Bridge Mode Status Light Off

I have a brand new Aiport Extreme that I've setup for the office. It was happy as a clam while taking it's upstream connection straight from a staticly configured gateway. However, when it was moved behind a router and switched to bridge mode, it seems to have a lot of trouble.
The Airport will function, but the status light is completely off. It will blink amber when starting up (as expected), but then shutoff when running.
It will occasionally fail to connect new clients, or will show "no internet connection" for reconnecting clients. This usually takes a full reboot to get everything working for most people again.
Finally, it will occasionally drop the usb connected backup drive, but this could be mounting/unmounting issues with the drive itself.
Is there some configuration in the upstream switch that we're missing, or does it just not like Bridge Mode?

Probably a coincidence, but the status light should always be on and green if the AirPort is configured correctly.
The light will blink amber if the Extreme has an available firmware upgrade or a setting is not adjusted properly.
The status light should never be off....unless you have the device unplugged.
Suggest that you exchange the defective AirPort Extreme for another device.

  • AppleTV Status Light Off

On my AppleTV 2nd Generation, the status light is always off.  This just happened.  It seems to function OK, but I would like the light to work for status information.  I have unplugged and replugged it.  I have also reset it.  The light is still out. What can I do?

Could try unplugging it, leave it for 10 seconds and plug it back in.
    unresponsive to restore factory setting
Not sure of what you mean by this, are you able to navigate to the screen to try to do a factory restore, or does it not do anything at all. What is displayed on the tv. Could it be the fuse (Do you have fuses in the plugs in the US).
Only other thought is that the remote has got swapped with another or the pairing could have been corrupted. Perhaps a quick look at the manual about pairing and unpairing remotes might be worth a go.

did the led fail in my ipod or does the firmware switch off the status lights when the unit has been playing for a while? mine is playing just fine right now but there's no little green light glowing by the earphone port. is this normal?

  • Status lights off?

On XRAID, The left bank has all four status lights as green. power, fans, tmep, link.
the right bank only has a green link light. the lights for power, fans, temp are not on at all. everything is working fine, and RAID ADMIN shows everything functioning.
    any ideas?

I had this exact same issue. I powered down the XRAID and unplugged it, and powered it back on and the other bank of lights came on.

  • T61P Vista AC power status light off

Despite buying a new brick.  And holding power button down for 10 seconds. Ideas? Was getting BSOD, maybe overheat.

Oh, and the computer is totally dead as well. Power switch problem? Burnt out everything? What part of the system apparently stops power from the brick from getting to the ac power status light?

  • N96 - Unable to switch off the Status Light

I am trying to disable the illumination light for the rim around the scroll key. I downloaded the N96 user guide from your site which says that the phone has the option under Tools > Settings > General > Personalisation > Standby Mode > Status Light. When I go to Standby Mode on the phone, I only have the Shortcuts and Standby Theme as options. The Status Light and Operato Logo options are not there. Is there any other way I can disable the illumination on the scroll key?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You need to turn off the 'breathing' feature.

  • Time Capsule Status light is off

Why is the Time Capsule Status light off even though it is plugged in? The disc is spinning but it is not found in Airport Utility.

You have a Gen4 (look on the base A1409) that has committed ritual suicide..
Leave it unpowered for 12 hours.. then plug in again.. does the LED flash at all at start up.. LEDs on the ethernet ports.. no flash then no recovery.
It is now dead. At least the main router part is. The disk spinning shows it is not a failed power supply.. unfortunately I cannot even offer you a repair method. I did get one that failed that way.. pulled it apart and checked all the power supplies inside.. nothing was bad.. put it back to together and it started working again.. I do not know why but it has been reliable and working ever since. I do not therefore know what was actually the fault.
All I can suggest is the same treatment.. you have to pull it down and actually lift the board out.. ensure all the heat sink sticky tabs are connected and put it back together.. who knows.
You can at least recover what is on the hard disk if you need to, by putting the hard disk in a USB holder and plugging it into your computer.
If it is less than 3years old and you have applecare on a computer, you bought within 2years of the purchasing the TC.. apple may replace it.. check the rules as they are complex and convoluted.

