Bridge in CS3 resets

Hello all -
When I use Bridge, I flip through the folders, do my thing and then hit the red x to close. When I open Bridge again, it resets everything back to the default layout - not my last looked in folder ... or wherever I was the last time I had it up. I made a new workspace as well - and this also resets.
In another post, I read something about "autoload" and I cannot find this ... to see if this is the culprit or not. Anyone know where I can find this in CS3 or if that's the not the problem - what I can do to fix this? When I was on my iMac (I'm on a Mac Book Pro now), Bridge would pop back open to where I had left off and I didn't know it was a setting - or something I would miss until it was gone!

I have tried every conceivable variation of shutting it down and closing it.
However, nothing seems to help. I cannot find this "auto load" thing in PS and
it sounds like it's different from PC to Mac - me being on the Mac. So if
someone can point to this window and where it's exactly located - I'll check
it out. Right now, going through all the Prefs ... I am not seeing it.
There is only proper way and that is with at least one window open choose
quit (actually 3 ways to quit, Cmd+Q, icon in the Dock and menu Adobe
Bridge/quit,- but you do understand that and they all have the same result).
Having multiple windows open the last used window where you have altered
things will be again showing with same content (not same location in content
window, it starts at the top.
As not having installed CS3 anymore the place for the 'start at login'
option for CS4 and CS5 is in the preferences advanced tab.
It might be in the general tab for CS3 as Curt states but as said, can't
check this but to my recall it was also called 'start at login'. That said,
also check your PS CS3 prefs, might be in there also.
You did not mention if you already have tried to refresh the preferences as
per my earlier post?

  • Bridge in CS3 Freezes

When I open Bridge in CS3 (ver. 2.1.1.9) no preview or thumbnails appear. When I try to change folders, Bridge immediately freezes up and I have to use Windows Task Manager to end the program. I can see photos in other viewers (Lightroom) so the photos are there. I have turned off my PC (windows XP Pro) a couple of times but still the same problem. I have tried a soft restart but still the same problem. I tried resetting Bridge preferences to default workspace, but it didn't work.

When you say "resetting Bridge preferences did not work", what does that mean. Did you get the reset window and choose all 3 options, and it did not change anything, or you could never get the reset window?

  • Bridge for CS3 very unstable

This software is garbage. It crashes frequently, the files take an eternity to load, the RAW thumbnails don't display adjustments, etc. etc. I'm EXTREMELY angry at Adobe for foisting this trash on loyal customers. Is Bridge for CS4 better? I really don't want to spend another $200 for another turkey.

    >I'm going to have to upgrade to get a functioning version of Bridge.
No, that is not true, however you will benefit from CS4 in PS as well in Bridge :-)
    From start off:
Do system maintenance with at least checking permissions using Apple's Disk Utility.
Bridge should be installed (version 2.1.1.9) at the root level application folder,
Quit Bridge and in user library go to the preferences folder, inhere find and delete the plist folder for Bridge2 to the trash. In the same library go to caches / adobe / Bridge CS3 and inhere delete the cache folder also manually to the tras.
restart Bridge holding down option key and choose delete preferences in the menu that appears. After Bridge has restarted reset the preferences for Bridge to your wishes (preferable High Quality thumbs).
Go to the folder with your files and let Bridge cache it first. This takes some time depending on amount and size of files.
Try again and even with 2GB RAM you should have a working application. If not something is wrong with either your install or your user account.

  • Bridge preferences keep resetting.  Please help!

This is SO frustrating!  I just upgraded to CS4 and my Bridge preferences keep resetting back to factory defaults.  I have reinstalled the entire CS4 and I have also restarted Bridge holding down the option key and still nothing.  I have also repaired disk permissions upon suggestion from Adobe Support.
Does anyone have any tips on what to do?
Furthermore, also, in Camera Raw my settings don't take either.  In previous versions of ACR all I had to do was click the option once and everything in ACR would come up the same in subsequent openings.  For example...ACR pops up in a very small window, in CS3 you could click the "full screen" option and each time you opened ACR, it would open full screen.  Now every time I open ACR, it opens small and I have to click the screen larger.  Very tedious.  Same with changing the colorspace under each image...previously I had set it to sRGB and it would stick, however, now with CS4 every time I change it, it reverts back to Adobe 1998. Ugh.
Can anyone help?  I have been on the phone for hours with Adobe support and everyone seems to lead me on a wild goose chase with no results.
I am running Mac OS 10.5.8.
    Thank you!

