Bridge opening office files with xml converter

Adobe Bridge CS3 is opening all my excel files with xml converter and promting me to save as.  How do I switch it to default to Microsoft Excel when opening these files?

These options are handled in the Bridge prefs under File Associations, but if I remember correctly this is somewhat limited in CS3 since it only handles Adobe files that install their associations. Any other file type is handled by whatever the opoerating system offers. Well, you can always look and give it a try...

  • Sorry, something went wrong - Open Office File from Search Results Page with Office Web Apps

    Hi,
I'm getting "Sorry, something went wrong" error when I'm trying to open any office document from inside Search Results Page with Office Web Apps, the same error is appearing in the document preview as well.
The error in SharePoint logs says that the file cannot be found.
Please note that this error is coming only when the "Filename" of the document is not written in English (in my case its written with Arabic characters).
If I try to open it from the document library, its opening properly with no errors.
    The only difference between two URLs (document URL in Search Results and in Document Library) is the value for "sourcedoc" attribute;
In the case of Search Results page, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is kept as is with Arabic characters.
While in the Document Library, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is converted into different characters (something like: "B9%D9%85%D9%8").
Anybody have an idea on how to overcome this issue, implement a workaround or modify the "sourcedoc" behavior?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Dear Wendy,
Thanks for your efforts, I already tried your last suggestion before, but this didn't solve my problem.
Actually my end users are accessing this portal using ADFS and HTTPS.
Finally I got this solved, I have done below to get my overall solution working perfectly:
    - First I have configured Windows Authentication and ADFS Authentication on the same zone which is the default zone.
    - The issue when opening office documents with Arabic file name has disappeared as a result of first change.
    - Then I have faced an issue where we are not able to crawl content under Default zone, however we have to do so, after too many efforts, I found that its related to the Load-balancer/proxy, I have made the crawler server
    to crawl himself (http://CrawlServerName:PortNumber).
    - Also a change on Alternate Access Mapping was needed, I have set one of the extended zones (which is running Windows Authentication only) as Internal URL for the Default Zone, and this is was the URL I used for Crawling.
I have configured Server Name Mappings to make sure we got proper URLs in Search Results.
    - Then we faced another issue, which is Authentication selection on login page (How to bypass this page, and authenticate using ADFS auto), I used this solution (Set Custom Sign In Page):
    http://0ut0ftheb0x.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/skip-the-authentication-selection-page-at-_logindefault-aspx-in-a-mixed-authentication-environment/.
    - I faced one more issue as a result of above workaround; Sign Out functionality wasn't working well; users get logged in automatically whenever I click on Sign Out. I solved this by modifying the "Sign Out" Control under _layouts;
I made it to redirect users to ADFS Sign Out Page instead of SharePoint Sign Out Page (I know its not recommended, but I don't have any other option).

  • Open JPG files with Bridge RAW by double clicking?

    I am using CS4 Bridge 3.0.0.0.464
When I double click on a JPG file it opens in Photoshop.
I prefer to edit my JPG files with Bridge camera RAW.
At present, I have to right-click and choose 'open in camera RAW'.
Is there a workaround for this?

You're all over the map with that description, perhaps assuming some things are coupled that are not, normally (Camera Raw, Smart Object, Crop).
Start with the basics:  There is a Camera Raw preference that determines whether JPEGs and TIFFs will be opened by default through Camera Raw by default.  It's important to note that once you have opened a file with Camera Raw, metadata is stored so that it will open that same way every time, so these settings apply to JPEG or TIFF images that haven't been opened before.
In Photoshop, click Edit - Preferences - Camera Raw...

  • Can't open pdf file with pdf.xml file extension

    Hi
I can't open a file with pdf.xml extension. Does anyone have this problem? How did you resolve it?

Actually, the extension is just .xml. Anything before the period doesn't count as part of the extension.
Your browser may be able to open it, if not see here ---->XML File (What It Is & How To Open One)

  • Every time I am trying to open Quicktime files with my Quicktime it wants to convert the files. Why?

