Bridge "open with" issue Mac OS

Hi & Thanks,
I am using CS6 on a Mac and when I choose to open a file with the "open with" command from the edit menu or right clicking the file I get mutliple options of numorus editors. Photoshop, Nik apps, Color sync utility, Preview. They will all open but some open with older versions.
Bottom line is I need to pair down Bridge's offered choices to just one of every application. Yes only one version of every app is installed.

I appreciate your reply. I resolved the issue I was incurring. I kept a clone of my hardrive mounted on the desktop at all times. The primary OS that Bridge was operating under would access this clone for choices too. Weird yes, so once I ejected the disk the issue went away.

'Open with' issues

I'm having an issue with the Open with function. I used to be able to double click on an Adobe Illustrator EPS and the file would open in Illustrator and when double clicking an Adobe Photoshop file, it would open in Photoshop. Something has changed and now these files are not recognized as unique to separate applications, all EPS files open in Illustrator because the Open with all is set to Illustrator.
Is there a way to set things back to the way they were when it seemed Finder based its decision on how to open on the icon?

Exactly what I was going to suggest, BUT . . . it failed for me. Every time I went to change the app this way it always reverted. But I think it's not the OS, but Adobe CS and later. I have Photoshop (reg) and CS, and the moment I started using CS it high jacked all my files. Right after the first startup of CS all the regular Adobe file icons changed to the CS ones and I could no longer reselect the regular app in the file info window and get it to apply to all. And it wouldn't always stick for the single file either. I stuffed PSCS and all was well again. Unstuffed it and everything went CS.
But another problem is that PS is dog slow in 10.4.5.

Irritating "Open with" issue in the context menu

Hi all,
When I click on a file and then choose "Open with" in the context menu, I get multiple instances of the same program instead of just one instance. For example, if I click on a document, the context menu may have 4 instances of Preview and 3 instances of Safari, etc. Is there anyway to eliminate the multiple instances?

This usually results from corruption in the LaunchServices cache. Numerous fixes have been posted and it appears that they do work, for the most part. Search the forum here and you should find a few topics.
I've read of a few problems encountered after deleting the cache files. Use your own discretion.
It basically involves deleting the two LaunchServices files followed by a restart... Go to Library>Caches
It might also be necessary to delete a preference file as well...
Home>Library>Preferences>com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
Some third party utilities offer this service as well...Tiger Cache Cleaner, Onyx, etc.

Adding and deleting applications in Bridge "Open With" menu

How do you add or remove applications from the context sensitive open with menu in Bridge CS4? Just to make sure everyone knows exactly which menu I am talking about,here is an example, right click a .bmp thumbnail image in bridge cs4, go to the "Open With" menu and select which application you want the image opened up in. I would like to add Photoshop cs4 to this menu and am unable to determine exactly how this is accomplished. Any and all help greatly associated. Thanks in advance Rick

Have you visited the preferences/file type associations and set the default for bmp to CS4?
If that does not fix it you will have to go into the OS and set that up as an option.

Bridge opens with dozens of layers underneath

When I open Bridge the preview is just a green square. Using the default workspace if I use the double headed arrow to move the borders between the thumbs and preview window or the metadata/keyword windows it reveals dozens of the same layers beneath it. The Preview window does not show a picture until one moves the thumbnail window border to near the left edge. It is like the deepest layer is the true one and the others are duplicates stacked on top of it. Has anyone else had this occur?
Purged cache and used default workspace, but it changed nothing. Also, opened multiple times and went to other files. No change. Using Version 2.1.1.9. It did this once a few weeks ago, but thought it was because I opened CS3 first. At that time when I closed them both and opened Bridge first the problem went away. Did not do that today.

Discovered a fix for the problem, not sure why. If the window is maximized it shows as I stated above. If I click restore down (middle window icon) it works correctly, even if I enlarge the window to full monitor. If I maximize it reverts again. Am using Vista and 2 monitors. Can work with this now that I know what to do, but a little puzzling. For anyone not seeing a preview, might be worth while to see if maximize window mode is the problem.

Flash installer will not open with my mac os X 10.10

I have downloaded the flash player update v.16 to update my mac os X 10.10 and it when I double click on the install file and put in my log in and password, the install wizard never opens.

when I double click on the adobe_flash_player_installer_16 file, the adobe flash player icon appears and I click on it...I get the message "install adobe flash player" is an application downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it. I click "open" and another window pops up that says "Install Adobe Flash Player wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this." I do and click OK. The flash icon drops down to the port area and then disappears and no flash update occurs.

