Bridge to PSE8 Question

I think that I am missing something really obvious here. I edited an old JPEG in ACR (Bridge version) & saved it. I then opened the image in PSE8. However, none of the edits that I did in ACR were transferred to PSE8. In other words, the image that opens in PSE8 appears to be the unedited JPEG.
Maybe this is relevant: I retrieved the original old JPEG from the iPhoto library using Bridge. However, when I use Bridge to retrieve an image from my home directory folder, I don't have the above problem. Is this a problem with retrieving images from iPhoto?

A rather short perhaps simple answer is this; were you to edit with PSE, then use the "Save as" command, you would be prompted to "Save in a Version Set". If you choose "yes", then PSE basically imports the image and displays it on top of the original.
When you work outside of PSE itself, it doesn't know of the image's existence, it's not imported into the organizer, hence the results you've observed. The exception to this would be if the folder you save your photo in is a "watch folder", PSE would then make you aware of the photo and prompt you to import it. However, it wouldn't be saved as a version set, but rather it would (I think) be shown as its own import "batch".
Whenever you work outside the organizer (with another imaging program, Windows, or even PSCS), PSE is oblivious to any new photos. You would actually have to either import such a photo, or open it directly with the PSE Editor to force PSE to deal with it directly.
The minimal exception here is if you install PSCS over top of an already existing PSE installation. When installed thus, PSCS automatically ingratiates itself into PSE via the editing options pallette. Now, you still have to open from the PSE Organizer, then save to the PSE Organizer to to achieve the results you're looking for. The only difference is you now have the option of the PSCS or PSE Editors, depending on your mood or necessity.
These are the results of my own installation of PSE-7 and PSCS-4. As always my disclaimer, "your results may vary".

PSE8 question: PSE opens my files but Bridge does not

I downloaded an update to PSE8 that allows PSE to read the files from my Sony Alpha A550. PSE is happy with the A550 but Bridge can only import the files, cannot read them. It shows a generic thumbnail for them and will not open Camera Raw. What can be done?

Good idea. Bridge will import the Sony A550 photos but not convert them to dng. But PSE8 saves the day by converting them and then Bridge will accept the conversions and display the thumbnails and open in Camera Raw. Cool.
I still have to figure out what happens to images from my Sigma SD14. Yes, I know, too many cameras. Bridge will accept the photos directly but the images have problems like terminal overexposure and banding, that were not apparent in the histograms.

I would like to change my mac OS for at least 10.8 or mavericks or even with yosemite which is coming soon
can you tell me if there is compatibility with mY bridge CS4 and PSE8
I don't afraid to change for a new PSE like the 12 because i dob't want to use the organizer all my tags and classification is with bridge and i don't want to do a new classification, too much photos!

je ne suis pas opposé à faire évoluer mon PSE mais je souhaite conserver l'utilisation de bridge CS4 pour mon classements et mots clés car je ne veux pas tout refaire ! qui pourrait m'aider et me conseiller ?

Pse 8 and Bridge cs4 seems to work okay here on mac os x 10.9.4 mavericks.
The only trouble i've had is with the output module in bridge cs4, which has crashed on occasion.

Routed or bridged mode + licensing question

Hi Cisco ACE gurus,
I have the following questions and I would be grateful if anyone could answer them.
1) As we know the basic license for ACE limits its throughput to 4Gbps. What does it mean? Does it mean that only load balanced traffic is limited (policed) to 4Gbps? Or any other traffic passing through ACE is limited to 4Gbps (from what I know ACE is a cef720 linecard having 20Gbps to a switch fabric)?
My question comes from the following scenario. Let's say ACE is deployed in routed mode and it has 1 client vlan and 2 server vlans. There are VIPs, serverfarms, rservers defined etc.... Now there is a need for a rserver from vlan1 to communicate with a rserver from vlan2 (directly and not through a VIP). In this scenario def gateway of both servers points to ACE (ACE is doing inter-vlan routing).
So in this case in order to allow for that communication I would need to create ACLs and apply them to ACE interfaces.
Does it mean that the traffic would be limited to only 4Gbps?
2) let's say I have 2 DC (2 different geo locations). ACE is located only in one of them. Real servers are dispersed in both of them. ACE is deployed in routed mode. Is it possible to configure ACE in such a scenario (to server VIPs for clients when rservers are in 2 different DC)?
My assumption is that it is possible and in order to do that I would have to use NAT (and source NAT client traffic) so that traffic sent from client to a VIP could be src natted and go to the other DC (through client vlan), reach the rsevers in the other DC and come back.
Is it possible to also do that while ACE is deployed in bridged mode?
While reading about ACE and NAT I came across the sentence "ACE is not able to NAT bridged traffic". What does it mean?

