Bridge Deleting Folders on Our Server

Twice now here at work,
2 different people were trying to make a shortcut in their 'favorites' panel in Bridge,
and the folder itself has disappeared COMPLETELY...
luckily our server is backed up nightly,
so not much was lost (except that morning's work), but still, how is this happening?
In the first instance,
the person was dragging the folder from a 'finder' window into 'favorites' and it just disappeared,
the second instance was being done directly in Bridge and the same thing happened...
This is more than a little scary, and have never had this problem before and now it's happened twice in a month...
We're all on iMacs (10.6 and up) and using CS 5....
H E L P!
Thanks

Bridge seems to literally be deleting the folder from our server somehow when trying to make a shortcut in the favorites panel...
First of all, Bridge is not designed to work over a network configuration, nor does Adobe support this use. Creating a favorite of a folder is nothing else then creating an alias for this folder so their should be no reason to delete it at all.
But all things that you change in Bridge are user related and the info is stored somewhere in the user library (not everything is easy to find but if you preview a file the cache for it builds in the Cache folder which is by default in the user library in the user account itself. If you work on other accounts over a network their might get confusion of which info to store where. I find it hard to believe Bridge deletes folders completely by creating an alias but I also have no experience with network environment.
So if you would like to use a Digital Asset Management and you want to use Bridge for it you should threat it with great care and much discipline for all users.
Check this blog, this guy did achieve a network based environment.
But to be honest, you better look for a dedicated network DAM application that is designed for this task. And if you need the powers of Bridge you best do so in user based situations.

  • Sidebar Favorites that point to folders on our server

We have two people using Lion now on MacBook Pros...
Both users had several favorites that pointed to folders on our server.  The favorites do nothing.  However, if you "re-add" a folder that is located on the server then all the favorites start working again.  If you add any folder that is located on the server then all the favorites that pointed to folders on our server they all start working again.
The next day, the problem starts all over again.  Favorites stop working, "re-add" a folder from the server and the favorites start working again.
Any thoughts on how to permanently fix this?
    Jessica

I have the same problem, and I've posted my experience here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17198655#17198655
A temporary fix is to relaunch the Finder (option + right click on Finder icon in Dock, select Relaunch) but applications that are running and are used to grab files using those very same Sidebar favorites might adjust to the Finder being relaunched.
That happened to me when I was trying to grab an attachment from the server using Outlook for Mac 2011. I had to restart Outlook to recognize the Finder changes.

  • S-1-1-0 Error when trying to delete folders on an NCP Server

    Hello:
There are a couple of TIDS that point to this issue.
The TID that references Windows 7 says "reported to Engineering"
    Problem:
On trying to delete folders on an NCP Server (does not matter if you are admin or any other user) from a WIn 7 Client you get an error message about needing permission from S-1-1-0 in order to make changes to this folder.
Seems to have been an issue with both XP and WIn 7 at one time but may have been resolved in XP.
S-1-1-0 is the MS SID associated with the group Everyone which prior to XPSP2 included "anonymous" users.
I am assuming that Win 7 follows the behaviour of post XP SP2 in not recognizing "anonymous" users as being members of Everyone thus the error message.
Does anyone have the correct technical explanation for this problem. ?
Renaming the folders allows you to delete them which makes me suspect that renaming alters a SID somewhere.

In our case we are using Client 2 SP2, so it looks like the "bugcat" came back.
In fiddlying with it we have found that renaming a folder and all its sub folders that you may want to delete allows you to do so.

There was a long standing problem with the Novell Client for Windows 7
that wouldn't allow you to delete files which were read-only. An
example would be some of the files located in a Windows roaming profile
stored in a user's home directly on an OES2 server. The XP client
would pop up a message asking if you wanted to do this, whereas on
Windows 7 you could get the error about needing permission. Deleting
from a command prompt worked ok.
Fixes have gone into the latest Novell Client which should address
this. Please make sure you are using Client 2 SP2.
    We're your Novell--again. re: focus

  • How do you delete folders within collections in mini bridge?

