Bridge link with two aironet 1242

                   Hi to all,
I want to connect with wireless devices two buildings, one in front of another.
Short distance (about 20 meters) and no obstacles.
I have a couple of aironet 1242 and i was wondering if it would be possible to setup this link with this equipment.
could  WGB be the solution?
thank you very much

WGB could work, if you do not need to extend multiple VLAN across the link, and you have less than, I want to say 200, devices.
What you might want to look into is Root/ non-Root bridging.

  • Configuration of a Point to MultiPoint link with Cisco Aironet 1310 bridges

    Hi All,
The previous problem of which I started another conversation here:
    http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Wireless%20-%20Mobility&topic=General&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1ddba023
somehow dissapeared. It could have been a problem of interferences.
I have another issue with other (multipoint) wireless WAN link, which I hope has a solution.
On the central node, we have an Cisco Aironet 1310 bridge configured as root-bridge. It has a panel of four vertical polarity 17 dBi panel 90? antennas, with more than enough gain (there is a 250 mWatts 802.11 b/g amplifier, before the 4-way splitter) and excellent line of sight to three remote bridges.
The three (03) remote bridges are also Aironet 1310 models, confidured as non-root-bridges.
The problem we have is that it seems that when the three remote links operate concurrently the amount of lost packets is huge. When I shutdown the radio interfaces of two bridges, the remaining bridge makes an excellent link with the central node.
It seems that some hours are more critical than others, also the links operate much worse when there is some (small) network traffic in them.
I have read the 1310 manuals, and I can't find a sample configuration for point to multi-point links.
Does someone knows what radio interface configuration should I need to use to establish better quality communication?
I mean, perhaps the 1 x root - 3 x no root configuration is not recommendable for the multipoint link configuration.
    Any hints will be welcome.
    Best Regards,
    Igor Sotelo.

    Hi All,
Thank you for the information. I configured the distance on the root bridges, but the links showed instability.
I'm using a bi-directional amplifier. It has two pieces. According to the manuals, one is installed indoors, the other outdoors. I'm not sure if the indoors piece has the transmition module or it's only the injector.
We could establish connection at 7 km (around 4 milles) distance from the central point, using 24 dBi antennas on the other side.
However, we have issues with a near located point that is only 1.2 Km (around 0.8 milles) away and has a 13 dBi integrated patch antenna. The signal strenght value we get there is in the -62 to -68 dBm range, and is noticiably (5-10 dBm) lower than the strenght we get at other points of the link. And I have trouble establishing a high quality link with that point, using OFDM modulation. I tend to think that if I remove the amplifier I'm not going to reach that point at all. The EIRP on the central iste is 34 dBm / 2.5 watts, without amplifier it would be 26 dBm / 0.4 watts.
On the opposite sites the EIRP is 33 dBm / 2 watts using CCK or 28 dBm / 0.63 watts using OFDM.
When one looks at the central site from that point, an Motorola Canopy with passive reflector (EIRP 48 dBm or around 64 watts) can be seen. It doesn't have the same direction, but the opposite site must be large distance and could interfere with my wireless network. Attached is an amplified photo of the view. It's safe to assume that the Canopy operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency range.
Once I connect the point at 1.2 Km, the multipoint link loses its quality, and soon the lost packets get too frequent.
The CCK seems to be much more interfered than OFDM, I guess because of that canopies.
Another thing I'm wondering about is if the Aironet 1310 can continuosly switch CCK-OFDM over the same point - multipoint link, without losing packets.
What other parameters should I tweak? Is there a way to avoid interferences fromt the canopy?
I would like to apply 100 mWatts local power using the radio with OFDM, but it seems that's not possible.
    Best Regards,
    Igor Sotelo.

  • I am trying to establish a 1310 bridge link with LEAP authentication

First of all I have the radios in a lab with the power set to 5mw.
The root state is Association processing
The root event log says RADIUS 172.20.2.105:1645,1646 is not responding. and RADIUS server 172.20.2.105:1645,1646 has returned.
The non root state is EAP-Associated but the radio int staus is Software Status Disabled Hardware Status Down
I have included the root and non root configs in an atachment

Thank you for taking the time to review the configs. I will be able to make the change Friday.

