Bright areas on one side during black screen?

I'm being picky, but wanna make sure this is just how it is, and not a problem with my copy.
When viewing a black screen - that is, a screen of black content, the side that would be on the right when holding the iPad in portrait mode has a couple of brighter areas, like the old school backlit displays. It's not terribly bright, just noticeable in that case.

Hi All
I seem to have this on my IPAD 1 ... It started today.. after close 2 two years.. and it has been a very good ipad so much so that for two years it has taught my 2 year old son everything.. now.. I think after so many drops.. today i saw that I have on my right side of the screen am seeing these lighting areas as if I am watching a stage with spot lights.. moreover the brightness (auto mode ) is not workign and if i increase my brightness the right side starts heating up... plus i also notice a small gap at the point of the volume button... Now.. my Question is would an LC Change help it.. Wow.. I just noticed that on the other sides there is a little brightness as well.. but only the right side shows a splot light affect?? any idea

  • Thumbnails are visible, photo's show black screen

I use iPhoto now for about 4 weeks. In the beginning everything went perfect. After loading the photo's I could see the thumbnails. Clicking on the thumbnail lifted the photo ready to be modified.
Since today, the new added photo's are still visible as thumbnail but after clicking the screen shows no photo but a black screen.
The pictures show a "!" Is there a solution ?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Where can I get another one of the black screen cleaner cloths?

Hi everyone, I really like the little black cloth that came with my MacBook for cleaning the screen. It is perfect because it works equally well wet and dry, which is a rarity. I was wondering whether there was any way I could get me another one; it would be really handy for keeping one in my computer bag and one at home, saves me having to unpack and repack some stuff too!
I don't know whether you could buy those straight from Apple (a bit like you might do with computer parts for repairs); I wouldn't mind getting them from eBay either, but the search keywords I tried didn't give out many results (I tried a couple of combinations of mac/apple, black, screen, and cloth, but any other suggestions will be welcome :-)). Either way it will have to be some way that ships to Europe.
Thanks everyone! I am looking forward to the answer(s); people here are always very helpful.

    Hey there, thanks for replying!
Actually I do have (quite) a few of the cloths like the ones you link to/describe, but I kind of like the black suede-like on the most for cleaning the MB screen. I guess it seems to me that since it's included, it would be the perfect thing for the job, and as my 'lil MacBook is all shiny and new, I don't want to use anything less than the very best on it, especially on the screen!
I've been thinking about writing straight to Apple and asking if they sell them separately--kind of like parts, or the remotes, which before buying them separately you used to get in the box, and you could get a new one to replace the one in the box if you lost it, something like that. But I have no idea where to write, so any ideas you have on that will be nice too!

    thanks, Kim Wibbels

The people having problems not connecting without AC power was from the last OSX update to 10.5.8, this problem has since been resolved with an Airport Client update.
Your profile shows that you are running 10.5.6... I would suggest updating you software to the latest 10.5.8 as this fixed some Airport issues.
You may want to unplug the router, let it set a minute the plug it back in.
Is your Powerbook still having these issues? How long has the powerbook been experiencing this problem?

  • HP Pavilion a6000 desktop with Vista black screen - need help please!

I have an HP Pavilion a6000 desktop with Vista.  Yesterday it was working fine and today we have the black screen that reads:
    Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copyright (c) 2000, Award Software, Inc.
    BIOS ROM checksum error
    Detecting IDE ATAPI device...
Found CDROM, try to boot from it...Fail

    Detecting IDE ATAPI device...
    Detecting floppy drive A media...
    Drive A error.  System halt
I am not a techie, but looked at online forums and have tried f10 at startup with no change to the screen other than it stops after the first four lines and does not try the floppy drive.  I also pulled out the round battery, waited and then reintstalled.  Same problem.
Also, computer emits a single, repeating beep after startup.
    HELP!