How do you delete folders within collections in mini bridge?

his chapter on Mini Bridge where he talks about organizing your photos getting rid of some and making a folder or file sorry not certain of the terminology under Collections in mini bridge to acess your "keepers" perse.
Not familiar with this book but if Scott is talking about using mini bridge for sorting images he is way out of line. Mini Bridge (to my opinion next to useless since they screwed it up for CS6 but that is another discussion) should be seen as a shortcut to Bridge itself when working in Photoshop on complex tasks of image or album compilation and prevent you from switching back and forward between the two applications while working on a project.
Unfortunately some people thought that it might be useful to add more functions to it and now users start believing they don't need bridge itself for this.
Please use Bridge itself for sorting etc and also try to get hold of a copy of 'Real World Camera Raw' written by Bruce Fraser and Jeff Schewe. They have an edition for about all CS versions and this book will let you know how to really use the power of Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw

  • Problems syncing Iphone with Public folders in exchange on our server?

We have downloaded and installed the latest version of Itunes. We have our calendars as public folders on our office exchange server. When we go to set up the sync, under calendars the first time we open it up, it shows a list of our public calendar folders but they are all greyed out and only gives us the option of "calendar". Once we sync as a test to see what happens, the list of our public folder calendars no longer appears. What do we need to do, to sync our Iphone, using Itunes, with the public calendar folder on our server. I know it sees them because of the initial list. But I can not get the phone to sync to a public calendar. Any helpful suggestions?

Tried that, I get the following when I go to the Public Folder Management Console:
Cannot complete the operation because there isn't an available public folder database on server
And even if I did that how does that help me retrieve my missing information?

  • Some idiot made an illegal folder name in mail.app on our server...

    Hi.
Some one in our office accidently created some mail folders on our OSX 10.9 server that contains illegal characters.
And now we can't remove/change/rename/move or do anything with them.
    The log says thing like
    2014-01-10 18:17:13,045 Mail[1049]: Failed to decode the IMAP mailbox name VV13 342 S Boden  Vittja&Awg-rv resturang
    6 530 x 2 050 bredd * h&APY-jd mm (BxH)
    VV13 342 S Boden S Vittja&Awg-rv resturang
    Mail.app says:
IMAP-kommandot ”DELETE” failes with server error: Error in IMAP command DELETE: Missing '"'.
Example of one of the folder names:
    VV13 342 S Boden  Vittja&Awg-rv resturang
    6 530 x 2 050 bredd * h&APY-jd mm (BxH)
    VV13 342 S Boden S Vittja&Awg-rv resturang
I have no ide how they managed to create it since it should be impossibe. But they did 3 folder with this type of names.. How the heck do I remove them? I would need to find the folder in terminal and then remove it manually. But I cant figure out how to identify the folder in OSX server 10.9.
    any ideas?
    thanks

    Get your mailstore path with
    sudo serveradmin settings mail:imap:partition-default
You can go ahead and remove or rename the bad folders.. it won't bother dovecot at all.
    Note:
All imap start with a dot "." , so they are invisible normally.
Subfodlers are separeted with a dot, so you might have
    .2014
    .2014.Dec
    .2014.Nov
In this case, 2014 is a folder, then Dec and Nov are subfolders.
If you rename the folder, make sure it starts with a dot.

  • Files on our server disappeared after CC install

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to retrieve two folders that were deleted from our server after I installed full Creative Could suite on the iMac I use (designer) and InCopy on four editor computers (two PCs, two iMacs). The Macs are running Yosemite and the PCs Windows 7.
I now see from the discussion boards that this has happened in the past, but I hope to find out...
    1. Is there a way to recover the files via Adobe?
    2. How can I make sure this doesn't happen again?
The folders in question were named "Admin" and "Archives," so I suspect the problem was that Adobe had a conflict with the directory names. But since Admin stored our contracts and Archives had the past 5 years of our publication draft files, this is a big deal. (And wouldn't you know we discovered this morning that our backup had been failing for the past 2 weeks but no one told us. Grrr!)
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

So embarrassed. Talked to Adobe support on the phone and then to our staff. It seems someone here DID get several pop-ups asking if it was okay to delete those folders and she assumed she should say Yes. At least the missing files affect her more than the rest of us... Needless to say, I have now turned off the file sync preference on everyone's computer!

