Bridge generates a crash message.

During a reboot, I lost one of my monitors sort of.  It turned out that one of the NVIDIA settings had somehow changed, and it took some time to find that one (how many times do you look at the NVIDIA console?).
Now I'm getting a Windows (XP) message that "Adobe Bridge has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  I have reloaded PhotoShop and Bridge (CS4), and get the message even when I try the 'CTL-click' on the icon in PhotoShop and Start menu.
I've attached the .txt file of the error, but am in no way qualified to figure it out.  Any help is wanted.  I'm an Adobe Bridge addict (in spite of the PITA cache stuff that shows up now and again).

First, thanks to everyone who replied.  The situation is now 'liveable' if not perfect. I've had one BSOD in the last two days from Bridge (which did not show up on the event handler), however there should be none.
To get to that point I ran the clean sweeper without first running the Windows remover.  If you run that, then sweeper sees nothing there - either that, or the instructions for using it, should be fixed.  I removed all CS4 thingies, and then ran the Registry cleanser (CCleaner) that was suggested, and reinstalled the PS CS4 package that includes Bridge.
Except for the last incident, it seems to work.  I worked with Bridge for about three hours before it fed me the BSOD.  My thoughts are that it should NEVER do that, but what do I know?
CCleaner is a nice intuitive package (if you take seconds to read) and seems to be the bailout here.  Do save your existing registry to the desktop (or anywhere else familiar) if you're going to use that function.
Notice: Neither the sweeper nor CCleaner removed all the files, which surprised me.  I still had all my brushes etc. in PhotoShop, among other things.
I've believed in Adobe for a decade now, and that's beginning to come apart.  All my upgrades come out of pocket, and I'll go one more round with them.  However, if they're going to be the source of introduced problems, I'll look elsewhere, and currently they seem the culprit.  Also, this site is great, but not as professional as one would expect from the "Industry Standard" for graphics.  We users should be able to ask Adobe what the heck's going on directly, and have them iron out the issues between them and say NVidia.  That's what I thought I'd paid for by buying their product.  I should not have to break my workflow and shut everything down first because I'm shutting Bridge down and don't trust that it'll not freeze my system, but I do.
Once again, thank y'all, or more properly, all y'all.

  • Bridge CS4 consistently crashing on a particular JPG image

I have this annoying issue with Bridge. CS4, version 3.0.0.464 -- I believe, the latest version; WinXP SP3. The Bridge is consistently crashing on the same image while trying to generate a thumbnail. The image is actually from some old website that is still around, available as http://infocom.elsewhere.org/gallery/ballyhoo/ballyhoo_balloon.jpg -- just a picture of some old game prop. No other app has any issues with this particular image.
Curiously enough, there is another image on the same site (http://infocom.elsewhere.org/gallery/ballyhoo/ballyhoo_ticket1.jpg) that always appears with generic thumbnail.
Purging caches does not seem to help. Can anybody confirm the issue?

I have a wider problem with Bridge CS4 WinXP PC. When I select any big folder of digital images, of my origination, I get a message warning that I should save information as Bridge has to close. How can I save Bridge data? I have stopped reporting this to Microsoft as always invited.
With the OPs single image, at least you can identify the culprit. With a folder I am given no clues.
I have tried to open the folder and selectively point to component folders. Sometimes I am lucky and Bridge sorts out the thumbnails; more frequently though I get another crash.
I wish it was possible to isolate the problem but Adobe provides no tools or guidance.
I am surprised that Bridge is so unstable at this stage of its life particularly when Photoshop and Lightroom seem to work well. Has anyone solved this problem?

  • Bridge CS3 and error message

On my old Windows XP with CS3, Bridge would often crash.  No pattern I could see.
Recently bought a new Windows 7 PC with iCore 7 processor and installed same software.  Had the same problem as above.
I also have just bought a new laptop running Windows 7 with a dual core processor.  Loaded same software and also had the same problem.
The Photoshop CS3 (and Bridge) is as up to date as Adobe provide, so is Windows on all three machines.  The common element in all three seems to be CS3, or at least, that's how it appears.
When it crashes on the two Windows 7 machines, it wants to send the following files to Microsoft.  Haven't used the old XP machine for a while and don't have any notes of those messages.
    All three files begin:   C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp\
    and carry on:
    WERB144.TMP.WERInternalMetadat.xml
    WERE5BD.tmp.appcompat.txt
    WERF632.tmp.mdmp
This is way above my knowledge.  Can anyone help, please?  What does it mean and could I fix it easily?
In the meantime, I'm doing the 30 day trial of LR2 which may be the best way to go.  But I would like to know why Bridge is behaving as it is.
    Thanks!
    John Walmsley

    Thanks, Curt.
I'll give this a try and report back.  All three PCs are using the same BitDefender Total Internet Security software so that is definitely a common feature.

