  • Copying Metadata and Keyword Info when installing Bridge on new computer

Hi, I've just purchased a new computer and have installed Bridge CC on it, but I couldn't figure out what files from my old computer I need to copy/move over so that I can access the metadata and keywords that I had customized in Bridge on my older computer.  Both are Bridge CC so there should be versioning issues.
Can someone give me a step by step on what files to copy and replace?
    Thanks,
    Steve Goldberg
I'm using a Mac Pro, if that helps.

Sigh, it's bad enough that Adobe tech support gave you conflicting information, but for them to shun responsibility by directing you to a user forum is completely unacceptable.
Having said that, I have the following suggestions:
From what I've found on MSDN, that error is generated because either the Adobe software installed on your computer is performing an illegal or conflicting operation; or some Windows system files have been deleted or moved.
So, the things to try are:
Simplify matters by uninstalling all the Adobe software -- PSE8, Premier elements, PSE9, the whole works.  Restart your computer and then install only PSE9.
If you still get the error, use System File Check to repair the system files:
Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click
Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command
Prompt, and then click Run as
administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for
a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    sfc /scannowThe sfc
/scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect
    versions with correct Microsoft versions.
Be patient, it can take a while.  After running sfc, even if it reports it didn't find any files to repair, it really did, so restart your computer.

  • Expanded Metadata and Keywording Support

I have been trying to work with Metadata and Keywording for photographs lately, and I have been a bit frustrated with how vague the subject is. I feel that the ability to find photos using a standardized controlled language is a very important topic as digital photo collections grow larger and larger.
I had an idea of one place where Adobe and the Lightroom and Photoshop teams could help and I don't think that there would be too much development work involved.
In the past Adobe worked with IPTC to come up with Metadata templates which are now standard in Photoshop as the IPTC Core. IPTC also has put together an extensive albeit difficult to use (in its current format) set of Codes for the Core fields. My idea is this; incorporate the IPTC Codes into the Core templates in both Photoshop and Lightroom as a dropdown field instead of a free format field. This way photographers could begin to use a globally accepted controlled vocabulary as part of their metadata strategy.
I would also love to see Adobe use its position as an industry leader on standardization to work with leading archivists to write White Papers on the subject of keywording and controlled vocabulary and provide accepted strategies and conventions for setting up a metadata system. It would also be great if these same experts could work on an expanded number of Keyword Sets to help photographers kickstart their keywording efforts.

The utility "psedbtool" will write metadata (keywords, captions, notes, dates, star ratings) to the metadata of most file formats, and for formats that it doesn't understand, it will write .xmp sidecars:

  • Need help understanding appending metadata and keywords

It seems too good to be true--appending the copyright and keywords to multiple images at a time in Bridge. We started doing it on a server volume of images and it seems to work ... as long as you are logged on to the computer that appended the data as the user that appended the data. Log on to the server from another computer as another user and it's all gone. I thought the metadata was stored in the image when you append it. Why are the keywords and metadata user specific? Are we doing something wrong? It seems a huge waste of time, if the metadata isn't general to anyone searching the photo volume.
Bridge CS3 on Mac OS 10.4x, working on a Windows server volume.

There is a command to Build and Export the cache, I just don't remember offhand where it is in CS3. I'm working on CS4 right now and don't have time to quit and launch CS3. Hope you can find it.

  • No audio with AVCHD.mts in Element 7

I cannot get audio when importing AVCHD.MTS files into Elements 7. I am running on Windows 7.  From Forum it seems the best fix for this is upgrade to Elements 9.  Can someone gurantee this is the way to go?

PRE9 can natively work with AVCHD files, but there are still posts to this forum from users not getting their audio working. Your best bet is to download the trial version and see if it works with your files.

  • How to Replace All the Bridge CS6 Stock Keywords With Bridge CS5 Keywords

I have CS6 working in a different computer than the one that houses CS5. Bridge CS6 can read CS5 keywords when it opens an "old" photo but it has none of its own (besides the stock ones that came with the program). How can I replace all the stock CS6 keywords with the keywords from CS5?

Have you tried the Import/Export options from the tiny menu at the top-right of the Keywords panel?

  • Synchronisation IPTC Metadatas and keywords

I have one catalogue with 13.ooo DNG pictures of my archive. In this catalogue I put 13.ooo JPG pictures with the same file name. Difference of cause .dng and .jpg As all JPG pictures contain all IPTC informations and keywords too, I want to import these informations to the DNG files. Up to now I click one jpg picture at the time, synchronize IPTC Datas with the corresponding dng. Then copy keywords and paste them into dng. A tool for synchronisation would be really great to optimize older archives. At least to put keywords into the synchronisation dialogue should not be difficult and would be a timesaver.

    Sigurd den Haan:
Welcome to the iView Forum. Where are you importing from? Another application? Are you adding keywords in that other application? If not, then where?
No knowing the answers to those I will suggest that you do not use the auto-rotate in the camera. It has caused different problems in iPhoto, specifically the use of those images in other applications that do not read those auto-rotate tags.

  • How can I integrate metadata and keywords in Lightroom with those in Photoshop, Bridge, and Photoshop Elements? In other words, is there a way to retrieve common metadata templates from all modules? Thanks!

