Bridge thumbnails

I have hundreds (if not thousands) of images stored which I need to browse regularly for their use. Most are high res. in various formats RAW, jpeg, PS files etc.
Until last week (and for the last three or four years) this has been fine.
Then the thumbnails began to sort of disappear (though they were still there, hidden) as they were scrolled through.
Now Bridge crashes out when asked to do certain things.
I've tried purging cache, askingto view thumbnails in different sizes etc (in preferences) but no good. Any ideas?

fiddling around until by accident I push something which
sorts the problem out.
That's how we all have learned..

  • Bridge thumbnail poorly displays PS text layer

In Bridge, even with High Quality thumbnails preview set, Photoshop Text Layers (non rasterized) preview horribly.
I would like to use the Bridge thumbnail (in a large Preview Panel) as a slide for a PS presentation; and would prefer not to open the PS file for every text slide. The PS images without text are fine.
In order to make changes to the text, I would prefer not to rasterize the text layers, but will if necessary just prior to presentation.
Is there a setting that I might have missed with the font? Specific size? Type? I tried purging the cache for the folder. Or, a Bridge Pref? These files are .psd, and look fine when opened in PS.
I just tried rasterizing, the text layers, and they still look bad. Even flattening the layers give no improvement. What am I missing?
    Thanks,

    Hi Omke, thanks for helping.
I just noticed something very interesting. The Preview quality is perfect if I drag the Preview pane to one size. I had it maximum so as to project larger. As a matter, of fact, there is only one size for the pane. If I drag it slightly larger or smaller, the text breaks down!!!
But my large PS images render fine previews at all pane sizes.
    Does this help?
I will reset the Bridge prefs. I am putting off 10.5.5 until I finish this presentation. If I can get Bridge to render text "slides", then I will do the whole presentation in Bridge Preview, and open images in PS when necessary. That avoids switching to Powerpoint or Keynote. I did this last year, and don't remember any problems using Bridge Preview.
I have a Mac Pro. The setting in Bridge is for Software Rendering, unchecked.

Are these the symbols your talking about in mimi bridge?

  • CS6 Mini Bridge - Thumbnail size and preview

I've just upgraded to CS6 (design & web premium) and was setting up my workspace in InDesign, and after adding (docking) Mini Bridge there seems to be no preview or anyway to change the size of the thumbnails I can view.
I use Mini Bridge a lot as we have folders that include 100+ assets in, and it's good to see a small thumbnail to quick scan, then to click on it to see more detail.  Now all I can see is a maximum of 6 thumbnails, which means I will need to scroll a lot to find anything.
I've read the following topic from the PS CS6 Beta forum (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4286375#4286375#4286375), and was wondering if this "as designed" thinking has been rolled over to  InDesign, meaning that in order to  change the thumbnail size (with no preview), I have to have Mini Bridge undocked and if I want to see more detail, I have to enlarge the thumbnail, then reduce again to carry on searching?
If so, it seems like a massive oversight, as InDesign is a layout tool and having easy access to multiple documents to include (and to see what they are) is vital, which isn't helped by the seemingly arcane way to access folders.
Hopefully this is me just being a bit dim and missing something obvious, otherwise it's going to cause a lot of hassle in my day to day work.
If anyone has a definitive answer, that would be great.
    Cheers.
    Craig Hurford

Adobe needs to realize that if "as designed" results in users thinking it's a bug or otherwise not useful — then it's a bad design choice and should be revised. They need to leave options in place for people that don't agree with some of their "new" aka bad ideas.
Assuming users don't want to use Mini Bridge vertically is just ridiculous — especially since you can't dock it to the bottom in InDesign like you can in Photoshop.
And not showing folders in the thumbnail view is most unintuative thing to do here. If it's a Mini Bridge, why doesn't it behave like bridge and at least have a check box for filtering out folders or something.
Mini Bridge is kind of useless now.

  • BRIDGE THUMBNAILS in Photoshop CS3

I have the Photoshop CS3 and I can´t see the thumbnails pictures on the Bridge I can only see the NEF folders with all the metadata information, but no images at all. What can I do?
    This is my computer:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz

Do you have quick thumbnails checked or high quality? I use quick.
Using your description (see only folders and metadata), and looking at my screen in Details here is what I see.
When I click on Details I see a single column of thumbnails with metadata on the right side. In your current situation do you get any thumbnails? If I have the folder tree displayed I get just the icons, title, and date created and date modified.
Could it be you are just looking at the directory tree rather than the folder with pictures in it?
If nothing seems to work I would suggest you reset preferences by holding down Ctrl when starting Bridge. You will get a reset window. Choose all 3 options.

