Bridge has a problem

Whenever Bridge opens, I get this alert. I am using the trial version of CS6 Design Standard on OSX 10.8.2
I tried doing as requested and then Bridge freezes when I open a new folder. I don't want to buy the software if it has a problem.

Omke, it OP never had previous versions then he would not have Bridge5.plist.  But the rest of it applies.
That would only be the case if the OP never started it but as soon as the warning message pops up the app has started and also then created a plist file and a cache folder if it was not already there
However, there is a significant change in OS between OSX 10.6 and OSX 10.7. Since 10.7 Apple decided to hide the user library by default, probably because many people tried things they better not had done and then called the help desk...
Up to 10.6 the user library is normal visible in the user library and from 10.7 and above you must use a little trick to reveal it. The easiest way is to to select the menu Go and when the fly out menu shows itself press option key and that brings the option to select the user library in view.
A more permanent solution should be done using Terminal to add a Unix code, sounds trickier then it is and when doing a google search for hidden library in Mac Os their will be enough information to get id done with much effort :-0

Cannot open CS6 Bridge.  Always the same ERROR: Bridge has a problem and cannot read the cache

Try this.  This is for CS6 but substitue CC and Bridge 6.
~library/caches/Adobe/Bridge CS6 and inhere should be 2 files:
    Adobe Bridge Plug-in Cache
and the folder called Cache. Inhere should be 4 folders called '254', '1024', 'data' and 'full'
All those folders carry the content of the respective quality of the thumbs and preview as well as 100 % cache and Bridge database.
Any way, Since you have not used Bridge you have no relevant amount of cache and I would suggest you quit both PS and Bridge and manual delete both the items (plug in and folder called cache at the end of the Bridge CS6 path mentioned above.
(both files will refresh itself after a restart of Bridge).
To be on the save side also visit in same user library the folder Preferences and look for the file called "com.adobe.bridge5.plist" (yes it is Bridge 5 that comes with CS6, all Adobe apps have their own version number and they are presented in the same Suite version. CS6 has PS version 13 and Bridge version 5 )
also drag this file to the trash.
Then hold down option key (alt) while starting Bridge and this should give you the option to reset the preferences as mentioned earlier in this thread.
Choose reset prefs and try again.

Supply pertinent information for quicker answers
The more information you supply about your situation, the better equipped other community members will be to answer. Consider including the following in your question:
    Adobe product and version number
    Operating system and version number
The full text of any error message(s)
What you were doing when the problem occurred
    Screenshots of the problem
Computer hardware, such as CPU; GPU; amount of RAM; etc.

You correct it by leaving Bridge alone until it finishes rebuilding its cache, overnight if necessary.

I have master suite cs6. on mac osx. bridge has been quitting unexpectedly. Also, getting message at start up that states that "bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation" I have purged the cache several times and adjusted settings with no change. I also downloaded the entire suite and installed. Do I need to uninstall all of the programs before installing the suite? There is not an option to install only Bridge from the install package.

    Maria,
Topic or subject titles should be clear, pertinent and concise so that individual users can tell at a glance if they can help or not.
That field is not for attempting to fit your entire question in there.
Please keep this in mind next time you post.  Thank you.

my macbook pro was repaired and since then i can't get nor photoshop cs5 or bridge cs5 to initialize. a window appears that says it has initializing problems due to an icc profile issue.
there appear two error messages. the first one says that there has been a problem sincronizing because of a programme error. the second one appears after you clicked ok on the first window and says that photoshop couldn't be initialized because the icc profile is invalid.
does anyone know if i have to delete any system or photoshop preference? the illustrator is also having troubles. thanks

thanks! what finnally worked better was renaming the «settings» folder in te «color folder» in the library with ~before the name. now indesign is asking me for thw icc profiles but still works, so i asume i can reinstall color settings only for indesign and go on.

  • Bridge has started to destroy our JPEGs; known problem?

    Hi,
half an hour ago something - possibly Bridge - has obviously started to destroy our JPEGs. We first noticed strange artefacts in the Bridge previews; then we were shocked when we discovered that the files themselves were altered (without changing the modification date of the file). We checked this by connecting the external drive that contains the files to another computer: It's not a problem with the previews, the files themselves are destroyed. (On this other computer GIMP gives the error "Corrupt JPEG data: 3841 extraneous bytes before marker 0xd9" when opening the file I've attached to this post.)
Fortunately the NEF files are unaltered. A check of the hard drive shows no problems.
We're not 100% shure that Bridge is causing this - but since Bridge was the only program open at the time and since the problem developed while using Bridge it seems very probable to us that Bridge is involved in this phenomenon.
Did you observe anything similar? Is this a known problem? We didn't find anything when searching Google or this forum.
    Thanks for your help!
(We're using Adobe Bridge CS5 4.0.5.11 on an iMac with Mac OS X 10.7.5)