Keyword and Metadata Integration throughout Adobe Modules

    Thanks! That's helpful.
What I mean by "common metadata", is a unified, updated, most current metadata, which I could update in each program. That is without overwriting the metadata, but appending new keywords to the metadata I created in the previous program.
I use Bridge, then Lightroom and finally Photoshop. That's the regular workflow: Bridge for preliminary sorting and and adding some keywords; Lightroom for organizing and picking the best images; finally, Photoshop for processing. I got Photoshop Elements on trial. Doesn't work for my purposes.
I need to share and update the metadata / keywords when I go from one program into another. Can't retrieve metadata I set up in Bridge into Lightroom. Same happens with Photoshop, where I can't retrieve keywords I add in Lightroom. It's tedious to write up the keywords again.
    Thanks for your efforts!

  • How do I restore permissions to amend Metadata and Keywords on Bridge?

I have just bought a new PC and reinstalled Bridge and  CS6. On amending  or adding Keywords or metadata to my existing images I receive an error message: 'There was an error writing Metadata to <Filename>.' It has appeared on .jpg , .tif and .cr2 alike.
What is the procedure for rectifying this?

    Linc:
Very helpful suggestion and response, Thanks for pointing out that it is a permission issue. I am working through the issue and resolving my problem.

  • Bridge Searches and Keyword suggestions

In Bridge CS3, changing the search target, eg from filename to keyword, dumps any search items already entered and replaces it with 'Enter Text'. This is seriously irritating if you have already entered the search string and have the wrong field selected.
Please leave the search text alone when changing field!
And please allow keyboard shortcuts for selecting search field criteria - eg for filename or keyword searches.
And please explain which search goes with which history state - a tooltip hint would be enough. A list full of 'search results' doesn't help much.
And please can list of keywords etc be sensitive to letter keys to jump and cycle through keywords starting with that letter. Working with very long keyword lists can be very tedious - especially when new keywords are always created at the top of the list even when the original insertion point was at the target position.

My bridge doesn't let me work hierarchly. There is not the green arrow at the bottom to do so, nor a box to run "search"
Does anybody know how to solve this?
    Thank you

  • DPP metadata and keywords

    Hello,
I'm sorry if this question has been asked a lot already, but the search function doesn't work very well.
I'm wondering if DPP allows us to edit the keywords on .CR2 files? If it doesn't, how does everyone do a search for files?
    Thanks,
    J

    Hi J_Almonte!
    Thanks for posting.
DPP can only view the metadata, such as keywords and descriptions.  This metadata cannot be edited or specifically searched for in DPP.  This will need to be done with other image editing software, such as ImageBrowser EX.

  • Metadata and edit with external app

    Hi,
Learning Aperture and have just done the trial. Considering purchasing but there is one thing that I find frustrating:
I use an external raw converter for my raw files. In Aperture I have the raw and the corresponding tiff from the raw converter for cataloging. I add then metadata to the files in Aperture for organizing. When I choose edit in external editor - TIFF - the metadata is not transferred and reverts back to what it was before being imported into Aperture. This does not happen if I use PSD as the preferred file format in the preference dialog. So I started using PSD as the file format for editing, but if I want to export masters with metadata, Aperture can't do it with the PSD files and gives an error message. What gives?
    Rasool

Sorry I should have been clear - I am referring to IPTC metadata.

  • Problem working with avchd/.mts videos

I have to edit a video from several .mts clips. I don't know what camera was used for the shots. My problem is whenever I try to play them in either windows media player or gom player or bs player or splash (designed for HD videos), or edit them in After Effects, I get this strange screen tearing. I have tried to convert it into .mp4 (h264), but the problem persists. I uploaded it to youtube to test it out ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTfCP-o9RiY ), but the screen tearing occurs here also as you can see.
Does this mean that the footage is corrupt from the beginning and there is no way to fix it? The strange thing is that the guy who gave me these said he had these tearings also, but when another guy edited another video from these clips, it played without tearing, so it's not the camera's fault, it can be fixed. But if so, then how?

It is an unmodified clip without any conversion, it's what I got from my friend. It's avchd in an .mts container I believe. So the tearing is the fault of the recording and it is unrepairable? I will try to contact that guy, the problem is that I don't know him personally. Maybe he used clips which aren't tearing, and only some of the clips are corrupt like the one I uploaded, can that be the case?
Also, if needed, here is an unmodified, native copy of one of the problematic clips: 00134.MTS - Google Drive

  • Where do the XMP metadata templates and keywords files go WIN XP?

I've just changed computers and upgraded to CS6. I am trying to import my Bridge metadata templates and keywords. I have the files from the old computer but I don't know where to put them on the new computer. The same folder structure where I found them (documents and settings/username/AppData/Adobe/BridgeCS5) does not exist on my new computer after installation of CS6. I tried pasting them in the program files folder for CS6, but this didn't work. I am using Windows XP. Thanks in advance.

I tried pasting them in the program files folder for CS6, but this didn't work.
Not familiair with Windows but on a Mac the path you show is still the same. Did you already used Bridge once?
Quickest way I can think of is putting the files on your desktop and from Bridge metadata and keyword panel use the little menu icon top right of the panel and choose import settings. Find and select both settings and you should be OK.

  • Have to deinstall/reinstall: how do I save and restore Bridge thumbnails and metadata?

My hard drive is failing. I am having it replaced. I will then be installing Windows 7 and applications including CS5.5. In addition to the thumbnails, I have a lot of metadata, keywords, collections, and stacks etc. in Bridge and I hope I do not have to lose it all and start from scratch. I had been using a disk image backup system which would have allowed me to restore the entire contents of the drive bit for bit, but the backups started to fail when the hard drive began to fail. So I have to back up or copy specific folders. Does anyone know how I should go about this?

Metadata and keywords are stored in the files themselves.
    Don't know about Stacks.
Collections, keyword lists and workspaces are stored in c:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge version\
