Bright Pixel on Light Colored Backgrounds

Hi fellow Mac Friends,
I have a quick question for you all that has been bugging me for over a month. I recently bought a Mac Book Pro and it came with a beautiful LCD screen with no issues. A few weeks after I bought it, it developed the awful whine that everyone was talking about. I took it to the Apple Store and they fixed it within a couple of days.
Great!
However when I got it back, a week later I noticed that now something was wrong with one of my pixels. The pixel is not stuck (Red/Green/Blue) nor is it dead (black or off) as far as I know. The pixel is bright but not all of the time. It is only abnormally bright on light colored surfaces and its brightest against white. Now as you know, most web pages have nice white backgrounds so this is painfully annoying. Emotionaly its hard to swallow after I just dropped so much money but the the impefection is painfully clear.
Despite my feelings on the subject, I was hoping someone else might provide some information on this. Is this a "dead" pixel? Or a "stuck" pixel? Or is this something fixable. I have tried all of the stuck pixel programs out there but I don't believe this is a dead or stuck pixel.
I have heard the term "hot" pixel but then I would assume that this pixel would burn white in all situations including dark backgrounds.
If there is any information out there that someone might know on this subject, I would greatly appreciate it!
Yours Truly,
Rilely

Right, that particular pixel would not be able to render all the colors. With dark backgrounds, the pixels are shuttered and not passing light. So even the sub-pixel where the color filter material has chipped off will not be illuminated and showing brightly. It will only be for certain colors and white where the brighter-than-bright pixel will show. You should be able to use a test program and determine which sub-pixel, R, G or B, has the missing color. Just put up successively an all red, all green and all blue screen. One of those screens should have a white pixel. If, for instance, the red screen has the white pixel, then it is the red sub-pixel that is missing it's color filter layer for that particular pixel. Here is a link to my favorite freeware program that can provide the required test patterns:

  • Brightness & light colored font-bad sound on HP Pavilion All-in-One, 20-b013w

I help correct learners of English, and when I record the sound on playback is horrible.  I purchased a new mic, but the problem still exist.  Seems like a lot of noise in the background.  A big problem I have with the monitor is the brightness and light color of font.  It is so light that it is very hard to read.  For instance on this page, the blue lettering is hard to read with the screen being so white.  I have a HP Pavilion 20 All-in-One, 20-b013w, and have the Windows 8 on the computer.
How can I improve the sound when I record using a microphone, and is it possible to darken the font and maybe change the contrast?  I am not a computer expert by any means, so if someone can help me I would be very thankful.

Hello leatherneckco.  I understand you're having some trouble with your microphone and your screen's brightness.
What program are you using to record your audio?  Have you tried recording in another application?
A good first step is to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.  Try the following.
From either the Metro or Desktop view press the Windows+X key combination.  This opens the Context Menu.
    Select Device Manager.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your sound card and select Uninstall.
After the uninstallation has completed you should reboot your notebook.
Once Windows loads it will reinstall the device.
Verify whether the issue persists and post the result.
You can adjust your brightness by following these directions or using the monitor's physical buttons.  This document can show you how to change the settings related to your computer's fonts.
I'll keep an eye out for your reply.  Have a good day.
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • White bright spot on screen when displaying white or light colors

When my droid X screen is displaying all white or light colors their is a bright white sport about a inch up from the bottom of the screen in the middle. It does not appear when the colors are dark. Does anyone else this problem?

There are a couple of different issues that can cause this.  One being "Stuck" pixels, another being pressure from the battery compartment.
Check to see if your battery door feels like it's binding or applying pressure when you slide it on and off.  If it is your battery is either not stock, or it has warped due to overheating.
As for pixels stuck, run this youtube video on your screen for a few minutes:

  • How to create transparent text on a solid color background?

I want to create a transparent text on a solid color backround, and I need text transparency to go all the way to through the image (i.e. do not show the solid color background). I have the transparent background layer, the solid rectangle layer that occupies part of the image, and the text layer (with text element) on the top of the solid rectangle layer. How do I make text transparency to go all the way through? Here is a similar example for Photoshop CS, only in my case, the backround layer is transparent (i.e. there is no picture): http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/transparent-text-area/. Basically, I need to make the letters see through, so they show the backround color on which the image will be placed. Is it possible to do in Photoshop Elements? I'm using version 9 on Windows 7. Thanks.