    - mainly (only? I don't know exactly) files are affected where we added metadata;
The clue about no change in modification date in the first post would mean you did not alter the files. However this changes things because you seem to have done so.
In normal use while adding metadata or rename the file needs to be saved again to apply the changes. While doing so Bridge updates the thumbs and previews to reflect the new situation.
If this save action would be the cause of the destroyed jpegs they should have shown so immediate after applying the changes. But yes, we all are in a hurry and have a short memory
If you have pointed Bridge to another folder while the save was still in progress then you would not notice it but also the cache is not likely to rebuild until you point Bridge again to the folder.
The moment you point Bridge to that folder first the thumb rebuilds and then the preview to reflect the changes. Because the modification date did not change to the date you saw the changes happening it is likely the problem has been caused before but you have not noticed earlier until you pointed Bridge to this folder which started the recaching of the files (only modification of the cache file, not the original jpeg) to reflect the new situation.
Don't use Gimp myself but a jpeg is a jpeg and an international standard so they both should be able to read and write correct files.
Therefor it stays a strange problem and you should back up your files frequently in case this starts happen again. If it is a one off we keep wondering what it might have been but if it repeats I would first suspect the disk (running a health scan is not always pointing to other problems like correct read write permissions and also folders can get corrupted for strange reasons).
BTW, I never have been a fan of RAID, to expensive and to much space needed. A simple back up scheme with different disks has always done the trick for me.

  • "Adobe Bridge has stopped working"

Just installed CS2 Version 9.0.  Having "Adobe Bridge has stopped working"  Windows 7 Pro 64.  Is there a solution to this problem?
    Thanks?

    Curt,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Bridge had worked before.  When I refer to BRIDGE I mean that I go to a
folder of photos in PS and select file/browse to open.  This feature
does work with other folders of photos.  It was when I downloaded photos
from my cell phone into a folder and in PS went to file/browse the
browser will open and then I get a message "Adobe Bridge has stopped
    working."
I can still go to another photo folder in PS and select file/browse and
it will work, the problem is with the photos from my cell photo.
    Do you have any ideas.
I have the latest  versions of PS.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hi,
when i actualize camera raw from 6.5 to 6.6 the preview can`t give me right preview after 1 adjustment in camera raw.Image apears like when we open it in camera raw and it last few seconds with the yellow exclamation mark.
Months ago the only solution i found after several instals was to turn back to camera raw 6.5.
Now im trying beta bridge cs6 and problem come back for me again.
I use Nikon D3x with 14 bits ~49MB .nef files in Windows 7 64 bits.
Is any one have same problem? And why only in 6.6 (and new camera raw 7.0) and not in 6.5?

There is just an icon. The camera raw add-on is the latest usable update for Windows, the canon 6d is listed as compatible. Has anyone an idea what to do?
The Canon 6D id NOT supported by ACR 6.7.1. It was supported for the very first time in ACR 7.3 whch requires CS6 to run.
Therefore you will never be able to open raw CR2 files from the 6D directly in CS5.
If you do not plan on upgrading, you can download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 (always use the latest version, it's not tied to your version of Photoshop at all), install it like any other application and then run it on each batch of CR2 files to convert them to raw DNG files that you can then open in your version of Photoshop and ACR.

Our Bridge has been acting very strange. It keeps giving a dialog box of "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. ... purge central cache" For one, I can't find the central cache and two, I've purged the cache in bridge. Shouldn't that help? There's just all kinds of weird stuff going on. I suppose it does have something to do with the central cache, so maybe someone can tell me where to find it.
When I use the burn/dodge tool sometimes it drags and staggers and takes forever to complete whatever I'm burning/dodging. When I try to delete an image from the dock, it won't disappear but it won't display either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The Central Cache is the Bridge Cache.
It's referred as the Central Cache to differentiate it from the individual folder's cache or even the individual image cache.

  • "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo."

