  • Bridge Doesn't Like Index Color .gif Files Over Networks?

It's been a nightmare trying to navigate network folders with Bridge CS3 (Mac 10.5.3, 2x2.8GHz, 4GB ram) It's not uncommon to have to restart Bridge numerous times daily (tried all the fixes mentioned on these threads, and updated to the latest version of Bridge)
I finally noticed it stops and gives me the spinning wheel every time it encounters a .gif file, so I removed those files from the folder, converted them to RGB and re-saved them as .jpg from Photoshop and bingo! Bridge cached the folder quickly and without incident.
Is this issue documented anywhere? Is there any way to tell Bridge to just ignore .gif files?

    Just an update,
I installed Apple's latest patch and Bridge is much more stable, but will still lock up anytime it encounters a network folder with .gif or .png files.
But at least now I know how to avoid this issue. Maybe future versions of Bridge will allow users to select certain file types to ignore when caching.

  • Bridge doesn't recognize its own .xmp files

Using Bridge CS3 on Mac OS 10.5.8. I edit RAW (.nef) files in ACR. When I click done, save, or open image, an .xmp sidecar file is generated and saved in the same folder as the .nef. However, changes made in ACR do not show in the preview thumbnail in Bridge, and when I re-open the file in ACR, my changes are lost. The .xmp file is still there, it's just not applied. It's like Bridge doesn't know the .xmp file is there. The icons in Bridge indicating altered develop settings or crops do not appear after adjudstments are made. Star ratings made in Bridge remain. When this issue began, it would ignore sidecar files for some images, but not others. It is increasing in frequency, or may now be consistent. (If I open the file into Photoshop or save an image file out of ACR, the changes are applied to the developed image file, they are simply ignored by Bridge in regards to the Raw file.)
Files that were adjusted before the problem began still synchronize with their sidecar files. Looking at the sidecar files in a text editor shows that they contain the adjustments made.
There were no changes in any installations/updates to software or OS at the time of the problem's onset.
I've tried using a Camera Raw database instead of sidecar files, and the changes are still lost. I've tried purging caches for Bridge and for ACR. I've tried resetting and dumping preference (.plist) files.
Anyone have ideas on what I can do to salvage this program as my RAW library manager?

    Matthew,
Same problem here. But I'm using CS5 in Win7.
Bridge cannot find its XMP files. Bridge does not see its XMP files. XMP files do not work. Camera Raw settings do not show in thumbnails. ACR settings lost.
I just now figured out the problem/solution.
In my case, the association between CR2 files and Bridge was usurped by Canon DPP (the Canon raw converter) which I just installed this afternoon. When I installed it, there was no immediate problem. But when I started a new work session tonight, Bridge acted as if the XMP files weren't even there.
Solution: In Windows, to set a file association, you just right-click on a file (in this case the CR2 file) and select "Open With", and then navigate to Bridge (in my case Bridge CS5). That re-establishes the link between Bridge and its own XMP files. Then simply purge your cache and let Bridge rebuild it using its XMPs (which it can now find again) to rebuild the cache with the adjustments that are stored in the XMPs.
I don't know how to do this on a Mac, but the principle is the same.
I hope this solves your problem.

  • Bridge doesn´t show preview of tif-images

    Hi,
I uses Bridge CS6 on a Mac with MacOS 10.9.2. Suddenly bridge doesn´t show previews of Tif-images. It´s also impossible to fill in any metadata. The program also says that the image isn´t tagged with any color profile. I don´t have these problems with jpegs, only with Tif-images. I even get previews on the RAW-images. Does anyone know what the problem can be?
    Ulf

I guess I have to try to reinstall the program.......
I'm 99,99 % sure that won't help solving your problem because to possible being effective you also should use the Adobe Clean tool to get rid of a lot of the hidden files that just stay put during a normal reinstall. But if you want to do something easier instead of reinstall, quit Bridge and go to the user library (by default hidden per OSX 7, use Finder, menu Go with option to reveal this library)
In the preferences folder is plist file for Bridge (com.adobe.bridge5.plist), drag this file to the trash. Then in same library go to the folder Caches / Adobe/ Bridge CS5 and inhere delete both plug in and folder called Cache. (this means recaching the previews and thumbs).
Then restart Bridge holding down option key and again choose 'reset prefs'. All previous deleted items will be replaced with new, fresh and empty ones and you have an almost like factory settings Bridge without the need of reinstall.
But I really suspect it comes down to the Tiff files so maybe also a reset of preferences in PS might be worth a try.

  • Bridge doesn't load files to layers in Photoshop

I recently uninstalled Photoshop CC 2014 and loaded Bridge CC 14.0 because of a known bug that ca
uses focus stacking to not work in Photoshop CC 2014. Now Bridge doesn't recognize Photoshop. Adobe help told me to update my Photoshop, but that would bring me to v. 14.2.1 which has the focus stacking bug. Any ideas?

