  • Bridge Exports Changes Resolution from 300 to 72 dpi, resizing my image

    I like to use Bridge (CS5) to export my photographs for printing, and frequently I will use the Export feature to resize the images (e.g., 5x7 vs full size), but every time I export it recharacterizes the images as 72 dpi, vs the 300 dpi I prefer.
    Consistent with some of the previous postings (~2 yrs ago) I have seen on this topic the exported images are now "sized" much bigger (29"x20" for what should have been ~5"x7"), and hence expectantly I haven't lost any resolution, but it's aggrevating to have the dpi changed.
    Can anyone tell me how to export without having the dpi changed?
    And while I'm at it, can anyone confirm that I'm not loosing image resolution?
    Thanks so much!!

    Can anyone tell me how to export without having the dpi changed?
    Can't find any other settings to change and just having tested it I can confirm that it sets ppi (it is pixels per inch -ppi- for a digital file which is made from pixels and dots per inch -dpi- from the ink dots of a print ) to 72.
    And while I'm at it, can anyone confirm that I'm not loosing image resolution?
    You already stated yourself that you did not loose pixels, therefor the size of the files stays the same. It is just a mater of figures. 300 ppi means a larger concentration per inch and 72 pixels per inch means a smaller concentration of pixels per inch. Given the same amount of pixels for both settings this means a smaller image dimension for 300 ppi and a larger image dimension for the 72 ppi.
    300 ppi is some 'magic' number from printed press, but it really depends on the need of the job related printing machine. If you have a small image and need to look closely it should have a larger concentration per inch to reflect its sharpness.
    However theoretically you would almost have the same visible quality when printed on 72 at billboard sizes. That's because you always have a large distance between your eyes and the bill board. If you look closely you will see the dots (because the billboard is a product of ink dots…) but of course it is not meant to study at that close range.
    The same is for judging sharpness on your computer. Ideally you do so at 100 % for correct judgement at real size pixels. But in reality there will be almost no situation you will study a print at that same distance
    Any thoughts on why these would be different?   And am I fretting over things unncessarily?
    Only guesses, the use a different algorithm or calculation scheme, in my case I tried a Canon Raw (converted to DNG) without any ACR settings then the basics applied and found that Bridge export jpeg 11 creates larger files then using PS.
    But there are some other concerns I have and that certainly would make me fretting in use of export module:
    First of all I almost never use it, merely in this cases for testing, because using the menu tools give a shortcut to Photoshop / Batch and inhere I have created several dedicated resizing and resaving actions that also places the files in preset folders.
    But with this small test I found out that
    a: it changes ppi to 72 ppi, not a very big deal but I did not asked for it nor did I wanted it.
    b: it converts my Adobe RGB color space to sRGB and I certainly did not want that without my explicit wish for this conversion, so this is more then a bit worrying to my concern.
    c: it seems to apply a sharpness that I certainly did not want to happen without my knowledge, and this rules the use of the export module out completely.
    Since I only tried a DNG file without settings or retouch/developing  in Photoshop the jpeg generated by PS was not very sharp. This makes sense to me because I have set my basic ACR to apply sharpening only to preview. There are a lot of different sharpening theories around but I use one in PS itself. So I was a bit shocked to learn that the export module did all those for me unwanted and not adjustable settings putting me completely out of control…
    So if you want to have full control about things happening under the hood yourself just start creating actions in PS, it is very easy to record an action and even more easier to play it. Instead of every time dragging files to export module and always recheck the image options (it seems to reset itself always to jpeg quality 8 on my system) only select the files you want to resize and choose menu tool / Photoshop Batch and select the wanted action. hit OK and your almost done, PS does the rest.
    The great thing of the latest PS CS6 action pallet is the extension with a so called 'insert conditional' that let's you create an 'if - then else' action for both landscape and portrait resizing actions so you don't need the 'constrain to fit' or 'fit image' option. Just once create an action for both resizing dimensions and then create a new action with insert conditional. choose If image is landscape play action…. / else play action….
    It is really a very productive way. I have a lot of actions (organized in sets for better overview) and even one that creates 4 different sizes in 4 different folders using 1 go in Bridge

  • Bridge exports to sRGB instead AdobeRGB

    Hi,
    I've a problem with the Bridge export functionality.
    When I export (Nikon) RAW files to jpg files (directly via the Bridge Export functionality, without using Photoshop) always sRGB is taken as profile for the jpgs (it doesn't matter if I open the Raw files before with Camera Raw and set AdobeRGB as profile).
    I can't find a setting that enables Bridge to export with AdobeRGB profile (like in Lightroom).
    Any hints?
    My configuration:
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
    Photoshop CS5
    Thanks,
    Holger.

