Bridge window placement?

Is there any way you can reassign the placement of the Bridge window? It's always on top of everything else, which would be fine if it would just stay in a corner where I put it. But nooooo. It always has to go back to the same place. I've looked in preferences but didn't see anything. What am I missing?
thanks!

You have probably switched to compact mode and for that staying on top of
other applications is as per design (I admit, not a very good design...).
You should go out of compact mode using the icon top right  in the Bridge
window or the menu view.
If you do have the need for such an option you should seriously look at Mini
Bridge in CS5. Just do a search for Mini Bridge panel  in google and find
out for your self.

  • Formating the Mobile Me gallery window place holder

Is there a way to format the Mobile Me gallery window place holders? Specifically, remove the white title bar at the bottom of the window when they appear in the published site?
I would like to ad these galleries but I don't want the title at the bottom to show up. I don't want to use the album style picture placeholders because I want to be able to email the pics.

Is it the tell a friend email link that you're referring to? Can you click on the gallery link in iPhoto and get to it online? The link will contain numbers as the folder for the gallery is identified by a 6 digit number.
If it's the link in the email that gets created by the tell a friend that you're referring to you might post in the Mail forum also.
All I can think to do is go to iPhoto/Gallery preference pane and stop publishing. Then republish and see if you can get the email link to work.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Window placement

I wonder if I am missing something. Pages always opens documents based on templates 1/3 inch from the left edge of the screen. It never remembers the window placement on templates. Is there a method for changing this? I want my default documents to open in a specific position. If not, will this be fixed in the future? Nisus, Mellel, Mariner Write all do this well. I would prefer not to have to take an extra step before working on a new document in pages.

    Matthew,
Welcome to Apple Discussions. The phenominon you describe is a bug, and you should use the feedback link at the top of the page to tell Apple that fixing it is important to you. You ask if it'll be fixed in the future: we can't possibly know that since Apple is particularly tight-lipped about updates. But if enough people bring it to their attention, they will likely make fixing the problem you cite a priority.

  • Bridge window/meta data text size

Is there a way to increase the text size in the Bridge window and panels? I especially want to increase the size of the metadata text. Thanks.

Not in CS4, which is the last version I decided to buy.  That bug must, therefore, have been introduced in CS5.
    <rant>
Just about every single time I drop by this forum and/or the Photoshop Macintosh forum, I read something that reassures me as to my decision to stop buying Adobe products.
Of course, I'll keep on using the ones for which I already own a license.  But Adobe is far, far from being the corporation it was when I became a customer, right when Adobe started, over a quarter of a century ago.
As I typed many, many moons ago (August, 2009):
Adobe is now a decaying, elephantine, unresponsive, gargantuan and disorganized bureaucracy that is slowly but inexorably crumbling. That decay affects software development as well, not just customer service.
It's not just the forums going to pot, it's the entire gamut of customer service, tech support and it's reflecting in the applications too.
That decay began becoming painfully obvious during the Bruce Chizen era shortly after the Macromedia merger… …which probably coincided with the idiotic concept of the "Creative Suites" that forces the premature release of applications.

  • Switch over opened Bridge windows

In all past versions off Bridge (in Mac), I can switch over opened Bridge windows by pressing command + ` (or ~). This functionality aparently is gone in CS6. What happened? Is there another shortcut for this now?

    Curt Y wrote:
The mac command to switch to open window is command - shift - tilde.  Is this what you are looking for?
I can confirm that works, Curt!
    Leo,
I can confirm Curt is right.  I just tried it in Bridge CS6 on my Mac running under snow Leopard 10.6.8:
Command+Shift+Tilde does work to switch to another open window!
Note that, on the Mac version, both [Control+SHIFT+~ ] and [Command+SHIFT+~ ] in Photoshop work exactly the same to cycle through open windows of the application.

  • Change "Test Window" placement in Flash CC?

    Hi.
I have a problem with the placement of the Test/preview/export windows placement in Flash CC on my dual-screen setup.
When pressing CMD+Enter, the test window pops up at the edge between my laptop screen and my external display. Every time i have to drag the window into my external display in order to preview it properly. In Flash CS6, i would move the test window once and the next time i exported out the test window would wind up in the same position as it did earlier.
Please fix this ASAP, its very annoying

    Hi Dharmendra.
Thank you for taking your time to reply this thread.
I havent even considdered the possibility of this being affected by the flash project itself, i thought it was some kind of error in the UI. But when you asked about my settings and classes, i started looking around for clues.
And i - sort of - found a solution. At least a half one, but that is more than okay for now.
The bug seems to revolve around the use of traces. We use quite a number of trace calls in our projects, and it seems that when i ignore these by enabling the "omit trace statements" option in the Publish settings, the issue goes away and the flash test windows position is being correctly saved again. Disabling "omit trace statements" will force the test window back to its original default position.
I hope this info is enough for you to go on working on this bug, but if it isnt, i will be happy to assist you with a test-project for you to troubleshoot on.
    Kind regards

  • Compiz and weird window placement

I just installed Arch and KDE.  It all works fine except for compiz, which works, but any window opened goes to the top left hand corner and the title bar is hidden so I can't even move it.

