Bridging LAN and Bluetooth

Hi, is it possible to bridge my LAN connection and bluetooth connection on my windows xp pro computer in such a way that i can access my adsl connection from a bluetooth device? Im running a netgear router set up as a dhcp server, and all of my home pcs use it as their default gateway, which works great.
What I'd like to do is set up my new Nokia N70(Fantastic phone) in such a way that it connects to my pc with bluetooth and then uses my router at 192.168.0.1 as an internet gateway, so that i dont have to use 3G or gprs to access the net and download files etc on my phone?
Tx

Hi, yes i found a program to do it, it's called mRouter and you can find a tutorial here http://crazylittleworld.com/2006/03/making-the-most-out-of-nokia-n70-part-2 However it seems to not allow you to connect over a normal GPRS connection when installed (not sure about 3g) There may be a way to do this but i haven't really tried to find one. If you can't find a version for your phone on that site then just google "mRouter". Later

  • Bridging LAN and WLAN

I am trying to get VNC working on my computers, but I need to bridge LAN and WLAN. I do not know how to do this. This is the first networking experience I have. Can someone point me in the right direction? I do not even know where to begin. Thank you in advance.

Just go to your network connections, Highlight the two networks, Right click, and Hit "bridge connections" hope this helps.

  • G400 Wireless LAN and Bluetooth Drivers

    Hi Sir/Ma'am,
    Good Day,
Apologies for such a noob question. Actually, I was planning to reformat my laptop however, I am getting confused as to why there are 2 drivers for wireless lan and as well as bluetooth drivers (based from the Lenov Drivers site)
    For Wireless Driver:
    Theres a: Intel and b: Atheros,Broadcom,Realtek
    For Bluetooth:
    There's a Intel and b Liteon/Atheros, Broadcom
    Please refer to screenshot.
Just want to clarify, do I need to install both of these drivers or just choose 1 (between the Intel and the Atheros/Broadcom).
    Apologies for the noob question.
    God Bless,
    Thanks

  • Magic mouse, trackpad and bluetooth

So I've had my bluetooth trackpad and magic mouse for 6 months on my iMac.
All of a sudden the 'right click' on the mouse doesn't work. Strange. So I talk to a Mac specialist via Express Lane, and we reset the Pram. Everything works fine. Then two days later, the right click stops working. Reset Pram. Everything works fine. I do this another couple times and then decide this isn't the long term solution. I talk to a mac specialist at the apple store and they give me a new Magic mouse. So I Pram reset, and ow, the mouse isn't recognized, yet the trackpad continues to work fine. Help.

Got a new mouse from the Apple Store.  Works fine now.

  • MacBook Air freezes when connected to the Internet. (LAN and WiFi)

    I have a MacBook Air A1304 running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
When it connects to the AirLive Duo router set as Client + AP (bridges the wifi signal from the DSL), it freezes up.
Wifi works fine with the iPad.  I tried the wifi and LAN and I get the same results. I don't even have to be surfing, just being connected to the Internet will freezes the whole MBA after about a minute.
AirLive tested their router with their MacBook for two days but didn't have any problem. I run the latest firmware for the router too.

  • Wifi and bluetooth doesnt work anymore - Help

Earlier today I was able connect my playbook to my home wifi network and blackberry tour through the bridge platform. Now I can no longer get bluetooth enabled on my tablet and it is unable to pick up not only my personal wifi network but others as well.
I have a Linksys router with 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Antenna, my playbook has always been connected to the 2.4Ghz band before. For some reason, it wouldtnt connect to the 5Ghz anyway. It wasnt a concern until tonight..
Since I could not connect to Wifi anymore and couldnt bring bluetooth back on either, I tried multiple restart, hard reset and finally a security wipe, hoping it would bring me back to factory default at least.
Now im back at the initial setup, but I still cant connect to my wifi. The 2.4ghz wifi wont even show in the available network, and even though I can see the 5ghz network, it wont connect.
Connecting the playbook to desktop software at this point doesnt seem to work, it tells "Setup hasnt been completed for the connected Playbook. Disconnect your device and finish the setup" bla bla bla.
Any other way to actually reset that thing ?

My bluetooth was OFF and so was my Wifi.
When I went into Bridge setup on the playbook, it said something like "you have to enable bluetooth to get bridge working" but bluetooth wouldnt come back ON anyway... so I dont know what crashed bluetooth + wifi...
This morning I updated the playbook with Desktop Software, but Im still stuck in setup trying to connect a Wifi. It will shows an available network but when I try to connect it fails and then the network is just not available anymore. Im sitting 2 feet from the router.. cant be because there is a bad signal. The wifi network is also working for anything else trying to connect to it.
I wish there was a way to get pass that setup without a wifi connection.