    Thanks. Installing a third party plug-in will be my last solution.
    I've read the description of the plug-in and was wondering if it was developped for CS4. At least the Bridge in CS5 has the Export functionality (I do not know the Bridge in the previous CS4 version, perhaps there the plug-in was needed).
    In the CS5 version I can specify own presets like "High Quality" export or "Export for email". Very nice but the profile is wrong.
    When I use the workaround "Tools - Photoshop - Image Processor" (sorry I do not know if this is the correct wording since I use the german version of CS5) the image processor from Photoshop will be taken. There I do not have my presets, but at least the profile is set to AdobeRGB.
    I also tried already Lightroom. There the export functionality works fine. But threre are two drawbacks.
    1) The color labeling will not be imported from Bridge (meaning when I specify a picture as "red" or "green" this will not be recogniced by Lightroom. Same, the other way round. Setting a color label or only exporting in Lightroom and opening the Bridge the label will be displayed as "white" (formerly red, green or whatever). So my labeling is lost (for the newly exported jpgs). I do not understand why there is not a better integration for this feature of these two Adobe products.
    2) There is a known bug with the Spot Removal Tool and jpgs (at my system the tool is so slow with jpgs that you can't use it => Lightroom freezes for seconds with every move of the mouse, with Raw files it works perfectly)
    One last question. If you do not use the export functionality from Bridge, how do you convert your Raw files to jpg?
    Thanks for the plug-in link,
    Holger.
    Remark after post:
    I have found a solution for the color labeling problem with Bridge - Lightroom.
    They have to use the exact same wording (there is also a preset in Lightroom to use the Bridge standard). Then it works.

  • Adobe Bridge - Export - Manual Scale - Image Size Option

    I would like to use Adobe Bridge to export a batch of images to a fixed height (e.g. 400px) where the width is dynamic. There are other software programs that would give me this option, but It would be wonderful if this "small feature" could somehow be added to adobe photoshop.
    Thank you,
    jjchinquist

    Hello 1.csuebele, thanks for the comment.
    I was surprised that this was in Photoshop and not in the Bridge, but that is ok.
    I was not allowed to leave the width blank, nor enter -1 or 0 for variable. I worked around it by using a width that was so large, it would never be used because the maximum height would be used. For example width: 9000, height: 400.
    Unfortunately in Photoshop scripts, there seem to be no method to override the image proportion so that I could force a thumbnail of 400 wide and 300 high.
    After all that though, here is the result, thank you. http://www.ots.at/jahresrueckblick/2013/

  • Report with online template runs online, but exports empty report.

    I created a simple Table template using the online template builder. The report consists of four columns. It runs fine in online mode, and displays the data. When I try to export this report to any other format, while still viewing the table in the browser, it exports an empty report! Only the title is visible, no data rows.
    Just another example of how bad this software is. Every day it's a different bug!

    It's the conditional highlighting that breaks the report. I made it so a few rows were emboldened based on the value of one column. Nice feature, Oracle.

  • Lightroom 4.3 Exporting "Empty" JPGs

    I have been having a problem exporting w/ Lightroom on a Mac. It seems that no matter what export settings I am using, Lightroom will only properly export a few images out of several. I don't get an error message in Lightroom, but when I try to open the file, it tells me: "The file '__' could not be opened because it is empty". I'm at a loss, and I have to get several files exported today.
    Thanks!

    I believe this has something to do with the use of Dropbox on your computer.
    Try shutting down Dropbox and see if the export work. Or try exporting to a folder that is not monitored by DropBox.

