I am new to SAP Domain and Planning to Learn SAP BI and have a career, so i came across the SAP NetWeaver and just want to known about what exactly is SAP NetWeaver and how it is linked with SAP BI.

Information about SAP Netweaver portal

Hi,
I am looking for information on SAP Netweaver portal, basic info getting started kind of stuff and other related stuff.
I am new to portal world, I know java, servlets, jsps.
I have to prepare document on introduction of SAP Netweaver portal, features, how to go about development, tools required, collaboration etc.

Basic knowledge about Sap Netweaver, Web As, Web Dynpro

Hi guys,
I am a new nut guy trying to understand Sap NetWeaver. Could you guys explain to me just briefly in the most simplest ordinary terms about points below. I tried to read documentations but do not understand completely.
1) What is Sap NetWeaver? Does it comes with several components?
2) What is Web AS?? what does it serve?
3) I heard about Web Dynpro for Java and Web Dynpro for Abap. They are used to develop Web applications in Java language and the other in Abap language. I'm interested just on knowing the Java side.
I just want to understand the hardware systtem achitecture and associated software to be installed.
Now for Java, I heard that we need to install Web Developper Studio, rite?? then which version should I install, Sap Netweaver SP16 or Sap Neweaver 2004 or Sap Netweaver 2004s?? where can i find it?? should it be installed in front end station? do i need Java?
Now for Web AS, where do i install it??

Hi Ralph, I will try to keep it simple.

1) What is Sap NetWeaver? Does it comes with several components?

SAP Netweaver is the platform in which all SAP software runs on top of. For example R/3 ran on the "Basis" layer, this is simular in ECC6.0, where ECC is the R/3 part and Netweaver(ABAP stack) is the "Basis" Layer. With Netweaver you get two stacks, ABAP and Java. SAP components run on one or the other. Netweaver includes, but is not limited to:
Netweaver Application Server(formerly called WebAS)
Netweaver Portal(formerly called EP)
Netweaver XI(I think there is a new name for this)
etc.

2) What is Web AS?? what does it serve?

WebAS is now called Netweaver Application Server, this is the basis for all applications, whether ABAP or java based. For example the ECC(R/3 component) runs on the ABAP stack of Netweaver Application Server, the Netweaver Portal runs on the Java stack of NW Application Server.

3) I heard about Web Dynpro for Java and Web Dynpro for Abap. They are used to develop Web applications in Java language and the other in Abap language. I'm interested just on knowing the Java side.

For the java side, you develop the webdynpro applications locally on your laptop using NWDS(Netweaver Developer Studio) and then deploy this application to the Netweaver Application Server(java stack). You can then implement the application into an iView in the NW Portal.

Which NWDS to install depends on the version of the java engine in which you are working with. The rule is that you keep the version of NWDS in sync with the version of the Netweaver Application Server(java engine). Usually the NW AS, is intalled on a standalone server(not your laptop), but you can install sneak preview editions on your laptop for testing .

Where can I find release notes about SAP Netweaver 7.0 SPS18

Dear everyone,
I'm looking fot the documents about details of SAP Netweaver 7.0 SPS18.
Before I upgrade our EP 7.0 from SPS16 to SPS18, I want to what's in SPS18.
For example, new features, what's been fixed...etc.
I can't find any information about this.
Where can I get it?

You can find them in the following way:
1. Go to http://help.sap.com/
2. Choose SAP NetWeaver on top, then SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) on left.
3. In the list of products in the top part of the page, choose *SAP NetWeaver 7.0 *.
4. Choose What's New - Release Notes, and then choose on right the language (the example below is for English).
5. When the help page loads in a new window/tab, choose Release Notes by NetWeaver Systems and Standalone Engines on left.
This way you can access all release notes for NW 7.0.

You will need a Markeplace id to access the downloads section as mentioned by Arafat.
Ask your Basis guy to create one for you and then goto following path to download the NWDS:-

As far as I know there is no trial version NWDS but you can download complete NetWeaver 7.0 release from [here |https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/60d6c8b7-5d8f-2910-31bf-ebdf74fefd8b] which contains the NWDS.