  • Lan and Wan port on Airport express

Hi guys I am wondering if you could help me out with my airport express.
I recently bought an airport express and have it set up as the following:
Router--->ethernet cable in to the Wan of Airport express--->ethernet from Airport Express Lan to computer
This is so that I have hardwired internet to my gaming computer and wifi in my room for all my devices. The problem is, however, next year I will not be in a situation that allows me the same setup. I will be too far away to run an ethernet cable from the router to the airport express. So I have decided I shall use it to join the network wirelessly and relay internet through both the Wan and Lan port (think this is called bridge mode?). I was also intending on connecting an ethernet hub to one of the ports so that I can connect multiple devices, smart tv, macbook, ps3 etc. But having one of the ports exclusively to my gaming pc.
My question is, with both Lan and Wan ports relaying internet to multiple devices, would I see a drop in performance, in particular in regard to my compter? Or is the airport express able to join both the 2.4GHz or 5GHz and relay each connection to a specific lan port?
Unfortunately I am not in a position to test this yet, lacking a 5GHz connection in my halls, so I would appreciate if anyone could help shed some light.
    Thank you

is the main router also an apple product? if so, then yes you can extend wirelessly, but if the main router is an apple product, why are you bothering to extend wirelessly at all when the main router's signals should be strong enough?
if the main router is NOT an apple router, then you wil NOT be able to extend it wirelessly period.
in my experience, there are very FEW places you NEED to extend a network wirelessly, and i always recommend against it since there is a big performance decrease.
In the case of a wirelessly extended network, throughput may be reduced to less than 60 percent of that of a single device.

  • Question about TC setup, bridge mode and security...

    Hello All
    I need some help...
Have bought a 1 Tb TC to use with my existing ethernet/wireless all-Mac home network but have some specific queries.
The system is set-up as follows:
Cable modem > connected by ethernet cable to > 8-way Ethernet switch
Connected via ethernet cable to the 8-way switch are: one MacBook (in another part of the house) and the TC (via its WAN socket).
Elsewhere in the house, and _all connected wirelessly_ are:
    iMac G5
    Powerbook G4
hi-fi (connected via an Airport Express)
Airport Extreme basestation to which a HP Laserjet is connected via ethernet.
    Question:
Before buying the TC, I used a spare Airport Express basestation in its place to act as the 'main' basestation and the IP addresses of each device on the network were 10.0.0.1, 2, 3, etc. I had the impression that my home network was not "seen" by the outside world as a consequence of this.
Now, the TC seems only to work when in 'bridge' mode and it seems that the IP addresses are 196.xxx.x.100, 101, 102 etc. Does this mean that these devices are now visible to the outside world. Have I compromised my network security? I am worried that the outside world may have access to the contents of my TC, although my TC is password protected and the wireless network is 'closed'. What else should I be doing?
Finally, should I have set up the network so that the cable modem feeds to TC directly, with the 8-way ethernet switch coming off one of the ethernet sockets on the TC?
In all honestly, the instructions in the manual and the help guide are less than clear.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Daniel

Section 4, here are my thoughts.
    1. Since you are currently seeing individual IP addresses like 196.xxx.xxx.100, etc., it sounds like your modem is also acting as a router. This also seems to be the case since the Time Capsule is only working in bridged mode (it wouldn't work in Share a Public IP address if another device is assigning private DHCP addresses). Now, you could still allow the Time Capsule to act as a DHCP server on your private network by enabling Connection Sharing as Distribute a range of IP addresses. This will create a private network within your private network where all the devices that are connected to your Time Capsule can see each other. If you leave it in bridged mode then you allow your cable modem to assign DHCP addresses and all devices that are connected to the Time Capsule or to your ethernet switch are on the same network.
    2. Assuming your cable modem is acting as a router you shouldn't have to worry about security, although you will have to access your modem's settings to make sure port forwarding isn't enabled and that the firewall is turned on (although I'm sure it is). I personally would plug the ethernet switch into the LAN port of the Time Capsule and allow the WAN port of the Time Capsule to be plugged into the cable modem. I also would just leave the Time Capsule in bridged mode as well, that's what I do for my own personal network.

  • Mini Server, bridging Ethernet and Airport ?

