Bridge modifying .mov files?

I am suspecting Bridge to try and drive me nuts by randomly destroying my .mov files when I browse the folder where they are stored (within Bridge).
Briefly: I convert my AVCHD files to .mov ones using ClipWrap (hello Adobe! Premiere can interpret .mts files but not Bridge?) and start adding metadata to them.
A few days/week back, I reopen the same folder and say, half of my .mov files are now unreadable. When I check them in the finder, they appear as "modified today a few minutes ago" and their size is in the few dozen of KB (vs ~100 MB before). Now I have to get back the original and go through the conversion process again...
Before I start screaming, has anybody experienced this? I will stop using Bridge (I was using it for its metadata handling capabilities, but at this price, no thank you).
iMac i7 12GB RAM, Lion, Prod Premium CS 5.5 up-to-date

I was just trying to narrow down the process to see if it was the conversion or the adding metadata that caused the problem.
Can't also imagine this is caused by Bridge, however, writing metadata lets Bridge save data to the file itself. But again, not very familiar with movie files myself I just tried a .mov file and added some metadata to it. Ironically it does get a tiny bit smaller in size after having used the metadata panel (just in the range of 1 or 2 kb).
As Curt already stated, Bridge is a file browser and highly unlikely to overwrite files from 100 MB with only a few kb metadata and deleting the original.
Some other observations. In any case it is wise to use back up systems. It seems you did not have a back up from the converted files, assuming you also don't have a back up of the originals (?) you have a very dangerous workflow. Although Mac is pretty save it is a certainty any HD stops working once, not if but when. Some can last very long, some can't, some warn with different behavior, some don't...
If you have set Bridge to launch at log in (it is a pref settings in Bridge) it is by default hidden. I don't agree with that default but it is a fact. If you don't want that behavior just go to the system preferences / accounts and under start at log in deselect the checkmark in front of Bridge so that it is ready for use when your start up from system is completed.
When stating that the folder is modified at the same time you start Bridge can you clarify on the settings you have for Bridge? Do you have set cache to write to the folder?
I don't have Lion and don't let Bridge write cache to folders but normally pointing Bridge to a folder should not effect the modification date of that folder.

  • No thumbnails or playback of MOV files in Adobe Bridge CC

    Hi
I recently downloaded and installed the latest version of Bridge from the Creative Cloud and I am unable to view thumbnails of .MOV files taken with an Apple iPhone5. I am able to open the file but there is no audio or video in the playback. Anyone else have similar issues? I am able to view these same files in Lightroom CC fine. I am using Windows 7 64-bit. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Only thing I can think of is there must have been some kind of mixup in
the transfer process. Here's what I did: I plugged her phone into our
Macbook Air at home and transferred her stills and movies off from her
camera (using iPhoto) to a connected portable hard drive. From there I
copied and pasted the files onto a removable thumb drive. From there I
brought them to work on my PC and copied them off to a portable hard drive
there. Seems to me the MOV files got lost in translation somehow. It's
possible I didn't do this correctly? I know with MY iPhone images and
movies I copied them directly from my phone onto my computer (PC) when it
showed up as a device in my device listing. It wanted to use iTunes for
this but I bypassed iTunes and did it the old fashioned way. These are the
files that I am able to view correctly on my PC at work in Bridge. So I
guess I need to recheck my workflow here.

What OS are you running.. this is usually only a problem in Mavericks.
If so I recommend you mount the hard disk manually..
    Use Go, Connect to server.
Type in the IP address if static.. eg
    AFP://10.0.1.1
Or the name.. but you will have issues unless the name is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. if you are using bad names.. fix it by a full factory reset in airport utility and give it all names that comply to the above.
    Type in
AFP://TCname.local Where TCname is replaced with the actual name.
You will be asked for the password the first time which is public unless you changed it.. please remember to save this in the keychain.
Copy files then to a new directory you create on the TC.. do not place files inside the TM sparsebundle. Nor directly under the main directory.

  • Bridge CS6 Photo downloader freezes on .mov files

Bridge CS 6 photo downloader freezes on .mov files from a T4i.  To get the video files I've had to use Bridge CS5 photo downloader.
I have PS CS5, PrPro & AE CS6 if this makes a difference.  Photos are no problem downloading.
    Any ideas?  Thanks.

I shoot both.  I use Bridge & ACR CS6 to view and edit Raw files.  CS5 doesn't recognise the Raw files (had to convert to dng before I got Bridge CS6).   CS6 will download both Raw & Jpeg files.  It hangs up on the .mov files.
I use a card reader on my Epson printer.  I've cleared the cache in Bridge. How do I resfresh the prefs in Bridge?

  • Bridge CC freezes when downloading from CF Card .MOV files

I have had a consistant problem since using Bridge CC.  I insert a CF Card to the ready and Bridge CC downloader automatically comes up.  The CF Card often contains JPG, CR2 and .MOV files.  No conversion or other edits are occuring accept for name change.and copyright meta data.  When the download comes to the Canon  5D Mii .MOV file it freezes and wont proceed.  I in fact have to pull up the Task Manager and stop the application to close it.  I am able to use Explorer to browse and down load all the movie flies, just not through Bridge CC - Any ideas?