I saw your post and wanted to comment. I'm not an expert on these types of situations but did some digging around and found the following at Tips4PC.com.... read below
"There are two types of computer black screens that can appear in Windows. One where the computer will not boot up but you have a beep sequence sounding to let you know what the problem could be, and the other has nothing at all. No beeps, no cursor, no logo screen, and no choice to boot to safe mode or access the bios.
If your computer will not boot up and you get a beep sequence, I am not saying it is good news, however it is a step in the right direction towards solving this problem. This is a message from your computer that can be understood by looking up your bios (the brand) beep code. For example you may have an Award Bios, Ami Bios, Phoenix BIOS, Compaq, Dell, or Acer Bios. This list goes on and on.  You can search for Bios beep codes in Google. Here is an example of results in Google search"

Also  I went into the Troubleshooting Guide for the A6000  and found the following information.  You need to use F11 for recovery. See below
Starting System Recovery from system startup
    1
Turn off the computer. If necessary, press and hold the On button until the computer
    turns off.
    2
Remove the HP Personal Media Drive if your computer includes one. Disconnect all
peripheral devices from the computer except the monitor, the keyboard, and the
    mouse.
    3
Press the On button to turn on the computer.
    4
During the startup, do the following to enter the Recovery Manager program:
When the blue screen with the HP Invent logo appears, press the F11 key on the
keyboard. (You have only a few seconds to press the F11 key before the normal
    startup process continues.)
    5
The computer starts the Recovery Manager program; wait for the onscreen instructions
to display, and then follow those instructions.
    6
Complete the computer startup, finish the registration process, and wait until you see
the desktop. Then, turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn on
    the computer.

  • Installing Win 7 via Bootcamp on 27' iMac 2010 gives BLACK screen, BLINKING cursor error (BSBCE)?

    Hi All,
All coments appreciated regarding thiis issue.
    I have a 2010 27' i7 2.93Ghz iMac with 8Gb ram, 2Tb Seagate, and 256 Samsung SSD.
I am running 10.6.8 with all updates on the 2Tb Seagate (has BC 3.04), and 10.7.1 on the Samsung (has BC 4.0).
I have tried over a dozen times to install Win 7 (both a 32 bit Professional edition and a 64 bit Ultimate edition) on BC partitions on both drives. These have been all on separate occasions of course.
All installs result in what appears to be a successful install, but when the machine reboots to launch Win 7 for the first time, I ALWAYS get a black screen with a blinking cursor error (BSBCE).
This is not the 2009 video card driver issue problem reported so widely and referred to in the Apple article TS3173. I had that model previously and the way around that was to connect a second monitor/LCD for the installation.
No this is a new and separate issue.
And I am no nubie. I have used IT for over 25 years and teach networking courses in the Win and Mac environments.
The problem appears to be in a corrupt boot loader install.
I have used both WIn 7 install disks to do a repair each time. The repair says it is successful but after rebooting all I get is the black screen and flashing cursor, with no keyboard response. I have used both Bluetooth keyboards and USB keyboards. Nothing seems to make a difference re getting WIn 7 to boot after the install on either drive.
I have also used the Bootrec commands in the command window. They all return a successful outcome but when rebooting I see the ever familar BSBCE.
Now,,,,,here is the real puzzle. I copied my previous Win 7 Ultimate install using Winclone before I sold my older 27' iMac.
If I restore that install to the 2010 iMac Win 7 boots fine!
So some error is happening on my current machine when the bootloader/bootmanager is being written to the BC partition.
The problem is there with the BC on both 10.6 and 10.7, and these are different versions of BC!
Now to further complicate the problem, I manage 12X 2011 21.5' iMacs in a lab at work. Win 7 Professional 32bit installed on these machines just as it should (same disks that produces the black screen flashing cursor).
I have read that some people thing it is a Boot Rom version issue, and there may be some substance to this as WIN 7 installs so easily on the 2011 iMacs in my lab.
I called Applecare about this and went through the procedures outlined above. The guy was very helpful and sympathetic but he had no answer to the problem. His suggestion was to pull the SSD out and do it again with only one drive. As the machine can ship from Apple with both of these drives I really do doubt that pulling the SSD would make a difference.
Mac OS 10.6 and 10.7 work fine, no problems on both drives, so I don't think it is a drive issue.
    OK Mac gurus...over to you.

