Bridge hangs on batch rename

I would like to run Bridge CS5 to import images from CF cards (among other reasons, to eliminate the need for PhotoMechanic for importing) in the following way:
1. acquire images from multiple CF cards from multiple cameras using the yyyymmdd sequence
2. sort images by Date Created (i.e. the camera date/time taken)
3. batch rename all sorted files into the sequence "tfnnnnnn"
4. move various selected images into a new directory(s)
This process works up to and including the #3 (batch rename) function.  However, after file rename takes place, Bridge CS5 hangs and will not terminate.   The resulting screen display is stuck with the "yyyymmdd" file names.   I have to cancel bridge and restart.  Examination of the directory after the rename indicates the rename was successful with each renamed file having an image file and an associated xmp file and all files are accounted for.
Is this a problem with Bridge or have I done something wrong?
OS is WinXP 32 bit.

I just installed photoshop on win7 64bit.  things work correctly

  • Bridge CS5 Win Batch Rename sets milliseconds to 000

Am using BridgeCS5 (Windows7) to Batch Rename (either during download from Lexar Card Reader using Bridge, or during download from Canon 7D with Cable via Bridge- or to batch rename files already in a folder within Bridge)
when I use YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS_milliseconds, milliseconds are set to 000 (thus photos are not in order necessarily if photos taken during burst mode), yet if I use YYYYMMMDD_HHMMSS_milliseconds, it sorts properly.
Have tried this multiple times, and it is *usually* reproducable - I did a batch rename on a subset of photos, and Bridge got the rename right, but then did a batch rename on the entire lot of photos, and preview said it would set the milliseconds to 000, even on the photos it got right in the subset-experiment
I need to use numeric month designation (MM) for proper file sequencing, as alpha (MMM) puts months out of chronological order.
I did NOT notice this problem in the past (say, 3-4 months ago) but it is possible I missed it.
I am NOT syncing multiple cameras or trying to integrate files from multiple cards.
BridgeCS5 is up to date with all patches.
(I checked the EXIF data on the files themselves, and it is correct, the milliseconds denote the proper image sequence, the camera is recording the files to card in correct sequence - in fact, exloring the card, all images are in proper sequence)
By having files renamed (without a sequence number added to the batch rename configuration) with milliseconds to 000, not only are they out of order, but Bridge is willing to have several files with the same exact name.
I'd be interested in a solution that allows me to continue using Bridge only for my workflow.
    thanks - stir

    Hi-
I see milliseconds (Canon 7D) listed as
    (see Advanced tab)
3rd folder down titled "exif Properties"
eg: exif:DateTimeOriginal: 2011-07-30T10:43:12.64-04:00  whereby the camera has ordered the photos using 10:43:12.64, 10:43:12.99, etc when writing to the card.  (I intepret the .64 and the .99 in these examples to be the milliseconds - am I mistaken?)
Realizing of course, the fact that Bridge is setting milliseconds to 000 is not the biggest concern, the biggest concern is that the photos are out of order when they are imported using the Batch Rename YYYYMMDD (but not when using YYYYMMMDD - notice the three M's there)
This error occurs whether telling Bridge to sort specifically via Time or not - Bridge (when using YYYYMMDD) will reorder the images even if I don't add HHMMSS and milliseconds to the sort, or even if I do - the problem seems to be the YYYYMMDD - it may also be other Date-sorting, but so far I have only used the one (that doesn't work) and the other (that does, but is useless for keeping the dates/months in numerical order)
Again, on CF card, the photos are properly ordered, as evidenced by the subject matter and the milliseconds shown in the DateTimeOriginal exif data
But in Bridge, when batch renaming, the order of the photos is mixed up, and this is evidenced by the new file names (say, if I add a sequence number to the rename)
btw, I have Bridge rename set to preserve XMP data and original file name, but whether I do or not doesn't seem to matter.
I'm shooting JPGs in Burst Mode (shouldn't matter, as the files on card are properly ordered)
(so far I have had 2 Canon reps tell me there are no milliseconds, but the exif data clearly shows that, I think? - I have sent them a screen shot of the file info, showing the exif field, and have not since heard a response saying "nuh uh"... it's still early in the day, though they normally respond within 30 minutes)
Thank you for your time - Stir

  • PS 6 W7 64 - Bridge when I batch rename both monitors turn into film strip with no way to get back. please help me

Is there something I am missing about settings with a second monitor? When I batch rename in bridge both monitors (or if I shut one, the remaining one) go into uge vertical images that stream horizontally, with no way to get back to grid or normal view even though essentials is active.