The same problem is happening to me when trying to access a shared/network drive...
You mean trying to get .mov files from a network?? Otherwise try starting a new thread for this problem. Also be aware that Adobe officially does not support use for Bridge over a network due to the many set ups that are possible. Some get it to work with great care and understanding, others don't succeed.
Bridge also by default has user based cache libraries and you also should have the correct permissions for the things you try to access.

  • No thumbnails for some .mov files Bridge CS5

I'm using Bridge CS5 to organise some video which has been digitised from a sony camera in File Maker Pro X. My operating system is Mac OS X. I have Quicktime player 10.1 and have just checked for updates.
Some of my .mov files show thumbnails which can be watched in Bridge. Other folders just show the thumbnails as black rectangles - these can be watched in a pop up window but not directly in the Bridge preview panel.
The files were all digitised in the same way and recorded on the same camera so should be the same format.
After looking at discussions on here I have tried updating QuickTime and clearing the cache but no dice.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Claire

That is odd that if it was recorded on same camera they are different.  I do know that the thumbnail is a complex issue.  A little foggy on this as it has been awhile, but if you get a black thumb it is the way the marker of the first frame is recorded.  In some cases this shows a black frame.  Hope this gives you some clue to do a web search for the real answer.

  • Not able to move files to new folders in Bridge CS6

Hello all.  I am trying to move files around through bridge CS6 but I keep getting :
" The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient permissions".  How do I fix this annoyance? This is really screwing with my work flow and forcing me not to bother using Bridge.
    Thanks in advance.

This is really an OS problem as it sets permission levels for operations.   What OS?
If using Win OS and an external drive, you can start Bridge by right clicking and choosing "run as administrator".

  • Bridge won't save metadata for .mov files

    Hi.
I could be trying to do something that Bridge can't do (though I have read that it should). I am trying to add metadata to .mov files. Bridge allows me to enter the text both under 'File info' and in the Metadada IPTC Core fields, however when I 'apply' or click OK they don't save.
Well, in the IPTC Core when I click 'apply' they are there until I select another file then go back and they aren't.
I am using Bridge CS5 on a PC with XP.
    Thanks

Thanks Curt Y. Under 'run as' there was two options both of which were noted as administrator - though I could only use one as we don't have the password for the other. I'm not using an external drive.
The strange thing is that there is no problem applying the metadata to images, just mov files.

  • Bridge doesn't play movie files

I have Bridge CS5 set to play movie files when it encounters them but for some reason it has decided to stop doing so.

Thanks for the link but I have a slightly different problem.
I have now discovered that Bridge plays most .mov files but not those in a particular folder. Has anybody any idea why?
I can however play these particular files with Nero. It's just that one would prefer to have Bridge do it when one is working in Bridge. But, it has to be said (and I'm talking about hi def movie files here) Nero plays them smoothly without a hitch whereas Bridge playback is jerky. Why? Is Nero using a different codec and if so can one get Bridge to use the same one?

  • Length of .avi/.mov files in Bridge?

Hi, is it possible to see what the length of your .avi or .mov file is in Bridge?  It gives you file size, date created, etc., but say I want to find all of my background elements that are 10 seconds in length....is there a way to see that info?
    thanks,
    Craig

If the clips are from one and the same tape with a continuous timecode,
subtract the timecode of the second clip from the first clip, this will give you the length of the clip.
You could use the Altenate Timecode for the length of the clip.

  • Help...Move files without changing "date modified"?

I need to move files over from my old dead g4's hard drive to my intel mac book pro - but without altering the "date modified" in my documents and folders. I've pulled them over once, but all the files get tagged with the modification date I pull them onto the new hard drive.
Are there any utilities or software or tricks to do this?
Any help or direction will be appreciated.

When you say <source> is that just the name of the hardrive I'm pulling from "New 250" or is the down to the file level... <New 250>users>documents>tcpa-report.doc>
Terminal requires complete file paths in the UNIX style, using slashes between parts of the path. The root of all paths for files on mounted volumes is "Volumes" but if that is omitted the path defaults to the startup volume. Spaces separate command parts, so you must also "escape" spaces that appear in path names or they will be interpreted as command part separators. To escape a character, either precede it with a backslash ("") or enclose the entire part of the path in quotes.
So, assuming "New 250" is not the startup (boot) volume, the UNIX style path to "tcpa-report" would be:
    /Volumes/New 250/Users/Documents/tcpa-report.doc
If "New 250" is the boot drive, you could also use:
    /Users/Documents/tcpa-report.doc
Fortunately, you don't have to remember any of this if you use the drag & drop capabilities of Terminal. Type the command up to the place where you need to enter a path (including typing the space just before it). Then drag the item whose path you need from the Finder into the Terminal window & drop it there. The path will automatically be formatted, including any escaping needed.
If you need to follow one path with another, just type the single space that must separate them & drag the other file path into the window. Obviously, if the second path doesn't exist yet, you can't do this but you can drag the enclosing item into the window & type the final part of the path yourself. You can also use copy & paste within Terminal: copy by dragging across text with the pointer to highlight it, copy, then paste at the cursor.