Yep if I zoom in like 1000% I can clearly see which layer is too big.  It's like when I'm using the marquee tool to select the area, snapping to the grid of guides, some times it's selecting 1 row or column of pixels too many.  I can then fix it but I basically have to redo it those sections (bring back in the original bg elements etc).
The margin of error has to be what it is.  The buttons are not just floating in space, they are on a background that I want to be a part of the popup menu.  So the background becomes part of the button on the popup.  If it's not perfect it is noticable.
On some occassions the highlight is the culprit, it's too big or needs to be moved a tad to fit within the rectangle.
If there was a slice to layer option it seems it would solve everything.
    thanks

  • Bridge doesn't allow me to turn on color management

Any idea why Bridge doesn't allow me to edit/turn on color management? When I go to Edit>Creative Suite Color Settings I just get an error. Says I must launch at least one qualifying CS product. As I have Dreamweaver CS5.5 and PS CS5 running I never know what the issue is. Any ideas? Adobe help is useless on this.

If that is the case, Adobe needs to do a better job in how the settings function. For example, instead of just getting an error message with a confusing statement, the message would provide further clarification and also solutions. The message says one needs to have at least one program running to set up color management. It doesn't say one entire color suite. But thanks so much for responding to my questions.
A bit of the problem is that writing a manual and a help file is not that easy at all. But when it comes to complicated applications like PS and combined with other applications it really is a difficult task. I'm not saying Adobe succeeds clearly in this task because it is not easy to find your way in the new help files but with a bit effort you will soon explore there is a lot of information about understanding color in the PS on line manual (use the menu help / Photoshop Help and your browser shows a page from product support. Top right above there is the option to download the PDF manual.  And in the provided list on your browser window you see also the option for Creative Suite, click on it and you will see a complete chapter about Color Management.
While I know a bit of this subject I'm certainly no expert. It is a complex matter but the basics are not that difficult and the result of your learning effort will pay it self back
Another issue I have noticed is that Bridge does not do a good job at updating thumbnails. I frequently have to hit F5 to refresh when this should happen automatically. I use a Windows 7 machine and perhaps all of this works better on Macs - I don't know.
That should not be needed on either Mac or Windows. While no knowledge of Windows at all to me it seems related to a cache problem. First point Bridge to the folder that gives you this problem and then choose the menu Tools/ cache / purge cache for folder. See if this gives better results. If so and you have other folders with same problem use the option to purge the entire cache and have a fresh start. You need a bit of time because all thumbs and previews have to rebuild.

  • Bridge doesn't open jpg and problem with PS

Hallo to everyone. I work on mac os LION. I'm a cloud member for PS (one year, paying monthly, not extended version). Bridge doesn't open my jpg files 'cause a message telling me I have to register the product (???) . Every time I open PS a window appear telling me mt trial period for PS Extended expired. I have Italian version (multilingual, setted in Italian) (sorry for my poor English, I hope my message is understandable). I updated to the last PS version. No way to cancel the message or open my jpeg from bridge. Anyone may help?

It can be a pain but I would suggest deactivating and reinstalling Adobe Cloud on your computer. Strange problems like this are likely to occur when there was a corrupted file during the download/install process (with any software), especially if you've been having this problem since the begining. Otherwise its possible it could have been a corrupted update.
Try that and let me know if it helps.

  • Irony: Bridge doesn't know what to do with .pictclipping file (Mac)

Bridge 5.0.2.4 running under Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 does not know to which application to hand a ".pictclipping" file.
This type of file normally opens in the Finder, without launching any other application or utility of any kind.
However, Bridge doesn't even show a preview in The Content panel or in the Preview panel either.  Double clicking on such a file within Bridge's Content panel results in Bridge launching and/or bringing to the front the TextEdit application showing a totally empty window showing the actual name of the file in its title bar but a completely blank window.
Needless to say, it's not possible to establish a file association between this kind of file and the Finder from within Bridge.
Just another example of the lack of attention and resources Adobe has shown toward its stepchild application, Bridge.
Adobe Photoshop 13.0.5 does not open such files through its Open menu item dialog either, even though it correctly detects them as a .PICT files.