Start the CompizConfigSettingsManager (ccsm) and check if the window decorator plugin is enabled if you have no window boarders.
There is another plugin for windows placement (don't know how its called because my settings manager is in german).
Maybe you have to active a lot of other plugins before compiz works how you like it.

  • PekWM window placement / moving

I just started using PekWM and really like it, but I'm having trouble with two points.
    1) Is there a way to set window placement to be random? By default it's set to "CenteredOnParent Smart MouseNotUnder", and it doesn't seem to center on anything, and it certainly doesn't seem very smart.
    2) When I drag a window to another workspace, I go FLYING all the way to the last workspace in the column or row. Is there a way to make dragging windows between workspaces a little less hyperactive?

When I open a preview in Bridge CS6 in Win7x64 using the spacebar, it appears that nothing has happened.  However the preview has opened behind the main Bridge window, so I have to move the main window to see it.  After that, it seems to then work normally.

  • [SOLVED] XFCE - Incorrect windows placement

    Hi,
I'm currently having a issue with XFCE's window placement. In the settings panel, under Window Manager Tweaks > Placement, window placement is set to Center for all windows, but this option has no effect. I tried changing it to place windows under the mouse, but it also has no effect on the windows placement. Windows keep opening on the screen corners.
I checked the forums for similar problems, and found some results, but none of the solutions worked for me. Also, those are quite old topics.

Shouldn't you actually have it on the maximum value?
I believe the way this works is that the size (or ratio, the option is actually called placement_ratio IIRC and is a ratio of window size vs screen size) you specify here is the minimum to trigger "smart placement." If the window isn't (at least) of that size, then the default (i.e. center or under mouse pointer, as defined below) will be used. So if you want every window to use the default placement, you should set the minimum size for smart placement to be as large as possible. (In fact, I believe with a ratio set to 100 (i.e. slider to the max) it should always use the default placement, regardless of window size, which is want you're after if I'm not wrong.)
If even with the slider to the max you get new windows placed using smart placement, then it sounds like a bug I'd say.
(Also, just as FYI and though you might simply want all windows to be centered, I wasn't happy with xfwm's smart placement myself, you can see this topic for a (IMO) better alternative.)

    And the behaviour is this:
Windows try to get as close to the top left corner as possible without overlapping any other windows. This does sound like what "Smart" policy would refer to, but it is not listening to the <center>yes</center> tag.

I just finished patching Openbox to restore the former random window placement behavior. You can find it here: openbox-git-random-placement
It works but I didn't fully test all scenarios (multi-monitors, different window states, and so on...) so if you find any bugs in my patch or random window placement code please let me know!
Im having trouble discerning what exactly you mean. I could build your version to find out, but the current openbox-git seems to work exactly this way?
I have smart placement and center set. When I open a new window on a blank workspace, its placed centered. If I open another, it will be placed in empty space. It will keep placing in empty space until the desktop is completely hidden, and then it will start randomly placing the window.
I have considered talking to the Openbox devs about possibly implementing the placement algorithm of Fluxbox- Flux will evenly distribute the windows even after the entire screen is filled/covered.
**EDIT** Do you mean your version starts to random place the moment it cant fit the window in empty space without even partially obscuring an existing window?

  • Problem Moving Images Between Folders In Bridge (Windows 7 Professional)

I have just bought a new computer with Windows 7 installed. I now also have Adobe CS5 Design Premium installed.
When I try to MOVE or DRAG and DROP an image from one folder to another using Adobe Bridge I get the following error message:
"The operation cannot be completed because you don't have sufficient permissions"
When I try the same thing in Windows Explorer it tells me that I need Administrator Permission. I click OK and it works in that programme.I am actually the Administrator
Can anybody tell me how I can configure Bridge to undertake this task please.
    Many thanks in anticipation
    Adrian

