Bridge in CS4 with Vista

This problem has been driving me nuts, however I came across what I think is the answer.
I have CS4 and Windows Vista. If I have CS4 open and then open Bridge and right click on an thumbnail in Bridge and select 'open in ACR', or 'control+R', then the dreaded 'Camera Raw is not enabled' message appears.
However, if I do not open CS4 but go directly into Bridge, then click on a thumbnail, ACR opens automatically. If I press shift and click on a thumbnail then CS4 opens. It seems to me that it should be the other way round, 'shift+click' should open ACR and 'click' should open CS4. However this is what happens so I am learning to live with it.
Has anyone got the right answer?
If Adobe staff read this please send an update which will reverse this, therefore correcting it, or perhaps change your instructions round so that they match the reality. In any case let me know.

No I haven't. How do I do that?
I'm downloading some updates from the Adobe Updater, one of them was Camera RAW, so maybe that's it.

Bridged Time Capsule with Vista??

Hi,
After converting the inlaws over to Mac heaven I need some help when it comes to Networking.
OK heres the details
- They have a Netgear ISDN Modem/Wireless Router which is in the roof but they have done a good networking job throughout the house so that each room has an ethernet cable if they do not have a good enough wireless signal
- They bought a Time Capsule and with a little research I have figured out that it needed to be Bridged in order to use the TC as a external HDD and the Internet Connection
- They have a PC! which my Mother-in-Law refuses to let go as she just bought it (Vista). I installed AirPort Utility and it recognises the TC no probs. I managed to Map a Network Connection to it (not using username and password) but I cannot get the inbuilt Vista back up software to recognise the TC???? I did try and setup a username and password on the Time Machine but this didnt work either!
Any suggestions?

Bridge to CS4 64 bit Vista - Problem with bit depth

I'm using Camera Raw in Bridge and CS4 64 bit. When the Camera Raw window opens in Bridge, the image is shown in 8 bit mode even though shot in 16 bit. I could not find a setting in either the Bridge or CS4 Preferences that accounts for the down sampling. If I do the same raw conversion in Lightroom, this down sampling doesn't occur. Any ideas? You
 were the one that designated 8-bits in the Camera Raw workflow options. Click on what appears to be an underlined link right below your image in the Camera Raw dialog box. You will then be presented with the workflow options and you can set them to whatever you want.
 
 Those options are sticky, which means they will remain in place until you change them again.
 
 This is a screen shot of ACR in CS3, but the workflow options are located in the same place in CS4.

Hi I have been having a problem with Bridge in CS4 recently. So uninstalled CS4 and Lightroom 4.4 and reinstalled them on my Desktop PC. When I turned on Bridge through CS4, My thumb nail images disappeared and a thumb nail icon with CR2 appeared. Now some of my images have disappeared from Light room 4.4, but I can find them in CS4 and Bridge now shows some thumb nails as images and some as an icon with CR2. I have spent two weeks going through preferences etc. to find how to resolve my problem. Please can you Help? Meany thanks in advance

I don't use LR and rarely use the bridge so I can not answers about thumbnails in them, However thumbnails in windows file explorer and windows dialog for CS2 files will only show if you have installed codec into windows that will produce them. Windows does not do CR2 thumbnails on its own. I use FastPictureViewer Codec package for RAW File and PSD files thunbmail support.

Why not use Bridge CS4 with PsCS3?

I will post this on both the Bridge and Ps User-to-User forums as it applies to both.
I have PsCS3 and PsCS4 installed side by side in the default folders assigned by Adobe but have shifted my Bridge CS4 Cache (containing all the thumbnails and previews) from C:Documents and Settings\etc to a subfolder within My Documents, which I had previously moved to my F: drive - my main data drive.
I have found Bridge CS4 to be much more stable than Bridge CS3. Additionally, Bridge CS4 has certain features which make it more attractive and easier to use than Bridge CS3. I want to use Bridge CS4 in conjunction with PsCS3 until Adobe has sorted out the problems with PsCS4 - which at the moment is simply unuseable on my rather old and humble system.
On my system, I seem to be able to use Bridge CS4 with PsCS3 without any problems detected so far. I even have things set up such that any JPEG, TIFF or PSD file double clicked within Bridge CS4 or within Windows Explorer (Win XP Pro SP3) automatically opens the file in PsCS3 and not PsCS4 (provided, of course, that PsCS4 is not itself already running). Furthermore, even with PsCS3 running beside Bridge CS4, from within Bridge CS4 I can open any RAW, JPEG or TIFF file in Camera Raw 5.1 and use its new features (Adjustment Brush, Graduated Filter, extra vignetting capabilities, etcetera) which were not available in the last release of Camera Raw (4.6 I think) associated with PsCS3. The only problem comes when trying to open edits made in Camera Raw 5.1 in PsCS3 using the "Open Image" button in ACR - it does nothing/won't work, this is, it won't open the image with the ACR adjustments in PsCS3. That's not a big deal for me - as I am currently not doing any work within ACR (any version) and if I needed to I could simply save the ACR edits and then open the files in PsCS4, save the files as PSDs and then open them in PsCS3 to finalise them there.
Has anyone else had a similar experience, or does anyone else know of any reason(s) why I should not continue to use this workflow, at least in the short term?