    Hy there.
I´ve got a Mini running 10.5 Server with Ethernet en0 and Airport. To set up for testing I´m want to set the Mini as a wireless bridge. With NAT and the gateway assistant, I`m only apple to set up routing with a block Airport -> Ethernet. In detail:
    Ethernet 192.168.100.x
Airport 192.168.1.x with NAT and DHCP
Clients connected to Airport aren`t able to go to the 192.168.100.x network.
Is it possible to bridge the two nic´s?
    Aggregation won´t work on Airport.
    Thanks for reply.

The network configuration details and the goals aren't entirely clear (to me) here, so I'm going to shot-gun several answers here. I (also) don't know how experienced you are with IP networking and terminology; apologies in advance.
"Bridging" occurs at layer 2 and is relatively comparable to a network cable or such and thus arguably transparent to network traffic (you can't "see" a bridge at the network layer any more than you can "see" a hunk of network cable), where "Routing" is layer 3 and typically involves IP addresses and a routing stack. Bridging doesn't involve an IP network address for the intermediate device, where routing does.
Your Mac Mini here lacks bridging capabilities, and would be either a non-routing host or (with two NICs and a requirement to route traffic through) an IP router.
Various Airport devices can be configured as routers or as bridges. The default configuration is the former; as a WiFi router. If you want to run the Airport as a bridge, then it won't have an IP address. Various folks will refer to a WiFi device set up as a bridge as an Access Point, as well.
Depending on the subnet configuration (and I will here assume you are using two subnets here, the 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.100.0/24 subnets) and if you're using your Airport as a router in 192.168.100.0/24, you'll need to set up the Mac Mini or another IP router-capable device in 192.168.1.0/24 as the default IP gateway (default router) within the Airport configuration. That default gateway (router) will itself need a path to the wider Internet, and routes to other subnets.
Getting a Mac to function as a router and as a network gateway (and with NAT and firewall) is possible, but you'll have to set up the default routes appropriately. It's generally (far!) easier to use an external box for this purpose; a dedicated firewall and NAT and router box. It's also something I typically prefer; having users and software configuration changes and the usual sorts of activity found on a Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server occurring on a firewall can risk (accidentally, unintentionally) open up a remote exposure.
If you want to use link aggregation with Mac OS X Server, then you'll usually need a network switch capable of IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation. AFAIK, Airport doesn't provide link aggregation.
Apropos of nothing else in this reply, if you're planning to eventually use VPNs (tunnels), I'd also suggest getting out of 192.168.0.0/16 address range (and into 10.0.0.0/8 or 172.16.0.0/12, per RFC 1918), everybody uses that, and various tunnels need unique subnets both locally and on the target end of the connection.
Here's an intro to [networking, routers and firewall|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/275] pieces, and a previous discussion of [IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation, BGP and such|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9141545] here in the forums.
It's my general preference to block access to the LAN with a dedicated firewall/NAT/router box for the reasons described above as well as other reasons; that box can act as the default gateway for all subnets, as well.
If I've entirely missed your question with the above answer(s), hopefully the above can help us get a little closer to your particular goal and an appropriate solution.

  • Bridge CC and ACR unbearably slow

Upon researching the issue of a slow Bridge CC I realize I am not alone nor is this a new problem. The thread I read extensively is almost a year old. Despite paying for CC for about 9 months I still use CS6. I had hopes that the new 2014 CC would solve the bridge performance issues.
I am running a six-core system with 32 GB ram, an SSD for my OS and programs, an empty 1.5 TB drive dedicated to cache, on a win 7 - 64bit OS. Bridge CC and camera raw are so slow I can't use them.  My only comparison is CS6 and using the same settings for both programs.
When opening bridge CC to the folder that was previously cached and loaded used it took ~51 seconds of "building criteria" before i could view the file types, ratings, and details in the filter box. In other words I do not see any information in the filters box for that time. I made sure that the thumbs were completely loaded into the cache before I closed Bridge CC and opened the program to the same folder. The same folder in Cs6 takes ~4 second to load..
I have performance issues in ACR too.
I batch edit in ACR like out lightroom counterparts do but Bridge CC Plus ACR are too slow to work with.
I selected the same 20 raw files in each case.
bridge CC camera raw 8.5 took 5 seconds of a watch icon  to load the files into the camera raw dialog after hitting CTRL R
No edits or changes were made to the files.
when i click to the next image in the list (still in camera raw) it takes  0.5-1 second of the watch icon to load the next raw photo in the batch.
in CS6 I selected the same 20 unedited RAW files, CTRL R and they immediately load. I can switch from raw file to RAW file without any hiccup or delay. 5 seconds vs instant. I didn't build a six core system to wait for things to load.
not exactly scientific but that's the disparity I am seeing. Bridge CC is death to me. To make sure I wasn't crazy I clicked on a recent folder with only 80 raw files, 80 respective small jpgs and a couple video files (4.5 gigs of data). It took so long I freaked out that I had moved the files to a backup location instead of copying them. After 30 seconds I stopped counting, opened windows explorer, browsed the backup folder, copied the files and was about to paste them to what should have been the original location and then Bridge decided that it was ready to work. For that ~ 60-85 seconds there was no watch icon, no spinning circle or "building criteria". It just looked as if I was browsing an empty folder.
    Any suggestions?

