Bridge freezes

When trying to browse through Bridge, or open a file in Bridge, my whole Macbook freezes, necessitating a hard shut down! SOS please....
Thanks,
Pam

Pam,
Due to the current unavailability of clairvoyants and mind-readers in the forum, we respectfully request you supply sensible, complete details.
A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.
BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CC", but something like CC2014.v.2.2) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,
etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).

  • Bridge freezes when renaming files

When I rename certain files or folders, Bridge freezes on this message:
Updating the cache for items within the folder recursively...
It doesn't happen with all files or folders, but I haven't been able to determine a pattern. I've also had issues with the previews associated with some files (I just get a gray box), so I'm thinking it's obviously a cache issue. I've cleared the cache multiple times with no success. Any ideas?
I'm running OSX 10.6.7 (which brought with it lovely bug in PDFs with PostScript-flavored OpenType fonts), which might be an issue. I'm also using Dropbox 0.7.110, with three other users...there are a whole lot of files in Dropbox that constantly update, so I can see how that might affect it to.

It could be Time Machine, Spotblight, Dropbox… especially the obnoxious, intrusive Time Machine.

The players:   Photoshop, Bridge, Dropbox, Time Machine, Spotlight, Finder
    Photoshop
creates a temp file, writes to the temp file, and renames the temp to
replace the original file, plus gets stat on the files.
Bridge only reads the file, and writes to it's database.
Finder gets attributes on the file in the normal folders.
    Dropbox
gets stat on the files from 2 different processes (Dropbox,
dbfseventsd), even outside it's directory, even in temporary
    directories.
Spotlight (mdworker, mds) gets stat, and reads the
files, even in temporary directories, sometimes while the file is still
    being written.
Time Machine (backupd) gets stats, reads the files, and sometimes sets attributes on the files, even in temporary directories.
Photoshop, Bridge and Finder are acting as expected.
While Dropbox and Spotlight are doing some excess work, they don't seem to cause file modifications.
    But
Time Machine is doing things wrong and causing file modifications, plus
would fit with the "have the file open a long time" symptom.
    and
on my own system I've confirmed that Dropbox and dbfseventsd will get stats on files outside the Dropbox folder.
Dropbox has some bugs to fix.

  • CS3 Bridge Freezes

Can Anyone help with this problem?
After working ok for over a year, bridge has started giving problems. I can see my folders - but not all of them,
and when i try to open a folder to see the images bridge freezes up completely. I tried resetting but got the same result.
I have also tried downloading new images from a flsh card and these show up in bridge.
Any idea what I can try next?
    Thanks

I don't understand the concept of central or distributed cache. I did not see how to set such options.
This option is in preferences/cache.  There is a box "automatically export cache to folders when possible"  This will put cache in the folders as well as in central cache location.
A year or so ago there were lots of posts where the computer just froze up/crashed even when doing nothing.  Don't see that anymore.  Don't know if people got newer computer or whether Adobe provide updates that addressed the problem.
One thing that you need look at is your anti-virus program.  It can frequently cause problems.  That may explain why all of a sudden you have it freeze up as it may be doing something.  Try to temporaly disable it and see if problem continues.
The other thing, and this is a long shot, is it possible that the video card is working hard enough to overheat and shut down?  I know some even have fans.  Don't know how to check for this but perhaps some info on Nvida site.

  • Bridge freezes online - works offline

bridge freezes right after getting startet and remains in this stage
but once I disconnect from the internet it does work perfectly
    - and freezes again as I connect to the internet
(LR & PH are doing fine !! - PC, Win7)
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Exact versions of Bridge and of Win 7, please.  Also detailed machine specs.

  • Incomplete Photoshop window and Bridge freeze-up

I have just purchased a new imac: 2.66 i5, 4gb memory, ati radeon 4850 card, running the latest Leopard. (the base model 27``)  Just installed CS4 and have not had any success using it. Bridge freezes up immediately when opened and I have to force quit. Photoshop opens and I can work on images, however the only thing that seems to open are the tool bars. I have yet to see if I can save an image or do any serious work on it.  The central window where image view is retains whatever is on the screen from previous viewing with the working image overlayed, or just the desktop if no programs are running. I have done both the standard full install and a custom install, and I encounter the same issues. I have tried the script cleanup some have suggested, run every update I can find and nothing works.
I do keep all my images on a maxtor external hardrive I used w/ my PC. I thought there was a hardware conflict so I pulled some images to a folder on the mac, but still bridge freezes before I can open a single image.
My computer is only 2 weeks old and I have installed no other programs and this is my first mac.

  • Adobe Bridge Freezes While Previewing Animation Presets

    Hello
I know this question has been asked several times over, but I do not have a resolution so I thought would ask again.  Like the previous posts, when I browse presets from the Effects and Animations menu, Adobe Bridge opens.  I can scroll through the animations, but once I choose one, the play button scrubs and appears to play, but never does, and then the program freezes.  I have read the blog posts and installed the fixes posted on the adobe blog, but nothing helps. All of my Apple Software and Creative Cloud software says it is up to date.
    Here are my settings:
    Adobe After Effects 12.2.1.5
    Adobe Bridge 6.0.1.6
    Apple Quicktime 10.1
    20-inch, Early 2008 iMac OS X
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)
Any guidance you can offer is much appreciated!
    Thank you,

Thanks for the quick reply Rick.  Yes, 4Gb is not a lot, but when I bought the machine I was not doing any video and it sure seemed like plenty in 2008.  I probably should upgrade...
I did close down everything else, but the problem still exists.  I can navigate to a thumbnail, but once I click on it and try to preview, the program freezes and I have to force quit.