Photoshop CS4 installs but won't run with Vista OS

All,
I have installed CS4 on Vista 64 and completed without any errors. I was able to bring up Bridge and go through it without any issues. However, when I try to run either CS4 or CS4 64 bit, it starts to load and says it has quit working, windows tries to find a fix and does not and shuts the program down. Any suggestions?

The location is different for Vista :
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4
Note to moderator: needs updating!
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

CS4 on Vista 64-Bit Sys with a BMD Card

Installed CS4 on Vista 64-Bit sys with a BMD HD card.
However, CS4 does not see the BMD presets, etc., so the only options I have are those Adobe includes with CS4. I uninstalled the BMD drives, etc. and reinstalled a number of times. The BMD presets are not installed in CS4's "settings" folder or anywhere else.
It may be that the current BMD driver is not CS4-capable, because I manually placed the BMD presets in the CS4 settings folder, and they weren't "seen."
Any thoughts from those folks running a BMD card?

Albert, there are no BMD drivers for CS4 aviable yet. You must wait for new drivers from BMD.

Are Adobe CS3 and CS4 Web Standard compatible with Vista Home Basic 32bit?
I only see Windows Vista Home Premium / Vista Business / Vista Enterprise / Vista Ultimate / XP listed as compatible.

Vista didn't exist when CS3 was released and as such, there is no official statement regard compatibility of CS3 with Vista Home Basic.
For CS4, we are very explicit. CS4 is not at all supported for Vista Home Basic (there are a number of networking and service support components that Microsoft leaves out of their Home Basic versions).

Small issue with CS3 / CS4 in Vista 64

Hello,
Recently made the move from XP 32 to Vista 64 and I'm having
issues with CS3 and CS4 when it comes to inserting images and/or
browsing for background images in a CSS file.
The first issue I have is where the cursor starts out. See
the image below:

Currently when the select image dialog appears, my cursor is
nowhere to be found. This is easy enough to get around with the
n key but annoying none the less.
My second issue is more upsetting. When I type in the name of
a folder (for example the Downloads folder from the previous
picture) and press the enter key, a strange character followed by a
colon and a backslash is added (:\). The character changes but the
colon and backslash is always the same.

This never happened on XP32 but for some reason Vista (and I
tried out server 2008 as well) 64 bit causes this issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Loading cs4 with elements 7 (windows vista)

HELP! I want to load my new CS4 but I have Elements 7 now. I want to make certain that when I load CS4 that Elements 7 will automatically populate CS4 with all of my 20K photos and not lose them. Anybody done this before out there? (Held for one hour at Tech "support" and then called another number where they couldn't help.) On-line "chat" is always busy! Not sure I should even download this product if this is indicative of "support" from Adobe. (Comments on that from current users?) Thank you in advance!

Huh? PS has no such thing as a catalog as it exists in Elements. This is all handled via Bridge. Meta data needs to be exported from PSE and then re-imported in Bridge to organize your files. The rest doesn't matter - neither program will do anything to harm your photos and both can open any standard image formats.

Adobe Bridge to CS4 Batch Problem

I hope this is the correct forum for this post as I don't know if its a Bridge or CS4 problem.
If I carry out various adjustments in ACR from within bridge, then select a number of the adjusted files and run the CS4 Batch from within Bridge. (I.e. Tools|PhotoShop|Batch...) I'm given the option of the action to run and each file is loaded into CS4 and the action runs file.
The problem is that not all the adjustments made are transfered into CS4 - the most obvious one being any crops.
If I open the same files in CS4 - as in File|Open, then all the adjustments are present.
Have I got something set incorrectly or is this a bug?