  • Mozilla Firefox crashes at startup without any crash message or error whatsoever.

Today, when I double-clicked the Mozilla Firefox icon, the window popped up for one second and then the next instant moment it suddenly disappeared. I cannot access Firefox, not even in Safe Mode, Compatibility Mode, Run As Administrator or any other modes.
Tried re-installation, did not work. I do not get any crash message, it simply quits by itself. Firefox.exe appears in the Task Manager when I double-click it in Windows Explorer, and it disappears when the window disappears, the next instant moment.
I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Never encountered this sort of problem before.
There is no crash report, the crash window does not pop up, thus no crash report is generated. I cannot access the Troubleshooting Information, as I cannot operate from inside Firefox.

There is no Crash Report, because no Mozilla Crash Reporter pops up. The only file I have there is an old Crash Report, from several months ago. I already said this in the Original Post. Y U No Read?

  • When I try to open an image by double clicking on it in Bridge, I get a message telling me to log in to Creative Cloud.  I am running CS6, and the default should be to open files in Photoshop 6 or in Adobe Raw (if it's a Raw file).  I don't want to log in

When I try to open an image by double clicking on it in Bridge, I get a message telling me to log in to Creative Cloud.  I am running CS6, and the default should be to open files in Photoshop 6 or in Adobe Raw (if it's a Raw file).  I don't want to log into CC since I am not a subscriber, and this means that I have to work around, and go  back to Bridge, and tell it to open the file in Adobe RAW.  However, this does not work for older psd files which for some reason cannot be opened in RAW.  How do I return to the process of simply allowing RAW files to open automatically in Adobe RAW, and simply right clicking on the image in Bridge to bring up the option of opening it in Photoshop?

  • Adobe Bridge CS3 is crashing everytime it attempts to open.

I am running a MacBook Pro with 10.9.4.  Today when I attempted to open Bridge CS3, it crashed. No error. Just crash. Repeatedly.  I have deleted all Adobe and reinstalled, but Bridge continues to crash. I have used the "shift/option" menu to reset prefs, etc, and it still crashes. I downloaded a supposed patch for Bridge & installed it even though my APP store didn't want me to, and Bridge continues to crash.
I'm a photographer and depend on Bridge as my photo browser.
Any other ideas for me to try?

Well, I don't know what just happened to the gremlins, but get this:
On a whim, I held down only the shift key while attempting once again to open Bridge. And it OPENED without crashing.
I was afraid to let up on the key...but I did and Bridge did not crash. I browsed a couple of photo folders, closed Bridge....reopened it WITHOUT the shift key & it opened. I've now tried that several times and it's not crashing. And while I'm glad it's working, I'm not holding my breath that it will continue to work.  WEIRD.
I'm going to re-start the macbook pro and see what happens.

Sorry for the late reply. My email firewall has become a little over zealous & sent a lot of my emails straight to my junk email folder, so I have only just now discovered your reply in my junk mail folder.
The only "don't open files exceeding xxx megabytes" instruction I can find in my Prefs, is in the Bridge Prefs for Thumbnails, & mine is set at 1000mb. The biggest files I handle are bigger than 200mb so I should be able to open a few, not just one.
However, this doesn't explain why I can open a psd format file of 180mb, close it, but then can't open a RAW format file of only 26mb immediately after.
I can open the RAW file only if I restart my computer - very annoying!
However, thanks for the advice about the video card & memory.
So, I'm still stuck as to what the issue is.