  • Unable to export empty tables

    I use this command:
    exp userid=clix_db file=clix.dmp log=dump.log consistent=y
    to export all tables from user "clix_db".
    But when I take a look into the log file, I notice that not all tables have been exported. All empty tables are missed.
    e.g. the table "LIC_REPORTLOG" does exists! OK, the table is empty.
    But it is not exported. When I import the clix.dmp into another empty database, there is no table "LIC_REPORTLOG"
    When I export only this table with
    exp userid=clix_db file=clix_lic.dmp log=dump_lic.log consistent=y tables=LIC_REPORTLOG
    I get an error message:
    EXP-00011: CLIX_DB.LIC_REPORTLOG does not exist
    If I take a look into the table "all_tables", everything is fine:

    SQL> select * from CLIX_DB.LIC_REPORTLOG;

    Any ideas?

    Hello,
    I think that with such a new release you should use DataPump (expdp/impdb) to
    export Tables.
    For exporting a complete Schema you may use the following syntax:
    expdp {color:red}+user+{color}/{color:red}+password+{color} PARFILE=pfexport.txt_With pfexport.txt as bellow:_
    SCHEMAS={color:red}+schema_name+{color}
    FLASHBACK_TIME="TO_TIMESTAMP(to_char(SYSDATE,'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS'),'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')"
    CONTENT=ALL
    DIRECTORY=EXP_DIR
    DUMPFILE={color:red}+dump_file_name+{color}
    LOGFILE={color:red}+log_file_name+{color}Then, in this example, you'll get the "dump file" and the "log file" into the EXP_DIR Oracle directory (if it exists).
    You can check your Oracle Directories with the following query:
    select * from dba_directories;Then, you can use one of these Directories or create a new one with the following statement
    CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY {color:red}+directory_name+{color} AS '{color:red}+directory_path+{color}';
    GRANT READ,WRITE ON DIRECTORY {color:red}+directory_name+{color} TO {color:red}+user_name+{color};Hope it can help,

  • ExtendScript CS5 - Bridge - Exporting JPEGs as 300DPI from PSDs

    I know that Bridge has an Export menu that can be used to convert PSDs to JPEG and then convert them, but I can't figure out how to get access to these functions through the ExtendScript API.
    I basically have an array of Thumbnail objects that I need to iterate through and export out 300 DPI JPEGs as I go.
    Any ideas? I've already read through the manuals and didn't find anything of use.
    My current relevant line looks like:
    bm.exportTo(new File(exportFilePath),100);

    You best drop this question in the dedicated Bridge scripting forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/bridge/bridge_scripting
    Personally I would PS itself for this and create an action for this and the 300 ppi miracle figure is just what is, a figure, no more no less.
    Many confuse it with dpi (dots per inch) but this is about the density of the ink dots used for printing. Ppi (pixels per inch) is the common term for digital images (that are made out of pixels, not ink dots… )
    As long as you don't alter the amount of pixels you can use whatever figure you want without changing the total amount of the pixels, it just means the width and height are extended or increased because of the total amount of pixels used per inch. Anyone can alter this again without consequence for the image quality of the original file, as long as you don't start recalculating pixels to enlarge the or decrease the file size.
    That said, In CS6 you have the option to create an action for both landscape and portrait using image / image size and fill in 300 pixels per inch and be sure to have the resample option unchecked. Also record a save action and without touching the original filename (if you do it records this also and overwrite each file with the new one) and choose a folder.
    Create a new action and use 'insert conditional' (fly out menu top right of action panel) and choose the landscape action to play for landscape file, else: portrait.
    Select the files in Bridge, use menu tools / PS / batch and select your action, hit OK and you are done.
    You can also create a droplet but sadly enough you can't see them in Bridge and drop files on, but you can drag them to the desktop to let the action play.
    Plenty of options I would think

  • Metadata bridge export to Oracle9i OLAP

    When I export a collection to Oracle9i OLAP using the Metadata Bridge, not all of the attributes are carried over. For instance, in my TIME dimension, Ihave columns for MONTH_END_DATE, MONTH_SHORT_NAME, MONTH_LONG_NAME, MONTH_TIME_SPAN. When I view the dimension attributes in OEM, the short_description and long_descriptoion fields both show MONTH_LONG_NAME. How do I get the MONTH_SHORT_NAME attribute to register in OLAP? Using OWB Client 9.2.0.3.0

    Hi,
    Given the naming conventions required by OLAP, and the fact that most dimensions have multiple attributes which cannot all end with the suffix _NAME, is there a plan to update the metadata bridge so that all the required meteadata is created by the bridge?

