Our Bridge has been acting very strange. It keeps giving a dialog box of "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. ... purge central cache" For one, I can't find the central cache and two, I've purged the cache in bridge. Shouldn't that help? There's just all kinds of weird stuff going on. I suppose it does have something to do with the central cache, so maybe someone can tell me where to find it.
When I use the burn/dodge tool sometimes it drags and staggers and takes forever to complete whatever I'm burning/dodging. When I try to delete an image from the dock, it won't disappear but it won't display either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The Central Cache is the Bridge Cache.
It's referred as the Central Cache to differentiate it from the individual folder's cache or even the individual image cache.

  • Purging the Central Cache problem

Bridge in CS4 is giving me this message to purge the central cache in cache preferences.  I've read several postings about this issue but am finding the information vague or conflicting.   It seems I do not want to use the purge option in preferences. And I haven't read too many postings that mention deleting what's in the cache.  If I don't delete it, how do I get around this error message?  And if I do delete it, does it damage my raw files in anyway?  And if I'm not using the purge option, from where do I delete them?  Any insights will be greatly appreciated!!

Bearing in mind that the cache is only storing stuff to aid the display in Bridge,  ie thumbnail and preview data, you can reduce its size by reducing the things that Bridge caches automatically when you navigate to a folder.
You can also reduce the maximum cache size in preferences and elect not to keep 100% previews in cache.
The best thing you can do is to read this Knowledge Base article (if you haven't already) it's all in there!
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405357.html
The bit about thumbnail quality is important.

  • Purging central cache consequences

I have a problem brige cannot read the cache and I am told to purge the central cache, I want to know the consequences of this.

It does what it says, it purge the central cache. You can also manual delete it from your system, the path is shown in Bridge preferences Cache section.
When you restart Bridge it creates a new but empty cache meaning it has to build your thumbs and previews again. No more, no less. This can take some time depending on amount of files, file size and the power of your system.
If you want all files cached again the easiest way is to quit as many apps as possible and in Bridge select the main folder holding your files and subfolders.
Use menu view / show items from subfolders. This will cache all the files in your main folder automatically. But as said, it can take a bit of time, I often let it run overnight and have a fresh start in the morning

  • Purging Central Cache

While I am in Ater Effects CC and want to apply some animation presets I get the following message....Bridge is encountering a problem and wants me to purge my central cache.....I've never done that before....how do I do that and what will it impact in other areas of after effects??

In the Bridge menu, click Edit > Preferences, select the Cache tab, then click the Purge Cache button. This deletes all HQ preview and thumbnail jpegs stored in the cache folder, which will have to be rebuilt again (if you use HQ previews) over time.

  • ADobe Bridge CC encounters a cache problem....

it is unable to read the cache. Try purging central cache in Prefs to correct.... done it! doesn't work.  same every time I open it.

I had the same problem. Adobe Tech Support representative remote controlled my iMac 5k and manually deleted the Bridge cache folder (including the sub-folders). This corrected my problem. The rep said that using the Purge Cache option in Bridge's preferences will not solve the problem.

  • Bridge cache problem! HELP!!

Every time  I open Bridge I get an error message "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read Cache. Please try purging central cache to solve solution."  I have gone to the Edit tab, preference option and purged cache, but no luck. Message still pops up and is not allowing me to work on photos.  Please HELP!!

Every time  I open Bridge I get an error message "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read Cache. Please try purging central cache to solve solution."
I am using Adobe Bridge CS6 on Windows 8, with Canon 5D Mark III camera.  This issue has begun about two- three weeks ago.  Now, it has begun to intervene where I can't work on photos.  Bridge works too slow and freezes up and  I can't do anything.
I have tried fixing it by going to the
    Edit tab
    preference option
    and purged cache
(several times). But no luck.  Message still pops up every time I open the program.
Sometimes I get an error message saying Bridge has low memory and I need to restart the program.
Has anyone had this problem or know how or where I can find a solution?  I NEED to work on my photos ASAP! Any help will be greatly appreciated.

When I start the program I instantly see this message:  "Adobe Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache, please try purging the central cache in cache preferences to correct the situation".  I have tried this and it only results in a stalled/locked program.  I have tried restarting my machine multiple times and tried reconfiguring how the cache is managed.  Do you have anyone who could walk me through each step to correct this problem which just started two days ago.  I have owned this program for at least a year now...

I am having trouble with the cache in bridge.  When i open I get a message saying bridge has encountered a problem reading the cache try purging in the central cache to correct the situation.  I did that but now when I try to get to the folders where my photos are stored bridge never gets to where I can work.  The message appears "building criteria" and I get an endless loop on the lower left panel.  How do I correct?

You correct it by leaving Bridge alone until it finishes rebuilding its cache, overnight if necessary.

When opening Bridge (CS6) I get the following message: "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation" I tried and after selecting purge cache it does not allow me to select OK. Also Bridge keeps saying "Building Criteria" with the spinning wheel and nothing happens. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Please help:)

Maybe a Preferences reset can help:
Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Bridge preferences file, including display, Adobe Photo Downloader, performance, and file-handling options.
Restoring preferences returns settings to their defaults and can often correct unusual application behavior.
Press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Option key (Mac OS) while starting Adobe Bridge.
In the Reset Settings dialog box, select one or more of the following options:
      Reset Preferences
Returns preferences to their factory defaults. Some labels and ratings may be lost. Adobe Bridge creates a new preferences file when it starts.
    Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache
Purging the thumbnail cache can help if Adobe Bridge is not displaying thumbnails properly. Adobe Bridge re-creates the thumbnail cache when it starts.
    Reset Standard Workspaces
Returns Adobe predefined workspaces to their factory default configurations.
Click OK, or click Cancel to open Adobe Bridge without resetting preferences.

And did you then actually purge the cache?
Please realize that you have given ZERO details.