  • HT200154 how do you turn off the apple TV box?  There doesn't seem to be an off button.  The status light stays on.

how do you turn off the apple TV box?  There doesn't seem to be an off button.  The status light stays on.

Usually, when you put it to sleep mode, the status light will turn off.  To put it into sleep mode, go to Settings.
If you want it completely off, then I guess the only way to do it is to pull the electric plug.

  • DCHP and NAT, or off (Bridge-Mode)?

If I want to connect my MacBook and iPod touch to the internet using the AirPort Express, do I need to set router mode to DCHP and NAT, or off (Bridge-Mode)? I can't seem to get them both happily connected at once.  My iPod especially doesn't like being connected now that I played with the settings to get rid of the long-standing flashing amber status.

After I turn it on each time, I need to have my laptop on and open up Safari, before the iPod touch will connect.
Normally, you want to power-up the modem first. Let it initialize for about 10 minutes. Then plug-in your AirPort Express. Give it a couple of minutes to initialize as well. Then power-up any of the other wireless clients.
I need to have my laptop on and open up Safari, before the iPod touch will connect.  Otherwise it comes up with a pop-window saying "Authentication required" asking for a username and password, or sometimes it'll say "your password will be sent in the clear" (something like that).
Is your ISP providing you with DSL or ADSL service? These typically require that you first enter your user credentials (username & password) prior to gaining Internet access. If this is the case you will want to configure the AirPort Express to do this for you so you don't have to enter them via the PC.

  • Off Bridge Mode Question

Trying to determine how my Airport Extreme went into off-bridge mode....noticed my A.E. was blinking the amber light...after determining it was not an update alert, I unplugged the box from the socket, and detached all wires from the back of it...replugged, greenlight eventually came back on, but could not get onto the internet....called the 1-800 Apple number....tech determined I was indeed in off-mode, we fixed it, I'm back onto to the internet...forgot to ask her if unplugging the unit was what made it go into off-bridge...don't want to call back....but will if commnity can't answer the question....that is he question...did unplugging the unit, reset it into off bridge mode, or did I manipulate it within the dialogue box, and inadvertantly did something to put into off-bridge? Thanks for any and all hlep

Recycling power to the base station should NOT make any configuration changes. However, performing any of the potential resets can. The default mode of all of the Apple routers is NOT to be in bridge mode.

  • Xilinx Platform Cable USB II Status Light Always Off

I have been using the Xilinx Platform Cable USB II with ISE WebPACK 10.1 on Windows XP for a couple of years now.
Last week I bought a second Xilinx Platform cable, but I have not been able to get it to work. I have followed the instructions in the installation guide (ug344), and the Windows Found New Hardware Wizard runs twice when the cable is plugged in to a USB port, as expected. The wizard indicates that the installation of the firmware loader and the cable are successful. However, the status light on the cable never turns on. Also, the Cable Auto Connect operation in iMPACT fails:

I have tried using the cable with the latest version of ISE WepPACK on a computer running Windows 7, and I have followed instructions to uninstall and reinstall the cable drivers using a DOS command prompt. The cable behaves as described above.
Is there anything else I can try, or is the state of the status light an indication that there is hardware problem?
    Thanks.

Correct. Even though iMPACT reports it is attempting to install firmware, the light is never on. I have not seen it on in any color since I bought the cable.
I have tried the latest version. I have a newer machine running Windows 7 with ISE WebPACK 14.7. Again, the drivers seem to install witouth a problem, but the light remains off. Here is the log when I attempt to connect to the cable:

  • How to make sure Bridge Mode is OFF on my new TC

When I go into Airport Utility for my New TC, Network, Router Mode the choice is OFF(Bridge Mode). Does this mean the Bridge Mode is off?