Try a reset (click on that down pointing arrow) and also  if you have a Mac, toggle the green resize button. It usually forces Bridge to resize to the screen.
If worse comes to worse, reset Bridge's Preferences as explained here: Troubleshoot errors, freezes | Adobe Bridge | Windows, Mac OS
When I use a external larger monitor, I select just that monitor.

  • Bridge 3.0.0.464 won't Batch Rename

    Hi,
Just ran the update for Bridge (and others) to solve on problem, and now Bridge won't batch rename files. I'm trying to rename 270 NEF and JPEG files (linked), which usually runs just fine, but now Bridge just hangs with the "rename" button depressed and does nothing.
Anyone have a thought on this? It would be appreciated!

You may need to purge the Bridge cache after the update and let it rebuild.

  • No photos after batch rename

    MacBook
    CS3
    iPhoto '08
I tried to rename some photos in iPhoto and now i can't see them. Every time I open iPhoto it tells me that it is rebuilding thumbnail caches yet still no photos. This is what I did:
In Bridge went to Batch Rename.
    Rename in same folder
    New filenames
    Sequence Letter Uppercase
    Date Time Date Created YYYYMMDD
    Text
    Sequence Number 2
I did this and it renamed the iPhoto thumbnail bridge. I then changed the filename back to "iPhoto" and now there are no photos.
How do I get them back.

Once you upgrade to Yosemite you need to upgrade the iPhoto application to iPhoto 9.6 from the App Store.
Also, if your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on the library before iPhoto 9.6 an open it.  The updater will be located in the Applications/Utilities folder.
You iPhoto Library should be located in your Home/Pictures folder.  It is there and how big is it according to the Finder?  If you're still having problems connect the two Macs to gather via ethernet cable, Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire  or other direct method and just do a direct  copy, i.e. drag the library from the 2009 Mac to the Pictures folder of the 2012 Mini.

  • Adobe Bridge Batch Rename Stopped Working

ive been using bridge exclusively to rename/
organize my files and today for some odd reason it just will not work. i select the files i wish to rename and then select batch rename and name/numer the files as ive always done before and when i click rename nothing happens at all. i cleared out my cache to no avail and im now officially stumped. any help is appreciated. thanks!

Your problem does seem odd.  Difficult to troubleshoot by remote, so run a few tests and see if you can narrow the problem down.
By any chance are you trying a batch re-name of files on an external drive?  If so may be permissioning problem.
Do you have this problem in all folders or just one?  If one there may be a contaminated file or name (i.e. flower.jpeg.jpeg)
To avoid fouling up your files copy a dozen or so and put in "test"  folder then run these tests.
Can you do a simple rename of one file?
Can you do a batch rename of one file?
If the above is true can you do batch rename for all files in this folder?
If so does the extension make any difference - jpeg, psd, etc.?

  • Batch rename in Adobe CC Bridge does not work. Is there any fix for this problem?

    Hi,
I'm using Adobe CC Bridge to batch rename a folder of RAW files. Version 6.0.1.6.  I've got the latest Mac Pro running Maverick.  I set up the parameters in the Batch Rename tool, but when I hit Rename, nothing happens.  Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?  Is anyone else experiencing this?  Adobe can you fix this bug?

I am experiencing this same (or related) bug with using the batch rename inside of Bridge CC (Mac OS X 10.9.5).
First I filter out a subset of a folder of images that I want to batch-rename, then on the 12 or so thumbs I selected, I invoke the "batch-rename" dialog box... it presents its usual options, which work the first time. Subsequent attempts fail.
I close the search filter, I re-type my filter, I close the bridge window, re-open the bridge window, etc. to no avail.
It's interesting to note at this point, the program won't quit; it has to be force-quit.

