Bridge painfully slow in one certain folder only -

The folder is located in Pictures > then inside a client named folder. All the edited pictures and RAW files are there, but when I click on any file, the ball of death starts spinning for about 5 seconds, it goes away, hangs for another 5 seconds, then the "selection border" finally shows up. If I rename the file, it does the same ritual. And then I click on the next picture, then again. So... it takes me a good minute to change a file name (not the suffixes). What could be going on?

Yes, absolutely!
I have purged the cache and if I try to compact cache, Bridge crashes.
Bridge 2.x was a dog and cache management its Achilles heel. It should have been fixed for free. Fortunately, Bridge 3.x (in CS4) is an entirely different animal, stable and very fast.
You need to ferret out the corrupted file(s).

InDesign is working extremely slow in one certain document – any suggestions how to solve this?

I just updated and tested the performance in both C6, CC and CC2014, and also tried deleting the SavedData file before starting InDesign, but the performance is still very slow (10-30 seconds between every move I make). It seems that the problem is only occurring in one certain document. Any ideas how to find the bug or "clean" the document?

Thanks for your input Bart and Doc – I tried both deactivating the preflight and saving as IDML without results. I think I found the "bug" though: a vectorized pattern which I had copy-pasted directly from Illustrator. After removing the vector everything seems to run smoothly again

Smart Folders - How do I set it to search one particular folder only?

I want to set up a Smart Folder that will basically do the following:
1: Look in folder called "Client Work".
2: Find files modified in the last 1 week.
That's it. Point 2 I can easily manage, but I can't figure out how on earth I am supposed to set the Smart Folder to only apply its searches to one particular folder on my hard drive? I really can't figure out which option under "Other..." I am supposed to be using.
I'm sure there must be a simple solution though -- can someone please tell me what it is?

On the locations bar in the Finder Search window (where it says Servers Computer Home Others...) pick others and navigate to (with the + button), or drag the folder you want in the window and make sure it is the only folder selected. You will then have another button on the location bar Folder "Client Work". Select that button and save the search as a Smart Folder.

Very Slow FTP from Root folder only

We manage several clients with Dreamweaver CS3. Only one client is having a problem with slow FTP transfers for files exclusively in the root folder of the site. This client is using Check In/Check Out.
If you SAVE AS the file to a directory in the site - that file no longer has an issue - it's just the files saved in the root folder. When attempting to upload one of these files, Dreamweaver appears to freeze for several minutes and then tells you that it has transferred the file. If you select several files in the root folder to upload, the same thing happens but only one file transfers.
I'd appreciate anyone with a similar experience to weigh-in here. Is there any way to fix this problem?

I think I discoverd something. I have two different frames that I paste inline in some text in a table. The one is an .ai file and the other is a text frame.
The text frame created in InDesign has a paragraph style and a character style. When I paste the frame with the .ai file it pastes quickly and the text tool returns for use almost immediately. When I paste the frame with the text it takes a while to display and about 10 seconds to return the text tool for use.
Has anyone seen this behavior?

When I open one particular folder to play the games in it the pointer turns into a pinwheel and I cant open the game or close the folder unless I shut down my computer. Never happened before and does not happen with any other folder on the desktop.

Try this. Open one of your files. The window that contains your picture is named at the top. Command click on the name and you'll see the entire path starting with its name and then moving to the folder, the folder it is contained in, etc all the way to down to the hard drive volume name. This should tell you where to find the folder.

That sounds horrible. There are a number of reasons it could occur.
The first thing to do is ensure you have adequate backups, because what you describe can be a symptom of impending disk failure.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting. There are four separate parts to it; read everything first.
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:

You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.

Use Time Machine on ONLY one specific folder?

I wish to use the Time Machine function to backup only one specific folder on my computer, the DROPBOX folder.
How can I implement this and inform Time Machine of my choice?
According to my first investigations, I only have the choice to select folders to EXCLUDE. This makes the setup of Time Machine unconfortable.

Makes no sense to backup the dropbox folder alone, Dropbox It is "cloud storage" and has its own backup. Dropbox keeps a snapshot every time you save a file. You can preview and restore.
If you go to the DROPBOX website you can view deleted file from the trash can icon (see below.)
From there it is a matter of Restore the file. This would work for accidentally deleted files, there maybe a 30day archive limit so read the small print for details.
If it is imperative to your backup plan, just drag and drop your folder to any external storage device, just not the Time Machine HD/partition.

How can I restrict a search to one folder only?

The problem: I have many files with the same designation (i.e., img038.tif -- usually from a scan). I would like to search only within one folder (sometimes with subfolders, as well as files), rather than in my entire computer.

Possible to encrypt only ONE email folder?