The only way to see an image contained within a PictClipping in OSX 10.8.4 is in Apple's own Finder App. and it appears that you can't do anything with it once you have "found" it?!  …
That's exactly as it is meant to be, Ann.  An image that is lightning fast to create, lightning fast to view and utterly impossible to alter, manipulate or edit!
You can, however, copy its contents to your Clipboard after Command+A.
    CameraAnn wrote:
Clicking on it, only opens it in an empty RTF window.
Double clicking on it in all Mac OS versions I know, from Mac OS 9.x and earlier up to and including Lion 10.7.5, immediately shows the image in the Finder itself in a stretchable, floating, Finder window.
Have no knowledge of Mountain Lion (which won't run on my Mac Pro1,1 Quad) but what you describe above is exactly what happens when you double click the image in Bridge's Content panel, and that's just plain wrong behavior.  The blank window is not a Finder window in that case, but a TextEdit window.
    CameraAnn wrote:
Images from other than MS Office progams can be drag-copied to the Desktop as JPEGs and MS Office images can always be Copied/Saved As to the location and format of your choice.
So I am not sure why anyone would need to make an Image PictClipping anyway?
Oh, I make pictClippings and textClippings all the time, every single day!
For example, I have a large collection of both pictClippings and textClippings containg killer tips by Photoshop luminaries like Bruce Fraser, Ann Shelbourne and Andrew Rodney, that I've created over the years—in a nanosecond each time—by simply highlighting portions of their Adobe forum posts and dragging the selection to the Desktop:  instant, permanent reminders!
No application needed to open them or to copy their contents.
Another helpful use is to select text from emails giving me the registration or serial number of applications or plug-ins I buy online then save the clipping in a Reg_SerialNumbers folder for later.
    CameraAnn wrote:
However, Bridge will show only the file icon for any image-containing Clipping…
Sure, but that's just the unacceptable, unnecessary tease I'm complaining about.
    CameraAnn wrote:
…Double-Clicking on one will immediately open a small Finder .app window floating over the Bridge CC window…
You're wrong there, Ann; it's not a Finder window but a TextEdit window.  Just look at your menu bar next time you invoke such a tease from within Bridge: the focus will have shifted to the TextEdit application.  That's why the window will show text but not images.
Clippings are one of the GREAT features of the Mac OS that are missing in Windows, and one very important factor that attracted me to the Mac almost thirty years ago.
I am very, very surprised that you haven't discovered its usefulness after all these years, as you are one of the savviest Mac user experts I've ever run across.

  • Bridge doesn't recognize color profiles

    Dear Adobe community,
I'm using Adobe Bridge CS5.1 (4.1.0.54) and Illustrator CS5.1 (15.1.0), and I'm experiencing a very confusing and disturbing color management problem between these two applications. In short, for some unknown reason Bridge doesn't seem to respect or simply cannot read CMYK color profiles that I've applied to an artwork within Illustrator, but rather labels the file as "Untagged" and displays it with clearly desaturated colors. To illustrate the problem I've created some screenshots having Bridge on the left hand side and Illustrator on the right displaying the same illustration with various color profiles applied. That is, in each case I assigned different color profile to the image in Illustrator, saved the file and took the screenshot of Bridge and Illustrator both displaying the image. Now if you look closely then perhaps you notice that the only time I got a visual match between these applications was when I switched the file to a RGB mode within Illustrator. But even then Bridge did not recognized the correct color profile but interpreted it as "Untagged". Here are the screens:
Bridge "Untagged" vs. Illustrator "U.S. Web Coated":
Bridge "Untagged" vs. Illustrator "Coated FOGRA39":
Bridge "Untagged" vs. Illustrator "Don't Color Manage This Document":
Bridge "Untagged" vs. Illustrator "Adobe RGB":
Hope you could see the difference from these tiny images. Looking from my monitor, I can tell you for sure that they are definitely off, except the RGB versions of the illustration. This made me surmise that perhaps Bridge can only display Working RGB profiles correctly and not anything else.
Here's also my color settings, just in case…
So... Why is that??? Why are these applications showing me different results while my color settings are supposed to be "Synchronized"? Is there a way to fix this? I have tried to play around with the settings and looked for a solution in the web but to no avail. Could you please help me to find a soulution to this disturbing problem?
    All the best,
    Juhani

You may have used the broken global Purge Cache command in Bridge Preferences, or the cache is otherwise corrupted. Try Purging the Cache through the Tools menu in Bridge for each folder. Tools > Cache > Purge cache for 'foldername'.

  • Labels not working...bridge doesn't remember labels

Adobe Bridge doesn't remember labels in CS4 in two computers...both Vista?

You could look at it another way.  Make your settings and folder selection then use file/exit.
Then no matter how you close it in future, or where you are at, it will open at your default setting.
Be aware however that it is always running in the background and must be closed to install updates.