The easiest way I can think of is to use your original install disk for
OSX10.5 and choose the option to archive and install a new system.
The Archive and Install option makes a copy of your old library and creates
a fresh new one leaving all the other existing files intact.
However, to be sure first make a back up of all your important files from
your user account (including the Document, pictures, music movie etc
folders) if you not already have done so (something you should have... )
First of all use the Adobe uninstaller to uninstall you CS4 copy (it should
    be in the utilities folder)
Then run the Archive and Install option from the install disk. You should
start up from this disk otherwise it won't work. When finished restart OSX
and use software update to get the latest version of OSX 10.5
    Reinstall CS4 and try again.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Adobe bridge and CS3 I have down loaded trial version...

two problems--when i down load my pics- jpeg&raw- from EOS5D camera into adobe CS3 bridge i only get jpeg images not raw--my zoom browser does it!
also when i double ck on thumbnails in BR i get raw processing--when i then go to photo shop by cking -save objects-when images opens up in phot shop i can not make any color adjustments--I have wasted 4 hrs with adobe techs--They had me remove adobe CS3 4 x and reload--problem still exists--is there adjustments in BR that affects this situation..?
br carmen-i have vista operating system

Vista has a problem with Canon cameras, not Bridge's fault. Copy the images directly to the hard drive. Check MSFT for any updates...
The "Save Object" is for making Smart Objects and from the sounds of it, you are unfamliar with the concept? You need to double-click the Workflow options in Camera Raw and uncheck the Smart Objects options...then images will open as images not Smart Objects.

  • Slideshow feature in Adobe Bridge in CS3

I use Mac OS X 10.5.5 with Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Bridge CS3. I am using a Sony DSL a350 and shoot my images in Sony's raw format which they label as ARW. Photoshop recognizes this format. But, if I wish to save my images in a readily recognizable raw format, the only option offered is Photoshop Raw. This works fine except that when I want to view these Photoshop Raw files using Bridge's slideshow feature, all I get is a tiny thumbnail instead of a full screen image. Strangely enough, when I double click the image in Bridge, it opens up the full file.

    > Photoshop recognizes this format. But, if I wish to save my images in a readily recognizable raw format, the only option offered is Photoshop Raw.
When opening a Camera Raw format (such as your Sony ARW format) you HAVE to save it out as a TIFF, PSD or JPEG out of Photoshop. You CAN'T save it out of Photoshop as a raw digital capture because once you open it via Camera Raw it ain't raw any more...it's processed.
Photoshop Raw is not for digital captures, it's literally a raw format meaning you have to spec out the byte order, etc.

  • Lightroom 1.1 - Adobe Camera RAW 4.1 (Bridge, Photoshop CS3) problem

    Dear all,
I am having some problems with the appearance of files developed in adobe lightroom 1.1 or in adobe camera raw 4.1 from e.g. bridge or photoshop cs3. When developing in lightroom the images look great, however when using acr 4.1 and the same xmp sidecar settings imported from lightroom, the image in acr looks very pale in comparison. For example when using the export into photoshop option in Lightroom, the image in PS3 looks very pale to the one in lightroom. The same problem persists with developing using ACR 4.1 from bridge. I have turned autotoning in ACR off. Also in the color management of PS CS3, the desaturate checkbox is UNchecked.
I am using an icc profile for my 30" cinema display, calibrated with colory eyes pro and a spyder2.
Has anybody had similar problems with ACR 4.1 or am I just doing something horribly simple wrong?
    Thanks for your help!
    Immanuel

    Thomas,
thanks for your reply. In Mac OS X Preview the images look all good and very much like what I see in Lightroom. In any case not as pale or like with a slight white overcast to what I see when using ACR 4.1 from Bridge or Photoshop CS3. In PS color settings, preserving embedded profiles is checked. Yes, it seems to me as well that this is some color management issue. The 30" Cinema display was calibrated using Color Eyes Pro and Spyder2 to Gamma 2.2 and 6500 temp. However, even when reverting to the standard Apple color profile for the monitor, the problem persists.
    No luck so far...

  • Tutorial Resources for Adobe Bridge PS CS3 for Windows?

Can anyone provide links to some really good Adobe Bridge CS3 tutorials? I'd liked to find resources other than those found from within Bridge it's self. So far, my Google-ing hasn't produced the desired results. Thanks.

If you ASSIGN your monitor profile to an image already CONVERTED to sRGB in PS, it looks like Windows viewer. This is because Windows viewer is not color managed
If I understand you, then any sRGB image displayed on my monitor in a non-color-managed app will be more saturated and redder than it should be because its pixel values are being interpreted as if they were in my monitor's custom wider-than-sRGB colorspace when in fact they're not.  When displayed in PS, Photoshop "knows" that they're in sRGB and my monitor isn't, and adjusts accordingly.  Right?
Here are some shots from the MS Color control panel applet comparing my monitor's gamut (color shape) to sRGB (white/gray shape):
    From "below":
    From the side:
    From "above":
This explains why there's more red, but curiously I don't see the same effect in the green, which has an even wider gamut as shown below.  Maybe the green levels in this image aren't high enough to be shifted appreciably?