  • Making NTFS permissions read/write without ability to create/delete folders

Out at one of our job sites we have a server running Windows Server 2012 R2 that's got a file share accessible to our onsite people. Our project managers have devised a very strict folder structure for this file share, and for auditing purposes they want
to stick as close to this structure as possible.
Therefore, although people onsite must have read/write access to create, modify and delete files, they do not want them to be able to create or delete folders. They want them to use the existing folders and not tuck stuff away into folders that no one knows
exists except the person who created them.
The closest way I've found to do this is to deselect the advanced permissions 'Create folders / append data' and 'Delete subfolders and files.' This has a few side effects however, the most noticeable being that due to not being able to append data to files,
certain files (such as CAD drawings) can't be edited by anyone except the person who created them.
Is there a way using just NTFS permissions to accomplish what the project managers want? And if not, are there any useful third-party utilities that will help us do this?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi,
I'm not much familiar with AutoCAD- what's the exact behavior which is stopped by the restricted folder permission?
For example, if AutoCAD will create a folder in editing, we will not have a solution as users needed to create folders so that AutoCAD could run properly.
And if AutoCAD works like Office files, that create a temp file for editing, this will be the solution:
    1. Give Domain Admins - Full Control - This folder, subfolders and files.
This is to allow all admin could access and edit all data.
    2. Give SpecificUsers group (a group contain all normal users) - Full Control without "Change permissions" and "Take Ownership" -
    Files Only.
This is to give that group most permissions to create, edit and delete files but not Folders.
    3. Give SpecificUsers group another permission:
    Traverse folder
    List FOlder
    Read Attributes
    Read extended attributes
Create files - this is important. Without this permission you will not able to save Office files.
    Read permissions.
Give above permissions to "This Folder, subfolders and files".
This is to allow users to access all subfolders.

  • How to get folders from your server using IMAP and push, 3G.

After looking all over this forum looking for an answer, I found out on my own. here's how:
Step 1: Login to your email server.
    - If you can, log into your email server via webmail. This ensures that you are in fact connected to your email server and your folders are being created. If your email server doesn't have webmail, then create the folders using whatever email app you have on your PC or Mac.
    Step 2: Creating the folders.
    - All the folders you want to have show up on your iphone must be created as sub-folders under your Inbox folder on the server. Here's what mine looks like for example.
    Mailbox
    -Inbox
    ++-Sent Messages
    ++-Deleted Messages
    ++-Friends
    ++-Work
    ++-Others
    -Drafts
    -Sent
    -Deleted
    -Junk Email
*you may be wondering why I have 2 sent and Deleted folders. I have it set up so that the folders in the inbox are for the iphone, and the ones outside are from Outlook.
Step 3: Getting the folders to show up on the iphone.
    - Once you set up your IMAP account on the iphone 3g, simply log into the account, wait for it to finish checking for emails, then tap the Inbox button. Give it a few seconds to load if it's loading something. After it finishes, back out by tapping the 'Mailboxes' in the top-left corner, and your folders should be there.

So you'd use Java to send the WebDAV protocol. Since this is a Java forum, it would help if you provided the WebDAV part of the equation and we can help with the Java part. Okay? Let us know when you have the WebDAV information.

  • IPad not using Sent, Trash folders of IMAP server

The iPad 1 is running iOS 5.1.1.  I have created an IMAP mail account and in Mailbox Behaviors have mapped Drafts on the iPad to Entwürfe on the server, Sent on the iPad to Gesendete Objekte on the server, and Deleted on the iPad to Papierkorb on the server.  When I send mail from this account it does not appear in Sent.  Using a Web mail client I can verify that it does not appear in Gesendete Objekte either.  I have the same problem when I delete mail from this account on the iPad:  the mail does not appear in Trash (on the iPad) or Papierkorb (on the server).
I have setup the account on an iPhone 4S, and the same problems occur there.  On an MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.4 I have also setup an IMAP account for the same server and have performed tha same mapping of the Mail folders to the server's.  There, everything works as expected.  When I send a mail from that account on the Mac, it appears in Sent, Gesendete Objekte and in Sent on the iPad and iPhone.  Similarly, when a mail is deleted from the account on the Mac, it appears in Trash, Papierkorb, and Trash on the two iOS devices.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem?  It's almost as if there's option missing in iOS 5 to "save on server"; they're there in Mail on the Mac.
    Regards,
    Richard

