Bridge - "The file cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur"

I am trying to use keywords to organize all my projects.  But on every file I try to apply a keyword too I get the message "The file cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur".  I'm on windows 7 64bit with Creative Cloud and all the latest updates.

Not sure what kind of files you are trying to add keywords, but I am having the same problem with .MTS and m2ts files.  I am running Bridge 4.0.0.529 and Win 8.1.  I found a work around, which was to change the extension to .mpg in File Manager, then you can add keywords.  However, not sure of the implications of doing this when I import them into Premiere.  I noticed in File Manager that under file properties that the "Type of File" changes to reflect the file extension. Running some tests to try and find out.  I suppose one could change the extensions back to the original.  But if you have a lot of clips, that is a big hassle.  Unfortunately, Bridge "Batch Rename" doesn't allow one to change the extension.  Any help would be appreciated.  However, I am not very optimistic in that it appears the "Cloud" version of Bridge has the same issues.

  • [CS3] the file cannot store XMP metadata

    Hello,
I want to add some metadatas like keywords and description to my video files (raw avi and mpg). It works for most of them in bridge but some will not accept any changes. I get the following error message: "xxx.avi cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur." Even so all the video files have been recorded during the same session (no visible differences between the files), some of them work, some do not work.
Do you know a known problem with embemdding XMP into video files? Or if the problem comes from Bridge, how can I do?
Thanks to everyone who could help me.

  • Message: 'FILE CANNOT STORE XMP METADATA'

I have encountered a problem that I cannot resolve by myself and cannot find any relevant information. I hope you can help: In some cases (this has only been happening with my last big job of about 1000 selected images which are divided in subfolders)  in most folders when I try to apply a new keyword in an entire group of photographs I get the message ".. the metadata of some of the selected items cannot be changed. Do you want to continue and apply the changes to some of the selected items only?.." whilst when i select individual files (photographs) I get the message  ".. the file xxxx.CR2 cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur..". This has been happening both before and after the batch rename processing. Also I noticed on my desktop that the RAW files that do not accept keywords are not initially accompanied by an XMP file. I guess that there is a problem with my 'settings' but I cannot located it or resolve it... Can you help please?

    ..a  couple of hours later..
However, if I ReNAME the file which contains the photographs that 'refuse' to have new keywords added to them, IT APPEARS that everything is fixed. After a 'blink' on the screen which resembles with a refresh, I can add the keywords that I desire. Moving the contents of my initial subfolders in one NEW folder does not change the METADATA or the KEYWORD status and so far they are retained when my files are moved to the new folder.
B U T... if I rename the file again (through the Bridge window) and give it its previous name, the problem persists....
-Am I doing something wrong?...since  I am not following a different procedure.. why did problem occur out of the blue?
    -Will the problem occur again?
-will the Raw files retain the details (keywords/metadata) that I have added from now on?.. or is it possible that I will loose them again at some point?
    -why does this happen?

  • "The file xyz.JPG cannot store XMP data" - WHY?

Why am I getting the message -- cannot store XMP data -- for some of my jpegs? When I get this message, I can't add any keywords.

Until a month ago, Bridge stored the my Keywords. Now it will not.
Check your read and write permissions for file, folder and disks, double check the file is not locked.
Otherwise provide more details about versions, system, specs and how much free space is left on your disk.

  • Imported Error -   The file cannot be imported. Unknown error occured (-50)

I have the 30G Ipod. It has been freezing several times. I have reset and master reset several times. I used the updater program and restored the software (several times).
I also reinstalled itunes & ipod software from the cd and updated to the latest version of itunes.
Now I go to itunes, I see my ipod listed and as before I choose to import the file from my music directory which containes all my mp3 files. After choosing file, import, the error msg comes up saying the file cannot be imported. An unknown error occured (-50).

OK I'll do a basic explaination on what were about to do. When you use the "Restore" option in the updater, it does a quick format, basicly tagging everything on the drive inside the ipod saying "You can write over me". This is the same as a "Quick FOrmat" in windows.
Now theres a complete format called a low level or "Deep" format you can do in windows. THis goes thru and writes the whole harddrive in zeros AND maps off bad sectors on the drive or fixes them. this is what you have when the ipod clicks and freezes.
The steps you do are not that long, BUT the actual format can take hours. Some report gettin done in a hour others it takes 5 hours, so make sure you got the time before going ahead. You can do the steps before bedtime and let it format while you sleep. Make sure the PC is not set to goto sleep or shut off, if on a laptop leave it opened and plugged to its AC adaptor.
WITHOUT the ipod connected to the PC, hit ctrlaltdel keys to open the task manager. Select the "Process" tab, look for "iPodservice.exe". Highlight it and hit "End Process".
Now connect the iPod, it should flash the "Do not disconnect" sign and you will see it in windows under "My Computer". Rightclick the ipod in "My Computer" and hit format. UNCHECK quick format and hit start. Now this is the long part, you can stop the process half way thru, but I usually recommend to people to let it completely format to make sure it gets any bad sectors. Again its a long process so just be calm.
Once its done, reboot the PC so the "iPod service" is started again. When windows is back up YOU MUST run the ipod updater and restore it so the ipod is formatted into the format it needs. Only after this should you let iTunes get ahold of it and start loading it up