Every time I am trying to open Quicktime files with my Quicktime it wants to convert the files. Why?

QuickTime version 10.3 will "convert" older legacy codecs into a more modern version. You can save this newer version and delete the older one.
This can only mean that support for those codecs will be removed completely some time in the future.

  • Opening .doc files with wrong program

    Hi *,
first I've installed open office. A few month later I installed micorsoft office. After that I converted all office files. Everything was working fine. Now my mac forgot to open .doc files with ms word, he chooses oo word. I do'nt have these problems with .xls files.
Where are the global settings that I can tell my mac to open .doc files with ms word (I will not use "open with" each time;-)
    Thanks in advance

Select the file. Do a "Get-Info" from the File menu. (command-I). In the drop down menu "open with" select the program and then confirm you want all files like these to open with that program.

  • Unable to open Office files on SharePoint 2010 sites on Windows Server 2008 R2

Setup: Windows SharePoint Server 2010 sp1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (hosted on VMWare VSphere ESXi 5.1)
Secured using Domain SSL from GlobalSign.
    Client OS: Windows 7 Professional 32bit & Windows XP SP3 32 bit
    Browsers: IE10, IE9,IE8
    Office: Office 2010, Office 2010 sp2 (both 32bit), Office 2007
Problem Description: Only recently, users started having issues with opening Office files (Word, Excel) on SharePoint sites. When you click on an Office file e.g. Word Document, it comes up with the option to select "Ready only" or "Edit"
and choosing either options and re-entering the login credentials results in the
application hanging. If you leave it for a while (about 5 minutes) sometimes the file opens and other times it gives the error "Could not open https://portal.com/XXX/XXX/Document.docx". Even when it opens, it's extremely
sluggish and can't do anything other than end it via Task Manager. Same with excel files.
This happens to all the users all different OS and browsers.
On XP Pro SP3 w/ IE8, when you click on the file, the login prompt keeps popping back up repeatedly and if you click cancel, the file loads up anyway but no way of saving back onto the SharePoint site.
IMPORTANT: One exception is when logged in as a Site Collection Administrator, it
works like a dream bizarrely!!!! Opens, Edits and saves back fine on the SharePoint site.
    Have tried following:
    1. Repaired Office 2010 Pro; Uninstalled/Re-installed Office 2010 Pro
    2. Reset Browser, unticked automatically detect proxy settings.
    3. Emptied OfficeOfflineCache on Client
    4. Removed WebDAV from the SharePoint server
    5. Added Antivirus folder exclusion (We use SEP 11) on the SharePoint Server
Note: PDF files opens fine for all users.
I would immensely appreciate if anybody has got any advice/pointers/suggestions. Desperately out of ideas at the moment.
    regards,
    Compter Sez No!

    Hi,
According to your description, When you try to open a Microsoft Office document from a SharePoint 2010 site in a client application, the document opens slowly and you are prompted to enter your credentials multiple times.
This issue may be because of SharePoint Web Front End (WFE) server(s) has Antivirus software installed and the exceptions are not set correctly.
I recommend to remove the antivirus software or set the correct permissions for the antivirus software to resolve the issue.
To configure the antivirus exceptions, please follow the guidelines in the below articles:
    KB943620:
Folders to exclude when you perform a file-level antivirus scan on a server operating system.
    KB952167:
Certain folders may have to be excluded from antivirus scanning when you use a file-level antivirus program in SharePoint.
    KB943556:
Recommended file and folder exclusions for Microsoft Forefront Client Security or Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Can't open a file with spaces on the filename.

Lets say I have a file:
    /home/orv/Open - Me - Please.txt
When I double click to open that file with any program, the result is something like this:
    "Unable to find /home/orv/Open%20-%20Me%20-%20Please.txt"
I'm not sure what to call that process of converting the file name so I've been unable to google it up to find a fix or a way to change the behavior of the file manager.
I've checked the settings in Nautilus and nothings there. Any clues? Thank you!