    Alex_Tiny wrote:
I have read through your posted thread and you clearly state that TC, AC version cannot be set up using your method. I have the AC version so it won't work for me.
Eggman worked out in the thread how to do it.. So follow his section.. which is the same but using v6 utility.
So my question is can I just shut down the Bridge Mode, and set all the details so I can udate the TC with the new DNS numbers.
You can put the TC in router mode.. dhcp + nat and try it..
I do not know if it will work but the problem is, you will then have other issues.. so even if the dns is correct other things won't be.
Double NAT is the issue.. so it depends on if you can move the main router to the TC instead of the current router.
Please do try the other method.
Also, it is way too complicated for my inexperienced pea brain. I am retired and pretty much isolated here with very little outside help available.
You have lots of time.. try every method.. just reset if you mess up and start over. You cannot hurt anything.. indeed you can export your current setup in airport utility so you can restore it easily.
Take your time and make up a proper log and try different settings..
I found it hard to change DNS.. what the company refers to as many people with TC and extreme running this setup unfortunately you really have to work from where you are. If your TC shows DHCP + NAT then bridge is off.. and you have full router and you can play to your hearts content with dns settings.
Tell us what the make and model of the modem you have now.
Give us the current dhcp setup of the modem.. ie the range of IP's and DNS settings.

  • 2 TB Time Capsule Not Letting Windows 7 Prof Backup With Connection Sharing Off(Bridge Mode)

    Hello Everyone,
I've been struggling with this and I am completely puzzled, I have a 2 TB Time Capsule that has the connection sharing: Off(Bridge Mode) and I am unable to backup my Windows 7 Professional Desktop to the Time Capsule.  So far I am able to map and access the Data file inside the Time Capsule
in My Computer on the PC after installing Airport Utility version 5.5.3.  However, I see 2 errors when trying to perform a backup:
Error 1)  When I try to do a regular back up using the Backup and Restore Utility, I get an error stating:
Error Code: 0x81000031  The last backup did not complete successfully
Error 2) When I try to create a system image :
A backup cannot be done to a remote shared folder which is not hosted on a volume formatted with NTFS.
    Error Code:  0x807800B0
What's weird about all this is other then having the backup inside my Windows 7 Proffesional home PC configured the exact same way, and back up
on my Linux and XP and Windows 7 Proffesional boxes with no issues, the only change in menu that is different on that Windows machine is that under the Internet Tab under the Airport Utility, Connection Sharing is set to:
    Share a public IP address
I've read some post online and microsoft is saying that the error is generated because the Time Capsule is not in NTFS format.  However, my time
capsule at home is a FAT32 just like the 2TB one here that is giving me all this grief.  Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Nevins Duret

Some of the article is wrong.. so be careful.. HFSexplorer AFAIK cannot write.. only read HFS+.
It is also irrelevant to the TC.. what the Mac can read and what the TC can read are two different things.. also storage on network drive is handled by SMB.. file format is actually irrelevant. For disks directly plugged into a computer.. buy two.. one for the Mac and one for the PC.. use each in native format. Share files the right way.. via network.

I am attempting to set up a guest network on the Airport Extreme Base Station. The Base Station is connected to a DSL Modem. The network is also extended using an Airport Express. When I have attempted to set up the Base Station using DHCP NAT in the netword feature I get a message that because the service has a private IP address the only way that I can connect is in Off Bridge Mode. In this mode I do not seem to be able to connect to the internet using the guest network. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Ok, your Speedport is actually a combination DSL modem and wireless router. In this case you would typically configure a downstream router, like your AirPort Extreme in Bridge mode. Unfortunately, when in Bridge mode, the AirPort does NOT support providing a guest network.
The only possible option is to reconfigure the Speedport as a bridge and use the Extreme as your Internet router. You would still need the DSL modem provided by the Speedport for Internet connectivity.