  • RAW CR2 files cause Bridge / PS CS3 to quit after Snow Leopard

    OS: Snow Leopard Fresh Install
    Camera: Canon XTi
    Files: Canon RAW CR2
Issue: Access of ANY kind to a RAW file causes the app(s) to quit.
Detail: Everything was fine in Leopard but for various reasons I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard. Wiped the drive and installed clean. Installed iLife 09 and then did any Apple updates. I then installed CS3 and did all the Adobe updates (Almost 600 MB). Used PS for some graphic stuff with no issue and thought everything was good until today. Went to Bridge and simply tried to navigate to my RAW photos and it quit. Tried opening a RAW in PS... same thing. Checked the ACR version and is was 4.6 but I reinstalled anyway... same. So, I uninstalled the fresh copy of CS3 and reinstalled to be safe... same. OK, now it was testing time. Navigated to the RAW files in Finder and can view them fine. I can quick preview them, open them in preview etc, so the OS raw support is fine. Same thing happens just trying to open the file with PS CS3 since it open using RAW.
I removed the RAW plugin and Bridge stayed open fine and displayed the files as generic thumbs. Put the plugin back and it dies again.
In Leopard the RAW Prefs were set to store the settings in the RAW database instead of sidecar files and I have tried putting the database file in from the pre-snow leopard backup. No luck. I am totally stumped any any ideas are welcome. I am about to restore the Leopard image.
    Thanks in advance,
    Razz

    Thanks for the idea Carolyn.
Unfortunately it did not fix it. I had tried it before and tried it again after your post. Thing is, it can't be the cache since the install of bridge has never been used. As soon as I load it and try to go view my files it quits. I would expect this from an upgraded SL install but an erase & install with fresh CS3 and all the OS and Adobe updates should be smooth. I really don't want to go back to Leopard but have to be able to mess with my photos. Why would removing the raw plugin stop the failure? It is 1 file, the correct version and fresh installed. Not sure what to do except maybe start over and yet that could still fail and takes a LONG time. I hate to upgrade to CS4 since I am not sure where the issues is.
Maybe install SL again over the top as an upgrade?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks, Razz

  • Colours in Bridge/Photoshop CS3

After editing images in Photoshop CS3 (using a calibrated Eizo monitor S2231W) and viewing them in Bridge (whether PSD or JPG) in the presentation modus, the colours change a bit and become oversaturated when I change the presentation from "fit in" to 100%(by scrolling the mouse wheel). The same oversaturated colours appear also in other Windows viewers (e.g. Magix, irfanview). Of course I can use a different custom preset on the monitor when viewing the images on the monitor and reduce the saturation there, but the colour change will remain. So how can I see in Photoshop when editing and be sure what the colours will be like in a Windows presentation?
(PS- changing the colour settings in Photoshop did not help)
Thank you for helping! - Jochen

I'm also working on a stable calibrated system which I believe I understand, and I see the same colour shift when zooming a Bridge CS3 slideshow from "fit" to 100%, latest version, Windows Vista SP1 etc. It looks like the slideshow program is arbitrarily assigning Adobe RGB as a colour space for the RAW image which it's displaying, but only at 100%. That's odd as my working spaces are all sRGB on this machine.
I've tried various combinations of Bridge settings including the factory defaults. It makes no difference what the ACR colour space (in the XMP recipe) for that image is: I get the same effect for sRGB and Adobe RGB XMP settings.
The second post here seems to be about PS colour management in general; that's not the issue here, this is quite specific to the 100% zoom in Bridge Slideshow.
Looking at various jpeg test charts I can't make the shift happen; I get it only with RAW files (CR2, various different Canon bodies, all the same problem).
More investigation suggests that my Bridge's colour management is slightly broken more generally. That is, if I have an sRGB JPEG file without an explicit embedded profile tag, Bridge should display it as sRGB (see explicit section 2 from the sRGB standard here:
http://www.w3.org/Graphics/Color/sRGB.html). This isn't happening with a test image: it's apparently not colour managed at all. If I assign sRGB explicitly to the image and save as JPEG or PNG it displays correctly however.
Perhaps that's a clue to the 100% problem... does anyone else have any idea what may be going on here?