  • Unstable Wireless Bridge Connection via 802.11a(Radio 1) of Aironet 1242

    Hi,
I'm going to setup up an AP 1242 in a remote area to support b/g client via a 802.11a bridge link (all using AP 1242).
Before the deployment, I tested the configuration in a lab environment. However, I found the bridge link will come up a while and suddenly gone. Resetting the root AP or the non-root AP cannot bring the connection up again. Sometimes, when I shutdown the b/g radio (radio 0) of the remote AP, the bridge link will be established again. Following is the log from the root AP.
    Thanks!

Thanks dmantill for reminding me to revisit the antenna and related stuff.
As the setup is in a lab environment, the APs are put on a work bench next to each other, therefore, the radio output power was lowered.
After adjusting the output powers, it works as expected.
    Thanks Surendra and dmantill.

  • Create a point to point link with a wlc 4402

    Hi to all,
i have a wlc 4402 and i need to configure a point to point link with two air-lap1310g-e-k9, i have found on cisco.com this link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_configuration_example09186a00808e9c1b.shtml#zero
but on the wlc configuration page i cannot found some configuration step.
Someone have configured this type of behaviour or can give me some hints?!
How can i configure on the wlc the parameter about the bridges configuration?! Or i must configure the bridges overriding the global configuration?!
    Thanks and best regards,
    Carlo Sagratella.

The correct thing to do would be to downgrade the 1310's to autonomous (or 1242's) and set up a root bridge and non-root bridge.
Alternately however, if you REALLY wanted one of the points to be LWAPP, in theory you could always make one of the Access Points Autonomous and join it as a workgroup bridge to the LWAPP AP. However, there really is no reason to do that since it would be cleaner to convert both to autonomous.

  • Ace module in bridged mode with client nat

Could someone confirm whatever a NAT is supported for ACE-20 module, please?
Let me to explain technical details.
I do need to convert working CSM(SLB) config to ACE configuration and I am not quite sure
if the configuration below is correct. ACE module should be configured in bridge mode with two
vlans - vlan 36 (client) and vlan 436 (server) - bridged with interface bvi 36.
NAT on ACE configurad as "nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436" into corresponding
    "policy-map type loadbalance"
Could you check two parts of configs and advise me if the ACE config is
properly converted from CSM and will be working in the same way (especialy for NAT).
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello F.Makarenko-
You will want to use PAT while you do nat, so change the natpool configuration to this:
       nat-pool 1025 10.36.3.100 10.36.3.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 pat
You also need to apply the nat like this:
    policy-map multi-match IFVLAN36-POLICY
    class WEBMAIL-80
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-80
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
        nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436
      class WEBMAIL-443
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-443
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
        nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436
If you are going to build out a lot of classes, you can instead do source nat like this:
    policy-map multi-match IFVLAN36-POLICY
    class WEBMAIL-80
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-80
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
    class WEBMAIL-443
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-443
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
    class class-default
        nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436

  • Link Budget for Aironet 1550EU point-to-multipoint bridge

We have six remote building near our main office. Is it possible to use a single Aironet 1550EU as the root bridge for point-to-multipoint links to six Aironet 1530E on each building? The datasheet for Aironet 1550EU states that it support three 5Ghz antenna and three 2.4 Ghz antenna.
The remote buildings are within 1 km radius of the main building with LOS. We are using the following link budget for our calculation. Our target bandwidth is 24 Mbps. Please correct me if my number is incorrect. I am quite new to wireless network.
    Regulatory Domain: America
    Link Margin: 5 dBm
    Cable link loss: 2 dBm
Antenna Gain for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz links: 13 dBi Patch Antenna
Max Tx Power of 1550EU for 802.11g and 802.11a with 13 dBi antenna : 20 dBm (smallest Max Tx power on channels)
    Rx Sensitivity of 1550EU and 1530E for 802.11a and 802.11g @ 24 Mbps: -81dBm
    Max Range for 5 Ghz   @ 24 Mbps = 4.78 km
    Max Range for 2.4 Ghz @ 24 Mbps = 9.95 km
I am using the formula on this page. The result is very similar to Bridge Range Calculator from Cisco. Is my calculation correct?
    Thanks

I was going to have the same concern as you about using the 1232 for both bridging and client serving. Tying a bridge and an AP back to back is a valid configuration from what I have heard. I haven't had the opportunity to try it, though. I know that Cisco says tying 2 bridges back to back to serve as an intermediate bridge hop is a valid configuration, so I don't see why this would be any different.

