Bridging two WRT300N access points

I already bought them because I was able to do this in older routers and thought I would not have an issue doing it. Please tell me I did not wate 260$ on routers I can not bridge. The link below is to a crude drawing of what i'm trying to do. Basically I want to connect two computers at a distance using the two WRT300N routers.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dustin

Hi , what you wanna do is not possible with the stock linksys firmware, and as per my knowledge, there is'nt a 3rd party firmware for the 300N

    Hello all.
I have tried to find out how to activate something called "bridge mode" or "access point" and failed.
Can anyone help me? I need to use the wireless router between another router and my computer.
I hope you can help me.
    Thank you...

Yes. That's correct. You also have to change the LAN IP address of the router to avoid address conflicts.

  • Can a single Access Point support both bridge mode and Access Point mode at the same time

    Hi Guys
Does anyone know which access point can work in both bridge mode and AP mode ?
    Cheers

Well what are you trying to cover. If its really a large outdoor area, then look at the mesh AP. Those require a WLC. Autonomous or stand alone ap can perform bridging on one radio and client access on another. You can also look at AP that support indoor mesh that also controlled by a wlc. If your putting APs outdoors, then look at the outdoor mesh.

  • Roaming between two WiFi access points fails

    Hi...
I just bought a Hawking WiFi range extender...a device that acts like a second wireless access point for rooms that are far from your wireless router. It's also known as a repeater. It has the same SSID (network name) as the one set up by the router.
You are supposed to be able to move about the house and you will connect to whichever device has the higher signal strength, transparently, with no hiccups, like moving your cell phone from one cell antenna to another.
The setup works fine with my Dell laptop, but not with my MacBook Pro or my iPad. When I change "zones", the Network locks up. This is repeatable and consistent.
I've heard rumors about Apple product difficulties with this "WiFi roaming."
    Can anyone help?
    Thx
    Steve

I've been using a roaming setup in my home for years.  The company I work for has building wide WiFi roaming setup with multiple WiFi access points on each floor.  At home and at work, I frequently move my MacBook between access points without loosing things like my VPN, Screen Sharing, File Sharing, ssh terminal sessions, etc....
But 3rd party networking hardware has not always been well tested against Apple products.  Many times 3rd party networking vendors test against some version of Windows and then ship it.  Sometimes the 3rd party vendor offers a firmware update that corrects issues with Apple products.
At home I have Apple Airport Extreme base stations for my roaming setup.  At work, the company is using Cisco commercial WiFi access points.
A roaming setup needs to have all WiFi devices on the same network "Subnet".  That means a 2nd WiFi base station cannot act as a router, but must be just a bridge on the existing router's subnet (generally that means it cannot be offering DHCP services nor NAT services).
The 2nd WiFi base station must have the same SSID (as you said you setup).
And it must have the same security password using the same encryption algorithm (WPA2 preferred from a security stand point).  You did not mention this, but I'll assume you did this as well.

  • Similar SSID for two 1252 access points

Hi, we currently have one 1252 AP. It has two Vlans. One for data and one for voice. Just bought another 1252 AP and going to have similar setup.
I read I can have similar SSID so that uses don't need to re-authenticate to the other AP. If this is true, can I just copy the config.txt file to the other AP, except of course I'll change the static IP addr of the AP. Pls advise, thks.

    Hi sohocisco,
Keeping the same SSID/VLAN will ensure that L2 roaming is possible, which is what you want. Depending on your authentication methods, though, you may need to configure WDS in order to ensure for seamless roaming as you describe.
Note that this is only if you're using and EAP or WPA (non-PSK) authentication method. Please see this document for configuration assistance:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.3_7_JA/configuration/guide/s37roamg.html
    I hope that helps!

  • Access Point Bridge Configuration

I have two 1262N access points with 5Ghz antennas, and I have configured one of them as a root bridge and the other as a non-root bridge; both using the same ssid.  I have enble both dott11Radio interfaces on each access point.  The problem I am having is that they do not associate.  I have not configured them for any encryption or security.  I just want to make sure the connect before I add any other configuration.  Is there anything else that I need to configure to make them associate.

  • 2 Access Points?

I have a E4200 as well as a WRT54G. I'm looking to create two different access points to the same network, one access point being 802.11g (WRT54G) and the other being 802.11n (E4200) I want to do this because I need the extra speed from 802.11n for streaming video to my consoles. The problem is that there are multiple devices that only reach up to 802.11g.
Would it be possible to plug the WRT54G into the E4200 in order to give a second access point (probably with different SSID) so that 802.11g devices can connect to the network, without having to destroy my 802.11n network? The WRT54G is currently running DD-WRT.