How do i put a mobile number in on numbers '09? like 0414441472. Doesn't like 0 at the front. Thanks

    Ed,
There are a number of ways to do this. Your phone number consists of all numerals, yet isn't a numeric value, but rather a text value. Numbers doesn't know that, so it treats it as a numeric value and strips off what it feels is an unnecessary leading zero.
    You have there options:
Format the cells as Text prior to making the entry.
Leave the cells as a Numeric value format, but choose Custom Format to set the number of displayed places and choose to display leading zeros.
Use the Numeral System Format and set it to base 10, displaying 9 digits, or whatever you need.
There are ways to convert a number to text and add required leading zeros with a formula too, but it's needless work.

  • Current CS4 Bridge doesn't recognize Olympus E-620 RAW.  Why?

    1.  I have updated everything via Adobe updater (AUG 2009) and yet Bridge doesn't render the Olympus E620 RAW files as a thumbnail.    Does anyone know what in the world is going on?
This shouldn't be the case because adobe does support the Olympus E620 RAW files;  I'm able to use DNG to convert the E-620 RAW files to DNG.   The current version of ACR also is able to open up the E620 RAW files.    Thus, there is just some strange thing going on with Bridge in which it can't render a preview of the RAW file.
    2.  Any help much appreciated because this is really driving me nuts.
    Thanks.  Harry Shin

Have you already tried to purge the cache. Point bridge to the folder with

  • MP3-Library doesn't like some of MediaSource's ID3 t

Just a tip for MP3-Library users:
On rare occasions, MediaSource 3.30.2 will produce an ID3 tag that MP3-Library doesn't like. (This is pretty rare -- out of 45 tracks I updated the tags on, 6 did this.) This results in the file being displayed as corrupted. If you select "Analyze/Fix MP3," it finds a frame or two with random specifications at the very start of the file, followed by a single bad frame, and then all good frames.
If you check all availiable fix options (delete selected frames [check the junk and bad ones], delete garbage before st frame, delete garbage after last frame), it lops about 30 bytes off the end of the tag/header and takes a few good frames off the start of the file.
According to MP3Utility and EncSpot, there's nothing wrong with the files, and they play just fine in MediaSource, Winamp, and on the Zen. The header data that was destroyed doesn't affect the ID3 data. It only seems to have removed the Xing header. (No, I don't use Xing. LAME 3.97 alpha puts Xing-compatible headers on its VBR files.)
The following are the summary data that MP3Utility shows. This is from the original file, fresh out of LAME:
    <i>File size: 3,63,232 bytes
Offset to first frame header: 2,630 bytes
    MPEG version .0; Layer III
Bitrate: VBR (Xing); Sample rate: 44,00 Hz
    Channel mode: Joint stereo
Private: No; CRCs: No; Copyrighted: No
    Original: No; Emphasis: None
    Frame size: ,52 samples/frame
    Frame length: 47 bytes/frame (unpadded)
    Pad size: byte(s)
    Estimated frames: 8,945
    Estimated time: 3:54 (234 secs.)</i>
This is after importing the file into the PC Music Library and clicking "Update Tag." I didn't modify anything, just told it to re-write the ID3 tag:
    <i>File size: 3,63,232 bytes
Offset to first frame header: 2,630 bytes
    MPEG version .0; Layer III
Bitrate: VBR (Xing); Sample rate: 44,00 Hz
    Channel mode: Joint stereo
Private: No; CRCs: No; Copyrighted: No
    Original: No; Emphasis: None
    Frame size: ,52 samples/frame
    Frame length: 47 bytes/frame (unpadded)
    Pad size: byte(s)
    Estimated frames: 8,945
    Estimated time: 3:54 (234 secs.)</i>
And this is after MP3-Library "fixed" it:
    <i>File size: 3,629,325 bytes
Offset to first frame header: 2,600 bytes
    MPEG version .0; Layer III
Bitrate: 224 kbps; Sample rate: 44,00 Hz
    Channel mode: Joint stereo
Private: No; CRCs: No; Copyrighted: No
    Original: No; Emphasis: None
    Frame size: ,52 samples/frame
    Frame length: 73 bytes/frame (unpadded)
    Pad size: byte(s)
    Estimated frames: 4,96
    Estimated time: 2:0 (30 secs.)</i>
No, MP3-Library DIDN'T chop 04 seconds off the file. The estimated frame count and length are WRONG because the Xing header was destroyed by MP3-Library. This header would normally tell MP3Utility how long the file really is, otherwise it takes the bitrate of the first frame and extrapolates that over the file length. (Without this header, many programs' progress sliders won't be as accurate.)
So, if MP3-Library tells you a file is corrupted after going through MediaSource and the file wasn't corrupted before, DON'T fix it. You'll only make things worse. I've never seen MediaSource or my Zen actually damage a file.
(At first, I told it to fix 'em. Now I'm going through and restoring the backups it made.)

i have used mp3-libary many times before because it said a large amount of my collection was corrupted. but it seams to be better.as i havent used media source to import them so i think they may have actually be corrupt. but interesting findings.