I've been having similar loss of adjustments...and haven't got a solution. It seems to me the following happens:
If I launch Photoshop CS4 32bit, open Bridge, and start a batch process, the adjustment from the first opened RAW file is used for ALL files being processed.
If I launch Bridge before and start a batch process, Photoshop CS4 64bit is automatically launched and each image is properly processed using each file's settings. Acutally, I'm not 100% sure I ever have this problem with the 64bit Photoshop even when I launch it first.
At first I thought I was losing my mind...some settings are too subtle to see differences when I quickly glance through a bulk group of photos. But lately I have processed some photos as black and white...and you know something is wrong if ALL of your batch processed photos suddenly show up black and white.

CS3 Web Premium Suite compatible with Vista 64 bit?

Greeting folks. I realize this is not a Photoshop specific question, but does anyone use CS3 Web Premium Suite on Vista 64? If so, do you have any problems with any of the programs?
I'm contemplating upgrading from Vista 32 to Vista 64.

I just got the Adobe Master Collection CS3 to run on a Dell Workstation (quad core processor, 2GB RAM) with Vista 64 Business. Photoshop is deathly slow, to the point of being unusable. It takes up to 2 minutes just to load the programme. Clicking menu items or drop-down buttons produces no response for about 5 secs. I created a blank layer and tried to draw a simply brush stroke across it - again, a 5 sec delay before the stroke appeared. This makes it impossible to do any useful work. Other parts of the package are better (e.g. Dreamweaver, Illustrator) but Bridge is slow and I have a subjective impression that some of my none Adobe programme are now running more slowly. I did look at CPU and memory utilization - never got about 60% and was mostly around 10%.
When I run the Photoshop CS3 trial on an AMD duo core computer with only 1GB RAM (which is running XP Pro), I get a much snappier response. Makes me suspect a Vista issue.
Since others appear to be having much better success, I would be very interested in any tips, etc. which I might try.

LR2 vs Bridge+PS CS4

I just upgraded from PS CS to CS4 and found Bridge was bundled in on the deal. At the same time, I also purchased LR2 since there was a major discount given if it was purchased at the same time as the upgrade.
Mostly, I have been using Bridge + PS CS4 and have only casually looked at LR2. However, I am wondering what LR2 brings to the party since Bridge seems pretty capable at managing images and is very well integrated with ACR and PS CS4.
So, can anyone tell me what the value added is for LR2 over the Bridge/ACR5/PS CS4 combination?

It depends on workflow, your image processing requirements.
I can process images faster in Bridge/PSCS4 than in LR--given LR's slowness,bugs and faulty features, and lack of critical tools that I need and that PS has, or acommodates as plugins. The connectivity between Bridge and PS is much faster than the round trip from LR. But, everyone's needs differ. If you are doing general basic parameter tweaks to your images and only taking the odd image over to PS and back, LR may well be satisfactory.
It is not for me at this time. Like many I like the overall concept of LR. So I give each new version a serious trial--well, all but the obviously bug ridden versions, like 2.2.
I have an established archive system ,DAM, and do not need Library, but have to have it if I use LR, since all I/O goes through it, and that is a major source of LR's slowness. Given that ACR and LR have the same color engine and for the most part the same image development tools, I don't miss any of LR's features--I use Qimage for printing and Proshow Pro for slideshows--both clearly superior to LR Print and Slideshow.
Perhaps someday LR will truly be competitive for my requirements--that certainly was not the case with V2, and at the rate LR is developing, I seriously doubt that it will be by V3, especially if Adobe continues making significant UI and feature improvements in PS/Bridge, as they certainly have with CS4 and Bridge 3.
In your case, since you have both, why not test the two workflows on 100 or so representative images--that's the best way to determine which will work best for you.

How do you close Adobe bridge for CS4?

I have installde CS4 on a new computer, can not get it to open. While on a call to Adobe support was told to install. It will not let me with out closing Adobe Bridge to CS4.

If you open in safe mode, you should be able to uninstall.

I recently upgraded from mac cs4 to cs5.5. Due to a bug? with cs5 ai illustrator 'Pixel Preview' won't show 1 bit tiff files as it did in cs4 (the workaround is time consuming/wasting). Yes, either set the file type association in Bridge prefs for 'ai' at CS4. But it seems somewhat difficult when having newer versions, sometimes whatever pref settings in Bridge or Finder/get info/ open with/you try it keeps opening in the latest version.
In that case either drag and drop the files on the CS4 icon in the dock or with right click mouse menu choose open with and select illustrator CS4.
Although you can only have one version of Bridge open at the time you can have the other suite applications from different version open at the same time.