Yes. You can use two access points. davidssw posted the general instructions. I think dd-wrt even supports "bridge mode" which allows you to to connect the internet port of the WRT to your E4200. You could then use all 4 ethernet ports on the WRT for wired devices.
You can use different SSIDs etc. on both. Most important make sure that you assign different non-overlapping channels on both for the 2.4 GHz band. Pick two from 1,6,11. Operate the E4200 on 20 MHz channels only for the 2.4 GHz band.m Don't use the "auto 20/40" setting. A 40 MHz channel on the 2.4 GHz band basically allocates most of the total available 2.4 GHz band and thus you will most definitively interfere with your WRT and the E4200 should eventually automatically switch back to 20 MHz channels anyway. Thus, instead choose 20 MHz and a static channel to avoid this situation.
I would also suggest to use a different SSID for the 5 GHz band on the E4200 and, if possible, use that SSID for streaming. Of course, this depends on your consoles and whether they support the 5 GHz band or not...

  • Access points settings Lumia 820

I just want to know if it is possible to have both MMS and GPRS active at the same time in windows 8 phones. That was possible with Symbian but not possible on my Lumia 820.

    Hi ddt1,
    Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
Regarding your query, the access point that you have on the Lumia 820 will be used as one. If you have both MMS and GPRS, you can use them both at the same time. You don't need to choose between the two ( 2 ) access point anymore. Your statement "not possible on my Lumia 820" means that you are having trouble with the phone. Can you tell us what exactly is happening on the phone? Is there any error happening on it? If there is, can you tell us what the error is?
We're looking forward to your response for us to further assist you.

  • User unable to connect to new access point AIR-CAP3502P-S-K9

    Hi Guys,
In my branch there are 8 access points[ AIR-CAP3502I-S-K9 ] connected to Wireless controller which is been working fine since the beginning.. I had to add two more access points to this branch and after the failure, i realised this Access point [ AIR-CAP3502P-S-K9 ] is latest and it needs the minimum image 7.3.101.. So i did a upgrade on WLC 5508 and all 10 access points have joined successfully...
Issue am facing is when NEW users come under AP 9 and AP 10 get associated successfully, but the old users(Projetc Manager) who been in the branch for very long and able to get associated with other AP's [1 to 8] gets associated successfully with all old AP's but not with the new AP's..
Could please some one advise, why this strange behaviour... I googled for answer but am not getting any right solution...

  • E60 SIP and several access points

I have e60 and use it to make VoIP calls within our corporate network. We have several access points in the office (office is big and one point is not enough to cover it.) Thus, I have two SIP profiles in the phone for two different access points with "always on" option. Everything works fine until I start walking between those points and phone loses connection to one point and establishes connection to the other. Often, when I return to the area of the first point, the phone gets frozen and dialpad is not working. However, menu button is still working and navigation is possible. The only way to get phone working normally again is to reboot it.
Has anyone faced that problem? Any suggestions to solve it? I have FW 2.0618.06.05 RM-49 which seems to be the latest one.
    Thnx!

  • Kin1m- Can't pull DHCP from any Access Point on 2 different phones

I am hoping someone can help us.
I have two kin1m phones, and have recently attempted to use the WIFI connectivity.  Browsing works fine via the data plan, however, I blocked the data plan (online), intending to only use WIFI on the phones but cannot get either of the two phones to work via WiFi.
Have have tried two different access points, and everything from OPEN to WEP to WPA2 and both AES and TKIP.
I get connected to the access point just fine, but the only address that is allocated is the DNS server.  The IP, subnet, gateway, etc. remain blank or all zeros for about 5 minutes, then it sets a default apipa address in the 169.254.x.x class B range.
This is the same on both phones, so I have a tough time believing this is a defect.  Like I said, I have tried both a Linksys WAP4400N (Firmware Version: 1.2.14) and a TrendNet TEW-430APB
Please advise, as my kids are going to DRIVE ME CRAZY over this!
    Thanks,

paulbarbee wrote:I tried manually running ¨/etc/rc.d/dhcp4 start¨ but that ...
... But that is a dhcp server, not a client.  In other words, you are trying to tell your computer to provide other computers on that public network with IP addresses.  Because you did not set your configuration file up to serve that subnet, the server choose to ignore it.  This is fortunate, because the owner of that network might not have appreciated that
You want to run dhcpcd, which is a client.  You might also try dhclient, a client that sometimes is more forgiving.

  • 1131 access point, broken flash?

I have had two 1131 access points die in the last few weeks, both with the same symptoms. I suspect both have broken flash systems and are due for the bin. If anyone can offer any confirmation or a way to fix it, I would be grateful.
On booting, it gives the following error:
    Xmodem file system is available.
flashfs[0]: unable to allocate available block.
The system has been interrupted, or encountered an error
during initializion of the flash filesystem.  The following
commands will initialize the flash filesystem, and finish
    loading the operating system software:
        flash_init
        ether_init
        tftp_init
        boot
    ap:
Trying to wake up the flash:
    ap: flash_init
    Initializing Flash...
flashfs[0]: unable to allocate available block.
    ...done Initializing Flash.
    ap: dir flash
unable to stat flash/: permission denied
I have tried the standard recovery mode of uploading a new firmware via TFTP, but I can't even set variables:
    ap: set IP_ADDR 10.0.0.1
    flash:/env_vars.tmp: invalid argument
The filesystem containing the variables may not be initialized yet.