  • CS2 Bridge vs CS3 Bridge = Colors don't match

I was wondering why a JPG of eyewear with clear lenses shot on a white background and which have no color cast whatsoever displays with a light pink cast in Bridge 2.1.1.9 and displays it's normal 'neutral tone' in Bridge 1.0.4.6 ?
The folder they're in has both CMYK and RGB (sRGB) versions of the same product shot and only the RGB ones display with a noticeable pink cast in CS3 Bridge. High quality thumbnails is turned on and when I open the image in PS10 it's fine. The lens' RGB value in the affected area is neutral and pretty close to 232/232/232. There are no color casts anywhere.
As a test I just created a 232/232/232 box on a white canvas and saved it as a JPG. I've discovered that if I save it as a progressive JPG the 232/232/232 box displays as light pink on a white background in Bridge 2.1.1.9. If I save it as a Baseline (Standard) JPG it does not have the false pink cast. The same test images all display correctly in Bridge 1.0.4.6.
Is this a known issue or something particular to my system?
    Russell

    Hi @Lommarti
Although HP does not support Photoshop, I was able to find something that might help; How to Convert RGB to CMYK in Photoshop.
If you can print from other programs without any issue, then you might consider contacting Adobe for help adjusting your color settings further.
You can also use the following document to ensure the printer is not at fault; Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP ENVY 5640, 5660, 7640 and Officejet 5740, 8040 e-All-in-One....
    i hope this helps.

  • Why can't I add/change NEF metadata in Bridge after CS3 re-install?

After a recent unplanned changeover to Windows 7, during which I had to re-install CS3, I now find that I can't add metadata keywords to NEF images taken and archived before the re-install, nor can I add keywords to image metadata that was originally written before the change. If one image is selected I get an error message saying an error occurred when it tried to write to the keyword list. If I select All images (including some new TIFFs that are edits of older NEFs), I get a message saying some of the metadata can't be changed, and asking do I want to proceed? [I can add keywords to the new TIFFs (post re-install) but not the older NEFs. I can also add keywords to new NEFs, just not the older ones.] How can I "unlock" the metadata?

    Probably one of 2 things.
The images have been relabeled "read only".  Open Windows Explorer and click on properties.
There may also be a permissions issue.  Close Bridge and right click on icon to choose "run as administrator".  See if that solves problem.

  • Bridge/Photoshop CS3 Web Gallery Question

Hi There, I have a question about the Photoshop cs3 Flash Gallery, particularly the flashobject.js file and index.html file.  Whenever I try and open the finished Flash Gallery HTML page, I get a message that says "Please upgrade your Flash player" and "Already have Flash player installed? Click Here."  Is there a way that I can remove that and just have it go to the Flash Gallery?  I notice that it says Flash Player 6 but that is an old version.  I am not very knowledgeable in javascript so any help would be appreciated.

    Ellen,
I replied to your identical thread in the Bridge forum this morning.

  • Automate Multiple RAW exposure from Bridge to CS3

    Good afternoon
I'm new to these forums but have been using Bridge for a little while now. However I could really do with some help that would shave hours off my workflow!
With some of my images I am creating pseudo HDR effects. To do this I am opening multiple instances of the same shot in Camera Raw in CS3 and increasing or decreasing the exposure accordingly, then saving each image. Ultimately what I am trying to achieve is to automate the following procedure:
From Bridge open the same file three times in CS3, each time with a different exposure setting; then save each image as a tiff from CS3. In CS3 I use an action to do the saving, but isn't there a way of automating the entire process from Bridge?
The second problem is that I have to save my file as 1.tif, 2.tif, 3.tif etc when saving the same RAW file, otherwise it will overwrite itself. Can I also save in CS3 a variation of the original file name like img_001-1.tif, img_001-2.tif, img_001-3.tif, making it automated so that I don't have to intervene in order to give it a unique file name?
Any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

First question - You can use Image Processing in tools/photoshop for automating the process.
2nd question - Don't know if you can do this directly in Bridge, but can be done quite easily with a script.  I know zip about scripts but have seen previous posts were user did the same thing.  Go to the scripting forum and do a search.  Should be an available script to do what you want.

  • Can someone help me open raw files from bridge in CS3?

MIne used to work and it quit.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and it won't work.  I'm using Windows 7.  Help!  Please!

    Edit:
Glad to hear you got it working.
I'll just leave what i had put here anyway.
    You want Program Files (x86)
That's where the 32 bit programs such as photoshop cs3 are on a windows 7 64 bit system.
Also, in bridge cs3 under Edit>Preferences>Thumbnails ensure Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for Jpeg and Tiff files is checked.
    (then restart bridge cs3)
