Bridge in InDesign

Bridge does not open in InDesign CS4 - can someone suggest why please.
Ken

Yes - I think that is probably what it was! - thanks.
I will now carry on with trying to get to grips with InDesign. After a
lifetime with Pagemaker it is not easy - but I am sure it will be worthwhile
in the end - in particular I am delighted that InDesign is fully colour
managed.

  • Mini Bridge in InDesign

    Mini Bridge in InDesign does not show folders within the Picture folder on my Mac platform. How can I resolve this?

    It shows it for me (below). But did you notice that the folders aren't mixed in with the pictures in the Picture folder. They appears in a list on the left as shown.
    If you're not seeing that, try restoring your InDesign preferences and/or your Bridge preferences. For InDesign use this method:
    Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences
    For Bridge, quit out of the application. Launch it, and hold down Cmd + Shift + Option immediately after launch until you're asked to restore preferences.

    Check under Edit > Menus... to be sure it is listed and visible.

  • Drag drop from bridge to InDesign.

    I am having problems with getting drag drop to work from bridge to InDesign. I have made an extension that reads information from ouer dam and shows it in bridge. I wont to bee able to drag a node from that data from bridge(It shows fine in bridge with thumbs) to InDesign. I have enabled:
                   if(infosetName == "item" || infosetName == "all")
                        infoset.cacheData.status = "good";
                            if(!currentNode.isContainer())
                                infoset.canBeDragSource  = true;
                                infoset.canBeDropTarget  = true;
    in
            dbiModel.refreshInfoset = function(infosetName)
    And made
            dbiModel.addToDrag = function(pointerToOsDragObject)
                return true;
            dbiModel.wouldAcceptDrop = function(type, sources, osDragRef)
                return false;
    And are able to drag the node but other applications dosent accept it as valid.

    It has just never worked that way and I've never seen a request for it either.
    In the Control Panel you have got a Bridge Icon
    At the bottom of the document window you have the Browse in Bridge
    The Default Shortcut for Bridge is CTRL+ALT+o (CMD+OPT+o)
    In Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts under
    Product area : Panel Menus
    Layout Window Status: Reveal in Bridge --- [none defined]
    or
    Layout Window Status: Reveal in Mini Bridge --- [none defined]
    to add your own shortcut to Reveal in Bridge command
    But I just don't see a way to go "Place from Bridge"
    In fact - in all the years I've been on the forums I have never seen the request.
    However you can make feature requests here
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
    And there's a feature request forum
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign/indesign_feature_requests
    And in the end - someone might be able to script an option to go to Bridge for File>Place

    Why do Images sometimes flip orientation when dragging from bridge into indesign? Using a mac.

    That's what I thought was happening with my coworker as well, but she is simply just dragging and placing the image into an empty area. The file she is working with is one that was converted from quark with an add on, would that have any relation to why this is happening?

  • Bridge, Lightroom, InDesign workflow question

    Hey everyone,
    I've been using Adobe InDesign CS5 and Apple's Aperture software together (on a Mac) to do design projects over the past year and a half or so. I'd never been that interested in Adobe's other applications until recently, when I got a Creative Cloud membership, and now am reveling in the bounty of creative possibilities. Recently i've been interested in integrating Bridge into my workflow and transitioning away from Aperture to Lightroom (as i imagine many other people are considering/in the process of doing right now). I've been taking some video tutorials on Lynda.com and recently came across Terry White's "Bridge CC vs. Lightroom" youtube screencast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd8XLYG8A0s#t=20). While I really appreciated Terry's perspectives and find them helpful, I think he polarized the "Design" (Bridge) and "Photography" (Lightroom) paradigms that he used to distinguish the programs: Bridge is a file browser for working numerous file types across creative cloud applications, whereas Lightroom is a tool for photographers to do powerful non-destructive edits.
    Part of what I've liked about using Aperture with InDesign is that (however buggy this feature is) I can directly access my Aperture library from within the OS X open dialog box, thus allowing me to use files that i've edited and keeping all my work in one library. However, from what i've learned so far, and what Terry's video didn't (directly) address is what are some good practices for using edited photographs within an application such as InDesign. It seemed in the video he simply exported image files from Lightroom into folders, and then I suppose you could use mini-bridge to browse that folder. But i'm wondering if there isn't a better or simpler way to do this, and I'm wondering if i could solicit opinions from folks as to how they work between Everything i've tried to do in my workflow is minimize steps and keep track of the proliferation of images i work with. As much as I see that Lightroom is a better maintained tool than Aperture, it sure is nice to be able to directly access those image files from within InDesign…
    Very new to all of this. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

  • Script to convert metadata to xml file - Bridge CS6/InDesign CS6

    I need a script that will convert metadata in Bridge to an xml file I can import into InDesign so that when I export long documents the alt text for photos is already included with the images.
    Two problems -
    1) I need the scripting for dummies version - from step 1 to end.  I have zero experience with using scripts, as in - did not know they existed until a few days ago.
    2) If the script needs adapted - see #1; there is very little hope that I will have any idea of how to do that without assistance.
    I will be grateful for any assistance!!  I do want to learn how to do this, if I can.

  • How do I enable mini bridge in InDesign CC

    Mini Bridge seems to be missing from my Creative Cloud versions of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
    How do I enable Mini Bridge?
    I am up to date on all versions of the apps and I am running on a Mac.
    I am able to use the full version of Bridge for browsing.