Thanks for the tip, however I should probably have said the access points are autonomous, so the method you suggested will not work.
    Yes it does.
    You need a two-step method.
Your AP is booting up with either no IOS or a corrupt IOS.
    1.  In order to efficiently transfer the IOS to an AP that has no IOS you need to use the process I've posted earlier.
    2.  Once the AP boots up in autonomous mode, it's as easy as giving the BVI1 an IP address and use the command "copy tftp: flash:" to transfer the LWAP/CAPWAP IOS to the AP.

  • E4200 as a Access Point/Bridge Mode

I have spent most of the weekend trying to get this router to act as a proper Access Point.
Has any got this to work correctly?
When it does work (Stay connected) speeds and latency are rotten. If I go back to Routing Mode this thing kicks butt, but I isolate all devices attached to a different subnet and trying to set up proper routes has proved imposable.
    Firmware 1.0.2 r 13
The online help stated to connect to the "internet interface" when in Bridge Mode DHCP Server Is not broadcasting to on the wireless or wired interfaces.
If I used the wired interface as the uplink I can broadcast the DHCP to any device on wired but again nothing to the Wireless.
When I "Show Routing Table" I see two static routes pointing to the ATT router for the Wired/Wireless Interfaces.....
    0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 (my Gateway) Wired/Wireless
    (my Gateway) 255.255.255.0 0.0.0. Wired/Wireless
    Why??
AP mode should only be working in Broadcast.
By connecting the Wired Interfaces alone up to my switched network should not use the router at all.
If you force all traffic to my router all traffic has to be inspected by the firewall
You create a bottleneck my router interface is 10/100.
ATT 2 Wire Gateway/Router with pinholes. 10/100/1000 Non managed 24 port Switch Network. Server infrastructure serving DNS/DHCP.
I decided to buy this after reading it offered Bridge/Access Point mode instead of getting the WAP610 because I wanted to have the option to change to routing mode or AP mode.
Since my ATT Uverse Router Wireless is “g” it takes forever to transfer files to and from my servers.

OK If this helps... I am running a SOHO
2Wire DSL Router with DHCP Off  Assigned 192.168.100.1 as the Router Gateway IP. NAT Enabled All firewall is being handled via 2Wire. Currently 2Wire WiFi is disabled. For the Linksys E4200
    2wire 10/100 interface up-linked into my d-link 24 port 10/100/1000 Layer 2 unmanaged switch.
DHCP and DNS Servers on d-link switch
    VOIP on d-link switch

    E4200 in Bridge Mode
Devices connected to 4X E4200 Gig Ports do not receive DHCP broadcast IP Address
Device Connected to E4200 WiFi do not receive DHCP BroadcastIP Address
Assign Static IP to my laptop WiFi in the 192.168.100.X range will establish communication but HUGE latency and poor speeds for any traffic internet or internally to any of my servers.
At times the connection gets lost.
In this configuration I get the above stated Route Tables.
If this is layer 2 compliant it should be handing all local subnet traffic via MAC instead of routing.
I have not taken the time to attempt to reconfigure my 2Wire to go into DMZ Plus mode and allow the linksys to handle all routing,  but from previous attempt with my wrt54 it did not go well. I accepted the slow 2Wire WiFi speeds.
It is now getting to the point I am looking for better WiFi to local LAN speeds , I also am looking to do Layer 2 and bypass Routing if I can.
    The WAP160 has a 10/100 interface. I prefer gig

  • 1300 Series Access Point/Bridge Power Injector - Using power over ethernet

Can I use power over ethernet to supply the Injector with power?

    Hi Mikael,
    Sorry, this will not work. Have a look at these specs;
    1300 Series Power
    Power
The access point/bridge receives inline power from the Cisco Aironet Power Injector (hereafter called the power injector). Dual-coax cables are used to provide Ethernet data and power from the power injector to the access point/bridge. The power injector is an external unit designed for operation in a sheltered environment, such as inside a building or vehicle. The power injector also functions as an Ethernet repeater by connecting to a Category 5 LAN backbone and using the dual-coax cable interface to the access point/bridge.
The power injector is available in two models:
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2 standard version (included with the access point/bridge)
    48-VDC input power
Uses the 48-VDC power module (included with the access point/bridge)
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2T optional transportation version
    12- to 40-VDC input power
Note The power injector and the power module must not be placed in an outdoor unprotected environment. The power module must not be placed in a building's environmental air space, such as above a suspended ceiling.

The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge Power Injector, converts the standard 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interface that is suitable for weather protected areas to a dual F-Type connector interface for coax cables that are more suitable for harsh outdoor environments. The Power Injector also provides power to the outdoor unit over the same cables with a power discover feature and surge protection. To support longer cable runs from your wireless network switch or router, the Power Injector LR is designed to accommodate up to a 100 meter coaxial cable run plus 100 meters of indoor cat5 cable?enabling total cable runs up to 200 meters. The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge ships with the Power Injector LR2 and an AC power supply.