    Hi pholewinski!
I have a couple of articles for you here that I believe will help you with this issue. The first is an article on advanced troubleshooting, and it can be found here:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3297
If following that article's steps doesn't take care of the issue, you can try the things listed in this article, which is about permissions issues in iTunes:

  • After editing file in ACR 8.6 (Mac) , the file (NEF and XMP) modification dates are not updated

With both my Mac's, reset Photoshop C  (2014) to previous version 2014.0. Now find that after editing file in ACR 8.6 (Mac) , the file (NEF and XMP) modification dates are not updated. Reloaded camera raw, etc., but still find modification dates are not updated, either using Finder or using Bridge to view dates. Editing other files, PSD, DNG, TIFF, etc., are updated and the information is correctly displayed.

Ok, not entirely sure what I did but it's now working (Bizarre!). The only thing I did was 'eject' the ACR 8.6 .dmg file from the finder side bar and restart PS CC, so that may have been where I was going wrong all along!
However, I now have another issue in that there is no preview of the shot in Finder on my iMac when I highlight the NEF file. I assume this is simply because Apple haven't yet released an update for the new D810 NEF files and so the computer doesn't know what it's looking at?!?
If anyone has any other ideas though, then I'm more than willing to listen.
    Thanks again.

  • I can no longer access a password protected Numbers file with the correct password. Error message only says the file "cannot be opened."

    I'm using Numbers version 3.2.2.
Suddenly I cannot access my password protected Numbers file with the correct password. I have the correct password written down so I know I haven't made a mistake.
The response box that pops up says that the file cannot be opened. There are no other options for me to choose from.

Also, I tried to open it through an older version of Numbers but it sent this error message.

I can see a support item listed on my phone when I try to search the Help files, but when I click on that item, it gives me an error message, "Cannot oepn Help.  The file cannot be found."
I am trying to block telemarketer calls, and it looks like there is a way to do it.  Two help references come up - "Setting Options for rejecting calls" and "Blocking Calls."  I just can't access them.

Setting options for rejecting a call  By default, when you reject an incoming
call, the caller is sent to voicemail. You can
change this setting so that, in addition to
sending the caller to voicemail, a text
    message opens. This message contains
default text and is addressed to the caller
so that you can send the message right
away. You can also change the default text
    of the message.
1 Press Start and select Settings.2 On the Personal tab, select Phone .3 Select the Advanced tab.4 To turn on the text message feature, check the Reject call with text
    message box.
5 (Optional) To change the content of the message, select the text in the box and
enter the text you want.6 Press OK .

After trying and trying I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet ". What the **** itunes? Nothing is working!!
I wanted to update my iTunes so I could sync my phone to my computer and update my phones software so I can use the latest apps that need a 4.2 or higher.
This is not fun for me so if anyone knows what I can do to fix this please help. Is it possible to download the "cabinent file" with the lastest iTunes?
    Thank you.

My phone is the iPhone4 and my computer is a Windows Vista

I doubt that corrupt files are the problem. It is more likely a space or permissions issue. Is the hard-drive on which iTunes is stored close to capacity? Do you (or the particular user profile you have logged on with) have the requisite permissions to save to that drive?
Otherwise, do you get an error code? This might point us in the right direction.

I am trying to delete an XLS file from a network drive and am getting a message that says the file cannot be deleted because it is in use.  I can't see where it is in use and have tried to reboot the computer to no avail.  I can delete other files but several XLS files are giving me this message.

You said it was a network drive.  So is someone else on the network using that same file or may have have left with excel still accessing it on their system?

  • Hi, I cant open a document I have been working on. It has previously been saved without a problem now all I get is a box stating that the file cannot be opened. Any suggestions please?

Hi, I reecntly purchased a Mac and the Pages App. But now I find that I cant open a document I have been working on. It has previously been saved without a problem now all I get is a box stating that the file cannot be opened. It is visible in both the Pages Windows and under Recent Items but just will not open. Any suggestions please?

    Hi Colourdoodles,
Maybe the document is corrupted. Can you open other Pages documents? Preview may open it. Right click (or control click) on the document in Finder and Open With > Preview.
If that works, Edit > Select All, Edit > Copy. Then paste into a blank Pages document. Formatting may be messed up, but you will have editable text. Then Save (with a different name), close and see if you can open the new document.

  • Message'there was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found'

Using xp home and when I click to download the pdf file, it will give 3 options been 'open'/'save'/?. When I choose the 'open' option, it will give me the above message "there was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found"
owever if I choose to "save" and I will be able to open the file and read it. In this pc its using Adobe Reader 8.1.2 with a patch. It was working fine prior to this sudden occurance of the error.
Strangely I have another pc with the same specification, I was able to choose "open" and be able to read the file. Can anyone help to resolve the issue by using the "open' option instead of "save, then open". Greateful for your prompt response.

Fyi, in addition to my earlier post, the other pc is using Adobe 8.1.1 and no other patch. I was trying to find 8.1.1 version but could not find a trust worthy site to load from. Do you think the error caused by using the 8.1.2 version? Thanks