  • Bridge Freezing, Not Displaying Thumbnails, Says Disk Space is Low and to Purge Cache

    Hello,
I'm working in Bridge CS5 on a Mac 0S X version 10.9.2. I have 12 GB of RAM and the server has 240 TB capacity, 76.69 available.
Recently I've received the following error message while processing large photo shoots with both DNG and JPEG files: Bridge is running low on memory. It is recommended that Bridge is restarted.
I have also been manually caching large photo shoots and my cache preferences were set to Keep 100% Preview In Cache and Automatically Export Cache To Folder When Possible. My cache size was set to 500,000.  Yesterday, Bridge started to freeze while attempting to open folders. The wheel would spin at the bottom with the message Compiling Criteria. The only way to close Bridge was a Force Quit. This happened several times.
Today, image thumbnails will no longer display, only the DNG/JPEG icons. I received the following error message:
I have tried restarting Bridge while holding the alt/Option key to reset the preferences and checking all three boxes - no luck. I have done the same thing with the boxes unchecked - no luck.  I have tried manually purging the cache from its location in the library - no luck. I have tried resetting the cache preferences from the toolbar - no luck. I have tried deleting the cache files from the folders - nothing changes. I have tried purging the cache for each folder from the tool bar - nothing happens.
I need to restore the thumbnails and rebuild the cache for each folder. Does anybody have an idea what is wrong or how to help?
    Many Thanks!

Okay, so I have a solution. If after purging the central cache on the server Bridge continues to not perform normally try emptying the trash. I did this and it worked.

  • Bridge Freezes While Running Firefox

Has any one else experienced the same problem? Bridge CS3 will freeze up if Firefox 3.0.15 is running at the same time. It seems to me that Firefox conflicts significantly with Adobe CS3 such as Bridge and Photoshop. If I force quit Firefox, Bridge and photoshop will un-freeze. I have expereiced this with Bridge CS4 and Firefox once as well. Is there a solution to this problem? Thanks so much in advance.
PS. I am using OS 10.5.8

Not aware of problems with Firefox, at least, this is the first time I hear
    of it.
But I wonder why you are using Bridge CS3 when you have Bridge CS4. If you
for some reason would like to open the images in CS3 you can set this to the
preferences for Bridge. Bridge CS4 is far better then CS3
And also the question, why do you use Firefox 3.0.15 while the current
    version is at 3.5.5 ?
I'm not saying you need to update right from the moment it is available but
CS3 is several years old and also Firefox is 5 upgrades further in the list

  • Bridge freezes while previewing animation

    I'm using a Mac, 16GB RAM, 200+GB free space. Bridge CC 2014
When I want to preview an animation in Bridge it freezes. I can select any folder, but selecting an animation will freeze Bridge. I can't actually quit Bridge, I have to Force Quit it and, interestingly, Finder doesn't show Bridge as "not responding".
In my Activity Monitor it shows CompressorJobController, CompressorTranscoder and dynamiclinkmediaserver as "Not Responding".
I've uninstalled Bridge, (with Adobe Cleaner), deleted the cache, reinstalled, did Disk repair permissions - still not working.

  • Adobe Bridge freezes up often on Windows running under Boot Camp

Does anyone else have this problem? I am using Bridge on Xp with Boot Camp to do my initial sort of photos and it will freeze up almost half the times when I go to delete a batch of photos.

You should probably post your question in either the Boot Camp discussions, or on Adobe's forums.

  • Bridge Freezes when Show Items From Sub Folders

Hi all. I am trying to create a portfolio of past works. Using Adobe Bridge and Show Items From Sub Folders makes it easy to go through thousands of files. One major problem though; Bridge is not stable. When I try to view a folder with thousands of files Bridge will freeze and I have to force quite.
I am running a Mac Pro with Adobe Design CS4 Premium installed. I have 16gb of Ram and have played around with Bridge's preferences and deleted Bridges preference files. I also tried all the options list on Adobe's check list.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Stephen Thompson

Bridge is not stable. When I try to view a folder with thousands of files Bridge will freeze and I have to force quite.
As a matter of fact, bridge CS4 is the most stable version of bridge, and although still not perfect yo should be able to view the folder in flat view.
It only takes a lot of time to cache if you have not done before. If cache does not start you first should try to purge cache for folder using the tools menu.
If Bridge keeps freezing first thing to try is to restart holding down option key and choose reset preferences. Set prefs again to your own wishes and try again.
You can also try to first cache the folder using the tools menu. In the folderpanel select the main folder you want to view its contents and go to the tools menu / cache and this time select build and export cache.
Depending on the amount and size of files it takes some time. Then try again.
It is able to work, as it does on my system. I have also a main folder that contains around 5000 files organized in stacks and works as it should

  • 32-Audio Unit Bridge freezes on first launch

I am running Logic Pro 9.1.6 and MainStage 2.2 on 10.7.2 on a Mac mini server (with server functions off) with 8GB. Both Logic Pro and MainStage are running fine in 32-bit mode. In 64-bit mode, after the initial boot, whichever program I begin with fails to launch the first time. The freeze point is when 32-bit Audio Bridge attempts to launch. The system continues to run fine at this point, just Logic Pro or MainStage won't come up. If I force quit whichever program I initially started, either program will subsequently launch without issue. If I take them back to 32-bit mode, no problem. If I'm willing to do an initial aborted start at startup in 64-bit, no problem. Clearly the issue isn't life threatening! But it's not right. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    LC

If you are running Logic in 64-bit mode with a variety of plugins, you're going to have to realise that things probably won't be stable until updates get released.
The AU bridge is a workaround for the transition period, and one that many third-party developers haven't had much of an opportunity to test with their products, so you may well get funky behaviour in certain things.
If you're really stuck, go back to 32-bit mode for your edits, and it's worth contacting the developer of your plugins to see what they say about AU Bridge and 64-bit compatibility.
