drive mounted to my desktop, I get the error message "collection target folder cannot be found". Sometimes it will say to purge the cache, which I've done several times, but to no avail. I realize the smart collection data is on the laptop's hard drive. Is there a way to put it on the same drive as the photos?
When I go back to the laptop, everything's fine again. Is there a way to view the collections on both computers?

Is there a way to view the collections on both computers?
I'm not sure but I think this is possible. Bridge is very user specific and a collection and a smart collection is nothing but a bunch of aliases. While the files are on the same disk the other end is different.
You might copy the collection file itself (on a Mac: user library / application support / Adobe/ Bridge CSxx / collections to the other system in the same location but besides I still don't know if this would work it is also a bit of a PITA to keep searching and copying those files.
My workflow would be to create new folders on the external disk and select the collection in the content window. Then use select all and copy (or move, whatever workflow suites you) the files to those new location. Those new folders could be selected in both machines. Not ideal but for the moment I can't think of anything better

  • Bridge CS5 won't let me create Smart Collection

    Hi all -
I am working with CS5 on a PC (Windows 7 Professional/64-bit) and Bridge will not allow me to create a Smart Collection. We want to use Bridge to sort graphics based on the type of graphic they are. We added keywords to the files and can use the filter to sort, but it would be nice if anytime a "timeline" keyworded graphic was added to the folder that it was added to that collection.
I go to the Collections panel, and click on the "Smart Collections" button, fill in my criteria, but when I hit Save nothing happens. All I can do is cancel out of the window. I have tried it on a couple different computers in my office and they all have the same issue. Same thing occurs if I do a search and try to hit the Smart Collection button there, nothing happens. It rolls over, but no action occurs when I click on it. Am I missing something here?

Have all of your Folders been properly Indexed in Bridge?
    Select the Parent Folder which holds image files on each of your HDs;
Go to Tools / Cache / Build and Export Cache . . . Export Cache to Folders; and check the box to Export Cache to Folders.
This operation may take quite a long time (you might choose to leave it running over-night) but once done, I think that you will find that making Smart Collections from Keywords works really quickly -- even when files are scattered in multiple folders over many different HDs.

  • Bridge Smart Collection Error

I am running Bridge on a Mac and am having an issue in creating smart collections. My image files keyworded in metadata. When I attempt to create a Smart Collection by searching in a folder by the keyword (for example) tree, the smart collection does not find all the images with the keyword tree. I am including all subfolders and non indexed files in the search. Any help would be appreciated.

I am having the same issue with the Find (Cmd+F) function.
Do you mean the find function in Bridge or using Finder?
To search for files with a certain keyword you best use the find command in Bridge. Besides having included subfolders and non indexed file make sure your source is the main folder where all the subfolders and files you are looking for are saved.
Also check the criteria settings.  For keywords best choose the keywords in the first field and 'contains ' in the second field, use the plus sign to add an other keyword to the list if you want to search for multiple keywords
Under results set Match to if any criteria are met. If you have set this to if all criteria are met it only shows the files containing all the searched keywords which also can narrow the search down.
And check if you have read and write permission for the disk the files are on.