    ***** UPDATE July 17, 2013 @ 9:16 am Central Time (UTC -06:00)*****
After Creating a fresh catalog I have been able to clarify the issue a bit. This error appears to only show up in Folders exported as Catalogs. Particularly when I try and open that exported catalog.
I suspect there is a problem with the way Lightroom 5 is exporting these catalogs. I didn't have this issue with LR4.4, but it shows up any time I export a folder as a catalog within LR5, regardless of whether or not it is exported from an upgraded catalog or a fressly created catalog.
It looks like fixing the problem is going to be time consuming, but not impossible. So far I have confirmed that these files - reported as throwing this error by Lightroom 5 ("Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo .... You will not be able to make adjustment to this photo.") - can be imported into a new/existing catalog by multiple methods without carrying over the errors displayed in the exported catalog.
This is frustrating and adds additional steps to my workflow, but isn't undoable. Of course it would be nice if LR5 worked as correctly and exported folders as catalogs without throwing errors when those new catalogs were opened...
Is anyone else seeing this problem when they open catalogs created by "exporting a folder as a catalog"?
    ***** Original Post *****
I'm really confused. I am consistently getting this message on certain exports, but not others...
    When it happens:
    1) "Export this Folder as a Catalog" from a specific folder within my Working Catalog
         Select the location
         Select "Export negative files"
When I open the NEW Catalog - ALL the photos reflect this error message: "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo .... You will not be able to make adjustment to this photo."
When I go to the Develop tab it displays "There was an error working with the photo" over the photo, but I can edit it... When I close the catalog and re-open it, the changes don't reflect UNTIL I go back to the Develop tab, then the thumbnail will reflect the change. But the system still insists that it has a problem with the file...
    2) The same thing happens when I export the file from my Working Catalog as an image of the same format - be it tif, dng, or psd, or RAW files. Not sure what I was refering to here (can't duplicate today - July 17).
    When it doesn't happen:
When I export the file to the auto import folder for my Portfolio catalog (original format). This seems to work...
Why am I so confused? Because all of these catalogs are located on the same drive (which is different than the drive my Working Catalog is on). When they are auto imported to my Portfolio catalog they seem to work, but everything else throws an error sinse I upgraded to LR5!
    My System:
Windows 7 Pro SP1 (fully up to date) 64-bit
    Intel Core i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz
    Installed RAM: 12.0 GB
My Lightroom 5 Working Catalog doesn't seem to be having any problems...
This problem is frustrating enough that I may go back to LR4. I can't have my archived files compromised...

Suggestion to all who encounter problems like this: if you've installed 3rd party memory cards (ram), go back to your original ram, or at least the brand of ram that your computuer came with.
    Long story, short:
I had the same error message in LR5.  It only happened with several images in a given import.  If I deleted all of the images from the import and reimported the images, a different set of images would have the error message.  The images that originally had the message would no longer have the problem.  I deleted and reimported several times while observing the same behavior.
Not only did lightroom give me issues, but Bridge had problems reading the files, and the previews of the problem images would not show up in Finder (Mac speak).  This ruled out, to me at least, that it was a software issue.  I went out and purchased a new card reader and had the same problems.  I tried a different card with different images and got the same problems.
After I contacted Adobe, they had me upload two files with the error, and they said the files were corrupted due to faulty hardware.  I took my mac book pro (13in early 2011 w/ 10.7.5) to the apple store and they ran a diagnostic test amoung other test and we came up with nothing.  Everything seemed to be good on the hardware side.  After some research the Rep. asked me about my ram (memory cards).  I had in the past installed two 3rd party cards to boost my ram from 4GB to 8GB. The rep. suggested that I go home and test the issue with the original ram my computer came with before we go any farther.  So far, I haven't had any issues.
    I hope this helps,
    Josef

  • Bridge CS6 Cache problem

Have installed Photoshop CS6 and in using Bridge I get the message "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation". If purge the central cache as instructed, on the start up of Bridge I get the same message and are unable to use Bridge.
I am on a Mac using OSX 10.7.4
    Your help will be appreciated

"Removing the Cache manual is fast, you only need time to rebuild cache,
but that is something you can do with one click on the button an let it
run overnight."  How do I do that?
The path provided is for a Mac, there should be a similar path for Windows, maybe Curt can provide you this. The principals stay the same, you quit bridge, dump the cache file manual, restart Bridge (builds a new, empty but fresh cache folder) and when you point Bridge to a folder it start building the cache according your settings (ACR, HQ preview etc.)
If you have a lot of subfolders just select the main folder, use the menu view / show items from subfolders and this means your main folder shows all the content of your subfolders in the content panel.
This takes a while and according to your amount of files and file size as well as processor speed it can take several hours before it is finished. For best practice start this procedure as 'last of the day', leave your PC on for the night and let Bridge do its job. It takes a lot of resources and time for Bridge to cache so if it is the only task your PC has to do the better it will do it

I use windows & the problem is with photoshop cs5

First Aid is to reset preferences.  Hold down the Ctrl key and Start Bridge.  You will get a reset window with 3 options.  You can choose all 3.
If you moved files or used a registry cleaner you many have lost links.  In that case the Cleaner Tool and reinstall is recommended.