sorry Marko but I am lost. We are talking now about one-armed mode of deployment. There
are 2 contexts and the same vlan is used in both of them (that's why it is shared). In this case I don' understand what you wrote "you have server A in the shared VLAN of context A, you can not reach a VIP from context B" ... that is the same vlan so I can't see any problems..... unless you are describing situation for bridged mode deployment of ACE.

ARC-to-PSE8 Question

I've been away from PSE8 for too long. After I edit an image in Adobe Raw Coverter (hosted by Bridge) & save it in a format of my choice, how do I send that image to PSE from Bridge?

Adobe Bridge CS6 display question

I am a landscape photographer. Many times I shoot multiple exposures of the same scene to combine them later in HDR. These are generally 3 or 5 exposures taken at the same time. It would be very useful to see each set of multiple exposures on a separate line in Adobe Bridge so I can quickly choose which set to use for processing in HDR. Does anybody know how to do that? I could not see it in the View options in the menu bar of Bridge. I am using Adobe Bridge CS6 (5.0.1.21) on MAC OSX 10.6.8. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

You can't do so in Bridge when having different amounts of series. If you shot always 5 you could drag the content window to a new size in combination with changing the thumbnail size so 5 thumbs would show in a row. The same with 3 but there is no way to have a content window showing 1 line with 3 and 1 line with 5 files in the same panel.
In filmstrip mode you have 1 single line but that does not meet you wishes also.
There is the option to auto stack for HDR or Photomerge (Stacks / Auto stack Panorama-HDR) but frankly spoken this sucks because it either does not do the job properly or simply crashes Bridge to my experience.

Adobe Bridge/Camera RAW Question

Hello. Can anyone tell me what the little gray circle icon with the two arrows in it is? This icon appears on RAW image thumbnails after opening a RAW file in Camera RAW via Adobe Bridge. When you mouseover it says nothing, when you click on it it does nothing. I am assuming its an indicator that the RAW file was opened but aside from that i can't figure out what it represents. Can anyone give some insight on this? Also, after opening and editing a RAW file how come the changes appear in the Bridge preview? Is there a way to return the preview image to its original state? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That is the Adobe character that says the original file has been edited. I forget what the character is called, but it is referenced in the Lightroom help file I believe.
You can delete the edits by clicking on edit/develop settings/clear settings.

CS5 Bridge Photo Downloader Question

Hello-
Whenever I download NEF files from my Nikon D300 I get two files per image eg. DSC1901.NEF and DSC1901.xmp
I don't understand the purpose of the .xmp file, I've never had this happen using the Nikon software.
If I trash the .xmp I see no change in any processing I do to the original file. This seems to be bothersome to me, can I stop CS5 Photo Downloader from importing the .xmp files? It's a huge amount of extra files to save when I don't access these .xmp's & cumbersome selecting through hundreds of newly downloaded files selecting the NEF's from the .xmp's. How do I stop these .xmp's from showing up in my downloaded NEF folders??? Thanks...