  • Adobe Bridge CC Batch Rename and File Extensions

I use Adobe Bridge CC on my macbook pro that is running OS X 10.8.5  When I batch rename files within Bridge it automatically drops the file extension. I am able to add the extension within the naming process but would prefer if it simply defaulted to the existing extension of the files being renamed. On occasion it does do this and then the next time it is gone. What am I doing wrong?

I don't think there is any way in which you can add to the built-in functions…
Unless this is actually provided by one of the Adobe start-up scripts… ( I've not see it when digging about )
You would probably need a scripted solution that can give you drop down menu of the extra options you want.

  • Batch rename in bridge

i am having trouble with batch renaming. it was working fine previously and not sure what happened to cause it not to work. i am using a mac osx 10.6.3/ CS4.
basically when i click on batch rename, it won't let me select "rename in same folder". it also will not highlight MAC OS in the compatibility line. i have restarted the program, computer, and cleared the cache. (same problem when i try to rename in a different folder)  any ideas?

I am not familar with the workings of a Mac computer.  You would get a better response to post in the Mac Bridge forum.
I suspect you need to reset the preferences which in a PC is press and hold the Ctrl key and click on start icon for Bridge.  You will get a reset window with 3 options.

  • Issue with Adobe Bridge batch rename crashing

Hi, I have been trying to rename photo files in Adobe Bridge CC using the batch rename tool. I have just started using CC apps. All the updates are done. It crashes after doing just a few files. Started with 40 files at a time, crashed. Empty folder cache. Tried with 20 files, worked for a few times then crashed again. Tried 10 files and it crashed immediately. I found directions online (unfortunately it was for CS5, but I assume it's similar to CC). Any ideas on what to do differently? I really need to get these photos renamed and to a client tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any help.
    Cheryl

Video card is updated, though I've been getting an error message on it.
I'm not sure what this should have to do with your batch rename problem. Your specs seem more then sufficient and batch renaming does only save the files you already have cached.
First check if you have enough free space left on your disk (at least 10 - 15 % free space is needed for good operation of your system and apps) and also try to reset preferences for Bridge by holding down contrl key while restarting Bridge. Check reset preferences from the pop up window and try again.

  • Batch Renaming in Bridge CS6

I take pictures of a swim team and I keyword tag each image with the swimmers name.  I would like to batch rename and save in a new folder the files so they have the original filename and then the keyword name.  I don't see that as an option in the metadata drop down or any of the other drop downs.  Is there a way to do it?  I have exported it and included the metadata information and from my PC I can see it in the lower picture data, but I am sharing with a Mac user and it is easiest if the name of the swimmer is in the filename.  I have over 1100 pictures and renaming them manually would be too time consuming.  Thank you for your input.  MB

    Wait, I just caught this:

Are you referring to the 3-letter ".jpg" extension being deleted?  You can't do that, of course!  If that is still the case, you'll have to add it manually to each JPEG file.

  • How can I export the saved preset settings for Batch Renaming on Bridge?

I've developed a few Batch Renaming presets and want to share them with my team, but couldn't find where they are saved.

but couldn't find where they are saved.
I can only provide you with the path for a Mac but Windows should be something similar
User library (By default hidden per OSX7, use menu go with option to reveal)/ Application Support / Adobe / Bridge CSxx / Batch Rename Settings. Inhere are the saved files with the extension '.setting'

  • Bridge removing file extension after batch rename

    Hi All,
I've been having trouble with what appears to be a problem with Bridge in Photoshop CS2. I'm well aware this is an older version but, in this case, I don't think that should matter. Here is my situation:
After batch renaming jpeg files, I've had a problem with Bridge simply stripping off the file extension on all the newly renamed files. This never happens right away...always later. In other words, I'll batch rename a folder full of photos without issue, note that the rename was successful, and then return to that same folder a short time later to find white thumbnails and missing file extensions. This has happened exactly the same way on two different computers - and always with the delay.
This is getting to be very annoying. Has anyone had or heard of a similar issue? Thanks very much...

First use the menu tools / cache / purge cache for folder, if still in trouble restart Bridge holding down option key to refresh preferences