Thank you all for the suggestions, especially 99jon. 99jon's walktrhough is helpful, but I was hoping to find a workaround that would allow keeping transparent text that goes all the way through all other layers to transparent background as a text level, but once I flatten the image, I'd lose the text layer, so I cannot make any changes to it (like slightly change the font, size, style, face, etc). Let me clarify a bit what I'm trying to do to see if there is an even better option.
Say, I need to have a 300x300 pixel image that (forget about photos) consists of a solid-color circle (circle can be white, black, red, blue, or any solid color, or gradient, does not matter) on a transparent background, and inside of this circle I'd like to cut out a word (say, the word "TEST" with no bevels or other decoration, just flat font) all the way to the transparent background. I just need a circle with text cut out and showing around the circle and through the word "TEST". So if a circle is white and I place the image on a blue background, the word "TEST" would be in blue (so would be the area around the circle).
Is there a way to set it up to allow changing the color of the circle (say, from white to black, or blue, or red) and keep smooth edges of the text (and circle) blending with the background (i.e. avoid jagged edges) without redoing every color variation from scratch? Like, getting some master file which would define size and position of the elements,a s well as font, etc, and from this master file, use simple adjustments to change the color.
Ideally (in my dream world), there would be an option for the text element to be of transparent color that would go through all layers below it. But there must be a not too complex way to do this, right?

  • My 30" Display can't display nice gradiants/lighter colors, am I alone?

    I am running OSX 10.3.9.
    Have a 30" ACD
Graphics card is a GeForce 6800 Ultra
I have tried recalibrating a dozen times, yet cannot see finer gradiants, or very light colors that appear on other machines, including Macs with 23" displays, and PC's... any suggestions?

Hi -- the standard Mac Pro should have 2 DVI outputs. One of them is dual-link and supports large displays with more pixels. The other one is single-link DVI and won't support a large display at native resolution. So try plugging your monitor into the other DVI port.

  • T510: display issues(Bright pixels that wouldn't go away) -support?