  • FCP X movie files keep becoming "Modified"

I've been running into a strange issue where my movie files after import and then being turned into proxy files become "Modified Files". I can seem to relink them and the issue reoccurs after deleting the offending file and re-importing it (then transcoding to proxy).
Any suggestions about what might be causing this issue and how to resolve it? I have a fast approaching deadline and I'd like to resolve this ASAP!

I just found the solution in another thread. In Finder, you need to go into the specific event, select Transcoded Media> High Quality Media. There you will find the  files that are appearing as modified. Just move them to the trash and re-open Final Cut. Everything should be back to normal.
This just happened to me after creating a multicam clip within FCP X. I had never had this happen until today, after udating to Mavericks, so I can't help but think there is a connection there...

  • Nikon D7000 .MOV files in Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5.5

I recently upgraded from Production Premium CS5 to CS5.5. Initially Nikon D7000 .MOV files used in previous CS5 Premiere Pro project would not play well in CS5.5. Now .MOV files do work in both PP and AE CS5.5. Here are the steps I followed. Not recommending you follow my steps exactly, just providing info for those that are interested.
    1.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5 and open previous PP CS5 project, convert project to CS5.5 and rename project file as not to replace previous CS5 project file.
    a.       At this point .MOV files do not play in new project or in AE CS5.5
    b.      Close Premiere Pro and After Effect if still running.
    2.       Using Adobe Bridge CS5.5, batch rename;
    a.       Make copies of original files to new folder location while renaming file extension from .MOV to .mpg
    b.      Let Adobe Bridge finish creating all new thumbnail previews.
    c.       Leave Bridge running in background.
    3.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5, let Premiere finish recreating thumbnail previews if needed.
    a.       Attempt to preview existing .MOV file in project. It worked for me.
    b.      Attempt to play sequence containing .MOV files. It worked for me.
    c.       Attempt to play or modify sequence .MOV files in AE CS5.5 via Dynamic Link within Premiere. It worked for me.
    d.      Close Premiere Pro project and AE projects if open.
    4.       Create new Premiere Pro project and sequence
    a.       Import a different Nikon D7000 .MOV file not previously used or renamed.
    b.      Attempt to play this newly imported .MOV file. This worked for me as well.
    c.       The new, previously un-renamed .MOV file also worked in AE CS5.5 for me.
I will perform additional tests but at the moment Nikon D7000 .MOV files are working for me in CS5.5 after initially performing a batch rename in Bridge CS5.5 from .MOV to .mpg and letting Bridge create preview files. Even .MOV files not renamed now work.
An example of Nikon D7000 footage edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, After Effects CS5.5, and Sound Booth CS5 can be seen on my blog, http://stevelandonsmyth.typepad.com/steve-landon-smyths-blog/2011/07/my-first-hd -video-shoot-with-nikon-d7000.html

    Hello,
I see 2 post in this thread from Todd that say they are working on a fix and it should be out soon.  One is from July, the other from August.  It is now Sept 7th and I still see no patches or fixes for any bugs.  I spent 400 dollars on an upgrade, but is this upgrade going to be supported?
This is making me rethink upgrading to the .5's in the future.
It is a minor bug to most, but in that sense it should be an easy quick fix. Am I wrong? Is this really a complicated issue?
I apologize if this comes off like a rant, but thats kinda what it is.  It is not hard to batch rename files, but its a pain to have to relink all those files in PP.

  • Can't move files - The operation can't be completed because the item is in use.

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to move some files off an external hard drive to my macbook pro. These are mostly video files.
However, there's a handful of files which are causing the following error:
"The operation can’t be completed because the item “XXX” is in use."
I've no idea what's wrong but would appriaicte some help. All the previous threads I can find with the same error are related to moving items to the trash and I actually followed some of the advice (shutting down etc) but it still didn't help.
Thanks anyone and everyone for the assistance.

I was investigating this same problem on our iMac running OS 10.10. When I checked Activity Monitor for the DiskUnmountWatcher process, I noticed that with two users logged in simultaneously, there were two instances of most of the system processes, including that one. If I logged out of the other user account, and consequently only had one instance of the DiskUnmountWatcher process running, I was able to copy multiple files onto the network drive with no problem.
If I were to speculate, I'd probably guess that DiskUnmountWatcher is adding some metadata to new files when it detects them being added to a mounted drive. If there are two instances of the process running, they both try to modify the file's metadata simultaneously and generate errors.
TL;DR: If you encounter this problem, try logging out all users other than the one trying to move files.