  • Bridge - thumbnails do not update

I am running Bridge 2.1.1.9 on an iMac G5, OSX 10.4.11. When I modify an image file in Adobe Camera Raw (opened from within Bridge), the thumbnails in Bridge do not reflect the change. For example, if I crop an image and adjust the tonal values, the changes are not reflected in the thumbnails after I close ACR. I have purged the cache and also exported the cache but neither has helped.
    Mark Weidman

As far as my testing, I found 2 factors are affecting:
1)'Quick Thumbnail' or 'High Quality Thumbnail'?
2)Click 'Done' or 'Save Image' button after editing in ACR?
Here are my repro steps, as far as my testing, it can 100% reproduce :
1.Reset(3 keys)/launch Bridge(CS3) and browse ACR file, like .CRW, .NEF, .dng, and etc.
Now all default settings in Bridge window, thumbnail is in 'Convert To High Quality When Previewed'. All ACR files are displayed in 'Quick Thumbnail' in Content panel.
    2.Select an ACR file,
note once you select on this file in Content panel, it will switch to High Quality.
3.Open this file in ACR(via right-clicking contextual menu 'Open in Camera Raw')
4.Do some edit on this file in ACR, like Crop
    Result:
1.If click 'Done', then check this file in Bridge : The file is selected in Bridge, and it can show changes in High Quality; but when purge cache, it shows as original state in Quick Thumbnail.
2.If click 'Save image' and saved as a new file1 : This file1 can show the change no matter High Quality or Quick Thumbnail.

  • CS5 Bridge thumbnail previews suddenly stopped working

My Bridge very suddenly stopped displaying thumbnail previews - it only displays the default file type icon.
I have spent a lot of time googling this and have tried the following:
    Clearing the cache
Updating Bridge and assorted Abode Products
    Resetting Bridge to factory settings
Nothing has made any difference. I need the thumbnail previews for Bridge to be useful to me. Any help is highly appreciated.
I'm running CS5 on OSX Mavericks (10.9.1). Thanks!

Every file type (DNG, JPG, CR2, etc) except for PSD, but PSD looks distorted. It's all images, old and new, including ones I could preview perfectly before whatever happened happened. Thanks for responding!
Edit: Okay, so I did more digging and for some reason it shows TIF files, but nothing else.
Also, I am trying to view our photo library over our network, none of these files are on my local HD.

  • No change in Bridge thumbnail preview after Camera Raw adjustment

Thumbnail previews in Bridge CS4 do not reflect changes after adjustments are made in Camera Raw.
It used to be fine and now nothing changes after clicking done in Camera Raw.

First go to the menu tools / cache and choose purge cache for folder. If
this does not work restart Bridge holding down option and choose refresh
preferences. After this reset preferences again to your wishes and try

  • CS3 Bridge Thumbnail Generation

When I start Bridge and go to an existing folder, the thumbnails (previously cropped and adjusted) are re-generated (updating percentage shown at bottom left on status line).  Shouldn't Bridge use the thumbnails from the last time this folder was viewed and not have to re-generate them each time?  Under Edit/Preferences/Thumbnails/When Creating Thumbnails Generate=High Quality Thumbnails.  Does my Bridge cache size need to be increased?
    Tim

If  you use HQ thumbnails, and especially with 100% previews, if can take a lot of space.  If space is limited the older thumbs are overwritten, so they have to be regenerated.  I assume that this means they are no longer indexed and that would also affect the search function.
I would recommend you compact the cache regularly to get rid of orphan files.  This can free up lots of space if you have not done it for awhile.
I have my cache on a partition of 40 gigs and I have about 19 gigs free. And yet when I visit a folder I have not seen for awhile it has to regenerate the thumbs, and I use quick thumbs.  So I  don't know how long the thumbs stay before being overwitten, or why they are being overwritten.

  • Mini bridge thumbnails-cs6

Is there a way to change the size of the thumbnails in mini bridge without resizing the panel?

    Very cool! Thanks!!
Deke McClelland does mention in the CS6 videos that in the docked position, the thumbnail size is adjustable by dragging  the Mini Bridge frame.
I guess that's how the docked Mini Bridge is supposed  to work.

  • Have to deinstall/reinstall: how do I save and restore Bridge thumbnails and metadata?

