Bridge Files app and media card encryption..

Just wanted to note clearly, in hopes that someone from RIM will see, that opening files over the Bridge Files app is almost useless if your BES admins force media card encryption on, like mine do. All files saved on the MicroSD card are encrypted and have a .rem extension appended to the filename. When this happens, the Bridge Files app is too dumb to see the file and decrypt it.
It is clear to me that this could be fixed in a software update and I hope it will be. It dramatically limits the usefulness of the bridge. I can't open any file saved with the bridge browser, or anything that comes as an email attachment. Most annoying..
Can anyone comment on whether RIM has made a statement anywhere on whether this will be fixed or not?
Thanks!!

  • Problem with OS 10.2.0.424 and Media Card Encryption

Several weeks ago I upgraded to OS 10.2.0.424.  Everything went fine, no problems.  My phone worked perfectly.
Then over one week later I turned my phone on in the morning and after it had booted it said "your media card was encrypted on a different device.  You will need to reformat your media card on this device before you can use it".
Now, the following should be noted very carefully:  THE MEDIA CARD WAS BOUGHT SPECIFICALLY FOR MY Z10, IT WAS FORMATTED IN THE SAME HANDSET, ENCRYPTED IN THE SAME HANDSET AND HAS ***NEVER*** BEEN OUT OF THE HANDSET.
As far as I am concerned, this is a fault with the upgrade.  Having looked on Crackberry.com I see many other users having a similar problem.  I am fortunate in that I do weekly backups of my handset including the media card.  However I am reluctant to use my media card again in case this problem recurs.
I tried contacting Blackberry help on Twitter however I can only assume that the Blackberry Twitter team are sub-contractors who don't work for BT as their advice was along the lines of "have you tried rebooting?  You have?  Oh well, you'll need to speak to your mobile provider as there's nothing we can do."
Please, Blackberry, can you acknowledge this fault and advise what your timescale is for resolution?
    A dissatisfied loyal Blackberry customer.

If the user removes the media card from the BlackBerry device and places it in a new BlackBerry device, the new BlackBerry device cannot decrypt any files that the first BlackBerry device encrypted on the media card using a randomly generated device key. If the first BlackBerry device encrypted the files on the media card using the BlackBerry device password, when the user removes the media card from the BlackBerry device and places it in a new BlackBerry device, the new BlackBerry device prompts the user for the password used on the first BlackBerry device to access the files on the new device.
    The above is from BlackBerry:
I can only assume that Upgrading is like changing Devices, so before Upgrading save all data.

  • HT1386 "Updating to iOS 6.1.5 will delete all of the apps and media..."  Why?

My daughter has a 4th gen ipod touch, still on iOS 4.3.5. It wasn't updated for such a long time because I had a space shortage on the computer on which it was always updated.  I've recently increased the size of C: so now I could proceed to back up all the kids' ipods and bring them up to the latest OS.
I backed it up and Synced onto the computer that it has always been backed up to. When I try to update it, it gives me this warning:
"Updating to iOS 6.1.5 will delete all of the apps and media, including iTunes Store purcahses. on your iPod touch.  To preserve your content. apply this update on the computer where you sync apps. music. videos. and photos."
This *really is* the computer on which all the backups and syncs had been done, but I think that I may have corrupted the apple files when I copied the image of the old C: drive onto the new hard disk.
The other two kids' ipod touches updated without any problems.  This third one, however has the warning above.
How do I fix this problem?
By the way: Quad core PC with 4GB of RAM, 64-bit Windows 7, and iTunes 11.1.4.62.
    Thanks.

Do the followings to not lose anything. When you restore from backup as the article says, the iPod will also be updated

  • Possible to access an .html file stored on media card?