I have a problem with two PDF's when trying to open them through a link on a web page. The two PDF's open fine with Adobe on my own PC and on the server I have copied it to but when they are opened through a link on a web page (pointing to the server where the PDFs open fine) I get an error 'There was an error processing a page. Invalid function resource' The other one just doesn't open at all. Can anyone help with this please?

    Hello,
Are the pdf linked correctly in the website? Is this a public website? If yes, please post the link here.

  • Encrypting Aironet 1410 bridge link using multiple VLANs

I've looked at the documentation available for Aironet 1400 series, and still would like to see a single document showing an example of
the best encryption/authentication available for bridge links using multiple VLANs.
As I understand it, 1400 series can support WPA-PSK using AES, which would work for me.  I just can't picture how to integrate chapters 9 and 10 for the 'WEP and WEP Features' + 'Configuring Authentication Types' instructions.
I'm looking either for an example config, or a step-by-step that did all steps consecutively.
    Thanks

What doc are you refering to?  If you want to encrypt the link from root bridge to non-root bridge, then WPA/TKIP-PSK is what you should use.  Here is a link to how to setup your link ssid to WPA: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/bridge/1400/12.2_15_JA/configuration/guide/p15auth.html#wp1044935
Don't worry about the example they show on the WEP, just use the configuration from the above link for your encryption.
    Configuring a VLAN
Configuring your bridge to support VLANs is a five-step process:
    1. Create subinterfaces on the radio and Ethernet interfaces.
    2. Enable 802.1q encapsulation on the subinterfaces and assign one subinterface as the native VLAN.
    3. Assign a bridge group to each VLAN.
    4. (Optional) Enable WEP on the native VLAN. <-- Use WPA-PSK
    5. Assign the bridge's SSID to the native VLAN.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/bridge/1400/12.2_15_JA/configuration/guide/p15vlan.html
Here is an example of vlan 1 (native) will be your management and your wireless link.  vlan 10 & 20 will pass through the link.
    BR# configure terminal
    BR(config)# interface dot11radio0.1
    BR(config-subif)# encapsulation dot1q 1 native
    BR(config-subif)# bridge group 1
    BR(config-subif)# exit
    BR(config)# interface fastEthernet0.1
    BR(config-subif)# encapsulation dot1q 1 native
    BR(config-subif)# bridge group 1
    BR(config)# interface fastEthernet0.10
    BR(config-subif)# encapsulation dot1q 10
    BR(config-subif)# bridge group 10
    BR(config)# interface fastEthernet0.20
    BR(config-subif)# encapsulation dot1q 20
    BR(config-subif)# bridge group 20
    BR(config-subif)# exit
    BR(config)# interface dot11radio0
    BR(config-if)# ssid batman
    BR(config-ssid)# vlan 1
    BR(config-ssid)# infrastructure-ssid
    BR(config-ssid)# end

  • URGENT !!! Two physical network interface with two completely different subnets - No bridges - cannot connect both

    This is my urgent problem:
I have a physical machine with two physical network interfaces. I have a VMWARE player installed and a virtual machine that must use both cards on two different subnets, one directly public on the router and one intranet inside the company.
How can I just tell one net card to go on that sub and the other on the public sub ?  Going crazy. Please help.
    Thanks,
              P.

Using VMware Player Virtual Network Editor, create a additional bridged VMnet and bind each bridged VMnet to a different physical network adapter... on virtual machine, create a virtual network adapter to each subnet, and bind each virtual network adapter to a different bridged VMnet.

  • Bridge 3 Image weirdnes with two monitorss

I have CS3 installed on a MAC G5 with two monitors.. When I open Bridge and choose a file to open, no images appear. If I move the window across to my second monitor, images appear. If I try to open a folder by dropping it on Bridge, same thing, no images appear, move it to the second monitor, images appear. If Itry to scroll down to other images, nothing happens, I drag the window across to the other monitor, the images appear scrolled.
    I'm running the latest upgrade.
    Any ideas?

PS: I have Bridge 2 installed as well, it works fine.

    >PS: I have Bridge 2 installed as well, it works fine.
Bridge 2.1.1.9 is the current, latest version of Bridge in CS3.
The version of Bridge that comes with Photoshop CS3 is Bridge 1.x.
Have you trashed the Bridge preferences? Hold down the Option key as you relaunch Bridge, then check all the boxes in the dialog box that appears.
Also, use te Tools menu in Bridge to Purge the cache for each folder, one by one. DO NOT use the global Purge Cache command in Bridge. It's broken, and the caches do not rebuild properly after using it.