CS5 - Can't "Open With" Photoshop in Bridge?

I have CS5 installed and I am my defaults for Opening is Elements 8 on my
Vista machine and "nothing" on my XP laptop.
When on either machine and I right click an image, Photoshop is NOT an option to Open With.
If I go to preferences, I can manually set the default, but this is not an acceptable solution as I need my defaults to be something different.
For example, I need the default for my Nikon RAW files to remain Nikon Capture NX2, but I want the ability to right click and select the application I want to use.
How to I add Photoshop (or any other application) to the "Open With" List?

What you see on other programs in the list (aside the default, which is defined for Bridge only) of programs which a certain filetype were openend in the OS once.
For example (close Bridge / CS) and choose Quicktime as the default program for opening TIF in XP and you will have it in the list after Bridge was started again.
I'm afraid you need to do that for every application (close Bridge, choose a different default app for opening TIF in the OS, open Bridge again, and so on) you want to have in the list for a certain filetype.
When done don't forget to change it back to the default program you want to have it opened in the OS, f.e. CS5.
No need to make an application the default program (uncheck "always use the selected program to open this kind of file") - just say once "open with" and you will find it in Bridges "open with" list

About 'Open With' on bridge CS6

Running CS6 tools from the 'cloud' package
My goal is to have two options under Bridges' Right click/open with list.
1) photoshop CS6
2) Image Data Converter (Sony's raw converter for *.arw)
I see no way to effect this. Using windows settings, I can make Image Data Converter the default for
*.arw files, then it appears on bridges' 'open with' list, but then there is no option for photoshop CS6.
Again using windows settings to make the default photoshop... I then have photoshop on bridges' 'open with'
list, but no 'Image Data Converter'.
But in both cases the only other thing on the list, is something called 'Com Surrogate 6.1', something I've
never heard of and have no idea what it is.   Further, nothing happens when I click that item.
So, what can I do to have "photoshop" and "Image Data Converter" on bridges' 'open with' menu?
I'm confused by Bridges' Edit/preferrences/ File assosciations, in that it appears NOT to offer any way to set
associations for Bridge... At the Sony item on the list it only offers you an opportunity to set the default for
'Windows explorer'... And the 'Com Surrgate 6.1' seems to be non-negoatiable.... Makes me wonder why the
File Associations is there on a Bridge preferences dialog if it does not offer a chance to make settings
concerning Bridge. I already have several ways to get to the windows explorer settings.

Most users either use one program or another I believe. Since ACR and the camera makers program are not the same there may be differences in how the programs write and read metadata. If you use Sony program do some tests to see if Bridge can read it and vice versa.
That is also true for me... however occasionally I want this or that functionality of the sony tool. It has a few different adjustments related to options on sony cameras and also has a straight forward 'sharpen' adjustment. Whereas I think
sharpening may be hidden under `clarity' (which also appears to do a few other things besides sharpen) in ACR.
Thanks for the heads up about meta data... as it happens I rarely am concerned with meta data and so had not noticed
any of that.
Oh, and thanks for the input about 'com surrogate...'.
PS - I just noticed after a close and reopen of bridge, that after having set the sony tool as default in prefs, I now see ACR is an item on right click menu... not under "Open with" but a stand alone item "open with camera raw" all by itself.   -- Cool.
And I have a hunch if I change the default back to PS in prefs, I will see the sony tool as stand alone... that would be the
best result.. since I don't use the sony tool all that often.

Will EC support setting default file type and Open With from file menu?

The default file types I can live without, but at least allow for Open With on right click from Windows Explorer.
I currently have EC set in the Open With programs list, but EC does not comply for any files I opt to open it with (.css, .php, .html etc).
EC open but not the file I choose.
Also, even though the above use case is not ideal when if I do attempt an Open With when EC is already open, a new application session starts instead of attempting to open in the currently active app frame. It would be ideal to allow for single app frame, multiple files when Open With is employed.

Thanks for the feedback. How Edge Code treats files is definitely something we know isn't ideal and it's something we're looking at fixing soon. There's currently a story on the Brackets backlog that adresses the Open With issue - https://trello.com/c/GhF1Bgf9
And it based on howit ranks in that priority it looks like we could potentially take that into Edge Code over the next couple of months.
This is definitely a feature that we think is important before we consider ourselves 1.0 so it's high priority.