I tried removing everything in my home directory to erase all settings, still the same problem.
I tried using a different file manager and still the same problem.
Here's another example of my problem and its quirks:
Lets say I have a file called:
    /home/orv/I am a Movie.avi
In nautilus or thunar, double-clicking that file so I can play it with Mplayer will give an error:
    Failed to open file:///home/orv/I%20am%20a%20Movie.avi
However, when I drag and drop using the file manager into Mplayer, it works.
So my problem is this automatic conversion of whitespaces into the %20 which I don't know how to turn off.

This may be a file association problem.  To solve that:
    In Windows 7:
    1. Right-click the file,
    2. Select "Open With"
    select [Your Program Here]
    3. Check always use this program.
    In Windows XP:
    1. Locate the file as you have described above
    2. Right click the file
    3. Select Open with from the pop-up menu
    4. Click Choose default program…
    5. Select Excel in the Recommended Programs box
    6. Check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
    7. Click on OK.
    1.  Make Excel not available from Office 2007 listed under Programs and Features in Control Panel.
    2. Take a registry backup using the steps given here
    3. In the registry editor window expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and navigate to .xls right and delete it.
    4. Exit Registry Editor
    5. Undo Step 1 to make Excel available.
    6.  Restart the computer and verify it the issue is fixed.

  • Issues opening RAW files with CS2...

I find if a bit complicated to open RAW files with Photoshop CS2 in iPhoto 08 (I'm using OS X 10.5). Currently the only way I've been able to do this is do a search for the file name in the finder, at the bottom of the Finder window, in the path, double click on the folder that the RAW files are in (user/my name/pictures/iphoto library/originals/2007/RAW files), then highlight the NEF files (the cameras a Nikon D200) I want to open, hit command/O then Photoshop CS2 opens the files in the RAW converter. If I try this from CS2 (command/O) the path goes as for as iphoto library (user/my name/pictures/iphoto library), at this point the iphoto library icon is ghosted out and can not be opened. If I drag and drop the image from iPhoto to the CS2 icon in the dock it opens as a jpg not the RAW file I need. If I try clicking my way to the folder from the left side of the finder, my name/pictures/iphoto library this is as far as I can go. There's something strange going on here. How can you go to a folder only one way and not the others? There seems to "hidden" folders now.
So... My question (finally), how can I simply open RAW files from iPhoto 08 in CS2?

In iPhoto's Advanced preferences select the checkbox under RAW Photos: "Use RAW when using external editor". That will open the Cr2 file in the raw editor. To get the edit to show in iPhoto you'll need to click on the Open Image button so the jpg version is created with the edits you made to the RAW file. Then when you save you'll need to navigate in the Save window to the Modified folder and save it into the folder representing the event that the original is in. It's not easy. I've not done much with RAW, just a few tests, so there may be an easier way to get iPhoto to recognize the edited version.
If you don't use the Open File and close iPhoto won't display the edits you made to the RAW file.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Opening a file with a .WPS Ext.

Does anyone know how to open a file with the Extension of .WPS? The file was created on a PC but i can't get it to open on my MAC. Maybe i don't have the right program. What program creates this Extension? Sorry if this is not the right place for this question.

.wps is for a +Word Perfect+ file. make a backup copy and try changing the extension to .doc or .txt and you might be able to open and read it.
else, you may take a look @ http://www.dataviz.com/products/maclinkplus/mlp_xlators.html. AFAIK, *open office* should be able to open .wps files, too.

  • Why can I no longer open .doc files with Word2011

I can no longer open .doc files with Word 2011.  .docx files are not a problem.  Everything stops responding as soon as I try to open a .doc file and I have to do a manual reboot (by holding the power button down).  This seems to coincide with my update to Mavericks OSX.  I have Word version 14.3.9.
A colleague of mine is having the exact same problem.
I tried repairing my disk permissions but this didn't help.
    Please advise.

For the D600 NEF's you have two alternatives: (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)  Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3  Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3  You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click.