    c. Once you post something that's helpful I'm sure someone will give you a thanks, until then stop trolling these boards - your name was all over that thread with useless and unhelpful information
Well mister Chuck 'know it al', you can congratulate yourself. With just 2 posts in the past year and no points for helpful answers at al you come in hard and call one of the most helpful posters a troll.
This was the limit for both of us, we had to stand a lot, including no help from Adobe but a more crippled forum website after each major upgrade. No possibility to place FAQs, a lot of people screaming for help without taking the effort to look first for similar problems, almost never providing correct details, crucial for a mixed Mac/Windows forum.
We had to suffer a lot, getting in unpaid and just plain users like all other guests, only it did cost us a lot of spare time.
But now we can rest from this task because mister Chuck "know it al" has jumped in to the rescue.
I wish you good luck and pity your friends and family, it must be a difficult task to live with such a nice person.
    Goodbye to you all!!

  • Has anyone else downloaded iOS 7 on a 4S and found the WiFi and Bluetooth don't work anymore?

I'm used to Apple products that "just work", but I'm not seeing it with the installation of iOS 7 on my phone (4S). I installed it earlier today, and the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth worked for about an hour, then just quit working altogether. The WiFi button is grayed out in Settings, and Bluetooth dosen't even display a button (all I get is a throbber that continuously spins). Trying to activate them through the "swipe-up" command center doesn't do the trick, and resetting the network settings also accomplishes nothing. Several reboots later, and I still don't have WiFi and Bluetooth.
Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution? I may just decide to eschew iOS 7 and restore my pph

After multiple attempts to restore and reboot, I finally decided to take a trip to my local AT & T store. They contacted Apple, and I explained the situation. I ended up moving to the iPhone 5, as my 4S was in the renew period. The 4S is still under warranty, so all I have to do is bring it to an Apple Store, where they will either fix or replace the phone. Looks like one of my kids will be getting a 4S :-)

  • Unable to Open Images in Bridge CS3 and Continuing Icon issues!

Re: Icon issues in Bridge CS3 and also with Photo Downloader that have never been there before.
So, these are the issues.   Just one of the folders that previously would show thumbnails now only shows DNG icons, and none will open in Photoshop to let me work on previous image.    Issue #2  - can't download images with Photo Downloaders - both my wife's Canon G9 only shows CR2 icons, and my Nikon D300 only shows NEF icons - neither of these issues had appeared before or been an issue.  Third issue.  None of my Bridge folders - even those with regular thumbnail immages- will open now - get a message that says words to the effect of Photoshop doesn't recognize this type of file.  Computer is a Mac, with OS 10.5.8
I recently tried to make more room on HD, so must have taken some critical files/commands out by accident.
Thanks for your time and previous  suggestions - still not working.  I'm sure that in trying to correct things have made things even worse- as may be noticed  by the two snapshots I've attached.  The first is one from a library from my user section.  The second library image is from my hard drive.  Hopefully you and others aren't laughing or crying too much over what you see - redundantcy, etc!  All of my energies have focused on taking photos, obviously none to proper setup/use of organizing things on my Mac.  But after the laughing has stopped, any help will be tremendously appreciated - am most anxious to getting back to working with and saving images.

    Thanks in advance

First of all, if you don't know much about how applications work inside of the OS, its wise to not look in the application folder(s). Deleting anything here can make your apps go haywire. If this happened, then you are best to 1)unregister photoshop, 2) uninstall your entire suite. 3) reinstall the suite and finally 4) reregister photoshop.
All images/textures/photo's including dng, cr2 and nef files need to be stored in your pictures folder and no where else, unless you're an intermediate user on your OS. In your pictures folder you can create folders for organizing the pictures whether by location, season's, time, or file format.
Then when you back up you can just drag a copy of the files to another drive including cd's or dvd's.
This will make sure you don't accidently delete important app files.
All this said, my OS of choice is Windows, so if anything does not sound right, thats why.
    Hopefully this helps...