    Dear friends
To my great relief I have now sorted this issue and offer the following as the Correct Answer. My sincere and grateful thanks go to Curt and Yammer, above, who have helped me so much in sorting this Windows 7 issue which is clearly very relevant to Bridge users also. Any slowness to grasp what they have been saying is down to me!
The key to solving this issue lies is understanding that in terms of Windows 7 Security, every internal or external hard drive, plus folders, sub-folders and files thereon has an OWNER. Also each OWNER has a certain level of PERMISSION to do things such as moving files to a different folder, deleting or re-naming them etc. If you try to do things that you don't currently have Permission to do, that is when you get an ‘Access Denied’ error message. Also your system has an Admistrator or Administrators and at the outset you need to ensure through the Control Panel that you are listed as one of them. .
If, like me, you didn't realise these things, (and why would you if Microsoft or your computer or hard drive suppliers couldn't be bothered to really make sure you knew about them), then trying to fathom the ‘Access Denied’ problem becomes a stressful and frustrating nightmare as I can testify having spent a week at it!
The steps that I took to resolve the issue and which I believe now constitute the 'Correct Answer' are as follows:
First make sure that you have Administrator rights on your system via the Control Panel
Next ‘right click’ on the Drive whose files you want to gain full access to, for example the drive that your pictures are stored on, and click on 'Properties'.
Under the Security tab you will see a list of Groups and Users on this drive and the Permissions that they have to do things.
Before doing anything to edit these Permissions, first click on the Advanced button. This opens another window with a tab showing the Owner of this drive.
Click on the Owner tab and if you are not already listed as the owner, make yourself the owner by selecting your name from the list. I believe it should appear there if you are an admistrator or user. (In my case at this stage the owner was initially shown as an obscure string of numbers and letters which I believe identified the drive when it was connected to the lap top I was using before I upgraded my machine)
Now be sure to check the box that says "Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects" and the click Apply. On completion of this step, the drive in question and all the folders, subfolders and files thereon should now be 'owned' by you. You could check this out by right clicking on a particular folder then clicking Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner. Your name should appear. So far so simples!
Now go back to the Security Tab for your drive (Step 2 / 3 above) and look at the Permissions you currently have. Your aim now is to allow yourself 'Full Control.' If you don’t currently have this level of permission click Edit, select your name on the list, check ‘Full Control’ and 'Apply' the change.
I think I'm right in saying that at this point whilst still working in the Drive directory you are now given the option of ticking boxes which allow you to, in effect, cascade the permission you have just granted yourself to all the files and folders on that drive. Tick the box to allow this and Windows should then take care of the rest.If I'm not quite correct here then in my particular case, for example, all my images were stored on my external drive. The top level, or 'parent' folder in which all my pictures could be found was the 'My Pictures' folder and I had created a number of folders and subfolders ('child ' folders) within that folder. The permissions I gave to the Parent folder – My Pictures – were cascaded down through the Child folders.
On completion of the above step I tested the result in Windows Explorer by dragging a few files back and forth between folders and it now worked perfectly - I was now able to move / delete / rename etc all files without now getting the dreaded access denied message. What a sense of relief! This meant that I could now open Bridge normally rather than having to right click it and 'Run As Admistrator' - albeit that is a very useful thing to do until you get the problem sorted as described.
Somebody said to me the other night that when you buy a car you buy it to enjoy the drive, not to have to tinker with the engine. Microsoft and companies that supply and install Windows 7 on new computers please take note!

  • Colours in Photoshop CS3/Bridge - Windows

After editing images in Photoshop CS3 (using a calibrated Eizo monitor S2231W) and viewing them in Bridge (whether PSD or JPG) in the presentation modus, the colours change a bit and become oversaturated when I change the presentation from "fit in" to 100%(by scrolling the mouse wheel). The same oversaturated colours appear also in other Windows viewers (e.g. Magix, irfanview). Of course I can use a different custom preset on the monitor when viewing the images on the monitor and reduce the saturation there, but the colour change will remain. So how can I see in Photoshop when editing and be sure what the colours will be like in a Windows presentation?
(PS- changing the colour settings in Photoshop did not help)
Thank you for helping! - Jochen

I'm using this image found in the windows sample pictures "Annie in the Sink.jpg"
as an example because it's small. If you use this action on camera size images,
your system can really slow down.
(click on the screenshots below for clearer views)
    1. Run the Vectorize Web Graphic part of the action. (i just left the gaussian blur
       at the default setting)
    2. Use a combination of adjusting the threshold adjustment layer and painting
on the Dodge and Burn layer to get the black areas to cover the part of image
you want. The black areas are the areas that will be included in the paths and
white areas are exclued from the paths.
    3. Paint on the Dodge and Burn layer with the regular paint brush tool, not the dodge
and burn tools. Painting with white removes the areas to be included in the paths
and painting with black adds to the areas included in the paths. Set the default
foreground and background (black and white) colors at the bottom of the toolbox by
pressing the D key on the keyboard.
    4. You might have to stack the Dodge and Burn layers to get the results your after.
    5. Run the Make Path from Image part of the action.
Final path and still kinda rough photoshop result and after copying the
path to a new RGB color document and adding a color fill adjustment layer.
If you have a recent version of illustrator, then you might try the Live Trace instead of this action.
The tracing features in recent versions of illustrator are so much better than when this action was written.
Added: it helps to duplicate your image before running any of the actions so you
have a reference while painting on the dodge and burn layer(s).