Acrobat 9 fails to open with single click.

facts:
Bridge created: the pdf that fails is PDF 9, PDF Producer: PDF Library 9.0, PDF version 1.6, 448 kb, [a single page thumbnail creation by Adobe bridge] opens with acrobat 9.0, application = empty
windows Access created: pdf that works with single click: size = 13.1 mbytes, PDF producer = distiller 9. [created inside windows office access 2000], pdf version = 1.5, application = acrobat pdf maker 9.0 for access.
Now for the annoying parts
move both PDFs to their own folders. single click both, the one created by access opens. the one created by bridge doesn't, Buuutt it does stick an adobe pdf in the task manager showing adobe pdf IS open because of the mouse click, but it doesn't open the file, kill the adobe task. Also this one created by bridge, I insert the image into access, and access opens it just fine to my annoyance. I have to immediately close it in acrobat to do anything with the access page I've just imported the image into.
create shortcuts on the desktop, and they both open from the shortcuts with a single click.
Oh yeah the bridge one opens if I right click, and choose to open with acrobat 9 at the very top of the right click menu.
What's going on here ? And how do I get the bridge file to open with a single click and not making it a shortcut ?

I received the same error today. It's been working for weeks. At the moment I am working on Windows 8 Consumer Preview with Office 2013 installed on an x64 platform, however that hasn't bothered it since it was installed. However, today I received an Adobe Update, I don't even remember what products were being updated, the update screen popped up, downloaded, installed, the progress bar got to 100% and said 2 seconds remaining and then the module crashed. The cloud activation hasn't worked since. I first get a message that says "We are unable to activate CS6 Creative Cloud Membership Subscription Edition", below that it says, "Product Activation is required to use this product" and below that it says "You must have an active internet connection to activate this product. Please check your connection settings and choose try again." When you click on Try Again, it sends up a new message box that says "Activation Failure". Needless to say I have an active connection. Even though it always worked before, I added Adobe Application Manager to the Windows 8 firewall exceptions list, still no dice. I've rebooted the computer twice.
Update: Turned out this followed another defect identified earlier. It is peculiar to Acrobat X. If you open a different application in the suite, login if asked, then close the application, Acrobat will function again normally.

Photoshop CS6 stopped working. Cannot open it. Bridge opens, but without any of my files populating it. HELP

Photoshop CS6 will not open any longer. Clicks on the icon on the desktop do nothing. Yet I was working with it yesterday. Bridge opened with my files populating it. I turned off computer hoping CS6 would reset. CS6 still does not open, but now Bridge opens without any of my files. Please HELP.
I am using Windows 7, 64 bit.

I'm watching my movies in VLC player, but my Mac always try to open them in QuickTime.
I tried to go Open with... and select VLC.app and click 'Always open with', but Mac remembers this for this file only, and when I tried to open another again whit QT.

- I can only make ONE contact sheet in CS6 (from AUTOMATE) from pictures indicated in Bridge. If I want to make another contact sheet I need to shut down and restart CS6.
- Camera RAW: if I change any setting in Camera RAW (except exposure), having first optimized the exposure, the exposure will automatically return to zero. Sometimes when I've set exposure and cropped the picture in Camera RAW Plug-In, the effects are lost just by opening the picture in CS6.
- Sometimes if I crop a picture in Camera RAW, it may be impossible to open it again from Bridge!
- I cannot do lens corrections in Camera RAW, at all. The Camera RAW comment is that "it cannot load the correct lens type". Why?

Are you writing that when you select a large number of images in the bridge like a hundred thumbnails when you then use Bridge menu Tools>Photoshop>Contact Sheet II that Photoshop only produces a single contact sheet for the first few thumbnails and fails to produce additional contact sheets for the other selected thumbnails? Photoshop contact sheet II script should create as many contact sheet as needed for the numbers of thumbnails selected. Perhaps the script is hung or you have exhausted your machine resources.
ACR Crop tool does not crop the RAW file it records crop settings to be used during the conversion process. Camera RAW DATA is not altered. The only changes made to RAW Files is ACR Metadata may be added. Anything you do in ACR can be un-done in ACR. If you can not open a RAW File in ACR the Files is either corrupt or from a new camera ACR does not support yet. ACR should not corrupt RAW files.
If you do not have a lens profile for ACR I think you should still be able to do lens correction manually in ACR.
Some of what you write I don't follow could you post some screen captures of your problems often a picture helps.

Since I like to double-click or hit return in the bridge, I am constantly having to wait until the file opens in CS6, quit CS6 an then open it another way to get it into Photoshop CC 2014. I tried to disable CS6 by hiding it, but then double-clicking Bridge did nothing. Any ideas why this is happening?

Check and adjust the File Type Associations in the bridge cc preferences.