My hard drive is failing. I am having it replaced. I will then be installing Windows 7 and applications including CS5.5. In addition to the thumbnails, I have a lot of metadata, keywords, collections, and stacks etc. in Bridge and I hope I do not have to lose it all and start from scratch. I had been using a disk image backup system which would have allowed me to restore the entire contents of the drive bit for bit, but the backups started to fail when the hard drive began to fail. So I have to back up or copy specific folders. Does anyone know how I should go about this?

Metadata and keywords are stored in the files themselves.
    Don't know about Stacks.
Collections, keyword lists and workspaces are stored in c:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge version\

  • Bridge Thumbnails Appear Without Their Names

I am wondering why my thumbnails in bridge appear without any file name below them. I've tried everything I can in the preferences to show the thumbnail names but I cannot figure it out. When one of the thumbnails is selected, the larger preview is shown with it's file name, just not any of the thumbnails. This is effecting my workflow please help!!
How can I make the thumbnails appear with their file names listed???

    What OS? What
    exact
version of Bridge? Have you already purged the cache for each offending folder trough the Tools Menu in Bridge? (

  • PDF Security and Bridge Thumbnails

So here is what I am experiencing with Bridge CS5 and Acrobat 9.
I save a PDF with page thumnails. The thumbnail previews in the Bridge display fine. Once I apply password security settings and save the file Bridge no longer displays a thumbnail for that given PDF and just displays the generic PDF icon.
Why? Is there any settings I have to be aware of in order to have password protected PDFs that display thumnail previews in the Bridge?
NOTE: I have applied all updates currently available to CS5 and Acrobat Pro 9.

Why would thumbnails be dependent on the hability to copy text/images? That makes no sense to me: if one wants to cheat and copy the images with screen shots then they don't need thumbnails, they can use the full reader window. That said, attached is the settings of another secured PDF I have here. This one shows thumbnail previews in the Bridge - and also in Windows Explorer. Notice that the "Enable copying of text, images, and other content" is still not allowed. In fact both PDFs use the same security settings. So I guess we must be looking for another reason... could it be related to how the document is converted or optmized?
Both documents were created using InDesign. I often use the same pre-defined conversion profile  and both of them have embedded thumbnails that display properly in both Bridge and Windows Explorer before security settings are applied.
    Now I am really confused!

  • Bridge thumbnails not updating

I am using Bridge CS6 and at some point recently my thumbnails (using "filmstrip" mode) stopped updating after I had altered my RAW images.  I've tried to find something in the menus/Preferences that would cause this to happen but have had no success.  My only thought is that I recently "updated" due a Creative Cloud prompt and possibly that is when they issue started.  Has anyone else had or seen this and can anyone help me get back to where my thumbnails are updating? Thanks very much for any insight you can provide.

Where can I check my "thumbnail option"?  I've looked in Preferences and elswhere
It is a setting you can change under the little checker icons top right in Bridge Window. Left one sets quality to Prefer Embedded, right one let's you choose more options. For best practice set it to Always HQ.

  • Bridge thumbnails & preview no longer indicates the edit.

For images shot and edited yesterday and today, both the thumbnail image in the Content Pane and the Preview image no longer show any indication of the edit. The Preview thumbnail does, however, show the edit symbol in the upper right hand corner. This happens only to XMP files, and only those shot and edited yesterday and today. All previous files, even when edited today, respond normally. All files saved as DNG, whether shot or edited today or not, also appear normal (thumbnails and preview showing the edit).
I've gone to Bridge Preeferences and Purged Cache. I have "Automatically export cache to folders…" checked. The problem is only with those XMP files shot and edited yesterday or today.
I use with a Fuji X-E1 and a Panasonic G-1, am using Photoshop CS6, a MacPro on 10.6.8., and editing on RAW 7.4.0.137.

Instead of going to the global Purge Cache command in Bridge Preferences, try purging the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu > Cache > Purge Cache for Folder "xxxx".
That global purge command in preferences has given me grief since the earliest versions of Bridge, in that the Cache does not rebuild properly after using it,

  • Bridge Thumbnail Metadata doesn't show dates consistently

I tried changing my Thumbnail preferences in Bridge to add Additional Lines of Thumbnail Metadata.
    I checked show Date Modified.
However, not all pictures were giving the same data.
I.e. some show Jan 13 and others 1-1-2013.
How can I change this so it's just Jan 13 or 1-1-2013 and not both?

When you set up the download you can specify what style of date you want.  Not sure how you change once in system.