Shortly after purchasing a new T510, I started to have problems with the display (Bright pixels that wouldn’t go away).  I figured it was a BIOS or driver issue.  However as my company purchased about 80 of these machines and I turned out to be the only one with the issue, I called support.
I also purchased the onsite 24hour support for three years, so I called Lenovo and in a couple days (not 24hours) they came in a replaced the LCD panel, which they assured me was the issue.  Not even an hour or two after the repair tech (David) left the problem started happening again.
I called back and Lenovo now indicated it has to be the motherboard.  Ok, so a couple days later David came in and replace the motherboard.  Now I purchased these units fully loaded, discrete graphics extra memory, high res, etc.  The motherboard they replaced it with did not have the Nvidia card, instead just the onboard graphics, which A. is no what I purchased, and B. not equivalent or better.
So David ripped out the new inferior board and put the old broken one back in, so I could at least continue with my job, with the intermittent pixel issue. I should also mention the screen went blurry at the same time the pixel issue happened, so I would have to reboot to restore the monitor.  David then ordered another Motherboard.
A week went by and no one called me back, so I called Lenovo again to find out what the heck was going on and why I didn’t have a new one ready in waiting within 24 hours. I was informed that is not how the warrantee works, only that they will respond in 24 hours and that the verbiage on their site around the warrantee was not perfectly clear.  Wow. OK…  I then asked when they expect to have this fixed and it turns out the part I need is on back order.
The part finally arrives. In another 4-5 days, however, I have a business trip coming up and I can’t risk yet another defective part. With my current flaky monitor I can at least get by.  So I schedule a time with David the repair tech to swap it out when I return.
I get the new Motherboard installed and I get all these video errors and other things start going horribly wrong.  David indicates it is a driver/bios issue and I need to upgrade/install drivers to remedy it.  Okay, so I do that, spend hours trying to get it to work. Turns out this motherboard is even worse and it crashes every time I try and use an external monitor or if the Nvidia 3100 kicks in for hardware acceleration.
I continue to work under the belief that this is a driver issue and try to fix it, however one of the MANY crashes ends up corrupting my Window 7 install, now throwing blue screens all the time and destroying my development env in the process. So I rebuild the machine and it just keeps happening.  This is now days of lost work that I can’t bill for.
I call Lenovo again to try and get this lemon replaced.  I get a hold of Jerome who punts me to Lenton, who punts me to Nate Bennet.  Nate seems like a reasonable guy and informs me that at their level of service they can only repair the units and are happy to continue working through this. By now this is gone on long enough and I want to have the laptop replaced, 1 out of 80, this one is a lemon. Nate appears to agree and kick off an escalation process to have this case reviewed and informs me that someone will call me back in 24-48 hours (business days that is).  Okay this is still incredibly inconvenient, but at least I believed we are making forward progress.
36 Hours goes by and no one calls me back, so I call Lenovo yet again.  I get a hold of Julius.   Julius informs me he’ll have a supervisor call me back right away, as there was not one available.
48 hours later I call Lenovo again, as you can guess no one has called me back.  I get a hold of Michael.  I again explain the whole situation to Michael and ask to speak to a supervisor, again...  Which again I’m informed is not possible as there is not one available.  Michael indicates that he’ll have a supervisor call me back.  This time I say I can wait on the line because that is what everyone else told me and nothing happened.  Michael then informs me that he is Michael and would not let that happen and assured me that a supervisor would call me back right away. I relent; verify my contact info with Michael and it all seems to be accurate.
So again nearing the end of the day no one has called me back, I call Lenovo yet again.  This time I get a hold of Phil.  I once again explain the whole situation.  Phil is very apologetic, but still is unable to produce a supervisor.  Phil indicates he’ll put sticky notes on his supervisor’s machine to contact me back. I guess these guys are probably using a T510 as well and can’t read their email either.
I ask for the name of this supervisor because clearly Lenovo is filling me with horse s&^% at this point.  There is a clear pause and all he says it "Carter.., that is his last name I don’t know his first name." Okay really, so you know this guy well enough to put sticky notes on his monitor, but you only know his last name.  Now I know I’m being lied to, but what can I do.
So here I am with a busted laptop that crashes at least 3-4 times a day I can’t use the discrete graphics that I paid for and only supports the LCD panel built into it.  In previous experience, with a different manufacturer, after the first few failed attempts they would have replaced the unit.  I guess I should be angry with the guy that convinced us to give Lenovo machines a try for the next refresh (That was me by the way).
I really have no idea how to proceed with this one.  This is first time in my career that I have ever been treated like this.  I really have no idea what to say.

I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt on this one, there is a message at the top of the forum stating:
"Welcome to Lenovo's Discussion Community!  Please note our guidelines when posting."
    if you read the Forum Guidelines it states quite clearly;
    Title threads appropriately
. The title of a thread should accurately reflect the subject of the discussion and be as technically specific as possible.  Avoid inflammatory or emotional statements that do not aid the development of the conversation. Thread titles are indexed not only for search functions within the forum, but often externally in Google, Yahoo, etc. Proper thread titles will aid the active members of the Lenovo community, as well as non-members who may be searching more broadly. Example of a good thread title: T Thinkpad Blue Screens after suspend . Example of a bad thread title: Stupid computer locks up - worthless piece of junk. Moderators may alter thread titles to be more meaningful if less than appropriate titles are chosen.
I'm certain the edited title represents the actual real hardware problem at hand better than the original because it's more descriptive and accurate and will therefore attract the attention of the members who have experienced the same or similar situations to comment and offer advice based on their experience.
Please do take time to read our guidelines as I'm sure you'll find some other helpful and informative tips in them.

  • How to add a custom color background

In iMovie 11 can you make a custom color background for text other than the stock backgrounds?
    If so how?

use any 'Paint'-app (Pixelmator, Photoshop/elements, abuse Keynote/iWork ... ), or download any .jpg you'd like to see as 'background' from the web.