I would really love some help with this; I've been banging my head against the wall trying to achieve something that is seemingly so simple and basic.
We want to use an Email app that will allow us to encrypt only ONE email folder. Access to the rest of the email should be open to all users of the computer, just the one folder needs to be encrypted or password protected. Apparently this is not possible in Outlook, because in Outlook for Mac all of the folders are now integrated into one database and so cannot be encrypted individually as they can on PC.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to achieve this? I am considering using Mac's Mail, but can't find Mail file structure on my Lion machine to see if I can access the individual mailboxes separately. Does anyone know where to find Mail's folder structure? I looked in the Library but found nothing for Mail, as it used to be in previous OSs.
Am open to third party software work arounds, other email clients, whatever. I would really appreciate any suggestions!

It's located in your user Library folder which is now normally hidden in Lion.
In the Finder hold down the option key to reveal the Library folder and select Go>Library>Mail and you find the Mail files.

Auto Import - Is only ONE watch folder allowed across several catalogs?

I am looking to confrim that Lightroom v4.4 only allows for one watch folder to be set up under File>Auto Import and therefore I cannot set up a differnet watch folder for each of my multiple catalogs.
I represent several artists and need to manage their image database separately and thought I would be able to auto import from a folder they drop images to; But now I realize Lightroom may only allow one watch folder overall because when I open a catalog I notice the watch folder is set to what I selected when the previous catalog was being used.
Is their a way to have each catalog watching a folder unique to it or is only one watch folder possible?

Installation of camera profiles and x-rite Profiles show up only in a certain folder of a catalogue

Dear all,
I'm working in a Maverics environment on which LR 5 is running. I've tried to install the camera profiles for the Nikon D800 by copying them to the users Library/Applicaton Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Camera Profiles. After re-starting LR the profiles didn't show up. In a second attempt I tried to impoprt them with the extention manager which didn't work.
The second problem I'm facing is, that I've created camera profiles with x-rite. The profiles show up only in a certain folder in LR in the same catalogue. This means in this certain folder named shootings i can choose the x-rite porfiles. When I go -without leaving the catalogue- to an other folder ie. named sports, I can not see the profiles.
It would be great if somebody has a useful idea

See the instruction below for the location where your profiles should be placed. If they are placed in the same folder where Lightroom install package places the profiles created by Adobe they will not be recognized.
Your custom Camera Raw & Lens Profiles should be installed to the User folders…
Lightroom 5 no longer uses the shared ProgramData (Windows) / Application Support (Mac) folders for Camera or Lens Profiles. Instead, it stores the built-in profiles with its program files.
When you create camera or lens profiles, they must be stored in the user locations listed below. If you previously stored custom profiles in other locations, you’ll need to move them to these user folders, otherwise Lightroom won’t be able to find them.
Windows—C: \ Users \ [your username] \ AppData \ Roaming \ Adobe \ CameraRaw \ CameraProfiles \
Mac—Macintosh HD / Users / [your username] / Library / Application Support / Adobe / CameraRaw / CameraProfiles /
For the lens profiles, substitute the LensProfiles folder for the CameraProfiles folder.
The camera and lens profile file extensions are:
.dcpr—camera profile recipe file used for creating/editing a profile in the DNG Profile Editor
.dcp—camera profile
.lcp—lens profile

If the folders were created in the Photos app on the iPad, they don't really contain copies of the photos. They contain pointers to those photos that allow them to appear in the albums that you create. Consequently, they cannot be imported to the computer. Those albums are for local organization on the iPad only And cannot be imported.
You should be able to select the indicidual phots that you want to import, as far as I know. I can do it on a Mac using iPhoto or Image Capture, so I assume that Windows will allow you to pick and choose which photos you want to import.

Wrt54G painfully slow at certain times

i've had this problem for a long time, using a DSL connection in canada.
at certain times, the wireless signal is painfully slow, most often not working at all. this happens at an odd hour such as late at night when you know there's no interference from other wireless products, and then in the morning it's working fine again.
for a while i thought it was my linksys usb adapter, but then the same behaviour happens on my dell laptop's internal wireless adapter.
what sort of things should i look into doing to fix this?

I have the same problem, with a Cable connection (Comcast). The wired connection is ok. The wireless, however, will work ok for a week, and then slow to a crawl. I'm talking downloads that were 90Kb/sec now slowed down to 3Kb/sec.
I solved it once by completely resetting the router and setting it up again. That worked for a whole week, and now I'm back to the same problem. So... it was a time consuming and very temporary fix.
Love to hear any answers to this slow connection connundrum.

Thunderbird will only open on one local folder. No other window, no access to accounts. Reinstalling doesn't help.

I have 4 accounts and about 30 local folders. Thunderbird is stuck with one local folder open. Cannot access any other page, or any accounts. Reinstalling does not help, nor does restarting the computer. I have Thunderbird 31.5.0 on Yosemite 10.10.2.