I have a bookmark for iMac w/ SSD and hard drive.
There is also the 'req'd reading' in http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
with one article on Black screen w/ iMac 2010.

  • Bootcamp Installation ending in a Black Screen

My partner tried to put Bootcamp onto our G5 iMac, however, we are now left with a black screen asing us to press a key on the keyboard but as it is a wireless one the drivers have been wiped so we tried a plug in one that didn't need to be installed and nothing at all is happening!
    HELP!!!

robandsofy, Welcome to the discussion area!
If you installed Boot camp you do NOT have an iMac G5. You have an Intel-based iMac.
I suggest that you post your question in the Boot camp discussion area OR the Intel-based iMac discussion area.

  • Pls Advise Why my iPod Touch's Albums: Tiny black screens, not pictures

    Hello,
I've got a 16GB iPod Touch, 1st generation with 2.1 Software Update. I manage the music manually on a Windows XP desktop. I love this device and have been loving it since i got it as a Valentine's gift early this year.
I'd customized some of the album art images with jpgs found online, saved to hard drive. this was especially useful for those albums (homemade) that didn't have cover art associated with on iTunes/Gracenotes or wherever apple goes to find cover art.
The problem now is that in the Music Folder, when I browse Albums on the Vertical (not Cover Flow) view, some images are 1) misplaced i.e. Snoop Dogg's picture where Chaka Khan's should be or 2) images are replaced with a tiny black screen. (this isn't the negative black screen I've been reading about) There seems to be some error in how the Album View Vertical is working. When I flip through the images in Cover Flow (Horizontal) every thing is fine; even the tiny black screens of the Vertical mode show their true picture in horizontal Cover Flow. i'm wondering about the tiny black screen, since I usually get a musical note image if there is no art, not a black screen.
    So here are my questions:
    1) Why am I getting tiny black screens instead of album art images in the Albums preview screens?
    2) Could this be related to some general sluggish responses to the screen at times?
    3) I have two total pages of applications that work fine (if sluggish--the NYTimes is a big culprit in the sluggishness department-even blanking out the iPod, but even sweet Wurdle can act up), would this be related?
    4) Is there a way to fix this tiny black screens issue without having to wipe the whole iPod clean (sniff! fingers crossed!)
    Thanks!

I had the exact same issue and just spent a good chunk of time fixing things. I made note of each bad album - covers were OK in Cover Flow and when song was playing but vertical scroll and tiny thumbnail in the corner of the tracks window showed only a black thumbnail - then deleted these albums from my iPod. Then I went back and re-added these albums to my iPod but added them ONE AT A TIME by showing the artwork column in my library and dragging them over by the artwork and waiting for each album to finish and finish syncing before dragging the next one over. This seems to have brought back the tiny thumbnails and fixed the problem for now. I have no idea why it did this but I think there's an artwork bug in iTunes that needs to be fixed in the next update as many others have said that dragging over too many albums at once seems to cause issues with artwork showing up in general.
I know it sounds like a pain to drag over one album at a time and wait for it to finish but it seems to be the only way to do things for now. Hope this helps.

  • Lightroom 5.7.1 - LR Slideshows Notorious Black Screen

It seems several members are being affected by the black screen when the LR slideshow option is activated.  From reading what has been posted this is a long standing problem, back to 2013.  My Mac Pro was working just fine with LR 5.7.1 until yesterday when I went to present my client's images and poof zippo… grrr, technical glitches can be quite disturbing when they present themselves in from of your client.
LR is a great tool for presentations and I sure would like to know if anyone has found the root cause for this problem.