    Unlike Peter Spier, I have installed Bridge CC and it is operational. I followed the instructions in the link to "trash" preferences. (Really, he should have given the backup advice BEFORE telling you the steps to delete... for those who followed our cake recipe given last week, here is the antidote...)
    Alas, deleting preferences didn't seem to help. I've deleted preferences for both Bridge and ID. Mini-bridge does not appear in the Window menu nor does it display when I shift-click the Br button on the menu. Bridge itself works fine -- so things are not at a standstill -- but this is annoying. Somewhere in my switch from CS6 to CC mini-bridge went away.
    Anyone else with an idea what I should try?

  • Bridge to InDesign Contact Sheet - Define Caption Code for name?

    Hello,
    Another beginners question, but I promise after this I'm done:
    I'm using a script written for Bridge CS4 to create contact sheets in InDesign v 5.03.
    When the dialog window opens in Bridge to set the parameters for outputting the contact sheet, one of the option is to give the items on the contact sheet a caption - for this it offers some suggested codes.
    To add the filename as the caption, the code is <var filename>. This gives me the file name plus extension i.e. image1.jpg.
    Creation date is another, code is: <var cdate[YYMMDD]>
    I would like the caption to just be the filename without the .jpg extension, i.e. image1
    Does anyone know what the code would be to give the script the instruction to leave off the extension, please?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Oh, you're my hero, Bob!!
    I didn't know about Find/Replace - told you I was a novice.
    What you've taught me today will save me soooooooo much time!
    Cheers!

  • Bridge CS2 InDesign Contact Sheets

    I create Contact Sheets in InDesign through Bridge (CS2) for EPS files many times a day. To get the EPS files to import to the contact sheet I have to add the file type to the File Type Filter (under Files...) every time I create a contact sheet. Is there a way of changing the script so that the EPS files will automatically be included in the File Type Filter? I have no experience with scripting and am having a hard time finding information on this topic.
    Thanks for any help you can offer!
    Melissa

    Melissa,
    Open up AdobeScriptLibrary1.jsx in a text editor (Adobe's ESTK is a great one for editing scripts).
    Look at around line 368 or search for:
    TYPES.DEFAULT_CONTACTSHEET
    you should see a line like:
    TYPES.DEFAULT_CONTACTSHEET = "JPG,JPEG,TIF,TIFF,GIF,AI,PSD,PDF,";
    Just add eps, epsf to the list.
    TYPES.DEFAULT_CONTACTSHEET = "JPG,JPEG,TIF,TIFF,GIF,AI,PSD,PDF,EPS,EPSF";
    Then restart bridge.
    That will do it for you.

  • LR4/Bridge CS5/InDesign CS4

    I understand why LR 4 will not allow Drag & Drop from Lightroom to InDesign. Prior to purchasing LR, I was quite happy using the ability to drag and drop photos from Bridge, right into my InDesign document. Since I do not have that luxury any longer, is there a way to ensure that all edits done in Lightroom are automatically reflected in Bridge? So if I edit a shot in LR and want to use it in an InDesgn document, I would like to have Brisge open on a second monitor so that I can drag and drop the shot into InDesign. Workable?
    Bob

    Yes, there is.
    In Lr you have to "save metadata to file".
    This will write your Lr edits into a XMP-sidecar file (for Raw images) or into the header of the file (for JPGs, TIFFs, PSDs) - but not into the image pixels.
    Bridge is able to read the edits that are saved to file and diplays the imagesd accordingly.
    You "save metadata to file" by
    a) In the Library Module go >Metadata >Save metadata to file, or
    b) in the Develop Module go >Photo > Save metadata to file, or
    c) shortcut: press Ctrl / Cmd + letter "S" on your keyboard, or
    d) check the box <Automatically write changes into XMP> in Edit > Catalog Settings > Metadata tab.
    Be aware though that not everything that Lr saves in its catalog can/will be saved to file, as for instance virtual copies (they exist only in Lr), collections, stacking, and maybe a few other things.
    But your keywords, title, captions, abd your edits in the Develop Module will be written to file.
    Color labels will also transfer to Bridge, provided that the textual descriptions of the labels are exactly the same in both programs (down to commas, hyphens, etc).

  • Bridge to InDesign contact sheets (CS3) creating frames around the images

    Forgive me if this topic should not be here.
    We use the contact sheets to ID from Bridge script quite a lot at work (when it works -> CS2). Since upgrading to CS3 it works (hooray) however, it creates two boxes with a black stroke around each image. Removing them manually is a schlep (I was reading this forum in the hopes of finding a script to run that will remove them faster).
    Is there a way I could edit the script to stop it creating the boxes in the first place?
    Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hi Bob,
    we found your script (I think it was yours) but it only removes one of the boxes I think.
    Hi Robert,
    We are mostly working on Macs, but scripting directly in ID would be great.
    Thanks!

  • Help with InDesign spread previews in Bridge CS6

    Our company is updating to CS6 and needs to be able to view InDesign files as spreads as we did in CS3. We produce many catalogs a year and each spread is a separate file. We use Bridge (CS3) to view the entire catalog at once. Now, with CS6, we can only see one page of the document, even though the preference is set to 2 pages in InDesign. We need an update. Please help!

    I don't believe so. It's how Bridge displays InDesign files. In CS6, it's showing a single page and not the full spread that it used to. There is a preferance in Indesign that you can set the size and number of pages to preview. It's set to 2, which is the default.
    This is a critical feature that needs to be restored. The link for the feature Request is not working, nor is the reporting a bug link.
    After reading someone's comment, it appears that InDesign does not write the appropriate meta data for bridge to preview the spread, so perhaps it is an InDesign issue. Nevertheless, it has not been fixed since 2011!
    How can I get through to Adobe???