  • Generate an error message that Adobe Reader 8 or later is required

    Afternoon all,
I have created a form (in Acrobat 10 Pro) with a lot of scripts and we have determined that they do not all work as desired in Adobe Reader 7 and earlier.
Is there a way to generate an error message if a user opens this form with Adobe 7 or earlier?
We would like a message to pop up advising the user that Adobe 8 or later is required for this form.
It does not have to lock them out or anything, we just want to advise them.
    Thanks much,
    Steve

    Thanks,
This is how my bosses want this done. For one part, some of the functionality we are using just doesn't exist in Reader prior to version 8. For others, the users don't really have an option to go elsewhere.
As for thescript, i am not sure how to apply it. Where do i access the initial page's open event?
I do know how to enter document level scripts (this form has several) but what does "outside of a function definition" mean and how do i do that?
    Thanks everyone,
    steve

  • Bridge CS6 keeps crashing on my macbook pro

I have been getting help from adobe support all day regarding this problem. Bride CS6 keeps crashing as soon as I open it....It worked perfectly up until this afternoon. I have latest OS X update, I uninstalled and reinstalled it. I also cleared the cache, and disabled startup scripts..nothing seems to be working..I can have it open maybe 10 seconds before it crashes. I am in the middle of editing wedding photos, and I am beyond frustrated that I am unable to work in Bridge. Someone that had similar problems, any suggestions?

I have the same problem with the Bridge on my MBPr, please let me now here if you have solved the problem. I cannot even open Camera RAW from Bridge. It crashes as well after my trying to open Camera RAW from Bridge. This problem occurred since last update I think.

  • Bridge CC keeps crashing when viewing folder

I just thought I'd post this here for anyone else that was having this same problem. I recently updated from Bridge CS6 to CC and kept experiencing crashes with CC after viewing one particular folder. I thought it was an issue with CC as CS6 didn't crash with the folder, so I went into problem solving mode to figure it out. First thing I did was go to edit - preferences - cache and purged the cache folder. I then went to the folder that caused the crash and watched the filter - label in the bottom left to see what number it was counting down as it extracted each thumbnail to be cached. Once it crashed I made note of the last number I saw, which was 33. I then went into the folder outside of bridge, counted down 33 files and removed the file from the folder which solved the problem. It appears that the file had become corrupted at some point, so that is why the new CC couldn't make a thumbnail, but CS6 could as it was already on file. So if you are experiencing crashes while viewing certain folders in Bridge, you might want to try this out.

I am experiencing the same issues with files that I have created using video editing in Photoshop CC. After rendering the files from PSD to Mp4's, and previewing within the folder, Bridge hangs and crashes. This is happening consistently whenever there's an Mp4 in the folder I've viewing, so I know they're not corrupted. I'm actually now creating a folder within the folder to "hide" the Mp4's thumbnail preview. This is the only solution I could come up with for the moment.
Can someone in Adobe-land offer some feedback or a fix for this?

  • When opening Bridge I get this message: Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in the cache preferences to correct the situation. I have tried this and still get this message. when I delete image

When opening Bridge I get this message: Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cash. Please try purging the central cache in the cache preferences to correct this problem. I did this and still get this same message. Also now when deleting images they don't delete till I close and reopen Bridge. What can i do to fix this problem?

Maybe a Preferences reset can help:
Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Bridge preferences file, including display, Adobe Photo Downloader, performance, and file-handling options.
Restoring preferences returns settings to their defaults and can often correct unusual application behavior.
Press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Option key (Mac OS) while starting Adobe Bridge.
In the Reset Settings dialog box, select one or more of the following options:
      Reset Preferences
Returns preferences to their factory defaults. Some labels and ratings may be lost. Adobe Bridge creates a new preferences file when it starts.
    Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache
Purging the thumbnail cache can help if Adobe Bridge is not displaying thumbnails properly. Adobe Bridge re-creates the thumbnail cache when it starts.
    Reset Standard Workspaces
Returns Adobe predefined workspaces to their factory default configurations.
Click OK, or click Cancel to open Adobe Bridge without resetting preferences.

Unfortunately, this code is not working, because the message is not appearing. I generated this piece of code with the WebDynpro Code Wizard, but even so is not working.
The standard application generates standard messages an places them in WDR_MESSAGE_AREA WD component, in the View MESSAGE_AREA, regarding blanks in text fields that are located on another WebDynpro component (FITE_VC_GENERAL_DATA, view GENERAL_DATA_VIEW). I put my own code in WD component FITV_FPM, in the LAYOUT_VIEW. But I wanna the messages also appear at WDR_MESSAGE_AREA WD component, MESSAGE_AREA view.
Do you know why I am having trouble generating an error message in this standard Webdynpro? It is not possible to generate an error message to appear in another Webdynpro component, but the same WD application?
    Regards guys!

    Hi
you can store message ID, message no and message type in the context node in ur exit and make this context node interface enabled. Map this node to the component where you want todisplay the message. read the context node .
Call the method for displaying the messages and pass message id, no and type from context node.
invalidate this context node using method "invalidate" from interface if_wd_context_node.
    Regards