Thanks John but yes I have read the thread.  One other note, my slideshow screen went black after I migrated my existing LR catalog folders to a new hard drive.  The catalog folders were transferred within LR so as to maintain the original LR catalog links.  The LR catalog remains on one drive and the files in folders on another, which is common in my file structure but this transfer was done with existing folders that were already linked to the LR catalog.  So using a method I have used for years I importing a new set of images, placed them in a folder and tried a slideshow… unfortunately the same black screen.  So this rules out using transferred folders on a new drive causing the problem.  One thought might be is just the act of transferring folders to a new drive triggered something within the LR software.  I wonder if others who are experienceing this problem had recently transferred folders to a new drive when this anomaly happened.

  • Black screen after windows auto update

New laptop in use for 3 weeks.  After Windows auto update restart I get to splash screen and am able to enter Windows password to log onto desktop.  After successfully entering password I am not able to view my desktop; I get the black screen with cursor function; cursor disappears when moved within an inch of left or right of screen (seems to go behind something).  I believe I am at the desktop but just not able to view it, because I receive app popups on the black screen (need to update McAfee, etc).
In safe mode I restored to pre auto update date; manually installed all Windows updates;  worked fine until NEXT auto update, same problem.
Graphics Card:  Stock Intel HD Graphics
    Monitor:  Generic PnP
Why would it be fine with the manual update and not after auto update?
I do not have an external monitor to attach this laptop for diagnosis.  I have run windows partition checks and hard drive partition checks with no issues to resolve.
I did get an error message once when running a diagnosis (can't remember which) : Windows Update Error 0x80070490
No real luck finding anyway for me (the average Joe) to resolve this issue.
If this is a harddrive issue I don't want to keep pussyfooting around while my warranty window shrinks.
I have downloaded driver updates from HP, but cannot get the Synaptics Touchpad driver to download.  I don't think this is my issue though.
I am going to manually update all my drivers then manually update Windows.  We will see what happens on the next auto update.
Please advise if this is an issue I need to just give up on and return this laptop for replacement.  It seems like this is not a completely unheard of issue, but I'm shocked at what we are asked to do to attempt to resolve it.  Out of my depth.

    Hi @Justanothermom
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having troubles with a black screen after an update. I am happy to help you with this.
Firstly, there is nothing wrong with modifiying your update settings. I was going to suggest it myself as I read through your post, and then saw you ask the question. Sometimes updates can have unintended results by the creator. With all the different combinations of  hardware, and the fact that updates come from different sources, it is one of those things that is hard to completely control.
Please see the following for how to make adjustments to your update settings.
Turn automatic updating on or off - windows.microsoft.com
Or if you know which update seems to be causing the issue you can take a look at this page:

  • Windows 8 black screen after Dell logo?

My computer was being really slow the past couple of days so i did a system scan with reg cure pro and it told me i had to restart my laptop. After restarting my laptop it showed
the dell logo and then just a black screen. Every time i restart my laptop it does the same logo then black screen. When i click the power button it turns of instantly instead of the usual 3 or so seconds of holding the button. I have looked up this issue
but have not found a fix.I cannot/do not know how to restore windows 8 because ,y laptop came without the installation disk and when i try to access the advanced settings it is still just another black screen with the words "f12 boot
options" in the bottom right corner. I have also seen people talking about 2 different styles of this black screen. One with a black screen but a light border and the second just a black screen. The one mine seems to be is that there is a bright border
along the edges of my laptop screen but black everywhere else. If you have found a fix to this problem or have a temporary solution please post a comment. Thank you.

Issue already solved from Dell inspiron n5110 Series, Follow the step to get your screen at better resolution....
    1. Install Windows 8 Pro
    2. Use External Monitor to View the Screen of Windows 8 After Installation or Run in Safe Mode To Access Windows 8 at Low Screen Resolution
    3. Download the Bios Driver (New one) for your Laptop from Dell.com website,
    4. Install the Bios ( Remember to connect the AC and DC )
    5. Once Bios Installed and system Restarted you can disconnect the External Monitor if you did attached
    6. That is Done, Now you have a Windows 8 in your Dell inspiron