I have downloaded web pages I built from my computer to the media card in my Blackberry 8310. After opening MEDIA on the home screen, I can click the menu > explore > navigate to the .html file and it will display.  Javascript does not function, however, even if it is turned on and is functional with web sites through my browser.  I presume I am having this problem because I am not viewing the file using a browser with this method.  This lead me to the thought of accessing the file through my browser.  When I start my browser then use the menu key > Go to, I cannot find the proper format command to access a file on the media card.  I am attempting a similar request as using a browser on a puter then typing c:\directory\file.  I have used the file//C:\ format along with other formats to no avail.  I am not sure if the device has a name.  I have tried Device:\ but that doesn't work.  I tried \Media Card and that doesn't work either.  I moved the files into devce memory hoping I could access it.  I would appreciate any help with either method I have tried.  Thanks, Ted

I doubt it is possible. Pages is fairly limited when it comes to html.
I would try finding another application or send the files as pdf. PDF may not be a good idea in marketing material, as the receiver may not even open the file, but if you present it in a nice way, it may work.

  • IPhone update on my new mac without losing my apps and media

So, I have an iPhone 3gs with software version 4.1 and an old 15" PowerBook G4 running OSX 10.4 Tiger.  Ages ago iTunes kept telling me "This version of iTunes (9.2.1) is the current version" when I pressed to update my iphone on itunes.  I soon found out it was because my iTunes was actually not up to date because I couldn't get the latest iTunes on Tiger.  So I couldn't get the latest iOS on my iPhone until I had the latest iTunes, and I couldn't get the latest iTunes until I had a later OSX on my Mac.  I didn't want to update to the latest OSX on my PowerBook because it seemed pointless, I was saving for a new computer...
My first gripe is that I couldn't update my iPhone to the latest iOS just because I was running an old OSX on my Mac; my friends with their grubby old PCs have got iOS 5 on their iPhones, I'm a longtime apple computer customer and I don't, how is that fair?
Fast forward to today, my new computer arrived.  A shiny great big Mac Pro (I'm a sound engineer/music producer, I know it's still not really necessary, but I wanted it).  Once again I've piled thousands of pounds into the Apple corporation.  ITunes on the new machine is setup to my iTunes account, I find out I'm gonna have to transfer all my songs manually, there's no way of just getting your libraries to sync? Anyway to my main point...  I plug my iPhone into the new Mac Pro and press update on iTunes and I get "Updating to iOS 5.0.1 will delete all of the apps and media, including iTunes Store purchases, on your iPhone. To preserve your content, apply this update on the computer where you sync apps, music, videos, and photos. Updating on this computer will only preserve contacts, calendars, text messages, and other settings".  So... you want me to update my iPhone on the computer that can't update my iPhone...
I'm really trying hard not to swear...
Please somebody tell me there's a way I can update AND preserve all my content.
Maybe I can update on the new computer, lose the stuff, then go back and sync with the old computer???  All my media is backed up on there, including apps, surely this should work...  But, would the old computer even let me touch the iPhone again after the update?  I'm concerned, having experienced Apple's lack of backward compatibility (something I used to think they were quite good at), that it won't (touch wood the powerbook doesn't die before then).
    Please help me!
    My Macs:
    1.67 GHz PowerPC G4, 1.5 GB Ram with OS X 10.4.11
    2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 6 GB Ram with OS X 10.7.2

First off...should have built your own Mac or have gotten a better Mac (the Mac Pro is outdated for the most part), but that is for a separate discussion and if you're happy, then that's what matters.
Second, you should be able to restore your media via Time Machine. Be careful with this next part.
Note that you do not HAVE to install iOS 5, unless you want iCloud and the new interfaces that come along with it (certain apps may also require iOS 5). iOS 5 is completely optional (except Apple will nag you to update). Just don't update the phone, you'll be able to sync as normal. You might lose your app data if you don't have iOS 4.3, but hopefully that isn't an issue. Since you have iTunes 9.2 on your Powerbook, you should be able to sync between both devices.

  • Itunes iOS 5.0.1 update wants to delete all my apps and media.  Think I have synced to a different computer

today I synced my iphone, it was updated with new iOS 5.0.1.  I also changed my old apple ID to my e-mail address and made a new password as suggested.
I have two libraries in itunes on my computer.  one for my iphone and one for my itouch.  They are different.  The sync and software update with my iphone went fine.  But when I opened up the library for my itouch and tried to update and sync it I got this message.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Updating to iOS 5.0.1 will delete all of the apps and media. including iTunes Store purchases. on you iPod touch.  To preserve your content. apply this update on the computer where you sync apps. music. videos. and photos.
    Updating on this computer will only preserve contacts, calendars, text message, and other settings.  Please do not interrupt the update, which may take an hour or longer to complete.  iTunes will verify the software update with Apple.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I cancelled out of that.  I have never synced my itouch with another computer.  What can I do to prevent itunes from deleting everything on my itouch?