    **! Transfer logging stopped at Tue Sep 28 15:58:33 CDT 2004 !**
    Am I doing the export right? We want to take advantage of OWB and the OLAP feature. I'm using OWB 10g.

    From the log you mention it is difficult to understand what is the problem. Are you getting some additional error messages? And, most importantly ... what version of OWB/DB are you using?

  • Bridge, export to Harddisc has gone missing?

    Hello,
    I just bought CS5.5, from 5.0. But since it's a new version, I uninstalled the 'old'  one first and then installed the 5.5.
    There's one thing that I'm missing and that's the ' export to harddisc' function.
    In Bridge 5.0 I would select Export-> and under services there was 'harddisc'. then I could convert it to almost any other format.
    In Bridge 5.1 there is only 'services'  greyed out available, but I don't see the option Harddisc anywhere.
    Tried reinstalling and review my settings, but can't find anything on this matter. Can anybody help me with this?
    Thank you in advance!
    With regards,
    John

    I don't have CS5.5 but on the web it looks like export is in Windows heading.  Have your tried there rather than in Files?

  • Bridge Export: "Unable to create a jpg for this file"

    Every now and then when I attempt to "Export" a jpg from Bridge (typically to reduce the image size for web posting), I get a little exclamation point, and then when you click on the file name I get a message telling me that Bridge is unable to create a jpg for this file...
    The interesting thing is that all pics in the folder have the same problem (ie, it seems to be a folder issue, not an issue with an individual file).
    If I copy all the pics to another folder, the export works fine.  (Obviously this is not a desired solution.)
    Thanks in advance!
      Brian

    I am having the same problem.
    It worked perfectly until about 6 weeks ago. Then I started getting the error message.  If I selected the images from the exact same directory and dropped them on the export tab, they would usually work.  Also if I took 5 or less images, It would usually work, so I don't hink there is any problem with the directoiry or the files.
    I have reinstalled brif=deg and photoshop.  it is now CS5.1 and all was stable. for a week and now I am having the problem that Bridge is unable to create a jpg for this file.
    Previously, I did not notice that erroe message, so I could have been having some other error, but now this is the one I am having.  I am not trying to change the size of these images.  Just convert from nef and photoshop to jpeg.

  • Bridge cs6 export - only hard drive option is present. I want ftp and social network module

    I want to export my images right from the bridge. Uploading them to different social sites and ftps is a bit of a hassle and it is easy to forget something in the process. It would be so much better if I could just drag files to desired locations/presets.
    I've seen something like that in the blogs (but with lower version of CS) where people have facebook and other options. But I can see only hard drive module.
    Is it possible? If so - why don't I have this option? What can I do?

    If you don’t see the four modules, click the flyout menu and choose “Manage Modules.”
    Make sure all four are checked. If you don’t see the four listed, click the little gear, and from ITS flyout menu, choose “Check for Updates.” When you’re through, click the small “Done” button at the bottom to return to the Export Panel main window.
    You can start using the export modules directly, but every time you use them you’ll have to go through a long export process. Use presets to streamline this operation, by saving all the work for re-use. You can create multiple presets; for example, you might have several presets for Facebook depending on whether you want to send the images to your wall, or a specific album. We’ll step through the Facebook setup first.
    In the Export Panel, highlight “Facebook” and click on the “+” icon at the bottom to Add a new Preset.
    The “Add Preset” dialog appears, and the first thing you will need to do is authenticate with Facebook. Note that you will need to authenticate every time you create a new preset, even with the same service, but you won’t need to authenticate when you actually export your images. Click on “Sign In.”
    Two things happen: Your browser will be launched, and you’ll see the authentication page from Facebook. You’ll need to enter your credentials, and you can check “Keep me logged in to Adobe Bridge Export Panel.”
    Etc. etc.
    You can follow the rest of the instructions here:
