Brief hi-res screen review for MBP.

I waited to get the high resolution screen when I got this MBP, mostly because I'd be working on photography during a journey.
I appreciated it on a long trip, allowing me to let  watch end-of-season 49'ers and Giants' games, but had no idea how poor the reception I experienced was. Now, looking at a game from last night on it, I'm truly surprised by the excellence of the picture.
For those who care about it, whatever your visual focus, it's worth it.
Karen
When using it, the high res means what you see and move here and there online (photos, whatever) on your high res monitor will be bigger to most people.

Thanks for the reply. I do understand that everything on the Refurb list has been returned and reconditioned by Apple. Just looking to save a few bucks if I can find the configuration I want and I've been watching the Refurb list for about 2 months now. What surprised me is the complete lack of Hi-Res glossy screens. And that got me wondering if there is a well-known reason that the Hi-Res screens are mostly (all?) antiglare as well.

  • Keyboard/screen protector for MBP 13"?

    Hello,
I'd like to replace the foamy sheet that my new MBP came with and that goes between the screen and the keyboard with something more durable and more suitable for frequent use. I've been using a felt interlay on my PB for years, which prevented all transfer of dirt from the keys onto the screen, but it's too thick for use on the MBP. I saw the Moshi Clearguard, and am thinking of getting me one, but that wouldn't prevent dirt transfer to the screen of course.
Any suggestions, apart from cutting out an old bed sheet?
BTW, there's a comment concerning the Clearguard in the French Apple Store that suggests that there are symbols painted on it - I hope that's not the case?

Yes, that's mostly an anti-glare film. And of course the brilliant, polished glass is much easier to clean than the matte screen of my Powerbook ever was... (I admit I hadn't thought of that yet).
As to the AZERTY comment: the product photos (http://store.apple.com/fredu5001047/product/TW848ZM/A?mco=MTU4NzM1NDA) show an MBP with a qwerty keyboard. One of the comments states that despite that illustration, the product is azerty...
I'll keep an eye out for the Radtech inlay, thanks. Meanwhile, a piece of paper will do, or a bit of microfibre cloth if I find it (paper gets dirty and invites a bit too much to use it for scribbling notes )

It appears the 15" 2.2 ghz isn't worth spending $400 more for, but you get the 1GB Radeon 6750M that has four times the VRAM than the 15" 2.0Ghz model and about 167% more performance. High settings on all current games with over 50 fps.
If your not into 3D gaming or just light weight, then the 2.0 Ghz (last years performance) will suffice on low-medium settings at about 30 fps.
The 13" is rather poor as it has integrated graphics. 30 fps on only some games.
The high res screen is a excellent choice and the anti-glare is great for viewing just about anywhere.
No messy films to replace at $30-$40 a pop.
A lot of people bring the glossy screens back once they hear about the anti-glare.

    Here's my 17"
In my opinion the extra $400 for another 2-3 years of use out of the computer is worth it.
Quad cores are more than enough for most uses for most people for many years, it's just a slow card is going to make the machine feel slow in rendering graphics in the future.

  • Purchasing MBP & then get a Hi Res Screen Installed?

Hi, I couldn't find this question submitted.
I am thinking of buying a new MBP UK, 15-inch: 2.6 GHz. I primarily want to use it for some Visual Effects work & regular activities (ie Web, photo, etc.) I don't think I can afford the Retina & if I could, I'd rather buy the top non Retina at this stage as the lower Retina's HD is too small & I'd want to upgrade RAM.
Is it possible to get a Hi Res screen (the one offered on the configure page for £80) fitted after you have purchased the laptop? Or do you have to upgrade it through Apple when you buy? If it is possible does anyone know where? If this is not possible I guess it's best to buy it standard & get an external display in the future.
    Thanks in advance.

  • MBP 15 Hi-Res, any reviews?

I'm interested in the 15" MBP hi-res but can't seem to find any in the store with the glossy screen. The only one they carry in store (Walnut Creek, CA) is the 15" hi-res matte screen.
Does anyone who has messed around with the 15" hi-res (glossy) have any feedback?
    thanks

Just received my 15" MacBook Pro with hi-res anti-glare screen today. Love the screen (came from a Core2Duo MacBook, black casing) on the MacBook Pro, crazy bright. Love the anti-glare, can't stand glossy screens.
I was a little surprised to see that my MacBook Pro has no black bezel, it is all aluminum with a black rubber seal along the outer edge. It reminds me of my PowerBook G4 casing actually. I have no problem with its looks. Haven't really ever been around recent MacBook Pros with the glossy screens to compare if the regular black bezel looks better or not.
Screen is absolutely great though, go for high-res, and go for anti-glare. I am a professional photographer and now I finally have a laptop screen I would trust with editing shots for clients on (my glossy MacBook I had connected to an external Dell 2407 WFP-HC monitor all its life basically).

  • What gives the best contrast and sharpness in text and reading documents on macbook pro with Hi-res screen, glossy or anti glare ?

    HI,
I consider buying a MacBook pro 15 with hi-res screen.
My primary use is text editing and document reading (primarily Word).
I want as good as possible "clearness" or is it called contrast, leat blurry looking text.
Anyone who has any experience and/or opinion on this.
    Thanks for your answer.
    Terje

If I were you, I would opt for the high-res/anti-glare option - it's only $100US now: back when I purchased my MBP in March of 2012, it was a $250 option which I just couldn't afford. Now, looking at the new models side-by-side, I wish that I had ponyed up the $250 for the HR/AG option.
I'm certain that you won't regret it - the people that have the option seem to be tickled pink with it. These days I'm using a (glossy) 17" Apple Thunderbolt Display 90% of the time in a semi-dark room. But I find that my MBP with the glossy screen is simply unusable when outdoors or in bright backlighting.
    Go for it...

  • Have Lost the Hi Res Settings on my MBP

Okay before I call Apple Care and really feel like a fool somehow I have lost the high res screen settings on my LED. The highest setting option listed is now 1440x900 on my Mac. The 1900x1200 is not available however when I have my 23" monitor hooked up there is a 1900x1080 option listed twice in the list for the Dell monitor. The high res setting is not available on my Mac whether I have the external display hooked up or not. I would time machine in a heartbeat but my Mac has a corporate image an TM is crippled. Any suggestions? Thanks.

No, I have a 15" MBP and I do feel like a dope because the native resolution is 1440x900 for this model. Can I assume that this is the highest setting available? I thought at one time the default was 1900x1200??? I just got this machine after 15 years of windows. I will never look at windows again. Coupled with my iPhone there is no turning back.........

  • What is the ideal resolution combo for MBP 13" and Projector?

In our school district we are using 13" MacBook Pro's (OS X 10.7 Lion) and external epson projectors, projecting to a Promethean Smart Board. The default resolution for a MBP is 1280X800, that is a no brainer. Now everything I've been reading says that projectors like to be on 1024X768. When we do that the projector resolution dictates that resolution to the MBP screen and the MBP screen is of course distorted. They don't play nice when trying to set independent settings. We've found that 1280X800 for MBP and 1280X960 for the projector works best. When set at these settings and you plug and unplug the VGA adapter the settings on the MBP hold to 1280X800. But we have to keep calibrating the Promethean Smart Board though inbetween plugging and unplugging the VGA adapter's. Any ideas?

Try setting up the projector at 1024x768 as it calls for, but you want to use the best image. This might require a resolution reset as you are dealing with 3 different viewing sources. (ahh, if only they would come up with a standard.
You can try a pram reset with everything up and running, this can sometimes correct distortions.
    NVPRAM reset:
Power down the mac, power it back up, before the start up chime, press and hold the following keys:
option, command,P,R,(no commas) and continue to hold these keys till you hear the start chime 2 times. See what you have. You might have to reboot.
Also you can try connecting the projector, fire up the mac then the projector, it might auto-detect. You can try system preferences click detect displays,
As for the smart board, you would have to contact the manufacturer for details.
I know I have not offered much here, but it's worth a try, can't hurt anything.
Also, if you plan to contact the Community in the future, please ammend your profile with the model and OS you are using, as it could help you get more info.
Does your IT person have  stuff locked out? Most school districts have many of the useful tools locked out.
The reason I know this is my wife is a school teacher, and we end up doing most of her multi media stuff on one of our personal computers, because of the lock down imposed on the entire staff.
I hope there is something that might help you here. If not get your IT person to make it happen.(If they can)
    Good luck

  • Looking for Screen Protector for A5500-H / A8-50

I'm looking for a good but reasonably priced screen protector for my Mum's new A5500-H. I know there's loads of cheap ones on e-bay but I've tried them for other devices before and found they don't apply very well or have a nasty rough surface that your finger sticks to, making the device unpleasant to use. I've got the model with two speakers, so need cutouts for them at each end. Generally I think the Matte protectors are better as they cut down on reflections, even if they do make the screen a bit less clear/sharp.
I really want a pack of at least two, in case I mess up applying the first one or just as a spare for future. This one's cheap enough to buy two but I've not come across kwmobile before, so they might not be any better than the e-bay ones.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/kwmobile%C2%AE-protector-ANTI-GLARE-resistant-against/dp/B00KPX8DE2/ref=pd_s...
This on the other hand is quite expensive at £11.69 for two but I think I at least recognise the brand, although there's only one review so not enough information to know if they're actually any good
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/atFoliX-Screen-Protection-Lenovo-IdeaTab/dp/B00JKOWAUA/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qi...
I was hoping to find something decent around £4 or £8 for two.
Xtremeguard I think are OK and this seems like a good price for three but coming from the US I'll have no recourse if it turns out to be rubbish as it will cost more to send it back than it's worth
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Pack-Clear-HD-XtremeGuard-HI-DEF-Screen-Protector-Cover-For-Lenovo-A8-50...
The fact that they're selling this single one for more than that pack of 3, makes me concerned that the latter might not be very good
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-XtremeGuard-LCD-Screen-Protector-For-Lenovo-A8-50-A5500-Anti-Scrat...
Perhaps there's a decent but reasonably cheap option for a different 8" device that I could cut down so that it just covers the actual screen area?

Hmm, I notice that the cheaper Xtremeguard 3-pack says they have a "slightly grippy feel" which sounds like the nasty ones I've used before on other devices. The more expensive Xtremeguard single protector has to be applied with water, which I don't fancy either, so I'm still looking for suggestions.

  • Screen-exit for profit center creation - transaction KE51.

    Hi All,
Background: The client has the requirement of importing profit centre master data from legacy system into SAP ECC system. Few of the legacy data could not be filled into existing sap fields, hence the requirement has been to populate the data into custom fields.
The client also has the requirement, that the same fields are required during online entry. For this we need to enhance the profit centre creation screen (transaction code KE51) with two additional custom fields.
Requirement: To enhance profit centre creation screen with custom fields. Screen-exit for KE51 transaction.
Pre-work: Program SAPLRKPM in SAP ECC system is the main program. It does not have any screen or sub screen area for custom fields addition. Debugged the program to check for screen-exits, found none.
Below user-exits are not either screen-exits or cannot be used for enhancing profit center screen.
PCA00001  EC-PCA: Document changes for data transfer
PCA00002  Profit Center Accounting: derivation of representative mat.
PCA00003  Derive Partner Profit Center for External Deliveries
PCA00004  Check valuation for invoice verification with transfer price
PCA00005  Check valuation for invoice verification with transfer price
PCASELEK  EC-PCA: Selection criteria for data transfer
Solution required for: Could anyone please let me know if it is possible to enhance the profit center creation screen. If yes, please provide the names of the screen-exit/  badi exit.
(Just a thought, modifying the standard seems to be the only solution, this should be the last option and i agree, please provide your inputs.)
    Thanks in advance.
    Warm Regards,
    Goutham.

Thank you Manohar for the response.
The requirement is to display custom fields on standard sap screen and there are no screen-exits. So, i suppose the standard screen has to be modified.
Could you please provide brief explanation on
May be you should consider maintaining custom mapping table instead of going for chaning standard.
    With Regards,
    Goutham.

  • Macbook Pro High Res Screen getting White Spot/Mura

I have 2012 MBP with the High res screen. Bought it back in August. I noticed today that I see a little mura/white spot devloping in the screen. Its not noticeable on dark backgrounds, only light colors. But on light colors, its very noticeble. Im still under my year of Apple Care. What is the likeliness they'll replace the screen? Also I added a ssd to my mac via the OWC data doubler, will i need to put the opitcal drive back in before I take it in? WIll they through a fit if they find out?

  • Finding the right resolution for MBP to projector

    Hi there,
I have a lecturer who uses a MBP 15" to project powerpoint slides and him using circuit modelling software.
What I've noticed is the whole setup is quite cumbersome:
    eg:
The projected image is not wide screen like the MBP (i am guessing the projector is at 1024x768)
This means when he runs a simulation for eg. the output pops up in it's own window, and usually off the visible screen on the projector.
needless to say, he spends alot of time awkwardly resizing windows and shifting them around just to illustrate a basic point.
My question is, if I help him resize the resolution so his MBP matches the projector, will the MBP switch back to native when he unplugs it? Will the MBP remember the projector settings next time, and resize automatically when he plugs it in, or will he have to fiddle with resolutions everytime he plugs it in? ( if so, shame on you apple!)
If so, does anyone know of a utility out there that would make this process easier? ie Detect that the projector is connected/disconnected and change the resolution accordingly.
Thanks for your help - it's difficult watching him fiddle as the proj screen is behind him and he has to turn around to see what's acutally visible to the class! It should be easier than that - it's an Apple!
Mac Book Pro Mac OS X (10.4)

    Hi
I have the same issue - when I'm presenting, most of the time I use the customer's projector, so I have no idea what resolution it will be. My MBP 17" widescreen generally offers me different resolutions after the autodetect, but they're either larger than the projector display, or half the slides are missing on the right hand side.
Is there a way to choose other resolutions?
    Regards
    Shaun

  • Will i need a case or screen protector for iphone 5

will i need a case or screen protector for iphone 5? heard the glass is tougher, but still concerned about scratches.

I think you probably should ask if others ever felt they needed them. I can tell you from my experience that applying a screen protector never worked out for me and I always took them off shortly after applying (bubbles / dust enclosed). But then a former colleague had his applied in an Apple Store and that looked perfect. Fortunately I never had a scratch in a screen as I always took good care (and my iPhones always had a pocket in my trowsers to themselves and didn't need to share it with keys or other scratchy objects ...).
The case is a completely different story: I think every phone I had so far managed at least once to slide out of my pockets (don't laugh!) while being on a loo and hit the floor from low hight. Due to the covers I had, the phone looked as new as before, just the cases had a slight scratch if at all. Therefore a case would be highly recommended esp as it can safe you iPhone if you drop it from higher hight.
Reading the first hands-on reviews it appears that the new iPhone 5 is built with materials that are less prone to scratch or crack but my first purchase next Friday will be a case. Not sure if bumper or full case but a case nevertheless.