    Hi,
Have you backed up your iPod's data to your computer/iCloud? If so, it should be fine to update.
Also, it is possible (If you have iOS 5.0 already) to update iOS on your iPod without the need for iTunes: Check your iPod has more than 50% battery, open 'Settings' on your iPod and tap General > Software Update and iOS 5.1 should be there for you to download and install. That is how I did it and it only takes 5 minutes.
    I hope this helps!

  • My new ipad is showing the message 'Use wi fi to restore - A wi fi connection is required to download your apps and media' then gives 2 buttons

I had my ipad replaced last week. The apps etc were transferred to the new ipad and it worked fine for a couple of days. This morning the screen locked up and displayed the message - Use WiFi to Restore- A wi fi connection is required to download your apps and media. Then gives a choice of two buttons - Later or Use Wifi. Absolutely nothing happens when you press these buttons, the whole screen has locked up and it can't even be turned off. If you hold the off button down then eventually the slide to power off button appears but nothing happens when you swipe it. Help!

Hold down the home button and power button at the same time, ignore the power off slider until the Apple logo appears.

Unfortunately, there is no touch screen ability.  The message won't allow us to click OK and we can't turn off the iPad to reboot it because that would require a slide to confirm.

  • Blackberry Q5 Media Card Encrypted. Cannot View files after doing Wipe

I have Blackberry Q5 media card that was encrypted. When it was full a removed that and changed with the new SD card. Later, I wiped my blackberry device.
Now I wanted to view the files stored on my old media card that was encrypted on same blackberry device but I am unable to do so. I am using the same device with same device lock password.
    Please advice. Thanks in Advance.

If i do device switch then i understand. But when I wipe only my contacts and applications and "not the media card", i  don't remember that it warned me that i will not be able to use my media card again. I am using the same device, same device password and the same media card then why the blackberry will not allow me to view my files. What is the logic here?
The other person cannot have my device, my media card and my password all with him to breach my privacy isn't it?

  • Apps onto media card.

hi. i have a torch 9810 smartphone thats not acting so smart.. :-)  or could be me. well.. theres only 512mb memory for download apps to, only downloaded 4 and its full. how do i change the settings to use a media card to fit more apps onto..
    thanks.
    dave...

Hello...if interested, here's a "primer" on how memory on BBs works...the basic answer is no...apps can only reside in the protected AppMemory space...they cannot be installed and functional anywhere else. More details...
There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) Application Memory, 2) Device Memory, and 3) Media/SD Card Memory.
Application Memory -- This is the most crucial; it is the protected (not user accessible), dedicated, and fixed (in size) space that is available as the destination for the installation of applications (plus some application storage, overhead and such). You cannot touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can only install here...there is no option.
Device Memory -- This is space on your BB that you can touch to store files, pictures, media, etc. Typically, it is not terribly large, but it is available to you.
SD/Media Card Memory-- This is what it says...your SD card, for you to store files, media, pictures, etc. It can be as large as your BB OS can support...see this KB:
KB05461MicroSD card sizes supported by the BlackBerry device software
On some devices/OS levels, you can only see "File Free" (Options > Status), which I think is equivalent to AppMemory. On other devices, you can see all three memory usage levels (Options > Memory). Here are some guidelines to use:
KB02843What is the Low Memory Manager feature on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB14320How to maximize free space and battery power on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB14213Call logs, SMS text messages, and email messages are deleted from the BlackBerry smartphone
Lastly, it is always important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
Further, anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure. Some have taken to doing this on a regular basis as a preventive measure...some as frequently as once per day. Others have obtained the QuickPull app to automate a simulated Batt-Pull.
    Good luck!