Hi All:
I am a graduate student currently doing a research on 'Model-Driven Business Process Application'. I came across some literature about SAP NetWeaver during my research. SAP NetWeaver has generated a lot of interest in me and I would like to know more detailed information about it:
How is SAP adopting BPM principles to manage Work-flows? Can we consider any of the current NetWeaver applications as model-driven?
It would be great to know the answers to some of these questions. I would sincerely appreciate if anyone of you could please help me with this. Also, thank you very much for your time and efforts. I would be happy to assign reward points to any informative responses.

SAP Netweaver 7.1 - Released?

All,
I had a few questions about the SAP Netweaver 7.1. Has it been released? I am not able to locate installation files for the 7.1. If not, when is it scheduled to be released?
Also, I am so confused as to what the difference is between SAP Netweaver CE 7.1 and SAP Netweaver 7.1. Am I able to download a Netweaver web AS 7.1 with CE??

Question regarding SAP NetWeaver JEE

It seems it is not possible to deploy an EJB JAR file module as is. I use NetBeans with GlassFish to develop EJB modules that expose Web Services endpoints. The backend is Oracle Database. I develop on my local workstation and after testing launch the browser and login to the admin console of GlassFish on production server. I then simply deploy the jar file which is the EJB module. It all works. I'm wondering if I can get this to work on SAP JEE with none to little tweaking. But it seems it is not straight-forward without using the IDE. If you know of a way I can do this can you please point me to it. Thanks!

OK, straight to your question: You can deploy externally developed applications as well as applications developed in the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio. Take a look at <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/882f621d-0e01-0010-99b7-c5bc4f1a4b6b">this</a> paper (especially from page 9 on).
Regarding "with none to little tweaking" - in general, you only have to pack the EJB JAR into a standard EAR file (deployment of standalone EJB apps is not supported in this version). If you don't rely on any non-standard features of GlassFish or Oracle, this should be sufficient.

SMD HostAgent - SAP Netweaver

Hello,
I have deployed the SMD Agent (SAP Agent) and the Wily IS Agent (CA agent) for my XDS managed system.
From "Solution Manager Diagnostics" tools, when I click on "Introscope WebView", I get the following information :
1. SAP HostAgent Process (SuperDomain)
    - SAP HostAgent J982
       - EM Host ....
2. SAP NetWeaver
    - XDS_DVEMGS31_server0 (SuperDomain)
       - EM Host
Question 01:
1. SAP HostAgent Process is the SMD Agent of XDS.
2. What about "SAP NetWeaver" ? Is it the content of "Wily IS JAVA Agent" ?
Question 02 :
From (1) "SAP HostAgent Process" and (2) "SAP NetWeaver", we get the same information, for example :
1. EM Host
2. Java Version
3. Launch Time
4. Virtual Machine
5. Agents Stats
6. Host
7. GC Heap ...
It seems that both agents are collecting the same data.
What it the SAP strategy in the future ?
Keep only one Agent (SMD) or keep both agents (SMD + Wily) ?

Hi PC,
For Qusetion 1)-1 Host agents and wily bytecode agents are both IS agents. SAP host agent is one delivered with SMD Agent and is common for both ABAP and Java based systems.
2) Yes SAP Netweaver is the Byte code agent deployed through SDM and configured via SMD.
Question 2).
1) Only few datas will be common.IS byte code agents is specific for Java and has more details specific to the Java component installed. You still require an SMD agent for Configurations/Data collection in ABAP. so I reckon there will be two agents in future too. But there can be surprises ;).

I dont have an Export DVD of Netweaver 7.00 EHP3. I just downloaded the application from SDN and I got this files (IMAGE) after descompressed.
I started the installation from beginning. This is not an upgrade of system. Its my first time that I install this application.
please look at the pictures. I tried this path. What is missing?