Photos not opening in PS when opened from Bridge. [was:Question]

Photo's not opening in PS when opened from bridge, this has been happening for the last few weeks. I will be working in PS and opening from bridge OK, then suddenly I will open about 6 photo's but they only show the tabs at the top of the screen but no photos. I have to close PS and reopen before they show. Can anyone help it is driving me crazy. Tks

Left side bridge panels configuration question

The left side of bridge has panels, and one shows at a time, but it shows all the way top to bottom.
That's more than I need, and I would like to have 2 panels open there, one above the other, each using 1/2 the length.
How to do please?

You can move the panels around. Switch sides. I have just the Preview panel on the left, covering the entire main monitor, then the others on the second monitor. It works like a puzzle where you move little plastic squares inside of a larger square with one missing (can't think of the name for this type of common puzzle). Just experiment.

CS6 Bridge "Auto-Stack" question

As a landscape photographer I shoot multiple exposures of the same image for use in HDR. I recently used the Auto-Stack feature under Stacks in Bridge. It did not work well, it grouped the images incorrectly. Now I want to undo this and go back to the basic panel where all the images are shown in sequence. How do I do this? I have tried to purge this file, restarted Bridge but always shows it with stacks. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Don't have Bridge active for the moment but in the same menu as you found autostacks there is an option to unstack all from groups. You probably have to select all files first. After unstack all you can use the sort filter date created to getbthem again in the right order.

Reinstalling PSE8 over PSE8 Questions

my PSE8 will not open (crash report upon organizer first screen). Can I merely reinstall over PSE8? I'm most concerned with my several thousand files and esp. the associated tags. So far as I can recollect, I've used the program recently, and have not installed any new programs.
I tried to have the program reset the preferences, but it doesn't get that far. It ignores the pse.old file but doesn't create a new.prf file.

Try deleting/renaming the following folders:-
1) Elements Organizer
2) Online Services
These folder are present at C:\Users\<current user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe on Win7/Vista machines.
Also check for the write permission as you are saying that new file is not created on launching the organizer. Otherwise run PSE as administrator and then see if the application runs fine.

Bridge CC ext question

Is the file ext. for Adobe bridge CC version CSS ?

Is there a work around?
Don't know of any other then use the back up files to retrieve raw data or extract the jpeg previews from the NEF files. Be aware this is not the same file size as a Raw file but if you don't need it for large size print or publishing it will get you somewhere I believe.
As a Canon user I have no experience with Nikon nor did I need to extract jpeg previews but according to Google their are dedicated software options for this workflow.

Although they also talk about the option for this in Bridge CS4 I can't find it in CS6 nor have I heard of it before.
And if your back up has the correct files it might also be wise to check all content on the problem disk and when sure to have back up or it can be deleted check the disk for errors. maybe even reformat and start again or use a new disk.

Sandy Bridge-E potential question

I am looking at a motherboard and CPU upgrade. How much more peformance do you expect from the Sandy Bridge-E series as compared to the i7-2600k? It looks as though the 4-core i7-3820 ($294) has limited overclock. However the 6-core i7-3930K ($583ish) is unlocked. Thoughts?
My system is working ok now, but I want more speed as I am beginning to work with 1080p 3D material. My current system is i7-860, evga p55 micro, 8gb, gtx 460. It performed relatively poorly on the ppbm.

Aren't those Sandy Bridge-E chips unobtanium until sometime in late November or are they available now? I didn't think Intel had them ready for release until later this year. Can you wait that long before you rebuild?

Do I want a wireless bridge? Terminology question

Hi I'm not entirely sure of the correct term so here goes. I have wireless internet access and I would like to access it and share it via the airport wirelessly.
At the moment the airport is connected via the ethernet cable but I would like to change the location of the airport as it has my printer and hhd's attached and it's getting a little cluttered beside the phone table!
So do I need to follow the instructions to set up a wireless bridge?

To create a wireless bridge with the AirPorts you would configure them in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). In a WDS, you would typically have one base station connected to the Internet (this would be the main station) and another connected wirelessly to extend it (this would be the remote station). What are the models of AirPorts that you will be using for this? If both are the newer 802.11n version, will all the wireless clients be "n" capable as well?