OK, I have found the problem.  One of the mail accounts, for vtx.ch (formerly tiscali.ch), was configured to get mail from vtx's POP server, but to send it from my domain's SMTP server.  For some reason, mail that was sent from my domain's mail server was being put in the local Sent folder of the vtx account.  The same was true of Trash, Junk, and Drafts.  I was able to fix this by deleting the vtx POP account and creating an IMAP account instead.  I could map the folders of the vtx IMAP server to the right ones on the iPad and specify my domain's SMTP server for outgoing mail.  Everything now works as expected.  In particular, if I forward a mail from the vtx Inbox, it is sent using my domain's SMTP server, but appears in the Sent folder of the vtx account, while doing the same thing with a mail in the Inbox of the account corresponding to my domain's email server causes the mail to appear in its Sent folder.
I suspect this is a bug due to an oversight on Apple's part, as usually every email service has its own servers.  The vtx SMTP server doesn't allow me to send mail from outside the vtx domain, i.e., I can only send mail from its Webmail interface using vtx's SMTP server.  That's why I have to use another SMTP server to send from outside vtx.
    Regards,
    Richard

  • How to delete messages from IMAP server but keep on computer???

    Hi
I am using Mail to receive my email messages from the University's IMAP server. My problem is that I need to keep copies of my sent and received emails for archives on my computer but not on the server because space is limited. However, when I check the 'remove messages from server' box in the preferences, it also removes them all from my Mail inbox and sent mail folders. Consequently, I'm constantly needing to go to the server (once a week) and manually delete the messages when my folder is too full and then I lose all of my messages.
Can someone please tell me how I can keep all of my sent, received and trashed emails on my computer without them being stored on the server?
    thanks
    adam

Eric is right. An IMAP account is designed specifically to keep email on line, on a server somewhere on the planet. That way you can use any machine anywhere and see your email. A POP account is designed to actually download your email to the specific machine that you are using and remove it from the server. Although there are ways around that...
So if you want to keep an email on your computer and you want to delete it from the server, you have to make an "On my Mac" mailbox.

  • Empty folders on remote server after synchronization

I am trying to set up a working environment for a very large web site and to get to the point of my post...
Whenever I try and synchronize my FTP with my local copy, I am selecting "Delete remote files not on local drive."
While the files are deleted on the remote server as they should be, it leaves behind empty directories all over the place where these files used to be.
The site is large enough that it takes over an hour to ftp it up to my testing server and I am doing a large amount of cleanup and deleting un-necessary files / directories all over the site. If I am going to have to manually track down every empty directory and remove them one by one, it is going to be faster to completely delete my FTP space and re-upload the site every single time I make some revisions which is a bit ridiclulous.
Isn't deleting the remote directories if I have deleted them locally considered part of SYNCHRONIZATION?
The site is so large that I can go grab a coffee while the synchronization is taking place but it is not quite as bad as re-uploading the entire local copy of the site every time I make significant changes to the site structure.
I guess this is related to why Dreamweaver throws "_notes" folders all over my site CONSTANTLY even when I have design notes turned off for my sites?
I have so many complaints about Dreamweaver and the fact that it pretty much has not improved much at all since Adobe took it over from Macromedia I don't know where to begin. I guess this would be a good place to start LOL!

As much as I hate replying to myself...
I was reading through this thread
    http://digg.com/apple/OSXLeopard_Another_Serious_BUG_Unable_to_Browse_SMB_WindowsShares
I tried many of the suggestions one at a time. Unfortunately, I tried way too many suggestions to know if/which any single one was the "fix". The last three configuration changes I made were to disable IPV6, enable SMB sharing, then disable AFP sharing. After each of these, I did "sudo killall Finder" from a terminal.
Now it works for me as desired.
I hope this helps someone else.

As discussed in the KB I linked for you, it depends. If, in the top grid, there is a YES in the Wireless Deletion column for the subject email service AND you have further configured, as per the KB you found, for deleted item reconciliation, then yes it should delete from the server when you delete from the HH.
Note that there may be a time lag, however -- deleted item reconciliation tends to be one of the lowest priority activities inside of both BIS as well as the email providers systems...I've seen it take up to 24 hours (not normally, but that's the extreme that I've witnessed).
Further, I believe that the on-HH setting for "Keep Messages" should have no effect on the server...deleted item reconciliation is a function of the end user actually deleting from the HH...not the auto-removal by virtue of this setting.
    Hope that helps!

  • How can I set it to delete messages off my server after they download?

How can I set it to delete messages off my server after they download?

IMAP email is server based. The messages stay on the server and just view them remotely with an email client like Thunderbird. If you want to keep a copy on your computer you need to move a copy of the email message to a folder under Local Folders. If you delete the message off the server, it is going to be gone otherwise.
The delete from the server option is a POP email server. It does not apply with IMAP email.
